I was worried about this place during the pandemic. Glad they were able to make it through. Used to be a haunt and was only there once since we moved out of Springfield ages ago pre-pandemic. Anyway, same place but a little inconsistent. Grilled cheese came out first before two ISOPS. Then the last ISOP. Last to come out was two orders of fries and mozarella sticks. The server was Johnny on the spot with drinks but fairly aloof otherwise. I have no idea how all those orders came up but they were certainly ass backward. The last ISOP that came out also had a half pint of grease in it as well. All that being said it's a dive bar with good food and my criticisms are minor. It was a good neighborhood bar cheesesteak. The roll was toasted, which I like. Good amount of decent meat. The mushrooms could have spent more time on the grill. The cheese was adequate. Ordered take out. 15 wings for $25. Wife got a cheesesteak that was all roll. Kids got a small pizza that was okay for them. Also got fries. Bag was only filled 1/4 of the way and soggy. Someone said it in a previous review. It is what it is. That's very true of this place. It certainly is what it is, and it is nothing more than what it is. Lower your expectations significantly, forgive the bartender if he's a little slow getting to you, and appreciate this place for what it is... a bar that makes a pretty darn good ISOP (inside out pizza). The wings weren't bad either, and their beer selection is equally not bad. Better than others, not as good as others, solidly in the middle on all accounts. My favorite was the aforementioned ISOPs. I don't know if they were better than Double Decker, the standard bearer in our area for such things, but they were piping hot out of the fryer. That's all they need to be in the end. Sure, the cheese and sauce tends to collect on one end of the ISOP, but it's worth it once you get to that point. The place isn't a foodie destination by any means. Center City socialites wouldn't be caught dead here. But in the end that's all OK. I appreciate what it has. Plus, their signs out front have been cracking me up for years as I drive past. read more

I was 16 when I first came here. I am now 48. I lived in Southwest Philadelphia. Took A bus or got a ride with friends. I had the Pizza special...!!! Back then it was $7.50 lol. But , One bite and I was hooked . I alway ordered the pizza..It's Sooo...!!! Great...!!! My cousin told me to try the wings. The. "Delco exta Crispy Wings" There are the Best. I can't Believe As long as I have been going there, I never tried them . Until I moved here. Now I go here move often. And of course when I turned 21 and worked around here. I would go here with co- workers & friends. Great atmosphere.!!! Great drinks...!!!! I love my "Jack & Ginger" . When it's time for a beer. Hands down the Coldest beers ALL THE TIME. I hate ordering a beer and it's lukewarm. I want a Ice Cold beer. When you get a beer here .You think it was in the freezer. Cold as Christmas.!!!! Everybody that works there is nice . Only in town a few days. I went to a very popular place for dinner in the area. The Cook recommended I check this place out. Service was great. I had already eaten dinner, but I figured I'd order some thing for lunch tomorrow. Ordered a turkey hoagie. I had to taste it when I got back to my hotel and it is amazing. I have the sandwich and I wasn't even hungry. I haven't even gotten to the good part. There was live music. I sort of open mic I think. The guy who is leading the open mic was playing, bluesy, bluegrass, classic rock type of stuff. I'm from Chicago where there is lots of live music and I can say I really enjoyed it and even though the place is a small place if you like the things I described go check it out. read more

So after reading some of these reviews, and considering myself somewhat of a "regular" I've come to revisit my own review. To me Pappous isn't a "place" it's a family. Anna, Lisa, Victor, Fran, Andre, Jimmie, Bob and the waitresses are the heart and soul of this establishment. Pappou created this concept 30 some years ago and despite fluctuations in the economy and the loss that all families experience, these people have stayed true to form. Sticking to age old principles that much of society has lost value in. They have gradually even expanded and grown in many ways over the years. They invest in quality ingredients and recipes, pride themselves on the freshness of their food, expanded the menu, offer a variety of craft beers rotating on draft, invested in smoke eater machines to promote a more comfortable environment, remodeled the interior, and YES EVEN ACCEPTS CREDIT CARDS NOW! For the most part the patrons have been a great support system for each other and the establishment. I've known most of the people I see there for 10+ years. Do you ever have to wait for more than 3-5 minutes for a drink refill?...Sometimes. Considering the staff aren't super heroes, and there is typically one bartender serving 50+ people...your hard pressed to find ANYONE that can be e everywhere at once. This isn't mass produced food and drink...Do you feel like the staff is being intentionally rude to you once in a while?...ok...so you've never had a bad day at work?...furthermore let's evaluate how YOUR behavior may have influenced the situation... Are they perfect? No Are they warm, sincere, hardworking people who excel in their craft and love it...You're damn right they are! And to me that makes all the difference^^. read more

