The 2nd floor of La Cabra in Berwyn was the perfect spot for my son's baby shower. We invited old friends, moms, dads, and kids. Great seeing everyone. Love this place!! Used to come here fairly frequently, but moved out of the area a couple years ago and haven't visited for awhile. It has only gotten better. It looks like it was an old firehouse and has a ton of character inside. There is ample seating between the bar and tables. The upstairs has its own bar and tables. When we went, the upstairs was full of toddlers running around so we kept to the downstairs. They have a nice variety of beers on tap! I was so happy to see pilsners and lagers and not just IPAs. Dinner with my wife last night. 4:30pm arrival. The hostess advised the taps on the main floor weren't functioning, but the upstairs was, so we went upstairs to dine. The place was empty except for a couple folks at the bar. Our server was over right away to mention the QR code for their beer and food menus. I asked about the happy hour beer special since their website mentioned a rotating IPA, Lawn jawn and Scranton Fancy, but she mentioned there was no IPA on special, so we each ordered up two different beers, which were $8 each instead of the happy hour price of $4. Bummer. I was surprised to see such high prices on most of the menu items. Tacos for $18-$19. Burgers for $20-$22. I wasn't interested in spending $100 for dinner on a Wed. night during happy hour, so we ordered the Poblano Hummus which was fantastic. We decided to each get the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwiches (no sides) for the HH price of $8 each. They showed up not too much long after we finished the hummus (great timing), piping hot and enormous. It was chicken thigh and after digging into the massive sandwich, it was just so much breading. Crispy, super spicy breading that just weighed me down. The chicken was in the core, but I would have preferred a smaller sandwich and less breading. The chicken was quite small and thin, so I had to discard the bun and fork my way into the chicken to enjoy. Messy with a good amount of pickles. The spice was perfect. Love the atmosphere, friendly staff and beers are decent. Pricing and one single item for happy hour won't have me dropping in too often. read more

Recently stopped in for a weekend lunch at La Cabra and quite enjoyed it. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, though on this particularly nice day, they had the big front windows of the restaurant open. We opted to sit outside, so we placed our order at the bar, chose an outdoor table, and our food was brought out to us. Their beer selection is diverse, though seems to favor IPAs. I wound up trying their cider, which was a good, standard cider. My fiancee ordered a flight and was most impressed with the subtly fruity So So Soft IPA, though all the beers were solid. For lunch, we split an order of the three bean empanadas, which were perfectly crispy and served with a salsa that packed a bit of heat. I opted for the crispy fish tacos, which had fried white fish, a decent amount of cabbage slaw, guacamole, and chipotle ranch --- these were delicious. He ordered the jerk chicken tacos and felt they were a bit dry, but our leftover empanada salsa solved that problem. I appreciated the option to serve the tacos with a side salad instead of fries at no extra cost! Quick note re: parking --- we parked in a free 2-hr spot on the street, but there was a lot behind the building that a lot of the patrons were using. read more

The space is roomy, acoustics not so bad, and everyone in my party typically leaves satisfied. The only negative (head scratcher) for me is the changing menu. I really came to like the early 2024 menu that included seafood and a more diverse array of options. The current menu looks and feels more like the Bryn Mawr location's menu (heavy on BBQ), which probably makes sense, just not my fave. 4.25 stars! read more

