We came here when in search of a place to get drinks that we could sit outside. The restaurant itself and the area is really pretty and kind of rustic. The view from the outdoor balcony was quite pretty. We got a cocktail and a side of the mac and cheese. The cocktail was pretty good, but also expensive. The mac and cheese was mediocre and didn't come as listed on the menu. It said it came with pancetta and breadcrumbs, but it had neither. It was just noodles and cheese. Overall, it was an ok place to come for drinks, but the food was pricey and not as good as I would have expected. read more

Decided to stop in for lunch on a week day and it wasn't crowded at all. We were able to seat ourselves. We ordered the Brisket Nachos which were huge AND delicious. Chunks of yummy brisket, the chips were perfectly crunchy. The nachos were served on a large plate so every chip was able to be covered by the toppings. We also ordered the buffalo cauliflower which was delicious as well - perfectly crispy. We ordered a burger to go for later and it was quite literally the best burger Ive ever had from a restaurant. I come here when in town and the food is consistently good and the service is friendly and the kitchen accommodating. We usually order some appetizers to share followed by entrees. The appetizers were a couple of flatbreads, cheese platter, short rib spring rolls and pirogues. Flatbreads were rich and the flatbread totally crispy with sufficient toppings to make the flatbread solid...the margarita and mushrooms with truffle were delicious. The pirogues were a little heavy with the topping and more salty than needed - not a great item. The spring rolls were tasty and cooked the right way, and were more fluffy than I expected. The cheese platter was generous and was made up of three local cheeses and appropriate savory and sweet accompaniments. The small melba toast was exceptional and the whole dish was a big hit. Must try either at the beginning or end of the meal. Entrees were varied and everyone was very pleased. I ordered the salmon and gulf shrimp but asked for it to go on a different bed rather than the risotto. It was very tasty. The fish was cooked a little over what I would have liked but had a very nice crust which gave it a nice texture and taste. Shrimp were firm and rather general, nothing overly special. Bed was made up of brussels sprouts, which were cooked perfectly with a nice crunch and light dressing. Overall a very nice dish. Cioppino was the other favorite and it was really generous and the sauce was well made with a large dipping roll grilled with a cheese and garlic topping. The ravioli was also a hit and the salads were popular too. All were enjoyed and each was very generous in size. The wine list is not extensive but has some nice affordable choices. We tried the tempranillo which was very cost effective and tasty and accompanied the meal very nicely. A great spot when in town. read more

Pretty interesting location as this is hidden in the back of a corporate industrial park. It's a really cute place. Up front is a bar that has a happy hour that was crazy crowded! I opted for quiet and went to the dining room and enjoyed the black bean soup and a 14oz strip steak with asparagus and Brussel sprouts. It was seasoned well and cooked exactly to my specifications. Fox Barn at Twenty9 is recently renovated and such a hidden gem on the Main Line. My husband and I hosted our rehearsal dinner as well as a welcome reception for a group of about 85 three weeks ago. For special events, this is your place to be. We had the entire venue to ourselves because of their one party per night policy, and it made it so easy for our guests who were staying nearby at The Desmond. I can't believe the transformation of this space. It went from a sports bar to a chic, sophisticated, rustic vibe serving incredible food. Best meal I have had in a long time! We arrived early on a Friday evening and sat in the enclosed deck. The restaurant is nicely decorated and open. Our waiter, Justin, was helpful and funny! My husband ordered the Maryland crab cakes ($24), and I ordered the Scottish salmon ($24). Husband had salad and asparagus with his crab cakes. He said that his meal was very good. He ate all of it. My salmon had shrimp, artichoke hearts, and rice with it. It had good flavor and was the perfect amount of food. For dessert we had the chocolate brownie ($7.50). They were out of peanut butter ice cream, but it was still wonderful. The caramelized bananas on top were the perfect addition. We will eat here again! read more

