The quality of the food I had is fine, and for the $3 added shrimp to my pasta dish, I had about 6-7 medium sized shrimp. The cocktail I had was done well. Staff is friendly here. The thoughtfulness put into the decor at the time I went was awesome, and the outside decor sticks out so much it was made ready for social media. I feel like I want some "flair" with my food and all the options seemed mainstream to me. The pasta could've used some seasoning I think. I could see myself having some 5 star experiences here. This one was really hard for me to rate, and I'm going back and forth between 4-5 stars. I know costs have went up, but things did feel a bit pricy. read more

Westgate Pub in Havertown is one of our absolute favorite places. My wife Melanie and I have been coming here for years, often with our family, and the experience is always fantastic. The food is consistently excellent and the service is top notch every time. Last night we stopped in and grabbed a couple of seats at the bar after a short wait. It was busy, but Frank and Raina were bartending and handled the crowd perfectly. Even with a full bar they were friendly, attentive, and never missed a beat. It was also great to see Steve, one of our favorite bartenders, Steve who used to be there all the time and now just works Friday nights. He happened to be there with his wife, Brit as customers and catching up with them reminded us why we love this place so much. A big shout-out to Sue, who seems to do a little bit of everything around the pub and always makes everyone feel welcome. She also decorates the place creatively for every season. Right now the pub is decorated for March Madness, which adds even more fun to the already great atmosphere. The menu has something for everyone--from great starters like cheesesteak eggrolls, wings, and Bavarian pretzel sticks to excellent burgers, sandwiches, and entrees. Everything we've ever ordered has been excellent. What really sets Westgate apart is the true neighborhood feel. Even though Melanie and I live in Springfield and not Havertown, the staff has always treated us like we're part of the neighborhood. Great atmosphere and decorations for the Holidays. Wings and Beer were good. The pizza was lacking for sure. Looked like premade dough that just had sauce and cheese poured on. I also should have read the menu more caferully as I am not a fan of jalepeno peppers. I did pick them off but there were alot. I would go back and try other apps just not the pizza. Food was great!! It was delicious and the portions were abundant! I ordered a simple burger and fries and it was cooked perfectly! We got seated right away, even with a big party (party of six) Staff was welcoming and friendly! Decor was beautiful, not an eyesore, but not boring! They had holiday decor and it was very calm and clean! It was gorgeous in there. Food came out quickly, and it was warm! They have revised their menu since the last time I was here. For example, the hummus platter seems to have been replaced with a honey ricotta dip. That's disappointing since hummus is so much healthier for you than cheese. My husband liked his salmon, and I enjoyed my open faced turkey sandwich. The mashed potatoes were just OK; they tasted like instant potato flakes. The gravy was good and the service was good and very friendly. We stopped by right before Halloween because the Fright Maps app said that the place was decorated, but it must've been a leftover entry from another year because there were no Halloween decorations whatsoever that I could see. This was one of my regular spots, at least twice a month. The last time was to watch the last Eagles game. I met two gentlemen there and we closed the place down. I ordered an Uber, but the driver was nowhere to be found. Since it was freezing that night, I knocked on the door to see if I could go back in to wait for the next Uber. They called the cops on me. I literally walked out 2 minutes earlier. Had my receipt to prove it. Thankfully, one of the officers from the 5 cop cars was kind enough to listen and wait with me until the next Uber driver came. He made sure I got in the car and closed the door for me. The next day I called the precinct. I was told that it was an anonymous call to report someone suspicious. Again, I had just left and was the only black person in the place. I will NEVER go back there. It was made abundantly clear that my kind wasn't welcome. They have no idea how negatively that could have turned out for me. Or maybe they did! A good evening turned into a traumatic one for me. read more

