Oh my, we haven't been here in a long time. I wanted quiet! everywhere we go these days the decibel level is outta space. We dressed business formal and felt right at home, but I was a little surprised by the jeans and flannel shirts at tables nearby. This is a lovely historical inn and it's Friday night. Families came with their little ones, couples sat nearby and the loudest person in the room was a server listing the specials....................or features as they call them. We had Pork Ribeye and Flounder specials..............everything was plated in a lovely manner. The flounder dish was okay, but the Pork was fantastic. Squash mash, haricot vert, a mustard sauce and blackened Pork.............oh I'd go back just for that. Colin was our server and he warmed up to us after a bit. He was attentive and polite. I'm happy I made a reservation before checking how many stars it has on yelp. I was shocked to see 3.8. We had a wonderful experience at General Warren. The ambience is cozy. The lighting is soft and the seating was comfortable. The host originally had us on what they call the front porch but when he found out we were celebrating an anniversary he gave us a cozy corner table. I have never had a host be so thoughtful with their seating so we really appreciated that touch. The server was very attentive and nice. The wine selection was great! We enjoyed a Cabernet from Duckhorn - always a favorite. We both enjoyed a steak entrée and shrimp cocktail. And ended the night with a cheesecake. It wasn't my favorite cheesecake. I prefer a creamy cheesecake, but everything else was so good. I really didn't care. read more

I would give a zero star if it was available! We were there recently for our company luncheon and it was disappointing, all because of the servers, the food was good. The servers were passing around food and I noticed they deliberately missed a table or two, because they looked in our direction and turned away. When I mentioned it to one of them, she wasn't very happy! They were going around with unsmiling, hostile faces. If they didn't like their job, they should quit! I think male servers would do a much better 'professional' job! Even when my colleague asked for water, she deliberately refused to bring one for her! Had a dinner in January with my dad and siblings and the service was excellent, the drinks tasty and the food delicious. The space is warm and cozy. I started with the Snapper Turtle soup and it was better than I expected. My dad had the burger and it was too much for him but he really enjoyed it. They were out of the Lamb Ragout so I had the Steak Frites. The meat was tender a flavorful and there were plenty of it along with the potatoes. We finished with a medley of desserts and enjoyed each one. Dad enjoyed it as well so we will definitely be back. read more

The only disconnect was the piped in music that sounded like it was a transistor radio and music selection didn't meet the vibe of this historic location and decor. This classic old school restaurant has been serving Malvern's hoipoloi for a long time, and classic it is. Waitstaff is old school, as usual the decor and menu. Our group had a bevy of dishes from Lamb Shank, to Snapper Soup, Crabcakes, Baked Burrara, Steak au Poivre, Mushroom Latte Soup, Beef Wellington, among others. Every dish was properly and sumptuously prepared and presented, lamb and steak cooked perfectly, with nary a complaint among the 8 of us. Maybe the cocktails had something to do with that... Probably not your let's go grab a bite place, but for a birthday, anniversary, promotion celebration, or a romantic dinner with your boo, er, your Gwendolyn or Chaz, this is the place. read more

