Ok so we spent an afternoon here while waiting for our kid to be done with his class. We sat at the bar and the service was great, our bartender was nice and very interactive with us. She took a shot with us as well, and recommended the French onion soup which was outstanding. We had been searching for great French onion soup which has eluded us. The ambiance is cool, very Irish bar vibes with TV's and music. Almost seems cookie cutter nowadays. We stayed to eat as well, and had to say the food was decent. I had the wings which were good not great but still enjoyable. We are planning on going back to do quizzo as well. read more

Yeah I wanted another beer but you didn't ask so I guess you wanted me to leave. I did, not to return! Linked under one roof is JD's Bar, dining area and Sam's boardwalk style pizza. You can order pizza and eat it at the bar or pub tables in the bar area, very convenient. At the bar I ordered a beer and immediately left a 55% tip. I walked next door with my beer to order my pizza. The young male was pleasant when he took my order. I told him I would be at the bar. 15 minutes later he was nice to deliver it. Back to the bar staff. I sat for another 30 minutes eating two slices of the pizza never once did she ask if I wanted another drink. While she poured several drink refills for the couple directly next to me. I don't know about you but I really need beer to wash down my pizza well maybe not need. LOL. The bar was dark with heavy wood throughout, the walls were decorated with local memorabilia. It appears to be two floors maybe the upper is for special events? I'll never know I'm sure! As for the pizza it was very good. When hot it was off the hook delicious no bitter sauces but a nice balance of cheese and toppings. As it got colder is was good but hot it's GREAT!!! I guess JD's is not for me but I can see returning to Sam's for pizza. I will right a separate review for them as they have a page. read more

This is one of our favorite bars in Delco. We used to live in the area but moved to Colorado almost 30 years ago. Whenever we came back to visit family, we would go to the McGilicuddy's on West Chester Pike. When it closed and changed hands about four years ago, we were really disappointed. We visited this McGilicuddy's today and found Larry the bartender that used to work on West Chester Pike which was a great surprise. The beer is really cold and the food is good and affordable and Larry is a great bartender. We found our new spot! read more

After researching local taverns on yelp for the highest ratings on their food and desiring good corned beef and cabbage on St Patrick's Day, I drove a 1/2 hour to McGillicuddy's in Havertown for a pick up order. I was greatly disappointed. The corned beef was tasteless, thick and undercooked. Offered to bring it in to show but rejected with comment " sorry that you did not enjoy it ". Request for credit rejected by tavern. After the above posting heard back from the owner, Tom. He apologized for the abrupt response from his employee who should have referred it to him. Told him that perhaps the meat was rushed for the takeout order and thus undercooked. Tim offered a free meal as an apology. Appreciate the gesture and told him so. Will give McGuillicudy's another visit. read more

The rating is for the total package. McGillicuddys is good to the community, especially youth sports. Coaches meetings to fundraisers all find their way here eventually. Also a fun place for a beers with friends. The service is always good, and friendly. The food for me is 2-3 stars. Largely pedestrian, uninspired and just not for me. However it is usually crowded with diners so as Yelp is, just my opinion. read more

We went here after my sons hockey game. It was walking distance from the rink. The were able to accommodate a leave group on short notice and the food and service was great. All the kids were happy and the adults enjoyed themselves as well. We would go back next time we are in town for sure. read more

I think this place has been around since I was in high school or at the very least since I had my first apartment in Havertown in the 80's. We were in the neighborhood the day after Christmas and not expecting much because of the holiday. We were pleasantly surprised to not only to be warmly greeted by our server but to have a choice between breakfast and lunch. We both chose egg breakfast items with my daughter choosing coffee over my choice- Bass. Both of us loved our breakfasts and beverages which were very reasonably priced along with enjoying comfortable seating in the dining room with great service. If you ever feel like a beer with a great breakfast, stop on by here. 'Twas lovely to have the option. read more