Disappointing dinner experience all around. We needed to go find our server on multiple occasions, like to get a check, then to pay the check, etc. We had to find our own utensils, even after asking for silverware the food came & we had none. We got a short rib flatbread which had good flavor even though portions had no toppings the bread was good. Roasted brussel sprouts which were awful, and I love sprouts every day. They has a huge amount of blue cheese on them which was overwhming, you couldn't taste anything else. Lastly, the MAC n cheese side, I had such hope for you but no taste at all. My boyfriend and I purchased a groupon for this place to meet some of our friends. Friends bailed last minute, but we decided to give it a try anyway. I was a bit hesitant since I always see this place on groupon, but I was actually pleasantly surprised. Location: The location of this restaurant is very strange. It is kind of hidden in a corporate business park. We made a reservation for dinner at 7:45 on a Saturday night but probably didn't need to as the place was pretty empty. I have a feeling based on the location that their business is much busier during the week. Ambiance: Awesome! Honestly this placed reminded me of a lodge in the Poconos. The outside of it is beautiful, as is the deck area. There was a party out there, but were able to peak out and see how it was set up. Inside was very spacious. I felt like the tables were spaced out well, and the lighting made for a very romantic evening. Service: Above Par! Our server was on the ball with regards to filling up our water glasses and making sure we were taken care of. The actual delivery of the food was slow, but I have a feeling that had to do more with the kitchen than our waiter. Food: Pretty Darn Good and Very Reasonably Priced! My boyfriend ordered the specialty burger and I ordered the salmon with a side of brussell sprouts. The burger was cooked perfectly for him, and the french fries were seriously some of the best I've ever had. My salmon was pretty good. The rub they used was delicious and not like anything I've ever had before. I could have done without the fennel salad on the side as there was entirely too much of it on the plate, but it wasn't horrible. The brussell sprouts are a must! Seriously divine. JUST got home from here, and I must say that I was VERY impressed. I went back and forth between 4 and 5 stars, since I usually save 5 stars for the best of the best, but after thinking about it, I couldn't find ANYTHING wrong with my experience, so I gave it the 5. Anyway, on to the review: First of all, we got a Groupon that was insane in its usefulness. $45 for 2 apps, 2 entrees and 2 desserts. The ONLY stipulations were the daily specials and the market price whole fresh fish. Other than that, EVERYTHING on the menu was up for grabs. For the apps, we went with the sampler (which was 2 lobster and crab stuffed portabella mushrooms, 2 steak eggrolls and 2 bacon wrapped shrimp, all with a horseradish cheese sauce and ALL, ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS) and the bruschetta (also delicious.) For the entrees, I got the center cut filet, with green beans and garlic mashed potatoes, and the misses got the NY Strip signature dish with onions, mushrooms and blue cheese and broccoli rabe. Seriously, my entree was $29.50, hers was $32 so we already got the value of the Groupon almost immediately. Anywho, the entrees came out and were absolutely scrumptious. The steaks were cooked perfectly. For dessert, I went with the Xango, which is a fried banana and cheesecake dessert, covered in cinnamon and sugar that was criminally good. The wife got the bread pudding but boxed it because she was so stuffed. Just off the bat, the food was enough to get 4 stars, but our server put it over the top. Toni, our server, was absolutely fantastic. Attentive, friendly, funny, just a top notch server. The restaurant itself is clean, open and inviting. There are tvs playing the game for the sportsfans, and an outside deck for you nature lovers out there. The ONLY negative is only a negative if you are the owners of Twenty9....location, location, location. The restaurant is tucked away in a business development and took a few twists and turns to actually get to. I don't think you can actually see it from the road, so you have to kinda know about it to go there. But, thats fine for me; I plan on going back and would hate for this place to be a crowded mess or turn into a chain restaurant. I am stuffed, happy and for all that food, plus FOUR GLASSES OF WINE, it cost me $25 (plus the $45 for the Groupon.) By the way, a glass of wine is a goddamn GLASS OF WINE! Its like the pour you'd give yourself at home. Its literally AT LEAST twice what you would get ANY where else, at no extra cost. I want to shake the hand of the owners. read more

I can't say enough amazing and positive things about our experience at FoxBarn! We had our wedding reception there and stayed at the farmhouse on the property as well. First things first, Patty is the kindest, most genuine person at heart. She stayed in great communication with me throughout the entire planning process and listened to all of my wedding day visions. She made the wedding of my dreams come true and made planning so easy. I can't recommend working with her enough! My vendors that day can also vouch for how great working with Patty is! We chose to have a cocktail style wedding and rented out the entire venue. Our guests could not stop raving about how awesome the venue was, how great the food was, & how incredible the staff was. It was such an amazing night that people are still texting us about! The newly renovated 6 bedroom farmhouse is absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend renting that out for the whole wedding weekend. It's so convenient because it's right on the property and it