Beautiful front doors

This was my third visit. Each time I come I bring a new person to share it with! I love it so much! The gardens are magnificent! You will be amazed with the different types of plants and flowers. The pool is clean and the views all around are breathtaking. You won't feel like you are in Pennsylvania. You will feel like you are away at some beautiful resort! The details of the inside are equally wonderful. The cottage was private and cozy. The bed was heaven. Breakfast made to order and delish.. made to order!! Plan to stay, you will not regret your choice!! Thanks for another great stay Roland & Anh!

Heidi's Room (not shown, entry hallway & bathroom behind me) view is the pool & wooded area behind home. Can even see a river/creek.

Very unique b&b! Roland & Ang, the hosts, were so sweet, attentive & welcoming. Breakfast was ordered via a menu each morning cooked fresh to order. Beds/rooms were comfy and roomy. The best part was all the artifacts covering every surface of the walls each with its own unique story. My favorite little memory was coming in late one night and just sitting in the common living room in quiet and enjoying the peaceful summer night. There was a beautiful pool, we did not get to use however due to scheduling and chilly weather. They do have pups so I felt right at home since we were missing our 2 back home. First time at a bed and breakfast and I'm not sure another will live up to this experience! Media is in a wooded area of PA but a short drive to the city or the main line. Highly recommend!

Alpenhof B&B is a hidden gem! We came here for a weekend with friends to celebrate a bridal shower in the area, and I cannot say enough nice things about this place. First off, we were absolutely stunned by how uniquely decorated both the inside and the outside were. This property was originally a barn, turned into a home, and eventually b&b. Every nook and cranny has an ornate decoration whether it be a custom lamp from Morocco, vintage furniture, ancient swords, or wooden table carved by the owner himself. Each room had its own theme and decorations, which was truly spectacular. The property was very clean, and we felt safe given the covid situation. There were three dogs on the property, but they were extremely friendly and usually stayed in the main house. The owner/host Roland could not have been more gracious and accommodating. The breakfast he served that his wife cooked was delicious, from the home the home made scones, omelets, french toast and more. We also spent one of the days swimming by the pool which was very beautiful with plenty of tables and lounge chairs. The property is located down the road from a park, and just a five minute drive to the downtown area. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in the area.

Since moving to Wisconsin We often return to the Philadelphia area to visit family. In the past we would stay at chain motels. This last visit to the Philadelphia area, I decided to look around for alternative places to stay. I chose Alpenhof because of all the high reviews. It turns out that staying at Alpenhof was such an opportune decision. We loved the quiet, the cleanliness, the garden, the unique decor and rugs. But we really think that Roland was such an outstanding host; he shared his family stories. He and the staff prepared and served breakfast every morning. He is a 'natural' for this job! Alpenhof is highly recommended!

Living room - Rock Garden Cottage (Alpenhof B&B)

We stayed at the Alpenhof B&B in their Rock Garden Cottage, and loved every minute of it! This cottage is separate from the main house (where all the other guest rooms are located), and is a great choice for accommodation especially if you're looking to stay a few days, in a blissfully quiet spot. We were greeted, with due consideration for social distancing requirements of course, by Roland and 3 very well-behaved dogs. (Lola was certainly the leader of the pack and our favorite, but we appreciated Caesar's attempts at trying to show us a better parking spot.) As for the property and the cottage, none of the photos truly do them justice. You'll know you made the right choice, as soon as you see it in person. The property itself is pristine and the cottage is an eclectic mix of a range of different styles that remind you of different places - an exposed rock facade, accent walls and carpets of bright red hues, intricate carvings and wall decor, as well as louvered doors for that cabin-by-the-sea feel. The rooms are all very well lit, and in the day time you'll be spoiled for choice on which curtains and windows to open to let all of that glorious sunshine in. In addition to the stately living room, and the extremely comfortable bedroom, we were very pleased with the full size kitchen. The cottage also comes with 1.5 (extremely clean) bathrooms, and the full bathroom features a rain shower head. The cottage features a private deck with patio chairs, for a great view of the pool - which you can access by walking down stairs hewn from rock. Due to Covid restrictions, the communal dining experience for breakfast was on pause, but Roland kindly offered to bring us breakfast to the cottage's deck every morning. The breakfast is made to order, and was delicious - and we highly recommend it. Roland and Anh run a terrific bed and breakfast, and we will definitely be visiting and picking the Rock Garden Cottage again. If you're in the area, let yourselves be tempted to give some of the hotel chains a miss, and treat yourselves to Alpenhof instead!

