A big part of what makes LaScala such a great place is the leadership of General Managers Matt and Steve. Upon arrival, a few minutes early for the reservation, we were sat right away in a cozy side room, a bit more intimate than the main floor where the TVs were, and most of the guests. Perfect for the evening. It took a few minutes for the server to get to us, which wasn't terribly surprising with it being a busy holiday. By the time he got to us, we were ready to order, so we got those placed quickly. We started with the Italian egg rolls. They were very yummy, but the Calabrian chili sauce stole the show here. We would have loved a side cup of it for dipping. Still a solid appetizer. For entrees, I had the gnocchi, one of my favorite pasta dishes. It did not disappoint! The sauce was a great consistency, and the gnocchi were cooked to perfection. I wasn't used to the portion size though. I ended up taking home enough for probably another two meals. Great value here. The angel hair with crab was also a sizable meal. And for dessert, tiramisu finished off the evening. Yet another large portion and great for someone with a sweet tooth like me. I was in town visiting and a small group of us came here for my buddy's birthday. I had never been to a Lascala's, but apparently there are a handful of them around the area. Starting off, someone ordered an espresso martini and we all know how that goes... the rest of us had to as well. Our server was great and made sure everyone had what they needed throughout the dinner including the kids at the table. I was torn on which entree to order since many of them were calling my name. I landed on the Spicy Chicken Cutlet Rigatoni and it was positively the right decision. It has a little bit of heat, great crunch on the chicken, and cheesiness in every bite from the burrata. Plus the portions were huge. I would have gladly devoured the second half of my dish the next day, but I was flying home so the birthday boy got an extra gift of leftovers. read more

It's a nice looking restaurant that was pretty busy. One would assume if a place is busy then it must be good. Well you know what they say about assuming. My husband ordered Angel hair with crab and I got Chicken Marsala. The sauce with his dish was watery thin and not as flavorful as he would have liked. My chicken marsala had the same issue. It really lacked flavor. The portion sizes were large, but I had to salt it 5 times and it still was missing flavor. Our waitress was great, so points for that. The restaurant is super loud, making it pretty difficult to have a conversation, but if you're married then that won't matter. I did see some pizzas at tables around us that looked really good, so if we do decide to go back, we might give that a try. read more

My friend wanted both sushi and pasta at her birthday dinner, which we thought would be impossible to find in a single restaurant. And then we discovered Lascala's Fire. Apparently, the sushi menu is new to this location. We had concerns that the quality of the sushi wouldn't be great, but those concerns were unfounded. Our server explained that the sushi menu is prepared in the kitchen by an actual sushi chef and not just pulled out of the fridge by the pasta chefs. My friends ordered the Spicy Tuna Tartare and the Spicy Tuna Rolls and enjoyed them very much. The plating was also lovely, but I wasn't able to grab a photo since they were eaten so quickly! I ordered the Ricotta Tortellini and another fried ordered the Spicy Chicken Cutlet Rigatoni. They were both delicious and the servings were generous. The pasta was fresh and properly cooked and the sauces were very flavorful. We shared a plate of Profiteroles for dessert, and they were devoured almost as soon as they landed on the table. Our server was very friendly and attentive and seemed very knowledgeable about the menu. The food is brought out as it's ready, which is great for temperature and freshness, but makes the pacing of the meal a bit disjointed. The sushi came to our table first, so those of us who ordered pasta basically sat and watched the sushi eaters eat while we waited for our food. Then the sushi eaters were done when we got our pasta, so they were just sitting there watching us eat. Not a huge deal, and we were all sharing bites of our dishes throughout the meal, but something to be aware of if you're planning a visit. The only thing I didn't love was the overall ambiance of the restaurant. It's a very large and open space, so it gets pretty loud when it's busy (we were there on a Friday night when the restaurant was full). And the space is packed full of tables without a ton of room in between them, so you kind of feel like you're sitting on top of the people directly behind you. And even though I kept scooching my chair in as far as possible, the servers passing through still bumped into me a handful of times. Not a great spot for a quiet, private dinner out, but good for grabbing delicious food with a group of friends. And where else are you going to find sushi and pasta in one restaurant? read more