Out of all the McGuillicuddy's there have been, this was has remained the best. The food is delicious, the drink specials are reasonable, and the bartenders provide great service. It's a neighborhood bar, so everyone knows each other and has always been a hot spot for Saturday nights with Tommy T . This was my first visit to the Havertown location and it will be my last. We arrived shortly after noon and were presented with a breakfast menu. Remember, this is a bar. Our server finally came to our table and she either wanted to be somewhere else or just has no interpersonal skills. Since it is a bar and it was after lunch we asked if we could have lunch. After a lengthy wait Ms Personality said the kitchen is so jammed they couldn't do it until 1pm. The ironic part was we saw many empty tables and the place is not jammed. We decided to wait until 1 so we could have lunch. The server evidently didn't have enough courtesy to tell us she was handling the duties over to someone else. Our new server was much more pleasant, by that she at least smiled as she arrived about 10 minutes after 1 I'm assuming to prove a point. The food finally arrived and it was average at best and not worth the wait. Whomever manages this location is best served by knowing how inflexible the staff is towards a customer's needs as well as the behavior of the wait people. Reputation from other locations will only get you so far. There are many more choices of bars to visit in the area and I will chose to go elsewhere. read more

This is a very small chain with 7 Philly area locations. The owner is from Havertown so it's nice to have a place in his home town. I would call the food here "bar food +++." All the usual stuff is here. In addition there is pizza. $8 for a small and $14 for the big guy. It's decent. They also have a good selection of salads ranging from $6-$11. Add to that Panini's and you can see that it's a bit more than your typical bar. The beer list is primarily domestics with a half dozen local craft beers thrown in. Nothing special. It's nice that there is a public parking lot about 100 feet away so that issue is a breeze. Not a bad place to watch a game and have an adult libation or two or three! read more

Pros are that the staff are nice, it's a nice space, and if you are from the neighborhood it's a good place to see your neighbors. Really serves the community, supports several fundraisers, and sports teams. And it's kid friendly. The food is hit and miss, but overall very mediocre. The menu is pretty uninspiring, with some palatable items, but not the type of place you come for the food. Wish Robert Irvine could come and spend a weekend here to revamp the food. You'll find better food up the street at Sidebird or even Crossbar. Will come back once in a while, but it could be a lot better read more

Service was slow. Food was awful. Only good thing was the cheese fry appetizer. Even the coke I ordered tasted bad - turns out they brought me diet coke instead of the real deal. We had a sesame chicken sandwich, and a Mahi Mahi sandwich. The sesame chicken was awful, no flavor or taste and the consistancy of cardboard. The Mahi Mahi wasn't edible, tasted like a frozen patty that had been sitting around for months. These guys are off my list, first and last time I'll eat there. read more

This is my favorite spot to catch the game, a lot of TVs, good beer specials and good pub food, with a lot of variety, The cheese steak egg rolls and the sesame chicken fingers are my favorite. They do not have a lot of the usual's on tap, as they bring in different seasonal brews but don't worry if its not on tap they probably have it in the bottle. read more

I recently had lunch with the family at JD's on Brookline Blvd to utilize one of our Groupons. It's quite dark inside, but on a hot Saturday afternoon that was not a bad thing. We were quickly greeted by a smiling server who put two tables together to fit all 6 of us. The service was excellent...I actually witnessed an unreasonable customer pick a fight with our waitress over something ridiculous. She tried everything to make things right. I don't know if his underpants were too tight or what, but he wasn't having it. He and his female friend just up and left. I haven't seen someone behave that crudely towards a waitor/waitress in quite a while, and I thought she handled it with absolute class. The food...typical bar food for the most part but with a lot of special sandwiches and meals (pot pie, caprese salad, and a section of the menu dubbed 'The Big 5'...a sandwich creation for each of the 5 big college basketball schools in the area [not sure why St. Joe's is on that list....aw kidding! go NOVA!], and some decent pizza selections). Everything we ordered was great. The wings were cooked to perfection and just as asked, the sauce was on the side so my daughter(s) could eat them. If you've never seen a 2 year old eating a buffalo wing, i recommend it. It is highly entertaining. Oh, and they have a lot of good beer too. All in all it was a great family meal at a place that makes you feel welcome. I think they'll do just fine without Mr. Uptight's business. read more

