We haven't had food here so can only comment on the overall vibe of the bar and the drinks. We went here last night for drinks and they had multiple floors with different bars, with some tucked away as well. They had plenty of bartenders and they made drinks quickly during such a busy night. They played all classic pop songs that we all knew, which was fun. A little over a year ago I had my son's wedding rehearsal dinner there. Made reservations for about 40. A few didn't show and the owner only charged me for who did. The food and drink rate was VERY reasonable and the options were plentiful and delicious. I even tried to give the owner a $150 tip and he wouldn't take it. If I could do 0 stars I would, me and my 2 friends came here to have a fun and relaxing time. We get in the bar and one of the employees came up to us and told my friend he was unable to wear his durag. He said that baseball hats are allowed, but not durags? Mind you, we were sitting at the booth for 10 minutes max and it was clear the employees outside were talking about it and it was orchestrate. He said it was on the sign outside, which it was not; they let us in and didn't say a thing. My family enjoyed the restaurant! We stopped by visiting my cousin in college at West Chester told us about it and took us there. He said the line is normally wrapped around at night time. We went at around 1pm on a Saturday and there was no wait, we seating upon walking in. The downside, there was no changing tables in the restroom to change my toddler. First time at Barnaby's after hearing about it for years. Lively bar atmosphere with a old time cozy feel. Went on a Sunday night when Phillies were playing. Ordered the French onion soup- well done cheese, served piping hot- picture perfect! Bang Thai shrimp app had nice spice, but a little too much sauce. the manager of this joint is a shister. the local "deal" of %20 off while staying at the Hotel Warner is Fake. every time I have come here the waitress is sent to "speak to the manager" about the discount, and every time is met with a reason why the discount will not apply. the food was mediocre, and the staff was fine. The problem is the manager and creating a trap of a fake discount of 20%. They should include a notice about why you cannot actually get this discount. Do not go here. I typically go to Barnaby's on Tuesday nights when they have Mexican food and $3 coronas. Although they stopped serving Corona bottles and you have to take it from the can now, I will tell you that they're Cali-burrito is really, really good, but the tortilla chips are always stale . Now if you plan on going to Barnaby's for a big event like UFC which they USUALLY televise (call first), you'll want to be in the 21 to 25 year old range, which I'm not. The main seating room was packed to the brim along with the rest of the restaurant but that did"nt affect our waitress Megan's attention to us despite being the only non drinkers in the building We have been taken care of by Megan about 20 times in the last few years and have started to ask for her directly. Our daughter has a few typical severe allergies and Megan always remembers this and will not only suggest dishes and entrees that are safe, but can rattle off menu ingredients that always make us feel comfortable that our daughter"s allergies are being taken care of. Obviously was very uncomfortable, but to top it off the worker comes up and yells at us because we caught him filming. Always been a fan of Barnaby's food service. I went to their bar for the first time and the bartender made two drinks for my friends group. I paid but I didn't tip because that was my first round and since it was my first time I thought I would tip my bartender later for my last drink. When I went for the second round the bartender literally said "I'm not going to serve you because you didn't tip me" in a very rude manner and told the other bartenders to not serve me as well. My friend has a medical issue where she has random flare ups and must reach a restroom. She did try to use the roped off bathroom in the front but it was an emergency (the other bathroom lines were wrapped around the corner) The short bouncer then PUT HIS HANDS ON HER after he said she can't use that one. She said I am sorry and I have an emergency (her condition does not allow her to drink much either so she was not drunk) and he did not care. He put his hands on her and dragged her out of the bar. It caused a scene and embarrassed my friend for something she cannot control. Never acceptable when someone is being compliant. She was very understanding that she did break a rule and tried to explain but they used force instead of their words. Another bald bouncer assisted in the physical act of dragging her. Were they not trained? I am so disappointed with the character and actions of the young men that are employed here. The idea of Barnabys is great, outdoor area during the summer etc. However, the bouncers are the rudest most aggressive I have ever experienced in my life. Multiple times I and friends have been harassed and treated like actual garbage even when just trying to grab a bite to eat. Went to eat here around 6:30 on a Tuesday and only brought cash, as I was not drinking. The bouncer followed me to the bathroom and bombarded me asking for me ID when i said i'm not drinking and don't have my license on me he proceeded to throw me out of a restaurant without me being able to finish my food. My boyfriend and I went the other day with "Free Drink" slips and the waitress was very patient and sweet with all of our questions. Bouncer decided my dancing in the upstairs dance floor indicated I was "too messed up" after being three beers in at 1am, so he kicked me out. Not that I was