We happened into Lascala's Fire on the way home from the airport after a long travel day. It was the perfect choice! The restaurant wasn't terribly crowded, so it was easy to have a conversation! The menu is well done and offers a number of Italian dishes - some that are traditional and some that are done with a twist. We had the calamari, which was well prepared and presented. We split a Caesar salad, and we found it to be perfect - the dressing was appropriately flavorful and the lettuce was not drowned! We each had a different pasta dish, both of which were very well done... the cocktail and wine list were reasonably thorough, although I found the prices on their higher end wines to be absurdly inflated. As a result, I'd be hard pressed to order a bottle. Otherwise, this is a great choice for a night out! read more

Came here with a group of friends on a Monday night. I was able to make a reservation online so that was really nice. We were seated at our table immediately and were given a drink menu as well as a food menu. I ordered a glass of wine since I wasn't feeling any of the cocktails. My daughter and I shared the mussels as our appetizer. It was really good. There were plenty to share. It came with bread as well to dip in the sauce. The sauce was really good. For dinner we shared the chicken cutlet over ziti. Sorry I forgot the exact name. It was huge. It came out already divided in our own bowls which was really nice. The burrata on top was so good. I loved the sauce the pasta was in. Even though I only had half, I still took half home and had it for lunch the next day. The service was great. Our server was really nice. Worst chicken Marsala I've ever had. It came out two minutes after I ordered it and you could tell they threw a premade unseasoned piece of chicken in a pan with a terrible premade sauce and heated it up. Absolutely terrible. Hands down the worst cheesesteak eggs rolls I had ever had. They were massive and all mush a bunch of weird (not cheesesteak) meat. Watery cheese sauce, no flavor. We have visited Lascala Fire in Newtown Square and Villanova, more than 7 times in the last 18 months. Lascale Fire maintains their restaurants very professionally. Food quality and quantity are good. Customer service is awesome. Our last visit was on Jan 18, 2026 6:30 PM. It was a cold and snow day. The number of guests at the restaurant were in small numbers, restaurant was not busy. Our server Ibrahim was friendly and helpful. At Lascala Fire, food comes very fast. So, you may need to advise your server, what and when to bring the food. As per my experience, server shows up multiple times for follow up. On two occasions, we had an experience, where we had to look for our server. Newtown square location is huge, I think they have a capacity of 400 people, unless I am mistaken. So, they get busy, Improvement: We make reservations via opentable. We requested birthday surprise (a small cake and candle) and they missed it, twice! I do not know, the purpose of instructions box in opentable APP when restaurant is not reviewing the instructions. We are not looking for free cake but a surprise. With humans, it is psychological when it comes to surprises especially on their birthdays. So, restaurant must do better in reading instructions. read more

This is the noisiest restaurant that I ever walked into. No way to enjoy a dinner with another couple and hear one another talking. I also made an open table reservation 2 weeks in advance and specifically asked for a table with chairs - no booth. We were seated at a booth in the back of the restaurant right next to a noisy open kitchen. I asked for the table that I requested and was told it would be a 20 minute wait. We left in disgust. We went to Soprano's Deli down the street and had a wonderful home style cooked meal for a fraction of the price, but we wanted to try something new. Lesson learned! read more

Dropped in for a late lunch and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is upscale in a comfortable way and there's indoor and outdoor seating with a full bar in both spots. Menu has something for everyone --we had a late lunch and I decided to try the Lemon shrimp and crab pasta dish with their gluten free gnocchi. It--was--really--good. The gnocchi were small but plentiful coming with an ample amount of crab and shrimp all sitting in a very fresh tasting lemon sauce. The chicken Marsala was a decent portion of tender meat atop perfect Al dente linguini and just the right amount of Marsala sauce. All of the staff seemed friendly and courteous and our waiter was no exception--checking on us at appropriate times without being disruptive. Next time I'll try one of the several salads and share La Scala's fries! read more