If I could, I would rate McGillicuddy's 4.5 stars--better than good but just slightly short of outstanding. It is a very good neighborhood pub (run mostly by family and friends) with a nice varied menu. Both the service and food (reasonably priced and well proportioned) are consistently reliable and very good. The Shepherd's Pie on the St. Patrick's Day menu was the best I've had in a long time--better than that served at the Irish Pub in Philly and the Irish restaurant/store that formerly operated at the corner of Darby Road and Marthart Ave. in Havertown. While not quite as regular as some of the "regulars" often seen in the booths and at the bar, my wife and I have been steady, satisfied customers at McGillicuddy's for years. read more

My neighbor Larry texted me on Sunday afternoon, inviting me to some "brief reflief" for cabin fever. I joined him at the bar a McGillicuddy's. I've been here a few times for beef and beer events adn an occasional casual dinner and never thought much about it. Sitting down to a cold Bell's Winter Wheat and some really tasty chicken wings, I took pause to appreciate this local bar and restaurant. Service was friendly. The bar was clean and inviting. The prices were very reasonable and the food was fresh and tasty. Most important though, was the obvious commitment to being part of the neighborhood. There was a first birthday party upsaits, signs for an upcoming fund rasier and pub crawl. Local kids working the neighborhood, even discounts for members of the local parishes. Great stuff! So, I'll give a thumbs up to McGillicuddy's and definitely be back to visit again. read more

I like this place a lot. It's decently sized with both booth/table seating and a bar. There is a stage for live music (which has always been decent in my experience). It can get pretty crowded on the weekends especially the bar but it never feels claustrophobic which is a big plus to me. The food is typical bar food and is very reasonably priced. They do have some other more unique stuff though than the normal bar food fried wares. Their pizzas are good and the smallest size is enough for three people! They also have salads for the health conscious among us. But really the potato skins are the best i've ever had. I mean that. I get potato skins almost every where I go but these take the cake. Absolutely incredible. When I come here though it's for the bar. They have a handful of really unique mixed drinks which is what I normally go for on top of the normal bar stuff...beer wine and liquor (they have some unique flavors of vodka if you're into that). I think the prices are very fair and they don't skimp out! read more

We called ahead & the hostess said she could seat us @6 as I requested but needed our table for 8:00 Which was fine with us. The service was great. Everything came out perfectly & was delicious. This is the worst bar/restaurant in Havertown. I have been here a few times for football Sundays and also for lunch and dinner with friends. I'm not sure why I keep going back but my last trip was last month. This is very much a neighborhood bar and if you aren't from this area, don't bother. There are about 10 tvs there and they have the direct TV Sunday NFL package but getting them to change even one tv to something other than eagles or steelers is met with an attitude. The service is spotty at best. Sometimes they are checking in on you non stop throughout your meal, other times they will come around once every 20 minutes. Last time we went on a Friday night and we were seated upstairs. We sat for 15 minutes before somebody came back to us to take our drink order. We waited another 10 minutes to get our drinks and it took us asking three separate waiters before we finally got utensils. My wife ordered a side salad and buffalo wings. The salad was filled with brown lettuce and wilted vegetables. Her wings were under cooked. She took one bite and a purple vein and uncooked chicken was what she got. I had the veggie pizza which was arguably the worst I've ever had. The dough was about an inch thick and covered with canned vegetables. When we told our waitress about the uncooked wings she didn't apologize, only asking us if she wanted us to take them away. No offer to cook a new batch, only if we wanted them off our table. We paid for what we ordered and left, having to wait 15 minutes for the check as well. If you go, order a sandwich or the chicken bites. I've never had any problems with either of those. Stay away from any of their dips as they all come with a layer of oil and grease on top. The pizza is straight garbage. it's no better than white bread with canned sauce and canned/frozen vegetables on it. Also, don't expect to be treated like a normal person unless you are an eagles/phillies/flyers fan. For a great meal you can head a few doors down to kayas fusion. read more

