I visited Great Valley diner / grille to have a quick breakfast at this location with my friend after a long tennis match. It was right on Lancaster Avenue that it was easy to locate, with plenty of parking. Inside the restaurant there were specials board, we were greeted and asked to sit anywhere we prefer, there were probably four tables occupied at that time. The ambiance of the restaurant inside is definitely good for a diner. As we were handed out the menu, we were asked about anything to drink, and we ordered coffee and orange juice. The menu looks very good with a wide range of breakfast and non breakfast items, and some of them had some Greek influence dishes as well. I ordered a stack of pancakes and house hash browns with onions and peppers. My friend ordered French toast with banana and walnuts. We got our coffee very quickly, and I ordered it with milk. However, the milk doesn't taste good, but the coffee was okay. When I got the pancakes the pancakes were cooked perfectly fine and hash browns was the highlight of the breakfast I enjoyed it thoroughly we were handed out the check, we paid and we walked out overall it was a a very good experience, I would have rated five stars if the coffee was provided with the right quality of milk. I will definitely visit this place again to try non breakfast menu items they looked very good . It's definitely worth the place. Try it,and you will definitely like it. They have only been open since this past Friday as of the time of this writing. I'll be gentle. Basically, they took what used to be the KFC/Taco Bell, and turned it into a diner. They have breakfast served all day, a complete sandwich menu for lunch, and entrees ranging from steaks to turkey to seafood to Italian. What they don't have yet are desserts, but I was told they're coming soon. So to compare them to local diners, I've lost track with what's going on with what used to be Paoli Diner up the street. This place won't have to do much to be better than that. The little Frazer Diner has some similar dishes at a much cheaper price but it's hit or miss and very cramped with limited hours. I can't really compare them to Classic Diner as that wouldn't be fair. They may have positioned themselves just right when it comes to local diners. Their competition might be more from some of the local pizza and sandwich shops such as Venice Pizza nearby which does a brisk lunch business. Also they're in a shopping center with several unique choices to eat nearby. It will be interesting to see how they fare in this atmosphere. I know what you're saying... Get to the food already! I picked a lunch special that I'm not sure they'll have every day. It was the Prime Rib Panini which came with Swiss cheese, spinach, red peppers and onions on it. The deal included fries and soup for $9.95. I went with the creamy turkey rice soup. The soup was excellent. I'd eat a bowl of that. The sandwich was quite good, although it could have used a little more meat in my mind. The fries were a bit unevenly cooked as I had some which were nice and crispy, some which were floppy and soggy, and at least one that was so hot in the middle that it burned on the way down forcing me to grab my ice water. They need to get the consistency right on those. For now, 3 stars is about right until I try a few more dishes from them to see if they deserve an upgrade. They're worth a shot. read more

Great Valley Diner on Route 30 in Malvern, PA, sits in a former fast food structure, but aside from the general boxy nature of the space, it has escaped its past, and now looks something like what it is - a kitchen for three squares a day. It has a small counter with three or four spinners, and a dining room with a dozen or so booths and tables. The menu has all the usual suspects, especially breakfast, with a full list of egg/omelet, pancake/french toast possibilities and decent coffee served in red mugs. I went with their Italian Omelet, but subbed feta cheese for their regular provolone. No sweat. It was served less than ten minutes later and was quite good, with crispy home fries and rye toast. There were plenty of sweet sausage, onion and pepper in addition to the fresh feta. Service was provided by a family member, who was pleasant and attentive. My red mug was refilled twice without request. Adequate parking. Exiting from the connecting shopping plaza onto Route 30, a bit confusing. 3.5 STARS read more

No stars would be a better depiction of my experience. My husband and I took our 3 kids out for lunch and could not agree on a place so I decided to try something new. This place was the former Kentucky fried chicken and I thought might be cute. It turns Out that this place was weird and beyond quirky. It was empty and still it took forever to order. Our food order was incorrect on 2 accounts But rapidly corrected. I had a bite or my sandwich that was both greasy and dry at the same time. The rye bread was soaked in a substance that was similar to butter but tasted like sub par margarine. I tried to doctor it up with the side of coleslaw of which they forgot to put on my plate but the slaw was old and unappetizing. Ugh... Everything was a basic disaster. I did not touch my food and the server did not question me. My kids even commented that the service was slow and not exactly bubblieee. On the ride home my husband quipped "at least he didn't point out the hair in our 6 year old daughters milk shake" .... Gagging... We have had a number of lunches here. Repeatedly we have found the soup of the day only lukewarm. Worries me it is not hot enough for food safety. I requested one of their special lunch sandwiches and it comes with soup. I did ask for provolone rather than Swiss cheese on my sandwich. Well you guessed it.....cold soup and Swiss in my sandwich. The waitress did not have a good reply to my dissatisfaction saying she told the cook to use provolone but no effort to remake the sandwich or take it off the bill. Needless to say we won't be back. I was a little worried when there was no one else patronizing the place. The place was clean. On the menu were a grilled chicken sandwich or a fried chicken sandwich. We chose a grilled sandwich to avoid the fried food for health reasons. I thought we would get a typical flame grilled chicken filet. No, it is grilled in tons of oil on a flat bacon and egg style grill. Pretty tasteless filet also. Fries came with the sandwich and were a poor rendition of MacDonalds skinny fries and not a large portion. The meal satisfied my hunger but was far from a nice experience. Great Valley Diner used to be our favorite spot for breakfast and sometimes dinner. We will no longer be eating here after our last experience. Our waitress from the week before sat us and told my son, who has special needs, that he really made a mess last time and if he does it again she will be mad. Later, when my husband was ready to check out he over heard her talking to another coworker saying my son is the reason she doesn't want to have kids. My son has Autism and navigating the community isn't always easy. We try our best to have our boys behave and clean up their messes at the end of a meal. She did not have tolerance or compassion, and therefore, we will be taking our business elsewhere. Kindness counts. read more