I've been to this bar 3 times in my life. The first two times were great, the third time was horrible. The third time I came in, some guy sitting next to me at bar struck up friendly conversation with me and my friend. It was friendly conversation until he propositioned us and asked us if we "wanted to make some money" by following him to his hotel room up the street. I don't know what type of crowd hangs out at this bar, but I would rather not be mistaken for a prostitute by middle aged men. I will never go back again. read more

The prices on the physical menu that you're handed don't match the prices that you're charged at the end of the meal. Our server (the owner) should have told us that before ordering. Instead when I brought it up when he brought the bill over, he pointed to the front of the printed menu and said "prices subject to change without notice". Not cool Vic. $13 dollars for 10 wings? Are we in Manhattan? Those prices are absurd. If you're gonna raise your prices (which I'm fine with, you gotta survive, I understand), make sure your physical printed menu MATCHES the prices you're charging. It was super dead on a Tuesday night. Service was slow, Vic was bartending, serving and running food. He threw our plates on our tables and begrudgingly gave us napkins. I had to keep going up to the bar to ask for napkins. I miss your lovely servers, they were the sweetest women around. Bathrooms are still filthy, place is still dirty. They say Saturday's are for the boys but Sunday's are for karaoke at Pap's. Every Sunday me and my entourage take our talents to Pappou's and are always greeted with exceptional service (Lisa the bartender is fantastic). The atmosphere is very laid back and if you went to school in delco you'll most likely see a familiar face, if not you probably don't belong here. The beer selection is decent but I usually just get the $9 pitcher of rolling rock because that's how I gets down. Once the beers start kicking in it's time to get your ass on the mic and spit fire (i.e. sing a song your parents probably like). The crowd will most likely join in if the song doesn't suck, which is always fun. All in all, it's the go to kick back for us Springfield folk and I can't complain. You won't meet your future wife here (who am I kidding this is delco, you might) but it's a great place to blow off steam and gossip about your glory days and how you "could've went D1". So if you think you've got what it takes, come get your booze at Pappou's. read more

Everything I've had from here is great! I've been here on several occasions and I've never once been disappointed with my food or service. The staff are friendly and often remember what I typically order. The beer selection is great too. Honestly I'm just there for the food! I sometimes see kids there during the day with their parents for lunch, but after lunch hours I think it would be a tad strange if a kid were there. They have a very diverse 'regular crowd' in the evenings, but I definitely prefer their setting in comparison to other pubs/bars. Their is bar/table seating available, daily specials, karaoke, and some virtual game stations- I think it's bowling, I don't really remember. I think you might have to be born and raised Delco to get the obsession with Pappou's... I just love it, that's kind of all it boils down to. Not a place that I would generally go on a Friday/Saturday night just to grab some beers, but if their food is involved, it's a nice change of pace. For me, it's all about the food here. It's inexpensive, and it's good. If you're expecting some lavish meal with options abound and servers to cater to your every whim... why on earth are you looking at small local bars? The take-out beer area is a nice bonus, they usually have something there I haven't tried, and depending on who's working you can get some honest reviews on what's good and what's not in craft beer. It's a little more expensive for a 6-pack than some other places, but not by much. The downsides: the smoke in the bar can be annoying, as can the tiny awkward parking lot. Also, it's cash only. Try an ISOP, drink a craft beer, get their wings (especially on Wacky Wing Wednesday), take a 6-pack of something different for the fridge at home and call it a day. read more