JD's has a great beer selection, convenient location, and is family friendly. However, the perks stop there. The food is terrible. I often wonder if the cook A. Has never tasted his/her food or B. Has no palate or C. Was raised on processed prepackaged crap and doesn't know what real food tastes like. The only reason we go here is last minute desperation. Improvements would be simple to execute, but management and ownership would have to be on board. A few suggestions for JD's: -Add a daily FRESH seasonal vegetable option in place of the horrible green bean and carrot combo (seriously, look at how disgusting these veggies look. Grey squishy beans with overcooked carrots). -Season the beef before you make hamburger patties. If you want a bland overcooked burger you can count on JD's to deliver. -These are the days of low carb and gluten free, offer substitutes in place of pasta (spaghetti squash, sauteed greens, etc). -make your own chicken fingers with chicken breast instead of offering McDonald's quality processed chicken goo. read more

I took a few friends (just recently of legal drinking age) out for their first-ever happy hour. The bartender we had was very understanding and offered suggestions to my friends to help them get the night started. When they would ask questions about drinks, he would always answer them seamlessly while continuing to serve the ever-growing crowd around the bar. Towards the middle of the dinner shift, they changed bartenders and in the midst of this, one of our drink orders was forgotten. However, one of the bartenders taking over for ours had overheard this order and checked in with us to make sure that we had received what we ordered. When we told him we didn't, he made the drink himself and didn't charge us for it. Now that's just way too awesome. I like having this place so close to me. It has great happy hour specials, like...really great. Like my bar tab won't go over twenty bucks for three mixed drinks great. The food is better than usual bar fare; don't go into this place expecting a gastropub or anything, but don't go in expecting the same tacky wings and burgers that you're used to at other joints. And the service is great. I only ever sit at the bar and the bartenders are all really friendly and very prompt with taking your drink order. This place is packed on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. I mean, four people deep to the bar, packed. And forget grabbing a seat if there's a game on; I swear, some of these guys camp out the night before just to be able to park their bums in front of the flat screens that line the bar. That being said, the noise level can get a little out of hand, so don't go here on game night and expect to be able to quietly dump your girlfriend while you check out the cougars congregating at the bar. They have a guy play live music almost every Friday night (he's got the world's most righteous indie rocker beard) and he's not bad at all. I grew up with the bar band scene (my father's a musician) so I know the good, the bad, and the ugly when I hear it. He covers a wide range of songs and covers them well. I stop in weekly during college basketball season for Hawk Talk Radio, and I am impressed with how big an improvement this is over the Boulevard Bar and Grill. The food, while definitely on the "simple bar food" side of things, is delicious: the hot roast beef sandwich is the best I've had this side of Nick's Roast Beef and the cheeseburger, though cooked a little more than I requested, was above average. I've also tried the pizza steak, which was messy but yummy, and seen countless other dishes I want to try. Getting good service on a Monday at dinner time shouldn't be difficult for any restaurant, but the service here should be noted for speed and friendliness. read more

Came here the other weekend on a Saturday night when we were snowed in nearby. I had been to mcgillicuddys before, but years ago. There is a nice big parking lot a few doors down, so parking is not an issue. Oddly the place was packed for how bad the weather was, but, we were seated almost immediately. The food is completely typical bar food.We had the loaded fries, which pretty much taste the same everywhere, but they were good. I had the sesame chicken sandwich, which was very good. I didn't see a drink menu but it seemed like they just had beer. The service was exceptional, much better than your usual pub. The waitresses were very friendly and checked up on us multiple times. Now, the atmosphere, it is your typical Havertown bar with lots of locals. Also, many people are here just for the bar so it is pretty loud. Not really my scene, but it may be yours.
