Came here for lunch on a weekend and there were plenty of seating available. Service was excellent. We came with our toddler and the restaurant staff were so attentive and accommodating. I've only been to the South Philly location so it's nice to know there is another location that is more spacious and family friendly. The roast beef sandwich is equally as good here compared to the Philly location. I usually order the roast beef combo, overboard (the meat can be a little dry without gravy) and then add horseradish and yellow peppers at the table. My toddler also enjoyed her deconstructed ham combo. The sandwiches do not feel heavy surprisingly, maybe because the Kaiser role is quite airy but also does a great job absorbing the gravy. I can easily finish one on my own. I also really enjoy the gravy fries here but they're a bit salty and heavy so I just stick with the sandwich if I don't want to deal with a food coma afterwards. read more

Service is lacking depending on the bar tender you get. Great food though. My experience today was that I waited quite awhile before I ordered. When I did order, I had to ask for my drinks, I guess she forgot. Ordered a regular coke, got a diet. Never got my onion rings. She said I didn't order them. Even if I didn't you don't say that to the customer, maybe something like "I'm sorry I just have missed thst" would be better. It was a small simple order. I was born and raised in Kansas City, MO; I grew up eating Deli foods (all delicious) in Labow's Delicatessen, my mom and dad's place. However, in the city I always had the roast beef sandwiches at 12th and Main, that I still remember as the best beef sandwiches I've ever eaten. However, having lived in Philly area for over 50 years now, I have searched for and found the best roast beef I could find to get "locally" that comes pretty close to the KC sandwiches I had growing up with. I first found them at Nick's in the heart of Philly and now have them about a 10 minute drive from my current home in Springfield, PA. Nick's is the number 2nd favorite roast beef sandwich I have ever had in 77 years of searching for one. Nick's Old Original is the only one to get! I keep looking and trying, but these are still the best I can find. I really miss my KC beef, but Nick's is the only one I can recommend around Philadelphia. There was a great place, Arthur Bryant's, near the old baseball park in KC, MO (where we went to see the KC Blues play in the 1940's and 50's) but I suspect it no longer exists; if it does, try it if you are in Kansas City and post your findings. We used to get a pound of beef and a loaf of sliced bread, and sit in Bryant's making and eating sandwiches before sneaking over to the game and watch it through the chainlink fence around the outfield. read more

Nick's Roast Beef is a family-owned and -operated eatery that has been around the late '30s! They have 2 other locations - one in Philly, and one in West Chester. The menu is pretty straightforward, offering a variety of their roast beef sandwiches and sides (such as fries, mozzarella sticks, broccoli rabe, etc.). We did a call-ahead and did a carry-out from here, ordering: +roast beef - Liscio's Kaiser roll with hand-carved slow-roasted USDA prime roast beef slices and homemade gravy +onion rings I just wished that we had ordered it dry with the beef au jus on the side - probably a user error on my end! Having it with wet meat (meat is wet, but not the roll), still made the sammie soggy; I also think that it would have been more flavorful when dipped in the hot au jus, as when we consumed ours, it was more on the bland side. I am thinking that this is a place where you should order and eat your items right away when it's nice and freshly prepared, because the last thing you want is to heat up a roast beef sandwich! I was out in the area late and looking to see where I could grab some quick food befor going home at night. It was around midnight and I happened to see Nick's was open until 1:15am and it was a 5 minute drive from where I was. Popped in and it was fairly empty with probably some locals around the bar and music playing. I thought I was relatively hungry and ordered two roast beef sandwiches and an order of gravy fries to go. Guy at the bar was friendly and the guy working the kitchen was fast. Fresh basket of fries dropped and I was watching how the sandwich was made. A large hunk of beef that looked to be a cross of a roast beef and a pot roast. It was all handsliced, he was so fast and he was slicing amazingly thin. And he just kept stacking! A quick splash of gravy over the meat and on the inside of the top part of the roll, then wrapped in foil. Fries were put in a little paper tray, then got a huge scoop of shredded/chopped beef and the gravy. My ride home was about 35 mins (food smelled amazing in the car) and the food was still relatively warm when I ate. While the beef was more well done, the way it was sliced made for an incredibly tender sandwich and the juice/gravy was just the right bit if beef/onion/garlic. Fries had soaked up a lot but there was so much meat with them as well. Eyes were probably bigger than my stomach at that hour and I saved the second sandwich for the next day. Rolled into Nick's with a teen son about 10pm on a Friday following a Phillies game. We were greeted at the bar immediately and placed an order for take out. Bartender said about 7 minutes and he was right on. Two sandwiches with cheese-and 2 fries. Gravy is preferred but we were traveling so just went plain. "I don't like roast meat sandwiches." - Me, before having Nick's. My husband ordered Door Dash from Nick's. He got a roast beef sandwich with cheese, broccoli rabe, and horseradish. He also got fries with a side of cheese. Additionally, the order sat for 20 minutes on our stoop before bringing it in because he was on the phone. I couldn't have been more un-interested in his lunch. And then I saw the French fries, which were deliciously crispy and seriously the best take-out fries I've *ever* had, even after sitting outside in the cold. When I order takeout, I usually watch them make my order as I am paying, so you know it's fresh, My go to is extra gravy on the side so I can dip my sandwich. The fries are crispy and delicious. I always grab a seat at the bar and get the same thing. I like to throw a decent amount of horseradish on my sandwich because I like the heat!! There's a lot of places in Delco that claim to have the "best roast beef" but in my opinion none of them can come close to Nick's.