gave the bridal party a place to hang after pictures. It was also a great way for my bridal party to all spend the night with me so we could wake up together and start hair and makeup! Went here with a coworker for lunch one day and fortunately by boss is not real stringent on only taking an hour for lunch as service was on the slow side! We arrived just before noon and there were patrons already eating lunch, but it was by no means busy. Our waitress did come over pretty quickly to take our drink order and a bit later for our order, but things came to a crawl waiting for our lunch to come out. My coworker had the fish tacos and she said they were good. I had the burger, which was good but difficult to eat. It was so tall, that when I went to pick it up, stuff just started sliding out of the burger. At the end of the day, I ended up eating it with a fork and knife. They do offer a buffet at lunch, so if you are in a hurry, that may be the better route to go. Since this was my first time here, I can't really say if slow service is the norm or not. Due to the openness of the place, it can get a bit loud in there. At first glance, you would think they are going for a bit more upscale look, but then in the middle of the restaurant, you will find a bar with TV's. The food was good enough that I will likely try it again, but I'll make sure I don't have a 1 PM meeting to get to afterwards! read more

This place is really close to my PA office and I ate here while traveling here for work. I didn't get a chance to check out the downstairs but upstairs was very nice. I was with 3 other co-workers and we had the calamari and another appetizer sampler to start. On the sampler, I tried the bacon wrapped shrimp and prime rib egg roll. Both were very good. I had a glass of their house Riesling and was pleased it was Woodbridge by Mondavi and reasonably priced at $6.50. For dinner, I had a cup of French Onion soup and side of their parmesan risotto. I wasn't into the soup but that was no fault of the restaurant since I am not really into French Onion soup. The risotto was great. I was I hadn't gotten full on their apps and yummy garlic pita bread so I could eat more risotto. And to top off a good meal was the Yelp check-in offer: $20 off a $50 bill. I researched this place from my Hotel room after a long day working remotely last November and had high expectations (also one of the few games in town that looked decent and good hours in a rural area). OMG, this place sure looked attractive from the outside and the inside was lovely and dramatic as well. Twenty9 was fairly empty as I arrived there around 9pm and service was fine. I ordered, at my servers recommendation, several items including the pierogies and French onion soup as starters and the Twenty9 burger as my main. The rather pricey pierogies were somewhat bland and cold, this should have been the tip-off to what was to follow. I'm not even certain that they were home made but I let it go and enjoyed my drink. Next came the onion soup, also a bit pricey which would have been fine except that this was the worst French onion soup that I've ever been served in a restaurant. Everything about this soup was wrong. The onions were actually inexplicably tough and the broth was overly salty, no expected sherry/beef taste whatsoever. Again, I was too exhausted to protest. Then came the burger which tasted "off" and a touch of rancidness. My server tried to explain to me that perhaps I wasn't accustomed to this type of meat (Angus/shortrib!!). I had a few bites and that was enough for me. I paid my check and left and felt burned despite the fact that this was "on the company". I won't be returning even if it were nearby! Went in a Friday night, no problem getting seated. We ate here a few years ago and it was excellent so we were excited to come back. The Good: wedge salad and the baby spinach salad were wonderful. My wife had the Diver scallops and said that they were cooked beautifully and the risotto was excellent. The Irritating: the bathroom. One toilet,urinal for the men's room so there was constantly a line. I ordered a dogfishhead and it took 15min. The Dissappointing- I got the ribeye special. ($44) Steak was cooked well but had little to no flavor for a ribeye. Asparagus was undercooked and the puréed roasted red pepper mashed potatoes were just not a good pairing. The special was just a bad choice I guess. We will be back for another chance but I think I will stick with the regular menu items. We took the whole family back for a small graduation celebration. Only 6 of us. The Food was excellent! Wife again had the diver scallops and again they were delicious. Son had the short rib burger and just destroyed it! One order of the lamb chops- succulent & perfectly cooked. Two orders of short ribs which had a very deep and flavorful sauce that was delicious. I had the seafood special which was a fra-diavalo with shrimp, scallops, crab in a red sauce over penne. The sauce was a little thick for me but was spiced beautifully. Now for the downside. Ray, our server was polite, soft spoken, and forgetful. Multiple times drinks were asked for and were forgotten. My husband and I found Twenty9 when we were on what seemed like a