Man, I sure wish I had 1/2 stars. 3.5 experience. Opted to do a couples night dinner on Valentine's Day and of course this historic place was jumping. I have never been and was drooling over many menu items online. Their social media game is basically non-existent, so there was no mention of a limited menu for the night, but that was the case. There were still a good number of choices, but it was all the pricey items, which tend to come with smaller portions and obviously so many items left off the board. Good news is their cocktails are reasonably priced at $10-$12 and decent craft beer on draft for $7-$8/pint. I decided on the honey bourbon Old Fashioned which was with Jack Daniels. I would have expected something more top shelf or regional over JD. Tons of local options to show some love for nearby distilleries in the area. It was average at best. Our reservation was for 6:30 and the host was fairly quick to get us seated in the corner of one of the larger rooms with a fireplace. Nice ambiance, but the busy factor took some of that warmth away. Our server was professional and pleasant enough. Not overly friendly or happy to be there, and that's OK. The holidays aren't for working. I started with the snapper soup and it was great. Nice minced protein and the perfect consistency. Warm rolls served for the table was a nice touch. I decided on the Prime Pork Schnitzel $32 (pan-fired pork cutlets, ginger snap spaetzle, broccoli, Oktoberfest gravy). I enjoyed it very much. Spaetzle and broccoli sides were skimpy. Spaetzle was like 1/4 cup. A bit bland with no ginger to be found. Cooked perfectly. The two cutlets were a nice portion and fantastic. The Steak Au Poivre ($41) looked great. Cooked perfectly. My wife went with the Veal and Lobster Stew $38 (seared veal tenderloin, buttered lobster claws, roasted celery root, baby carrots, cognac gravy). She said the lobster wasn't very fresh or hot, so it was just OK for the price. Tons of veal and carrots. Drowning in that gravy. I wish I took a pic of some of the meals, but had company so kept the phone in the car. I'll gladly return and try a burger, or many of the other options that were left off the menu this night. What a great find! We found this restaurant the day before we went back home. Made reservations for 5pm, and it was great. The dinner rush had not started, so the room where we sat only had another couple dining. The ambiance was great for holding a conversation. It was well lit, tables clean and orderly. Our server was very attentive. We had the Beef Wellington and the Steak Frites. The only thing I would changed would've been roasted vegetables instead of the salad that came with the steak frites. The plate was hot, so the mixed greens welted and just didn't taste good after a while. The steak and fries were excellent, cooked perfectly to my liking. If we ever come back to this town, we're definitely visiting again. Loved it! Also highly recommend their Franklin Mint cocktail . Perfect ending for a great meal. read more

We held our son and future daughter-in-law's rehearsal dinner at the General Warren. It was perfection from start to finish. Patrick was flawless through all the planning and Tim executed every detail on the day of the event. Three extraordinary servers made sure the 39 guests felt at home and every ask was responded to. Being able to select five starters and five entrees ahead made for a very special menu that complimented the wedding reception perfectly. Guests haven't stop raving at the quality and flavor of all the food. Several of our guests were from Maryland and actually said they would be returning for special dinners at the General. We concluded the evening with a selection of delicious mini desserts served family style. The perfect end to a perfect dinner celebration. You can't go wrong with the General Warren for any special events or just a memorable dinner with the ones you love most. You truly cannot beat the ambiance at this restaurant. You feel like you've gone back in time somehow, with the comforting Frank Sinatra music on in the background and the servers dressed in their black button ups. I went last night with my mom and it was both of our first times here. After hearing many great things from friends and relatives we decided to give it a try. It was surprisingly busy for a Wednesday evening but our server was attentive and accommodating nonetheless. He had great food recommendations and I ended up listening to all of his suggestions. To start, I had the snapper soup which came with a side of sherry. It was delicious, and perfectly heated. We also were given fresh warm bread which had "everything bagel" seasoning on top. We also ordered the chicken lettuce wraps which were light and refreshing. For entrees, my mom ordered the brussel sprout salad off of the appetizer menu (this was very small) and I ordered the Scottish Salmon. The salmon was cooked to perfection and served with a delicious cream sauce. There was a side of roasted carrots on the side as well as rice and peas which were both delicious as well. Came here for a girls night and was so happy we did! We made a reservation and were sat promptly. We were seated in an outdoor tent full of lights and heaters to keep guests warm. They also have an option to reserve private igloo tents. To start, our table ordered the flatbread to begin. All of the Mediterranean flavors worked well together for a delightful appetizer. For dinner, I had the malvern dip- served with fries and au jus for dipping. The meat was tender and the whole meal was delicious. As a drink (and dessert) I ordered a birthday cake martini- so sweet and delicious topped with sprinkles for garnish Service was excellent! We have always loved this restaurant and have visited many times over the past 30 years but it's just not the same. It used to be our favorite spot for a special occasion dinner for folks of all ages, They always made you feel welcome and special. We were there last night and were pretty disappointed. We got all gussied up and noticed some we're simply dressed in shorts for fine dining. The host and our server certainly didn't make us feel special. No smiles or warm greetings. We felt almost like an inconvenience. The menu also seemed limited and we had to ask for any specials. (Only one dish was finally mentioned and we were told food would go to waste because it was a holiday weekend) The food was tasty (hence the 3 stars) but no real effort was made at pleasant plating. It actually looked kind of sad plopped on the plate. What happened to the gorgeous, large steaks? The biggest steak on the menu is now a 6 oz filet. What happened to my favorite 10-12oz New York strip covered in crunchy peppercorns from years past? And The only seafood entree offered was a shrimp dish and salmon. We know it has always been on the expensive side, $50 for a little filet? We would have gladly paid more for a nice size ribeye. After we ate, felt almost uncomfortable and were anxious to leave. We did see another server bopping around who was smiling, funny and engaging, we really wish we had sat in his section. Our server actually turned and walked away from our table several times while my husband was talking to her.(mid sentence.) Went there for happy hr on a Friday. 2 bartenders serving. Attentive to the 2 couples they knew the rest of us were invisible. My husbands mule was ok my cucumber martini was bitter.First round of food was ok. I was going to order the hamburger but was so displeased with the service for the calibre of restaurant they claim to be that I was not willing to patronize them any further. The bartenders were not attentive to us at all no customer service. The manager was not around when I left or I would have said something. We ended up going down the road to a local tavern and enjoyed a wonderful meal with smiling attentive waiters who couldn't do enough for you . Very enjoyable dinner. Went around 4 and it wasn't crowded, but you should make a reservation. The steak was very good and so was the pork chop dish. We had the cannoli cake for dessert and split it. Splitting was perfect because it's very rich, but yummy. Everything was very well socially distanced. No concerns regarding covid safety. Very nice menu; our meals were cooked perfectly. Excellent meal here last night. Started with the bbq pork skillet appetizer which was delicious. For entrees I got the crab cake and my husband got the beef brisket. They were both amazing and seriously complimented by the sides. The brisket came over bacon cheddar grits and the crab cake with a sweet potato purée - both of which we wished we had more of and literally wanted to lick off the plates. We were too full for dessert but will def try next time. Originally we were sat in the front sun room which was a little stuffy feeling for us but we moved to the back patio and really loved the vibe out there! Great service too. read more