I had turkey club, and it was OK; I would have preferred real turkey instead of lunch meat, and tastier bacon would have helped. Jen, our server, wasn't too enthusiastic, but she matched the enthusiasm of the food. Seems like they could add a few more tables, and the counter area has the flatware, menu, and register there, so I couldn't imagine anyone sitting there. Remove those barstools and reconfigure the area, and you could get more tables in there to seat more guests. It's located at Rt 30 and Rt 401 in a tired-looking shopping center. Wouldn't go again unless there wasn't an available option. read more

The quality of the food has gone downhill. I remember the first time coming here, the breakfast was hearty and satisfying. The last few times, the meat was not fresh and the soup taste unusually sour. I did not finish my meal and I hate to waste food. However, it's not worth getting food poisoning either. I only came here the last time was because Nudy's in Malvern was packed and the wait was at least 40 minutes. The name lead me to think it was more grilled foods but its generally a Diner. That in mind the menu selection is okay as Diners go. Not busy on a weeknight for dinner (yeah!). Menu is varied, but you come here for breakfast. Order was correct and arrived hot. Obviously freshly made (didn't hear any noise from "Chef Mic" - microwave). Our waitress Amy was fantastic (friendly without being pushy or super fake). All in all it was a great visit. Sure the interior is politely described as "dated" - but what are you expecting, white linen tablecloths, candles, and crystal chandeliers? It's a family diner that is great for kids. My buddy and I gave this a pace try after work recently. We each had something pretty basic. We both had salads to start. He had a wrap w/fries I had a Buff. Chicken cheesesteak w/ fries. We each had a soda. Total Bill was around $30, pretty much expected in that area. My Cheesesteak was very good. Great size portion and the fries were fresh. The side salad could of used a little more lettuce for the price. The place itself was tiny. I'd say 12ish tables and about 6 of them were filled. The server was great and friendly. The Great Valley Grill cannot compare to the other diners/restaurants in the malvern/frazer/paoli area. They're a wannabe diner with a menu pretty much copied from every other diner in the area (as far as breakfast/lunch goes), only with sub-par quality. The eggs came out cold and rubbery and the toast was cold as well. It seemed it had been sitting around for a little while. Also, there was a hair in my friends home fries. That was pretty gross. They weren't even busy, so there wasn't really an excuse for that. The staff was generally pleasant, although a little overbearing. The waitress asked how our food was twice and then the hostess..or maybe she's a manager..not sure but at any rate...the obese women who works at the front came by and asked how our food was right after the waitress left our table. It was hard to enjoy the conversation of my company when the staff kept interrupting. Anyways, I just wasn't impressed at all and I think I'll stick to the Classic diner or Nudys read more

This diner has become our weekly breakfast stop for months now - I can't give it 5 stars due to the number of incorrect orders (always quickly corrected with a smile) but if diners are your thing give this one a try. Really good food, quickly served, large portions, reasonable prices. Get in now because the word is getting out - those tired of The Classic Diner (I'm not a fan AT ALL) or waiting for Nudy's will appreciate it. This is my "go to" place for brunch, anytime during the day. When I go past this diner, I want to go in. The service is good. I usually order a breakfast meal any time I go there. It is always excellent. The coffee is always good, too. I have taken friends there also. Although they might not have been as thrilled as I am about it, usually because they do not like diner food. There prices are good and the people are extra pleasant. helpful and can be speedy if you tell them you are in a hurry. We have eaten here before so we thought why not after an early morning hockey game and everywhere else was crowed. Now I know why they weren't crowded. Unbelievably a dark haired waitress refused to seat and serve us. There were three tables open and not one clean. We asked if we could sit anywhere and the answer was yes. So we decided to wait until the one booth was clean rather than take the rickety tables in the center. At 9:45 The waitress said "just one moment." But 20 minutes later at 10:05 the booth was still not clean. The dark haired waitress continued to walk around us, waited on others, cleaned other tables, got others their food, looked at us and turned up her nose and walked by. When we finally got seated and served I gave the other blond haired waitress who went out of her way to help us a double tip and explained to my twins-- When someone acts that ignorant- reward the good people who surround and support you. I highly recommend that others not waste their time and money here. If the people that work there don't care about the customers, why give them the business.