Had a great time here. A fun place with a great menu. Enjoyed a clams appetizer that was delicious. Got the large order and it was plenty for four adults to share. My mussels with pasta were delicious. My mom loved her Ruben. And there were so many things that sounded good on the menu. The desserts were wonderful. Especially loved the carrot cake and the skillet brownie. My daughter was so happy with her ice cream. The staff was so lovely. My friends and I were exhausted after being at the zoo so we needed drink refills a lot. The waitress was lovely and sometimes brought our drink before we could even ask. My wife and I were visiting family in the area and decided to try the Westgate Pub. We were lucky to have Steve as our waiter--he was attentive, professional, and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the meal. I started with a crock of their homemade chili, which was honestly some of the best I've ever had. My wife ordered the grilled chicken salad, which was enormous and featured perfectly cooked, flavorful chicken. For my main course, I had the steak marsala, served with mashed potatoes and broccoli, and it was fantastic. The portions were generous--my wife even had to take half of her salad home! I went to Westgate for the first time in a while - since they remodeled the place, and I'm happy to report it's better than ever. I'm happy they survived the covid time too, we need places like Westgate around. The remodeling upgrades look great and the food is just as good before, if not better. Just great tasting bar food, and more. I've never had a bad meal ever, so you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The wings are awesome, and so are the cheesesteaks and the cheesesteak egg rolls. I'm a big fan of the french onion soup, the pierogis, and the hot roast beef sandwich. Theres a ton of beers, both on tap and bottled, the cocktails are real good, and they make seasonal cocktails as well. The bartenders and servers are friendly and add to the overall experience of Westgate. We liked this cheesesteak but all I really remember is the BBQ sauce. The onion ring was good but I don't think it added anything to the cheesesteak. Nice place. For awhile, this place was pretty darn good. This place is starting to go down hill...not totally there yet! Why do they force you to sit at the bar for happy hour pricing??? I understand they need the tables for diners, but we always eat. So if there are 4 of us, we have to sit at the bar and yell at each other, can't sit at a table and talk like humans. The other thing I hate about the bar is, they pour to a marking on the glass. Put two glasses of wine next to each other and one glass has less. I think they short pour regularly. I used to think the pizza was pretty good. The last pizza was smaller, the crust tasted like yeast, the center of the crust was so thing that when the sauce and cheese was added it was just a sloppy mess. No way could you pick a piece up and eat it, you needed a fork or spoon. So pizza is now out. They took the pork sandwich off the menu which was pretty good. They make a salad with chicken, that was good, haven't had it in awhile. Staff is always friendly! Give it a try, just don't expect great! read more

We got take out from here, and it met our expectations. The food was good, and the portions were plentiful. I was only on the takeout side, so I didn't really see the other side, which had the seating for dine in, but it seemed clean, and the staff was friendly. I will be returning for takeout but will have to eat in one day too. Update...I've eaten on the dining side since my last review, and it's still a great place. There is a new owner here. I believe the turnover was around July. The back story is that the new guy is the owner of the Grog in Bryn Mawr. My fellow Yelpers and I consider the Grog a 3 1/2 star place. I also hear he was part owner of The Ale House in Newtown Square but he has since divested himself of that. So I've been there twice since the change and here are my observations- * No changes to the physical space. * Some staff changes so regulars will see a mix of old and new faces. * Menu continues to be on a placemat with several additions. * Panini's are new. I tried one and it was very good. * All the roles (sandwich, hoagie etc.) are now supplied by Le Bus. I tried a burger and it was solid. * Weekday lunch specials were the norm here. They appear to be gone. A mistake in my opinion and others in town agree. * The place was famous for their escarole soup. Also gone. Hmmmmmm. * Large and small pizzas were always available. The small size is gone. Another hmmmmmmm. This has always been a solid place for comfort food without breaking the bank. Several of the changes annoy me but the food is still OK and occasionally very good. I'm going to stick with three stars for now. read more

Let me begin by saying that the staff at Westgate were attentive and professional. BUT the food was mediocre. I had been to Westgate many years ago and was unimpressed. Seeing the number of cars in the parking lot I thought that things may have changed - but they hadn't. 2 of us ordered the split pea soup with ham; it arrived barely lukewarm. It was taken back and returned piping hot; however, it lacked taste and was a big disappointment. I ordered the chicken marsala with mashed potatoes. It came with 2 large chicken breasts that were overcooked, tough, and tasteless. 1of my friends order chicken and it too was tough. Even the beer I ordered came out room temp (I didn't even finish this or the soup and gave the rest of my dinner to one of my tablemates to take home). If the kitchen were as good as the front staff, Westgate could be amazing. However, judging by the number of people there, I seem to be in the minority. read more

