With so many breweries popping up in the area, La Cabra remains on top of my list of breweries. Not only the brews, but also the food, the atmosphere, and the service. As an IPA lover, I love their beer. If you love hazy, citrusy, piney, boozy IPAs like myself, right now is a great time because they have 4 (!) DIPAs on tap. But don't get me wrong, they have every style to fit every needs including Hard Cider. They rotate the tap list fairly fast, but some would never change, like the beloved Hipster Catnip, which is an American IPA with 7.2% ABV. Hazy, smooth and delicious. Food menu is small but solid. My favorites are the small plates. The Duck Fries, Crispy Pork Belly and Charred Octopus are MUST TRIES! Tacos are delicious as well. You get a better deal if you're lucky enough get them during Happy Hour. Service is prompt and friendly. The Bartenders are knowledgeable and willing to pour anything you want to taste. Happy hour is 3-5 Tuesday thru Friday, $3 off Cask and $3 tacos. The only thing you need to be aware is it can get really crowded really fast, especially if the upstairs is closed for private events. ( 2 adults 1 young child) Drinks seem fairly limited - ie no wine with food for instance, just beers, or cocktails/hard spirits We had a couple of starters and mains and drinks Starters- nachos with gauc - bland (1/5) Duck fries - bland (1.5/5) I had the fish and chips which was supposed to be Atlantic cod - hmm I don't think so, it just didn't taste right. Fries you couldn't eat as they were smothered in a stupid amount of pepper - yuck. We all tried them it was a resounding 'no'.. (I give that 0/5) My wife had the brisket dip - it wasn't nice and with some disgusting beef jus - it was a no-no (that gets a 0.5/5) I did see a person on another table eating what looked like a huge burger with normal fries - maybe we ordered all the wrong food Our kid ate chicken tenders - that was ok - the fries you could eat at least (that gets a 3/5) Drinks were a let down. The real deal- Kinda like someone transported a business straight out of Austin Texas and dropped it in Berwynn. I say that because it reminds me so much of the very cool places that Austin seems to foster - with that special mix of ambiance, quality and good service You're going to go for the beer: make no mistake they've done a wonderful job crafting a variety of top-notch brews. But you're going to stay for the food, which if the appetizers we had were any indication of, the rest of the menu it's definitely worth exploring. They were simply superb. We indulged in the pork belly and fish tacos - then dug into the duck fries and wings. Beautifully done - delicious, well presented with timely service. I think as many brewpubs in this area do, they are serving a broad-based taste for IPAs and "hoppy" beers. These were well-crafted - especially the new versions that they like to refer to as "mid-Atlantic IPAs". It delivers the floral notes and citrus characteristics of hoppy beer - with a juiciness that seems to result in a bit less of bitterness on the backend. I would love to see what they can do with a more balanced flavor profile, characteristic of traditional German brews. Even the saison, pilsner and kolsch had relatively high degrees of hoppy undertones for these styles. I was surprised they would not fill a growler from either the nitro or the Cider taps that they offer. The explanation was "they didn't think it traveled well". WhileI appreciate the concern for my welfare, a simple disclaimer will do, thank you. I'm a big boy - it should be my decision as to whether I want it or not. A minor low point in what is arguably an overall hit. La Cabra is a welcome addition to the brewpub scene. Be advised- parking can be a bitch, but apparently the bank lot in the back is available as parking even with all the posted "bank only" signs. They don't make it clear, but the bartenders inside were definitive that it was available. read more

Checked this place out after hearing good things from my mom. The beer was great according to my partner. My cocktail was mediocre and the food was not good. I had the schnitzel, the cabbage and potatoes were so yummy but the schnitzel was underwhelming. My partner ordered a medium rare steak and got a steak that was grey all around and practically inedible. If you want good beer and service, and a fun atmosphere, this is the place for you. Wow. Really blown away by the food and drinks here! So first the food. Got the brisket sandwich and this was the most tender, flavorful brisket ever. I could not stop stuffing my face. The onion rings, arugula, BBQ sauce, all perfectly complemented the meat. Pretty good size too, but it was gone in no time. Since it's a brewery, of course I had to grab a taster to try out their beers. There was one that had notes of blueberry. It was delicious. Really light and not too fruit-forward. Their Oktoberfest beer was also really filling with a slight spice. Well done. Overall, solid beers. The place itself is like an oak lodge or tavern. We finished work early on a Friday afternoon and were itching to get out of the house well in advance of our dinner