The owner's were delightful, hospitable, and fascinating to engage in conversation with but for the price and condition of the older building I was looking forward to checking out and getting to a normal hotel with all the amenities and just have a more modern and relaxing experience. This place has certainly seen better days. There is nothing around the area to see or do either.

We decided to take a motorcycle ride…read moreto Crystal Cave in nearby Kutztown, PA, and when researching local places to stay on the internet, Landhaven popped up. It was close to our destination (on the same route, actually) and had good reviews in several sites. The website, photos, room descriptions etc looked nice, and the prices were competitive with chain hotels in the area. We wanted to avoid the really small "Bates Motel" type places, and liked that Landhaven was locally owned, part of a historic general store, and had nice amenities as well as quirky charm. We did not make a reservation in advance (though the website said all rooms were available). Instead, we thought we would rest the motorcycle (and our butts), visit Landhaven and get a sense of it before deciding to stay. Landhaven is a B&B built around an historic general store, and they've kept the store, items, decorations and features from when it was originally built in the late 1800s. Landhaven is positioned at a 4-way stop in the small, quaint Huff's Church village near Barto, PA. As we arrived, we parked the motorcycle and approached the B&B and were greeted by Donna Land who invited us in. We discussed our destination and that we were considering staying there for 1 night, and Donna was very engaging, no hard sell, listened for a while and took us on a short tour. Mrs. F and I had time pressure to get to Crystal Cave before it closed, so after jawing with Donna for a bit, we decided to stay. We paid Donna with Amex via a Square payment processor, exchanged some basic info about our return time and breakfast in the morning, and we were back on the motorcycle headed to nearby Crystal Cave. Fun fact: Because one of us snores like a chainsaw (I won't say whom), Mrs. F and I treated ourselves to 2 rooms at Landhaven. Mrs. F stayed in the Bittenbender Room, and I opted for the Pilgert Room. Expensive, yes... but also a fun way to experience the unique features of each room, which featured wonderful ambiance, quality beds, and great bathrooms with sauna showers, whirlpool tubs, and more. We had free Wi-Fi that worked quickly and well. The only amenity missing from each room was television... and frankly, that was part of the fun! Well, Mrs. F and I motorcycled away, and had a great time at Crystal Cave, a little tour of Kutztown, PA (during Move In Weekend at Kutztown University), and had great meals at Saucony Creek Craft Brewery before arriving back at Landhaven before dark. Driving back on the motorcycle, there was a big event with a live band at the local church down the road (Donna called it a picnic). We could have easily walked to the party, but we were exhausted from riding all day. When we returned for the evening, Donna and Ed Land greeted us, we talked for a bit about what time we wanted breakfast, and then retired to our rooms for the night. The next morning, Donna cooked us a delicious breakfast, clearly made from scratch. Mrs. F, Donna and I sat for a hour and talked most pleasantly over breakfast (Ed had gone to Bethlehem, PA to teach a blacksmithing class). The Landhaven experience was friendly and low key... Donna and Ed do a great job of maintaining the ambiance and amenities of Landhaven, but they don't take themselves too seriously... which we deeply appreciated. Some bed and breakfast places can be "too clever by half" and be a turnoff. Not Landhaven! It combined uniqueness, charm and amenities with a welcoming atmosphere of just plain folks. As Mrs. F and I rode away from Landhaven, we felt we got a good value, as well as a special lodging experience that made our weekend adventure into a great memory. If you're in the region, give Landhaven a chance to work its charm on you.

We stayed in Room 10 which features a king size bed and a large soaking tub. The bed was comfortable, clean, and the bathroom was sizable. We always felt like there was a lot of space to unwind and relax when we were in our room. We were offered the Fall menu when we were there. On day 1 I had the apple crumble French toast (AMAZING) and I'm not even a big French toast guy. Your table has fresh orange juice, water, and coffee/tea when you come down and get seated. Loved this. On day 2 I had the traditional breakfast and enjoyed it thoroughly. The staff was friendly and accommodating - as expected from a well run B&B. We were on site for a small gathering of gamer friends and so I also tried some of their offerings in the small cafe. I tried Italian wedding soup for lunch and got several hot tea drinks. All excellent. They have a small "snack room" near the main entrance that has popcorn, and water, coffee maker, and other small amenities to make your stay more enjoyable. Overall, this was one of the most visitor-focused B&B we've had the pleasure of staying in. It sounds obvious to say that, but it his place really puts your money to work to make you enjoy your stay. Thank you!