We also enjoy the lovely drive to get there. My children took me there for Mother's Day this year and we had the best time sharing appetizers and wine. My daughter and I visited a few weeks ago and apparently they have a new chef. I'm sure the menu is amazing if you are having dinner at the inn. However, their new shareable menu is anything but shareable!! Roasted carrots, asparagus, and tomato salad aren't exactly sharing friendly. We miss the large charcuterie board they used to have, the hummus platter, and the artichoke dip. Wonderful to share with a bottle of wine or two. The staff is incredibly friendly and engaging, and more than willing to tell you more about the property or the selection of very good wines that they serve. The flights are reasonably priced and provide a tasty selection of red, whites, or rosé. Of particular note, the Cabernet Franc and the Pinot Gris stand out as excellent selections. Grace winery also offers a selection of small plates, shareables, and other quality food items from their kitchen - and there are a number of excellent options. Of note are the burgers, the lobster sliders, the cheesesteak sliders, and the shrimp tacos. As the name suggests, Grace winery also has an in that guest can book if they're looking for a romantic getaway. There are many great options nearby that are worth visiting, you could very easily spend an entire day or the better part of a weekend without ever leaving the property. Highlights include beautiful, well-maintained grounds to walk around, a pool, horses and other animals, and the vineyard itself.

When we arrived at the circular drive to the 1860's Darlington Mansion our hopes increased. Innkeeper, Lori, met us at the door and toured us through the three stories of this well preserved and restored mansion. Inside we found a gorgeous home, well appointed with period pieces. Lori showed us all the rooms before taking us to the Percy Suite, an elegant area with a sitting room, walk-in closet, and gas fireplace. The bed was very comfortable and several windows made the spacious room feel even warmer. We travel often and have stayed in dozens of B and B's. We've learned the innkeeper can make or break your stay. Lori is a gem. She makes you feel welcome in all the common spaces and around the grounds, has a small frig for your cold items, and even offers a variety of wines for your enjoyment. We had a glass of Mondavi Cab. Quite nice. Each room has a guest notebook covering Lori's great 8 restaurants and area sights to see. Thoughtful and well done. We opted for her top choice, Vudu's Cajun Cuisine and had a great meal. In the morning she puts out coffee and tea at 7:30 am then serves up a mean breakfast at nine. We skipped lunch that day; we were so full. If you are in the West Chester area and love a romantic getaway, this place is a must. Lori also does wedding venues and business stays. We wish her the best of successes.

Built in the 1860s and beautifully restored, the hotel is beautiful. Formerly Faunbrook Bed & Breakfast, it's now a book-themed hotel, with seven rooms filled with books you can read during your stay. We stayed in Jane's Room - a room inspired by Jane Austen. Not only was the room gorgeous (complete with a great selection of books, picture of Jane above the bed, and a bed draped with red velvet), the bathroom was gorgeous, too. And the room had all the amenities: electric tea kettle, coffeemaker, towels, slippers, and more. They also have a very nice main level with space for reading or sitting by the fire. Just a beautiful building. The hotel is self-check-in style. They text you the day of your stay with the code for the front door and the combination for the lockbox for the key to your room. It didn't take away from the lovely stay. It snowed overnight during our stay, so we woke up to an even more charming hotel. That added to an already wonderful stay. If you're a reader or even if you're not, you can have a great hotel stay at this unique and charming hotel.

Cozy, friendly and within decent range of my destinations. Parking was easy as they have a small lot at the back of the building. Breakfast was delicious and the coffee was great. My room was on the 3rd floor, so beware if you are bring a lot of luggage as there are no elevators (not that I was expecting any). I reserved this room as I wanted the fireplace. My only caveat: If you plan on using the fireplace, it is gas, and I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get it on the first night. I asked the next morning and didn't realize I had to ask for the pilot light to be lit. It was early October and it had just gotten cool out. The hosts were so accommodating! There is a small pantry area where there is a fridge for common use if needed with bottled water and coffee/tea available. (Keurig and Kcups). This was my first time booking a B&B and it was the perfect experience. My only SLIGHT disappointment was that the Wi-Fi left a little to be desired. It was sometimes spotty, but still got me through. I would most definitely recommend it and if I am in the Philly area, would book it again in a heartbeat!

I was hesitant because I've had mixed experiences with AirBNB but once we arrived, I was in love! Please note that the lady who previously owned this passed and a family purchased this. With that said, we had some quality time with one of the gentlemen who now own it. First off, a fantastic human Ken is. Second, he told us he and his sons have plans. It's not my place to speak to some of those plans but just know they will preserve this place and its history and love. At the time, the "breakfast" part is on hiatus. It's not a negative though. This area of New Castle is a gem of a place and to be in a house that is over 150 years old is phenomenal. You're not getting the Ritz. You might see some paint flaking. You might have something not work. The floors might creak. But!!! Stop for a moment and think of how many people have passed through that house. Now, Ken and his family have made the rooms cozy and inviting. Everything you need for a few days or a week or two! Our room was nautical which, being a former sailor, I loved! The bed was comfy and the bathroom was perfect -- though my wife would love huge area to put all of her stuff! No biggie though. You're in walking distance to extremely historical sites, great food, and Battery Park. I honestly want to give up everything and help them bringing this thing to the level they envision! Good luck, Ken and family. We will certainly be back!