reservations. So, we stopped in to La Cabra, a trip we've been meaning to make since it umm...opened. We immediately loved the vibe - everyone was so friendly and they didn't seem to mind when we said we were stopping in for just a drink. The chicken was smoked and had a lovely flavor that balanced well with the grilled corn tortillas and avocado Corn salsa. You get as choice of side do we got the Salad which was consisted of salad greens, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Also order a bowl of posole which was savory and filling. One of the better microbreweries on the mainline with a spectacular menu, La Cabra Brewing is a Berwyn gem. The best beer isn't in Philadelphia - if you want great beer, it's in the small towns outside of Philadelphia. Berwyn has their own awesome microbrewery in La Cabra Brewing, located just off Lancaster Ave a stone's throw away from the Berwyn train station. La Cabra is in a really cool space with high ceilings, lots of seating and two floors of gastropub goodness. From the beer list you can pick around 12 beers on draft. They brew really great beers here, from hoppy IPAs, to German Hefeweizens, to even some ciders. I particularly enjoyed the Atlas (8%) with heavy hops and a juicy cantaloupe flavor, the Zettle (5.4%) a Hefeweizen with cloves and bananas, and the Agile Panda (5.8%), a oatmeal stout with those classic chocolate and coffee flavors served on nitro. The menu is described as Latin-inspired gastropub fare, so expect a really interesting and diverse menu. We came mainly for the beer, so we just ordered the Charred Octopus with Lemon Oil ($14 - with green goddess gazpacho shooter, tomato cotija salad, and pickled shallots). It was just as good as it sounds - perfectly cooked octopus with the suckers cooked crispy, and along with that amazing goddess gazpacho shooter. The menu is ever rotating so odds are it's not on there anymore, but order anything octopus and it's bound to be amazing. So overall, from the beer to the food to the atmosphere, La Cabra checks off all those boxes. Berwyn is lucky to have them. read more

La Cabra isn't just a brewery with a great beer list, but they also make incredible food! We stopped by early Saturday evening and grabbed the last table without a wait. I was intrigued by La Cabra because of their varieties of IPAs. We started with a flight made entirely of their IPAs, which were all great but the Hipster Catnip was our favorite. Our next flight was just about everything else, and the unique flavors didn't disappoint. The chef(s) here are truly talented as well. My boyfriend was blown away by the pork belly, and his wings were enjoyable as well. I didn't know what to expect when I ordered the vegetarian Mofongo, especially since I am such a picky eater- but I was very pleasantly surprised. My only complaints would be that the portion size didn't fill me up, and they could use a few more vegetarian options (a baked mac and cheese, perhaps?) If they're open for breakfast, we'll be by to try that out too. Our service was okay. Be prepared to spend quite a bit of money here. read more

The wings were cooked perfect, juicy and crispy. Both sauces were very good. I got the short rib sandwich which was very good, I felt the roll was a little over toasted but maybe that's just me. This place is the real deal, their beer is amazing (I could live off of hipster catnip), the atmosphere is great, lighting fixtures are trendy AF (move aside Joanna Gaines), and the food is to die for. We have had the Mac and cheese, the shrimp and grits, the duck fries, and the wings. The WINGS! I've never had better wings than La Cabra....they're fried but they are so tender. We went to a private event last fall that served La Cabra beer and decided to try it later that night after hearing all about the menu from Dan. The hostess, Lo, is the absolute best! She even remembered us when we returned 6 months later... probably because I was screaming with joy after every bite. We saw reviews for the pork belly burger at La Cabra, so we went in search of that. It must have a previous menu item. We ordered the pork milanesa sandwich which was good. The milanesa was very nice thin and very crispy. I also enjoyed the french fries.. very tasty and I loved how crispy they were. We ordered the guacamole and chips- that was disappointing. I'm bias though because my husband is Mexican and avocados are my favorite food. My daughter loved the kid's cheeseburger & french fries. She said the fries were xtra delicious and crispy. Personally, I would give the beer a 10! My husband had the catnip &I loved the Pilser. It was amazed how refreshing it was and not bitter at all. We should have brought some home. I so desperately want to give this place 5 stars because I love it. I've been twice and most recently to celebrate my birthday. The atmosphere is amazing, food is fantastic, service is decent. But I don't love the beer. I've tried 8 or 9 and I'm not loving it. But it kills me that I don't live it. Maybe this season of beer isn't my thing. To be fair the people I went with including the husband enjoyed the beer, my girlfriends loved the cider. I don't