hopeless search for an affordable wedding reception venue that fit our style. I first came across this place as a spot for drinks after work, but it was too beautiful not to ask about their thoughts about doing a wedding. Turns out there had been a few there already so we got in contact and the rest is history. The reception was fully catered buffet style and we were able to pull off all of the decorating with their wonderful team who pulled out all the stops! Had a bit of an attitude almost raising her voice at us and at certain times I couldn't help but make a comment almost audible for her to get a drift of it. I'm sorry you have to wait on a huge party, but that is your job. Food was mediocre, wasn't great but wasn't bad. I was a bit disappointed with my talipia, it was supposed to be risotto but I swear it was just rice that they threw cream and butter in. Just wasn't all that tasty. My wife and I have been looking forward to dining at tox Barn 29 restaurant for some weeks. It's been more difficult than expected considering they are only open Tuesday's through Friday's. We were finally able to make it there this afternoon. We arrived what we consider pretty early. We got there by 4:30 and as anticipated, the place was pretty empty. We planned on having a quick drink and something to eat and be on our way. Unfortunately due to the very poor service by everyone from the waitress to the person pouring water and I suposse, the kitchen staff, we didn't get out of there until after 6pm. I will say the food was good but the service has turned us off enough that we will never go back. The ambiance was more basement than pub. The Fox Barn 29 Pub seems to have a lot of potential but someone has to pay attention to extremely poor service and rude servers. My wife and I are truly disappointed. We were hoping to have a new Friday night dinner spot but like I mentioned, considering the poor service encountered we will not be crossing their doorway every again! read more

The menu looked nice but nothing really popped. I can see this being a good happy hour spot for the corporate offices in the surrounding area. But our overall impression was just.................eh. This started off with our very first encounter with the front desk person who seemed totally indifferent that we were there. We just happened happened upon the place, needing gas and wanting to grab a bite, I opened Yelp and was brought here. From the outside, it looks like more of a fancy dinner spot, when you walk in it looks like a local bar/restaurant, but seated and looking around, it is definitely trying to be more upscale. I was able to get a Miller High Life which I love and the menu looked great. We were there for a quick lunch, so I just ordered a Reuben with fries. The sandwich was very good. It wasn't one of those huge NY style ones, but it was just the right size for a good filling lunch. The meat was tasty and not fatty the dressing wasn't over done and the bread was nice and toasted. However, a few comments on their banquet offerings: It appears that their primary protein offering is fried things - whether that's fried chicken tenders, fried spring rolls, fried ravioli. The burger sliders and beef sliders were quite decent. The cold vegetable platters were all grilled, which was a much appreciated twist. The broccoli rabe on the vegetable platters is quite good. We had an open bar, and when I ordered a gin and tonic, the bartender asked me what type of gin I preferred. While I didn't state a preference, the bartender still provided me Tanqueray instead of some bottom shelf, well gin. This place needs some work. The location itself is a little hidden. From both the inside and outside, it's definitely a cool-looking spot. It wasn't too busy tonight. We were seated in the back room and it was cold enough that I kept my coat on for the night. It was also pretty dark. Their menu had a lot of decent options ranging from semi-pricey to pricey. They had a sizable draft list as well. I started with the Brussels sprouts which were a little undercooked and I wasn't crazy about the vinaigrette the used, it honestly tasted a little bit like a cleaning product. It was over an hour from the time we ordered our food to when we received it. I heard our waiter tell another table that the wait was because everyone came at the same time. The place was about a third full so I can't imagine what the wait is like when it's completely full. It also gave us time to really look around at everything in the restaurant including dirty/dusty vents that were high above our table. I had the salmon special tonight which was salmon stuffed with crab, it was actually very good. Another person in my party had the creamed spinach. She could not even eat it, had less than a bite. The waiter asked if something was wrong and she said something like it's not for me. I would think most places wouldn't charge for something like that but sure enough, it was on the bill. Overall, food was hit-or-miss, it was pricey, service wasn't great and the wait was ridiculous. My boyfriend and I came here for the first time tonight. My mom recommended it to us. The food and service was superb. Our food had so much flavor and was all cooked perfectly.