Awesome restaurant. We chose it at random. Beautiful night so we sat outside. I imagine the place is busy & rocking on the weekends and in the summer. We had the deviled eggs for an app. Excellent choice. My friend had the chicken Milanese which is what I almost ordered. He said it was excellent, For me, I went with the blackened swordfish. Wanted a nice lunch in a white tablecloth historic setting and the General Warren fit the bill. This Inn was built in 1745. Troops from Washington's army camped here and troops from Lord Cornwallis division stoped here on the way to the battle of Paoli. The very comfortable old world dining room gave you a feeling of what it may have been like to have a meal here during the revolution. Started out with a very tasty Snapper Soup with Sherry on the side. I would have liked a bit more snapper meat but I enjoyed it with the crisp hot home made rolls. My Lamb Stew was excellent. Chock full of tender chunks of roasted lamb shoulder with baby carrots, pearl onions,English Peas ,roasted potatoes in a very rich gravy. It was a generous serving and I took some home for lunch tomorrow. My wife enjoyed the Black Garlic Canbellini Bean Dip with Parmesan croutons. Very creamy and delicious. Her Spinach Salad with Strawberries was also a generous serving and had enough to take home for later. Our server was very friendly and efficient. We were full ,but need to come back to taste some of the table side Bananas Foster which our server prepared for the table next to us. It looked and smelled delicious. read more

We ate dinner at the General Warren on Father's Day. I had not been there in many years and was looking forward to it. A very disappointing experience as to food and service. The snapper soup was unlike anything I have ever had. I thought they mistakenly brought the chickpea chowder. It was a light yellow and the turtle meat was apparently puréed/not identifiable. Also very bland. I ate maybe five teaspoons of it (no soup spoon was provided) and the waitress didn't ask if there was a problem. My wife, daughter and I all ordered the Scottish salmon. Very overcooked, and the portions were very inconsistent. My wife's and my pieces were maybe 1 1/4 inches wide (very small) and my daughter's piece was almost two inches normal sized). The rice and peas side was tasteless and swimming in butter. The roasted carrots were just okay. I ate less the 1/3 of the salmon, almost none of the rice/pea side, and less than 1/2 of the carrots. Again, no question from the clueless waitress about whether there was a problem. The crème brûlée was not properly seared on the top and was soggy around the edges. The Chardonnay (the most expensive bottle) was incredibly sweet. Reminded me of a spatlese Riesling. Not great but I ordered it I suppose. With tip, over $300 for an incredibly poor meal and clueless waitress. I would not recommend. read more