Overpriced appetizers and unclear identity as an establishment. Walking in, the atmosphere feels like an attempt to be both upscale but also a sports bar? Unfortunately I don't think it pulls off either very well, and the attempt at both detracts from the other. My wife and I ordered the cheesesteak egg rolls. For the price, I expected more than four half egg rolls served with ketchup. "Chopped sirloin" is the menu's way of saying "ground beef." It did come out pretty fast, but I'm guessing it's because it was prepared before we even ordered it, as our server did mention it's an "open kitchen" service, if I recall correctly. The pizza that my wife ordered was beautiful and tasty, as was the spicy chicken cutlet rigatoni that I ordered. The entrees salvaged the meal and the portions were well sized so there were plenty of leftovers for us. The only other rough spot was the service. Our server, while polite, didn't mention her name until I asked later, and she took a very long time to return to our table. We sat ready to pay for at least 15 minutes with no sign of her to even call her name. Overall, I think other restaurants offer better food and experiences for better prices. This wasn't bad, but it wasn't worth returning for. I guess if you go for a pizza and that's it, maybe it's a fine option. read more

I don't get this " We'll bring out each dish as it's done" system that LaScala employs. . It's not hard to run a kitchen where everything for one table is finished at the same time. Good thing we were a party of two and not 6, or everyone would be starting to eat at drastically different times (and having to navigate that awkward "No, you start. Yours is getting cold" dance). As it was, my wife's dish came out 10 minutes after mine. Setting was nice. Food was just OK. Service was abysmal, as our waitress was totally uninterested. Oh, and what aren't happy hour offers only good to those at the bar and high tops surrounding it? We were seated literally 3 feet outside the prestigious abd apparently exclusive Happy Hour "zone" but couldn't take advantage of it. read more

We were so excited to celebrate a milestone this evening and left our celebratory meal very disappointed. I ordered the lemon shrimp & crab linguini. Unfortunately when it arrived it was more like linguini soup. It was swimming in a very salty, tasteless liquid. It was virtually inedible. The gravy a white gravy was the creamiest gravy I have ever tasted. The service was good. The only thing was that they do not serve bread with the meals. Last weekend, I had a birthday party for my 80 yr old parents at LaScala's fire Newtown Sq. The entire event, from planning through execution was FABULOUS. The manager, Matt, was extremely accommodating with my menu selections. Our server, Ebraheem (spelling?) was amazing, gracious and attentive. Each of my guests as they arrived told me what an excellent atmosphere LaScala's was and how excited they were to try the food ---- WHICH WAS DELICIOUS! Closer to 3 stars than 2 stars. Tried the lemon mint martini - really good. Had an aperol spritz - it was only okay. Tried the brussel sprouts appetizer - large portion but 2 out of 3 of us didn't care a lot for it - it was okay. The salmon main was good. The mista salad was okay. The veal parm was a large portion but nothing special. The service was not great. We watched one of our dishes travel around the restaurant until it landed with us. We were offered 3 dishes as 'ours' and 'are you sure it is not yours'. Our waitress was asked for several items proactively (a lemon or lime, ice, take out boxes) that we had to ask for a second time; she checked on the table once. Would I return? We had a good server, so there was that. But the positives ended there. We (party of 2) ordered a mista salad to share, truffle fries, the spicy chicken cutlet rigatoni, and the pasta bolognese. They have what they call a "free flowing kitchen" but basically everything was just brought to the table at once. That's not what a free flowing kitchen is. There wasn't even room on the table for it all. Further, the only dish that either of us enjoyed was the salad (pretty basic, but no complaints). The truffle fries were just regular fries for $17. Only a few of them had any truffle flavor. The spicy chicken cutlet rigatoni isn't actually spicy at all. Not even a little bit. In fact, it had no flavor. I didn't taste the pasta bolognese but my husband said it was pretty tasteless and the pasta was over cooked. We're pretty disappointed. read more