want to dwell on the beer because the food is fantastic. Order the pork belly burger. There were several different styles so I was not stuck with something I did not want. There was also cider and other offerings I did not try. I also did not try the food. Bartender was a very nice guy but forgot about me from time to time. I stood with at the bar trying to close my tab and was ignored for about 15-20 minutes. La Cabra is simply a great new brewery that popped up on the scene in Berwyn. I found it Yelp and read the reviews and had to try it. My family and I tried most of the beers on tap, every one of them was excellent. I am a craft beer snob, so for me to be this impressed say a lot. The session IPA was low in alcohol 3.5% with a nice dry hopped flavor, I would compare this to a Firestone Walker Easy Jack. Their IPA was well balanced between citrus tones and bitterness. I had both porters styles and both were very good. To finish off my awesome experience, the food was delicious. My wife got the brisket tacos which were tender and loaded with brisket. My son and I had the fried Pork belly angus burger, simply yummy. The place has a great atmosphere and really decor. This is a must stop if you like good craft beer and great food. read more

If I was rating solely on the beer, this would be an easy 5 stars. Everything I had was great. The Leo, Hipster Catnip and First Rung IPAs all satisfied this IPA snob. The stout on nitro was pretty good, and the Eloise, their Belgian triple, should win awards if they enter it. I had a Cubano sandwich with Parmesan fries, both pretty good. To nitpick some negatives, the parking is a little tricky, they have a small lot and apparently share the adjoining lot with a bank but in this age of overzealous tickets and tows, it made me a little nervous so I made sure I parked in their own lot. (After navigating a couple of One Way streets and local neighborhood side streets a few times). But next time I know what to expect. Only other complaint was my server. I went to the bar upstairs. I was by myself and figured it'd be easier with less of a crowd up there. My server seemed like she'd rather be anywhere else in the world than La Cabra that day. Was reading a book and picking her nails whenever not serving customers. Beer is 90% of the reason I go to microbreweries, but I also enjoy the experience more when the servers are welcoming and even proud of their beer, as they should be at La Cabra. Ugh this place is so great!! My husband and I went 3 weeks after opening on a Friday night. We were told the wait would be an hour and a half when we arrived at 6:30pm. We went and stood at the bar (there are two) and were able to snag seats within 20 minutes. The downstairs bar is the focal point of the room, the rest of the room filled with tables. The upstairs bar is more lounge-like with a sofa, darts, etc and limited seating - standing mostly. Only appetizers are served upstairs but it really is a cool atmosphere. The food and beer are phenomenal. We split the pork belly appetizer which is topped with goat cheese, bacon, honey and frisee. By far one of the best things I've eaten in a long time. I ordered the carnitas tacos and a side salad for dinner which were both very good. Their house dressing is delish. I did not try one beer I did not like. They were all very good - great variety and I love how they have 5oz, 8oz and 16 oz tastings. They also have Growlers and Crowlers to go which is awesome. Overall, love the atmosphere, very relaxing and cool. The owner was super friendly and was helping out where need be. The prices are good - right in line with the main line. Love this place!! Such a cool brew pub. They serve the best wings I've ever had. Get the honey chipotle wings! Make sure to order chips and guac too. They don't have it on the menu, but it's they don't skimp on the guac, and the chips are so good! One time the chips came out hot and they were even better! Tacos and the Cubans are my go to orders. The Mahi-Mahi tacos are the best of the taco options. Their fries aren't that great, so I normally order a side salad. Their beer selection is awesome. I think it's time to update my review because the quality of the food has declined since I started coming here. The beer is good. They make a variety of styles (not just IPA's and stouts) and have local ciders as well, so there's something for everyone. Their IPA's are their best, but all their other styles taste like they got a basic recipe off the internet. They're not creative with their other beers, so they (ex. Lagers or English Bitter) taste exactly like something you'd get from the store. The chips and guac are the best thing on the menu. There is more cheap filler (rice and vegetables) than meat in the empanadas that are supposed to be primarily meat (when I was here last, they were pork empanadas). The can release rib special was dry and tough, despite having to wait an extra half hour for them to come out, and the brisket (on the brisket sandwich) was underseasoned, so the sandwich was bland. The slaw was dry, and there was hardly any chimichurri, so the sandwich was underwhelming. read more