Ok we came back again! And will come back again and again. This was a party of 4 with a baby. We came during dinner when it was a little busier and they had a waitress. She was super sweet and fast. The bartender even came over and brought the baby animal crackers for him to snack on. This was great service. Now about the food: ISOPS- simply the best there are. Got a pepperoni isop an a sweet peppers and onions. Perfectly cooked and the sauce is great. We also got wings and they were amazing. And when I say amazing wings that's something because I don't like wings. And then about the beer: they have some decent beer on tap usually. I have been going to Pappous since I was a kid (for pizza of course, not beer). I love it here. It's your typical neighborhood bar where everyone knows your name. The food is standard bar food, but the pizza is great! The sauce is onion-y and delicious. They always have a great selection of beers on tap, and inexpensive drinks. I will say that the service at the tables tends to be a little slow from time to time, but it's part of what give Pappou's its charm. read more

Wednesday night 45¢ wings with a drink purchase. The first time I had the wings I got the Delco which was honey mustard/hot. The second time, I got hot. I can't decide which I like better. The wings are meaty and they add just the right amount of sauce. Yes this is a small joint, and there's smoking at the bar, so be prepared to stink when you leave. I truly believe Pappou's is undeserving of their measly 3 stars... they surely warrant at least a 4. As far as food goes, it's not gourmet, it's not fantastic, it's not out of this world, but as far as bar food goes it's pretty damn good and incredibly well priced. Especially noteworthy are the wings on Wednesdays (30 cents a wing,) and the burger deals (which I believe is $3.10 for two burgers and a soda.) The pizza is also quite good, as are their ISOPS (inside out pizzas,) hoagies, chili, soups, and a handful of other items. Much of the food is also homemade which is quite impressive as well. Though they don't have THE most amazing beer selection, they truly and clearly do try. There is always something they have I'm interested in and happy to drink (especially on Tuesdays when they have $2.50 pints.) The staff are also very friendly, especially once they start to recognize you. My friends and I go here almost religiously every Wednesday and it's for good reason. read more

Just finished a meal there for the first time. I was hungry after a gig and figured I'd give it a try. I ordered 2 Issop's with mushrooms and an order of cheese fries. The Issop was really nice--it's like a mini-calzone, but with a light crust instead of thick dough. The tomato sauce is great--it's fresh and has just enough garlic. The cheese fries are standard, but they were good quality. I was so pleased with the obvious care that went into the food, and I was even more impressed with the service. The manager saw I was new, offered to walk me through the menu, and talked about all the weekly specials they have (there are lots!) This location is pretty out of my way, but I'm already planning on going back, just due to the warmth and care of the staff here. That, and they have a Cards Against Humanity night. I want to like this place more than I do... but I just can't. The service at the bar is terrible. It takes forever to get a drink, and that goes the same if you are just carrying out food or beer. Not to mention some of the clientele can be pretty annoying. The ISOPs have gone down hill but price has gone way up over the years. Sometimes you get one and it is damn near empty. If you want good ISOP, go to Double Decker. 30c wings on Wednesday is worth it. read more

Went to Pappou's, our 2nd visit, and my wife and we were very disappointed! We loved our first visit so I guess my expectation were a bit high but the service and food were terrible. Funny part is I don't complain about Resteraunts I normally just don't go back (too many Resteraunts too waste my time & money). I have to chalk this night up to a just a bad day because we enjoyed our 1st visit so much...I 'm hoping they don't disappoint! For the record we had wings (the only thing that was good), chicken cheese steak, roast beef sandwich and 2 beers ea. Two stars only because the wings were good...sorry for the poor review but you guys earned it. A typical local Delco bar. Good food, decent-enough bartenders, and your average Delco crowd ranging from the ID-bearing to the middle-aged and then some. The ISOPs are wonderful. If you don't know what an ISOP is you will just have to order one or three. They have good craft beers on draft, and some of them will wreck your night twice as fast as any regular beer for a reasonable price. Your bartender experience may vary, but they are usually all good and I have never had a problem with them. Tip well, don't be a douchebag, and don't harass them. If the place is busy you can't expect them to fill your glass at the drop of a hat. The parking lot is pretty small. If you are familiar with the area park on a side street and walk up to the place because the lot can hold maybe seven cars or something? I guess you could park in the Burger King lot, but I don't know if they have any rules about parking in their lot. read more
