Located by the train stop and bustling central retail hub of Swarthmore and surrounded by street names of pretentious Ivy League schools, Ship Bottom provides a refuge with table and bar seating inside (some leather couches too) and an array of seating and fire pits outside over pebbles out back. With food trucks, live music, TVs, and an excellent pizza shop across the street, you can enjoy entertainment, a football game, and good food along with beer or even cocktails. For beer, they have an excellent year round IPA - Shack IPA - named after a lost building on LBI. It is West Coast style, generously hopped, and very drinkable. Swell Dorado double IPA is a bit more powerful, and the hazy IPAs are lighter and less hoppy. In addition to the excellent Off Season Sour, seasonal beers like the Imperial Pumpkin and stouts provide great variety. Ship Bottom's hard seltzers are incredible and light on calories. They have 8-10 flavors and mix the flavors by order. Try the Spicy Banana and Prickly Pear! When in Philly, this should be your first brewery or where you want to finish a weekend night in the summer or a crisp fall day. Cheers!

They have arcade games inside to further prompt families to bring children, and a few toddler-park games in the outside area. They make it VERY clear they want people to bring their small children. We couldn't sit outside one time without hearing screaming and crying just FEET away. If you're ok with that, this is the place for you. Even Friday and Saturday nights it's packed with small children. Hopefully this is something that changes in the future because it keeps us from coming.

A local store with staff and owners that really care. I…read morediscussed an idea with them and they ended up being interested. They could've stuck with the plan and probably make significantly more profit and it wouldn't have been a wrong decision. Their brand and reputation was more important to them, and they didn't feel that the transition would be a positive transition for them overall. I had a personal experience happen lately that affected their decision to continue. I wouldn't have liked them any less had they felt the best direction for them was to continue with that idea. This personal experience was borderline shame for my family. They are thinking why would I associate myself with so and so and this and that, but I try to be open to all places and environments- especially if I have a reason to be at such and such a place, etc. I used to be a teacher and probably had to teach some of the people's kids or their relatives or work with some of them, and ironically, my family wanted me to be a teacher at one point. While that experience was a struggle for me including not understanding or being okay with people being disrespectful, one thing that never changed was my heart for the kids, their families, and all the staff I worked with. They could see this and I never had to ask. I always worked on how I could mesh well with others very different than me constantly. I don't regret my teaching experiences despite how painful it was for me. Thank you, Craft Beer Store, for treating your customers like they are human and not just another number. Physical violence is NOT a solution to any kind of misunderstanding or conflict, and the Craft Beer Store will not stand up for such nonsense. I would've never thought communicating with a store could become such a positively personal experience for me. I plan to make much more effort to support them than just a casual let's try this or that beer now, and you should too. Thank you.

I almost thought it was closed, but nope! There wasn't a big crowd, but it was a Monday at 7pm. A bunch of regulars enjoying the space. It was fairly loud with music. Super friendly folks working here. Our server was very sweet and made some recommendations as well as advised the specials for the night. Small hiccup with the beer I was served, but it was wet, so I drank the beer I was given. Ordered up the baked clam special. BBQ sauce and cheese was an odd combination, but actually quite good. I had the mussels and spaghetti for dinner. I asked for the Diavolo sauce, but not sure I received it. The sauce was not spicy at all, but some added red pepper flakes did the trick. The mussels were fantastic and a ton of them too. Spaghetti was cooked well and swimming in sauce. Small loaf of warmed bread for dipping. My wife had a chicken cutlet sandwich and she found it a bit bland if I'm being honest. She dipped her bread in my sauce to give it a bit more flavor. They put on the home run derby which was appreciated. All in all, a fun stop. Not quite sure I'd return unless I needed a place to hang before that next run to PHL. They were very nice and appreciative of the business and we enjoyed our time dining here.

Our drinks were empty for most of the meal, and we had to ask another server just to find her. One of our drinks was made wrong, and when we finally got her attention, she seemed annoyed she needed to come to our table and actually walked away while we were still talking, which felt really dismissive. What makes it more frustrating is that there's an automatic 18% gratuity even for small tables. I ended up having to tipping $22 total, and for only seeing her a handful of times, it definitely didn't feel deserved. To top it off, when I mentioned to the head bartender (who was acting as the manager) that I wouldn't be coming back, he pulled $40 cash out of his own wallet and offered it to me to "give them another chance." It honestly made me feel so uncomfortable and was not an appropriate way to handle the situation. The food was fine, but the service and overall experience were not. For the prices and the built-in tip, I expected much better. I will not be returning.

I ordered the soft serve margarita but they were out of cherry so I settled for one flavor only to hear the server offering cherry flavor to the next table when they arrived maybe 35 minutes after we arrived. We placed our food order at 2:40pm. I received my margarita at 3:09pm. We received our food at 3:16pm. I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was really good. The thick steak like fries were fine. We asked for the bill and it took about 20 minutes and she has to be reminded when we saw her walk by to bring the check.