The Glassburn Inn, located in Fogelsville, Pennsylvania, is a beautiful historic hotel, and you can truly feel its charm and character the moment you arrive. When we first pulled in, there was no snow, and the entrance looked absolutely picturesque and welcoming. From the start, the staff was incredibly friendly and made us feel right at home. The next morning was pure magic -- we woke up to freshly fallen snow and the most gorgeous winter view from our room. It honestly felt like something out of a postcard. The combination of the historic charm and the snowy landscape made it even more special. Our stay included a continental breakfast, but don't let that description fool you -- this was anything but ordinary. They offered made-to-order omelettes, eggs cooked any style you like, crispy bacon, home fries... it was a full, hot, delicious breakfast and such a treat! The birthday party was held in another building on the property called The Dairy, and it is absolutely beautiful. The Dairy can accommodate up to six guest rooms and features a large living area, a spacious dining area, and a fully equipped kitchen, along with an outdoor deck. It's perfect for gatherings and special celebrations -- private, cozy, and thoughtfully designed. With all the snow, my car just wasn't cooperating. Although the grounds were well plowed, I couldn't make it up the hill. Once again, the staff went above and beyond -- they graciously drove us up to The Dairy so we wouldn't miss a thing. That level of service really stood out. If you're in the area and looking for a relaxing getaway at a beautiful historic inn with outstanding staff, the Glassburn Inn in Fogelsville, Pennsylvania is absolutely the place to stay. Unfortunately, for a special anniversary stay separate from any party, it was not the relaxing getaway we had hoped to have. The property is indeed beautiful. We walked around a bit hoping to enjoy the "trails" on their property map, but they weren't well marked. When we thought we were on a trail, it would abruptly end in lawn. The staff is friendly, but seemed a little disorganized. We called to confirm our reservation earlier that day and they couldn't find it, so we made another one for a more expensive room since our original choice wasn't available. But when we checked in they gave us our original, smaller room under a reservation that was still there. To their credit, they did fix it so we were not charged for two reservations, and we chose the larger room after all. Our room was in the Pack House. It was airy with a high ceiling and comfortable bed, a mini fridge, and a balcony shared with the room next door. The DirectTV and A/C wall unit were a little clunky to operate, but workable. The main issue for us was the noise because there was a party room downstairs. There are quiet hours posted from 11 pm to 7 am - and not long after 7 am (on a Saturday morning!) there was loud music that ruined our morning. My guess is it was early morning wedding prep, and it was technically not breaking quiet hours, but unwelcome for us "outsiders" nonetheless. On the brighter side, breakfast was included in our rate and was very good. In addition to light fare of pastries, fruit, and yogurt in a small buffet, we got to pick an entree from a large menu of options. Our entrees were simple, but good. Check out was easy and I was asked if I wanted a printout or email. I requested email, and over 24 hours later I still haven't received it. This is a pretty good reflection of our experience: promises that were not quite delivered, leaving us mostly disappointed, especially for the cost. If you are not part of a wedding or event, I would not stay here unless you are okay with disruptions.

In fact, I'd say it was one of the most enjoyable experiences ever. You walk into a beautiful, updated, wooden space that is warm and inviting. The rooms are redone in a very classy, vintage style. Nothing over the top, but a perfect balance between comfy and elegant. Head downstairs for some fresh cookies and wine glasses. Open up a bottle of your favorite vintage from one of the dozen or so wineries located nearby, including Folino Estates. Draw a nice, warm bath in a bear claw tub, relax and sip your favorite sparkling wine. Or enjoy the night in the outdoor common area. After a good night's sleep, wake up and enjoy a simple breakfast in the dining area and start your day hanging out on Main Street or heading out to the wineries. I recommend going when the nearby university isn't in session. But if you visit on a weekend during the semester, the Inn offers white noise machines to help ensure you have a relaxing night's sleep as well. A wonderful experience for a couple's getaway, or a great place to rent multiple rooms if you're having a reunion or wedding nearby. Can't wait to head back again.

We did a search for B&B's in the area and took a chance on the Main Street Inn. We absolutely fell in love with this place! The owners were adorable and extremely pleasant. We would always ask for a particular room which we fell in love with. There was another wine festival that we wanted to attend this month (April) and decided we would give the new proprietors our business. We booked the same room and at the time while making the reservations on line I mentioned that we would be checking in between 5:00pm and 5:30pm (we went to the wineries first). We received an email giving us a four digit number which would give us access to the outer door and to our room. We arrived at the Inn at about 5:15pm and used the four digit number numerous times and couldn't gain entry to our room. We called the manager Amy five times and left several messages and no response. We waited for an hour and a half before someone came and apologized for giving us a wrong code! When we got into the room it was decorated differently but it was neat and clean. There is no excuse for us to wait and hour and a half when it states in the email that if we are need of anything or having any problems to call and no one answers the phone. Note: My girlfriend remembered that the new owners owned an winery in the area and she called and spoke to someone within the winery and advised her of our dilemma and five minutes later is when the manager Amy finally called and ten minutes later a nice young lady opened the door for us and apologized for the situation. I want to be clear I was extremely frustrated and the Inn did lose a little of that Kutztown charm but it was nice and clean and I really like the small town charm of Kutztown!