disappointed because A it was 1am and time to go home, but beyond that, this establishment crams the entire West Chester campus into their small space and offers sub par service for overpriced, watered down drinks (I did not purchase any after sampling a friends). Let's not wrongly characterize this place as a college dive. This place is a GREAT place to bring the family for lunch or dinner, and give them a nice affordable, nice meal in a casual setting. One night, I think they even have a magician walking around, entertaining kids. And the guy is pretty entertaining for adults too. Secondly, if you are snooty and don't like the kind of place that Barbaby's is...which is a college sports bar with a lively atmosphere, then don't go. What you SHOULDN'T do is rate the place one or two stars just because you don't like the style of the place. I don't go to the opera, and rate it one star because I don't like overweight Italian people singing...I just don't go. Don't be shocked to find college kids in a college town at a bar. That being said, I fell in love with this place because of the prices and extremely friendly staff...the kind of people who learn your name and are happy to see you when you walk in the door. It was a great place for beers after class, buffalo chicken eggrolls which I still crave late at night, and a burger during the summer on the patio. My wife is obsessed with wings, and these are also her favorite out of anywhere. For outdoor seating, the patio is has a great atmosphere, a beautiful outdoor bar. The ambience is second only to Mas' roof bar IMO. There are also plenty of TVs at watch the game, and the specials are exceptional...if you try, it's hard to not have a nice bite to eat and some beers, and spend more than 25 bucks. That being said....on a Friday night, I wouldn't go here after 11:00..... It's not my crowd. This is a product of the college, not the venue, so I will not let this affect my review. I'm really surprised that Barnaby's has such a low Yelp rating. However, this review is totally based on nightlife and not on their food. After needing a change of scene from the boring places I usually frequent in the city, my friend and I looked up West Chester night life and settled on Barnaby's to start off our night there. It's not the classiest place (though I'd hardly classify it as a dive bar), but there's a place in this bar for any scene. Dancing upstairs (although I have yet to do so), a lounge type area, even a courtyard area out back with tvs to watch the games (if you're into that sort of thing). As for pricey drinks, my cranberry vodka only ran $4.50 (my friend's beer was more expensive $6 although they did have drink specials) We went for drinks and I had such a great time, I went with another friend the following night. I was always a fan of the Barnaby's in Ridley, and just recently moved to West Chester. My friends and I were really excited to have a night out here, but as we were going in, they stopped my friend and would not let her in wearing a bandana (in her hair, clearly for fashion). My friend argued with the bouncer for a little bit about this. At the end of the day, if they choose not to let her in because of this, it is their business and their right to deny her entry, regardless if we agree with. What is causing me WAY further outrage and to now avoid this place is the fact that not FIVE MINUTES LATER, we stood there as they watched two other girls in wearing their bandannas in the same exact way as my friend. And, you guessed it, these two girls were white and my friend is black. Although we were mad to begin with, this took away ANY argument they could have possibly made to us in their own defense. They have unique eggroll and burgers on their menu. The interior is awesome. Leather booths, large windows, fire place and Scottish plaid rugs. You feel like you're either in a British influenced restaurant or a ski lodge...whichever you let your imagination take you to. The food is really good. I had chicken wings and cheese fries. The wings were fried at perfect oil temperature. The wings were a nice size too. Corona's were $2.50/bottle. I will definitely be going back to further explore their menu. The staff is fairly young, but they were very polite and on top of service. I read other reviews stating how Barnaby's is a dive bar....to me, a dive bar is dirty with graffiti and clutter all over the walls, small & smokey. Barnaby's is clean and beautiful inside. I went during the day, and there were only a few people inside. It was quiet. Used to be one of my favorite bars- went there recently with a friend from Texas visiting (22 years old) they looked at her Id for a while then told us they'd be confiscating it. When we proceeded to tell them she is 22 years old and that it's her real Id they asked us to leave. My friend from Texas said i have pictures of my passport and social security i can show you as additional proof then they told us they can't accept pictures. We politely tell them it's OK if they want to deny us but we at least need her legitimate ID back and then that is when they told us we would have to call the cops for that to happen. We explained we would have no problem whatsoever calling the police as this is a legitimate ID from a 22-year-old. We called the police, they explained to us that barbaby's itself would need to call them to have the cops come and verify the id. We asked every bouncer there if they would call the cops to verify her Id and all of them said no "we can deny anyone we want w/o an excuse" after endless calls and arguments they gave back the id- still not accepting the two of us at 22 years old. 0/10 would not recommend extremely rude service and unprofessional treatment for two of age people. read more
