    South Philly String Band
    Brian C.

Went here for lunch after bowling at wynnewood lanes and was pleasantly surprised when the South Philly String Band showed up in full Mummery and played a few songs. They were there for a bday celebration and it really was fun! Tim was my bartender and he was great, very personable and kept the drinks flowing. I got the bacon cheeseburger which was decent but I was surprised the bacon was crumbled and served under the cheese. I was expecting a couple crisp slices instead. They have a couple pool tables, some video games, and plenty of seating. Live bands and bingo are on my agenda for the next visit. Parking can be tough, small lot, but I got a spot on the street.

With Philly forced to have outdoor dining late November/20 due to Covid, I decided to drive to the suburbs to eat indoors. I was shocked to see beer & food specials so low. On a Saturday night, there's 50 cent wings till 8pm. Along with Miller Lite buckets, (5) for $10. I had 20 wings and 5 beers which I couldn't finish for $20. TV's are all over so there's never a dull moment on a weekend. Will come back.

It was cold, late, I was tired and I wanted to have a bad time at McSorley's and I did. The Cheesesteak was okay. It felt massed produced and it was a small crowd. The meat was finely chopped which I like. It didn't seem like the pieces were mixed together and not much flavor. The roll was okay. At $8 I shouldn't hate it but why do I have to my bar tab separately from my food when I am seating at the bar? I didn't feel the love at McSorley's. I felt like I was in a bad Seinfeld episode.

Diablo's Smoke House (formerly PJ Henry's) is now McSorley's Pub: The Neighborhood Bar & Grill. Same owner just a different name and a typical pub menu that's drifted a little away from the BBQ and Mexican food it was previously known for. Their food is pretty good and I've never had anything that was bad. They make a very decent burger. Fries are good as are the boneless chicken wings. The cheese steak flatbread is very tasty. They have a rotating selection of 10 draft beers and a "just ok" bottle selection. I go in there often (my girlfriend lives across the street) and I've requested (several times) that they get some sour beers to choose from (very trendy right now) but they have yet to follow through on that. It's your typical dive bar. A coin-op pool table, dartboards, and a shuffleboard table that is desperately in need of refinishing (but still fun to play) as well as a few arcade games and claw machines. The bartenders are always very nice. The decor is certainly wanting. The restrooms (at least the mensroom) are kinda gross but that's Delco for you. All in all it's a good place to go to grab a quick bite or a drink when you're bored or need to kill some time.

Had a 30th birthday here last weekend in February 2019. What a great night! We set up specials and received wristbands. The owner was great and came over and introduced himself. Very friendly guy! This place is newly remodeled, the old owners are back and what a great improvement. There's artwork, music, beer, and plenty of games (basketball, pool, bowling shuffleboard, darts, pinball, skeeball, shuffleboard, ms. PAC man, and golf). This place is such a great improvement now! I highly recommend coming here to watch a game or for a drink after work.

They might want to actually serve all their customers at the bar, not just the ones they know.

We came here and there was only two people running the bar! Despite this the service as great and the food was great.

I would give this bar 5 stars but I'm sorry if it's hot outside, turn the air conditioner on.

Paid my approx $67 bill with credit and rounded up to $80 with tip. A few days later I look at my credit card statement charge is $90. I know they inflated the tip bc the precharge coming in on my account was $67. Yes, I keep a close eye on my account. I called the following week to inquire and spoke to a Frank who said he was very sorry and would look into it. Then I heard nothing. Would love to give them the benefit of the doubt and they miss typed a number in. Fair warning to anyone going here. Pay with cash or keep a close eye on your credit card statement. It's fairly small with 7-8 tables and a dozen or so bar stools inside, but they have an outdoor seating area as well as a table out front. This table is the one without a TV in site. There were 7-8 inside, and 3-4 in the outdoor area. Every seats got a view making it a great place to catch a game. We sat at the bar and the other patrons were all friendly, as well as the staff. The bartenders were well versed in soccer, and many of the patrons were tuned into the game too, but some just came for drinks and food. They have a nice selection of beers handy and the menu had a surprising number of good options. I finally went with the burger and am so glad I did! It was absolutely gorgeous and cooked a perfect medium. My first bite and I knew it was a fresh patty. I asked if they made them in house but they actually get them from Wells, a Philly staple for good meats. Came with an ample portion of shoestring fries which were hot and crisp. Can't wait to head back and try some more of the menu options. If I can tear myself away from the burger anyway...

I didn't even realize there was a PJ Whelihan's in Wynnewood until attending an 80th birthday party…read morehere today. The location is a bit awkward because there isn't convenient handicap parking directly in front of the entrance, which could make things a little challenging for some guests. I recommend dropping people off who have mobility issues first then park. Our party was held in the private area in the back, but it's not truly private since there isn't a door, it's more of an open corner section of the restaurant. Because of that, it was pretty loud with the jumbo TVs going and regular diners nearby. I've been to the PJ Whelihan's in Blue Bell, and their private room had doors and felt more separated from the rest of the restaurant, which helped with noise. That said, the Wynnewood location has a huge bar and tons of big-screen TVs, so it definitely has that fun sports bar vibe. The food for the party was good overall, although it wasn't served very hot. The buffet included Caesar salad, rolls, sweet potato fries, potatoes, broccoli, crab cakes, salmon, and chicken parmesan. The salmon was a bit overcooked and slightly dry, likely from sitting out for a while, but the rest of the items were ok. Soft drinks were included, while alcoholic beverages were purchased separately at the bar. I also want to give a shoutout to Lina Morgan and the manager Shannon, who were all very helpful and attentive to our group throughout the event. One thing to note if you're planning a party here: they don't allow take home containers for leftover buffet food due to food safety concerns since the food sits out and temperatures fluctuate. Overall, it's a lively spot and did I say with plenty of TVs lol and a good setup for group gatherings. If you're planning a party and don't mind some background noise, it's a solid option.

It was overwhelmingly noisy inside so we left (obviously before ordering) and walked over to Whelihan's. Neither of us had ever been. At 1:30 the pub / restaurant was quiet. Low lights, comfortable booth seating - it was just what the doctor ordered (so to speak!) My friend sounded like Elaine on Seinfeld, ordering a big salad. It was very nice. I went with a Reuben which was good, albeit somewhat greasy. Sandwiches are plated with chips. I like this place enough to return. If they grill their burgers and can make mine rare, they can count me as a new customer!
