Went there on Saturday 4-25-26 for breakfast with four people. Place was not busy at all took awhile for waitress to come , finally she came and took order. Waited for a hour for food to come out was not impressed with meal , spinach omelette, home fries which not much on plate, and scrapple which was very oily. Its very old diner still could not figure out why it took so long when place was empty . Maybe that was a sign . Next time I will explore another place for breakfast. read more

Double D is just ok. When you pull up, it looks pretty worn out. Curtains are all askew, lights not working. Handicapped signs so bleached by sun that they were white. These issues with attention to detail always makes me consider how that translates to the kitchen. The place was completely empty. All the tables were clean and orderly. The floor looked clean. Some booths were 'repaired' with silver duct tape. Menus were plastic covered and a little sticky. The menu items are typical diner. The fried food was all Sysco. Nothing homemade going on here. In the omelet, mushrooms were canned, not fresh. Potatoes were absolutely drenched in Whirl (transfat butter flavored oil). Coffee was good. Service was glacial. Pleasant but SLOW. Old school diners have a special place in my heart and Double D is no exception. Maybe it's the liver special....just kidding, Just the thought of liver alone sends goosebumps down my arms! I stopped in the other night in a cold rainy evening with a coworker as we were both craving a nice crock of French onion soup! The broth wasn't as flavorful as the typical French onion but it was okay. There was a perfect amount of cheese and the sautéed onions did have solid flavor. I also ordered a house salad with Italian and ranch dressing on the side. Their ranch is homemade and it was delicious. This may sound simple, but I could write a solid 8-10 page paper on the variance that I've had through my years. Anyway, I digress. The ranch is great and my salad was fresh and full of crisp vegetables. The staff were very friendly, the restaurant was super clean and prices were fair. While I don't think I'd order the soup again I'd return to try some of their breakfast items. read more

On this day ordered turkey club sandwich & double d chicken sandwich which were ok, also saw a salad/soup bar but didnt choose that option. Excellent, restaurant-made cheesburger, generously sized, fresh, cooked to order on a nice fresh bun. A real diner, where counters, tables, window sills were all wiped down and clean. Friendly, welcoming waitress. A good sign that several locals came in for take out, as well as more to dine in ( I was there just before noon, so lunch people were just arriving). Came to the Double D Diner before the PIAA State Football Semifinal game on Friday December 3, 2021. The owner was friendly and approachable and the server was great. I sat at the counter and felt very taken care of. The food was great and very affordable. I had the Bacon Cheeseburger Deluxe. Lettuce, onion and tomato were fresh and the burger was cooked perfectly. The menu is pretty diverse and a great, great diner for any type of meal. I must say that I am pleasantly surprised. I knew I was in for a treat but this even went beyond my initial expectations. The atmosphere is very traditional. Bigger than your standard diner car which is good because this place was busy and the extra space was welcome. Our waitress was very nice and attentive to our needs. We ordered the special which is two pancakes, two eggs, potatoes, and your choice of meat. My wife subbed out her eggs(she doesn't eat them) without a problem. I appreciated this as well since some places refuse to do this for her. I got a chocolate milk and she got a hot chocolate. Both drinks came out immediately and we're delicious. When the food came out our eyes opened wide. Four humongous plates of food came out and we immediately knew we were in trouble. We did our best to attack the delicious plates of pancakes but soon after starting, my wife bowed out. The pancakes are very dense and we're too much for her. She instead focused her attention to her ham, grits and potatoes. She finished most of her food without a problem, although now she looks like she is going to pass out. I devoured each and every morsel of my pancakes, scrambled eggs, potatoes, and bacon. I looked up wanting more so I ended up getting a sliver of delicious ham from my wife. The final total? $18.75. I'm happy, my wife's happy, my wallet is happy. I would definitely recommend this place for breakfast and I'm eager to return and sample the rest of their cuisine. Job well done Double D's. We drove here from Embreeville for dinner based on Yelp reviews. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice the diner is. Our waitress Gina, was very friendly and helpful navigating the extensive menu and serving us. We ordered different dinners and all of the food was excellent! The crab stuffed flounder on the Senior menu was tasty, as was the turkey dinner and Italian combo that my wife had. Plenty of food in each entree. The dinners are full course meals. The portions to my surprise were beyond anything I could have imagined. I had the Double D Special with cornbeef and it was great so great I took some home My girlfriend had the southern fried eggs and she loved it. Our waiter was super nice and kept my coffee refilled at all times which is a bonus. The prices are great, and there specials can't be beat. The outside of the diner was kept clean, and the I side was decent nothing to go crazy for real di error style and feel, and clean. Does the D stand for disgusting? From the filthy floors to the atrocious service, not a chance I'd step foot in there again. Our poor server needed to leave and the girl coming in was super late so the whole ordeal was not fun to be in the middle of. Once the late server arrived (with coffees), she was reprimanded right next to me and my toddler son for bringing said coffees in. So unprofessional and the food was terrible too. Chicken fingers were undercooked (slightly pink inside and served to a toddler) and my omelet was tasteless and over cooked. We were being attacked by spotted lantern bugs the entire meal and bc of how dirty everything was, my skin was literally crawling! read more

Terrible service!! Ordered food through door dash and the dasher was not the problem at all. THE TERRIBLE STAFF WAS THE ISSUE! I called the store to see where my food was because it's been an hour and a half! The dasher was in constant communication but the restaurant kept feeding him bullshit about my order. My husband goes to the Double D for breakfast so often that he has his own chair. (Just for reference, it's the first booth by the door!) I've been here, conservatively, a least 100 times - so I can provide intimate knowledge. Double-D is an experience - the location is convenient, there's always parking, and the coffee is both quick and infinite. But what really shines is that this is the same diner it's been for 30 years - and the same diner experience. Okay, not true - they definitely didn't have free wifi 30 years ago :) If you like places like "Silver Diner" or a cheesy knock-off, this definitely isn't for you. This is for people who a) need a good, heavy breakfast or lunch, or b) have never eaten at a real diner before. I recommend it most for breakfast, and the especially the pancakes. Be sure to get some of the bacon on the side - it's practically evil how good it is. And of course, like any true diner, there are pies - pies everywhere. Have a slice! read more

The place is better on the inside then it looks on the outside. I stopped for a quick lunch while working in the area. I arrived shortly after 1pm. The place had about 3 tables filled, but I still waited over 5 minutes to be greeted. When I finally got a menu, it took the server at least 10 minutes to return to take my order. I was nearly ready to walk out when she came to take the order. I ordered a lunch special of chicken salad sandwich on toast, fries, cup of soup for $7.99. The soup was quick to be served and was delicious. Again, I waited.....When the sandwich arrived it was huge. Lots of chicken salad with a huge clump of iceburg lettuce. The crust on the bread was burnt, so I did not eat it. The chicken salad was bland and very unflavorful. The fries was abundant and were fresh, hot and delicious. The server never checked back during the entire meal. I did not receive a check, but finally got up and walked to the register where she greeted me warmly and took my money. It took just ofer an hour for my quick lunch! If you are in a hurry, choose somewhere else. I would not recommend the chicken salad.