I've been here three times, and with each experience progressively worse. This last time, my family and I ordered a number of items and drinks. My wife's entree came with pasta and garlic bread, but when the bread arrived, we realized it had some mold on it. No big deal - just told the waitress and she offered to bring us some new bread. But then the new bread was moldy, as well, and came with the ridiculous excuse that "it was spices, not mold." I may not be the sharpest tack in the world, but I sure know what mold on bread looks like. So then the THIRD batch of bread comes out, also with mold, and even more fervent protestations that the mold I am looking at is spices. On the bottom of the bread. Where no one ever puts spices, especially round ones that look just like bread mold. The truth is, I could care less about the bread, and we probably wouldn't have even finished it. The point is, if they are so unscrupulous as to serve moldy bread to customers, what they heck else are they serving? I will never eat at this establishment again. read more

I don't know where the bad reviews come from. I hadn't been here in a year, but made a special trip to see what the deal was. For $8.95 I for veal Parmesan with REAL veal, a side of AL dente spaghetti, and two nice hunks of ciabatta garlic bread. Service was friendly and efficient, food arrived quickly and hot, and everything was delicious. Maybe it's a matter of ordering the right thing, but I could not imagine a better meal for under $10 (not including drinks.) I'll be back soon. read more

For a local restaurant WestGate is a great place. Nice warm environment, excellent food, lots of drinks, specially the beer selection. Before I stepped in I was concerned from the low rating the place was getting, but after my first attempt to find a empty table Friday night I start thinking that all that people inside can't be wrong. I tried again two weeks after thankfully there was a couple of tables empty. Appetizers was awesome, my chicken Marsala was the way suppose to be, service was great and friendly. So, we stopped in for a "date night" on a Wednesday night while our daughter was at CCD. While I will try to keep the review to the food, the waitstaff will indirectly get reviewed as well. When we arrived, there were plenty of tables open and we were able to seat ourselves right away. It took a few minutes for our server to come to the table, she seemed a bit overwhelmed by the other four tables that were occupied. Eventually we placed our food and drink orders and so began the wait. This night it was Hot Roast beef (with fries) for me and a Chicken Caesar wrap for my wife. It took longer than we expected for what we ordered, but we weren't in a hurry. When our food arrived, everything looked OK. The beef was very tender and had a good taste, but was over-salted. For my wife, rather than the Chicken Caesar wrap she ordered, they delivered a chicken cheese-steak wrap. At this point, we were short on time and she decided to give it a try rather than send it back. While she didn't dislike her meal, it was not what she ordered and therefore didn't enjoy it as much as she normally would have. All in all, not the worst experience. We plan to give it a second chance in the hope that we caught them on an off night. If we find this to be the case, I will update my review. One thing I did want to mention, supposedly there is a great selection of craft beers on the take-out side. I was hoping that selection would be replicated on the dine-in side, but settled for an overpriced ($5.50 for 16oz) Sam Adams seasonal draft. read more

A Friday night and there were only 2 tables in use. Unreal, this place used to be packed. The bar boasted that they had almost every kind of beer imaginable in a bottle-- yet they did not have a list printed. The bartender told me he doesn't know beer very well-- just name it and they'd have it. No prices marked or anything. We ordered a pizza and it was awful. Doughy, chewy and the cheese was barely melted. Very disappointed. Microwaved Elios Pizza would have been better. The waitress didn't pay us much attention, I would have asked for another beer to wash down the bland doughy pizza-- but we couldn't get her to come over. There were only 2 tables in use, not sure why we were neglected. Anyway, years ago, used to love coming here for lasagna, cheese steaks, pizza and beer after golfing or after a Phils game. Portions were huge and delicious. Not so anymore. I am giving them 2 stars simply because I loved this place so much 15 years ago. But it has declined a lot. read more

Solid local spot. Not much by way of decor/atmosphere, but that is part of the charm. Their portions for their entrees are quite generous as you can get a chicken parm or pasta dish that comes with soup or salad, two sides, and garlic bread for about $14 with the entree being large enough to split between my wife and I. Their motz sticks were very good, home made with a good light breading that had good texture (some of the better sticks I've had in delco).