This was a great find by my wife while searching nearby brewpubs on Yelp. It's certainly nothing from the outside, but it's got a welcoming rough 'n' ready atmosphere inside. With a SEPTA train stop across the street, it draws a cross section of patrons of office workers, locals, and families. Parking is in the rear along with some 30 minute street parking out front. While there are 16 taps with a good variety of brews, it was actually a reference to their serving Latin small plates that caught my wife's attention. My wife ordered a pint of Big Hill Standard cider ($7) while I opted to try a flight of four ($10), choosing Clipper (kolsch), Green Mango Simone (wit), Delphi (Belgian pale ale), and Portmanatee (porter). There was a slip up by the bar and instead of the Pale Ale they mistakenly served me their Irish Margarita sour/gose. While my wife and I both agreed it tasted very similar to a margarita, neither of us liked it and were happy to have the mistake corrected. All the other beers were excellent, great flavors and true to their respective styles. The cider was also excellent and refreshing. One other mistake the brewpub made was misleading us to believe their "Small Plates" were small. We ordered three of them, passing up on their soups, salads, sandwiches and tacos. The three plates barely fit on our table for two. Peruvian Calamari ($14) combines the fried squid with lime pickled red onion, crispy banana peppers, jalea salad, and some avocado dip. While some of the smaller pieces of squid were just slightly overcooked, all of the larger pieces were perfect. The cherry tomatoes tasted fresh picked, and while we would not have thought of dipping calamari in creamed avocado, it was delicious. Stuffed Poblano ($11) consists of two of the peppers filled with roasted corn and quinoa, served over heirloom tomato and jalapeño marinara, and topped with queso fresco crumble. This was sooooo gooood! My only mistake here was somehow not coming away with a photo of the Duck Fries ($12). We're talking shredded duck confit with smoked gouda & manchego, crispy onion, pico de gallo, and a demi-glace. This was the epitome of rich flavors while dragging the fries and duck through the demi-glace at the bottom of the dish. Even as the fries cooled, there was no way I was leaving a single one in the plate. Service was friendly and attentive. read more

I like their beer, and I like their food. The building is new and very accommodating. Service is hit or miss, and I suggest pulling up a seat at the bar as opposed to getting a table. I came here yesterday for dinner while traveling after a coworker recommended it. We got there around 6 and were seated right away. There is parking behind the building, which was definitely helpful. I got an order of the duck fries appetizer as well as the pork belly burger. Both were outstanding. They had tons of flavors that worked great together. There were so many things that looked good on the menu too. My coworker enjoyed the Cuban as well. Unfortunately, I was still getting over a cold, so I didn't have any drinks, but they brew quite a few beers and have a few cider options as well. Good beer, great food, friendly service and awesome atmosphere are the recipe for success and La Cabra has them all. La Cabra is two story brewery / restaurant that occupies an old two story building. The first floor is wide open with tables and a large bar. The decor has a warm commercial feel accented with dark colors. On the second floor there is another bar, dart boards, sofa and several more tables. They really highlighted the buildings construction with the exposed rough-sawn ceiling beams and exposed stone walls. A few of my friends and I had lunch here on their two year anniversary. After perusing them menu we ordered some wings and their duct fat fries for our appetizers. Their wings are now tied for #1 on my list and I highly recommend them. The duck fat fries were good but nothing out of this world. All three of us chose the brisket sandwiches because the smoker smelled so good on our way in from the back parking lot. I think it was one of the best brisket sandwiches I've had in quite some time. Our two favorite beers were the Nu Nu (neipa) and the Hipster Cat Nip (IPA). I'm not a huge IPA fan but these beers were both very good. Our bartenders were personable and attentive. There isn't anything I would say they can do better and I will be sure to be back soon. read more

This is a review from a visit in October 2020. Our group wanted to sit outside, since COVID is still a risk. La Cabra has a tent behind their building that is set up with 6 large separate tables. My group of 7 fit perfectly at one of the tables. Each table is numbered and has a QR code taped to the table so you can scan it to look at the menu online. To order, one person from the table is to text the entire order to a specific number that's taped to the table. This way, the only time we saw our server was when she brought out our food/drinks. Great way to decrease amount of contact. If you want to sit outside, I definitely suggest making a reservation. Service was very quick and friendly. Went here for the second time today and were thrilled again. We got the duck fries, which were immensely satisfying and plenty of food for two big eaters to split. Tried all new beers today and liked almost all of them. Only got one oddball but everything else was drinkable and interesting. It's a great spot to watch the Eagles game and try interesting beers. Definitely recommend getting the flights so you can try everything.
