I met a friend here for happy hour. It was my first time. I had been to the previous establishment, the Ship Inn, several times. When I first drove up, I didn't not immediately recognize it as the former Ship Inn because the traffic pattern at the intersection was different and the building looked more updated. The interior was spacious. My friend was at the bar where we sat the entire time. Since my friend was a regular, he knew the bar tender, Morgan. He vouched for her Old Fashioned which just happened to be what I had planned to order. The Old Fashioned was good. She made it with Evan Williams Bourbon. It had a good blend so that it was not too sweet, too bitter or overpowered by the bourbon. My friend ordered Garlic Parmesan wings which he seemed to enjoy. We sat talking for a couple of hours and never felt rushed. The vibe at the bar was friendly as folks came in and out for drinks. I will go back and check out the restaurant next time. read more

Went on a Saturday night and honestly had a great time. Calamari appetizer was super lightly breaded and crispy, and the green sauce (herby/creamy) was awesome! I had a pizza, which was thin-crust, had flavorful sauce, and a solid cheese-sauce ratio. I would've finished the whole thing if it wasn't for the beer flights! I had two flights and each of the beers I tried I would order again. They're named nautically which made ordering them honestly fun. Wait staff was friendly and timely, so much so that I'm already planning a return! I will say that many tables were empty so it was a bit easier to serve us, but I hope in the future VK gets more business. Good people, good food, great beer. read more

Weekend afternoon at the bar, been here a few times now. Ambiance: Confusing decor, not sure what they are trying to be, classic , modern, etc., strange bar placement ... Seating: Sat at the bar; tables are also available in the dining section. Service: Friendly and attentive most of the time. I don't like when bartenders have to serve tables. Crowd: middle-aged and older. Drinks: Don't like any of the beers; mixed drinks use pre-mix. Food: Was ok for bar food, hot fries, good pizzas. Restrooms: Clean. Parking: Plenty of parking. I've been here twice in the last few months and had a good visit each time. The beer is solid (not the best craft beer in the area, but good enough). The food and the music were the stars! I really liked the pork nachos which are served individually topped. It's a surprisingly tasty and less messy way to eat nachos. They are on the happy hour menu as well and they have a Saturday early afternoon happy hour which I always appreciate!. We came the first time for the live music. Well service was friendly and the chatty bartender knew her beers. That's a plus. Beer was good but not great. Pros: happy hours on Friday and Saturday. That's not common at all. Very Open bunch of tables and same cheap seating. No cozy booths that you'd expect Food. Only had the pork nachos. Nice size plate with only 9 square flat but delicate nachos. Good for happy hour app but if it's the same size for other times it is a bit small Taste. Well the pork was tender and seemed nicely seasoned. The reason I said seemed is because it was absolutely drowning in some kind is herbed sauce. I mean swimming in it. So way overloaded it was dripping wet and such a mess we needed a second set of napkins. Too much for hand food. Tasted bland as well. Supposedly was crème fraiche Would have been an interesting sour cream replacement if it was not so slightly seasoned it did not add a thing except more wetness than my dogs' slobber (and less tasty) they also were supposed to have a cheese sauce that was not noticeable at all in contrast to the oodles of white sweat sauce. I assume the recipe said "drizzle" the sauce on and the chef thought it said "drench". It would probably save the pace hundreds of dollars in sauce per month by not using such a huge amount. The pizza was great, the stake sandwich is ok. The atmosphere is wonderful. The outside patio was also a great time.

Great spot for a yummy lunch or dinner! The pizzas were all delicious and a good size to split or take home leftovers. There was a bar on the other side of the place that we went to after dinner which was fun. There is plenty of room for larger parties / families and a wide range of delicious options on the menu - I'd recommend for a family / groups. I have had lunch here with friends quite a few times. Service is always friendly, quick and attentive. I've enjoyed nearly everything I've ordered (a few things were not bad, but merely "OK"). In addition to lunch entrees, we've had appetizers and deserts which are also quite good. The dining room is clean and welcoming. Pros: the interior revisions are beautiful - kudos for design/architecture; very friendly and quick service, wide ranging, mid-tier menu with a little something for everyone? Beer selection embraces other brands... Cons: the 2 cocktails we ordered were simply too sweet (one was a sour and the other an old fashioned) for our taste. @ $14 a pop, wasn't willing to "go there" again. IMHO - more attention to detail before i'd reconsider on that front. Didn't try the beer as the only "house beers" were IPA's at this point. So i'm torn - will likely try it again, sans craft cocktails, to see if the food makes up for the whiff on that front. read more

My wife and I have eaten here about 6 or more times over the last year or so. Each time the food seems better than the last. My favorite is the Prime Rib cheesesteak it is delicious. Also we've had the Stromboli, chicken and the Black and Blue burger. Everything has been great. The beer is fantastic also. The service is always good. We love trying new breweries especially with food. We had a reservation as we were a party of 7. The building is historical so the inside is really chopped up with small and large rooms. We were put in the front room with two other parties eventually. I asked if we could go to the larger brighter room with lots of folks and was told no and we would have other parties. The other two tables had the same server but we had our own. She must have had tables in other rooms because she was very much absent. Husband asked for onion rings in place of his fries and he never got them. No one even came near our table to ask for them the third time. Waited till end of meal for ketchup and never was asked if we wanted another drink. The food was pretty good. Appetizers were great. Bruschetta with burratta, soft pretzel and weird pieces of boneless chicken wings. The bread for the cheesesteaks was delicious! Beers are good and I really liked the amber. I am a big foodie and when I saw that the ship inn, where I had fond memories of working as a server, was gone I had to check it out. Walking in was a breath of fresh air! The staff was welcoming and the beer brewed by VK was refreshing! I ordered the buffalo wings & they gave us soo many it was perfect for sharing, cooked well done and delicious with a little kick, we also had the cheesesteak, which was perfect for 2! It was made with caramelized onions and mushrooms, which is my favorite soo delicious. Served on a toasted sesame seed bun and the quality of the beef was superb and tasty, I loved it! It was the best cheesesteak I've had in a long time I got the cheese sauce on the side and it was perfect for dipping the fresh Crispy Fries that are served with all the sandwiches, for dessert The smoky Manhattan was perfect! Wow - what an improvement over the previous Ship Inn!! The same location and same building but the vibe has turned from an old stuffy boring place where blue haired grand mothers go to a vibrant cool brew pub!! During my first visit, the restaurant and bar were packed so we had a few drinks by the bar while we waited 30 minutes for a table. Bar tenders and wait staff were very friendly and attentive. The margarita with salt foam was great and also had a very nice Manhattan. Food was good - my wife had a burger and I had the mussels. Only issue is that their license has not been finalized yet for their own beers so they are currently serving canned beers. Once they start selling their own brews this will definitely be a place I will visit on a regular basis! read more

Today we visited the brewery while in the area. From the minute we walked in I thought "this is an adorable space!" We were quickly welcomed by the bartender and ordered 2 flights. All of the beers were delicious! We got the pretzel and it was phenomenal... the homemade mustard was to die for. The owner/brewer chatted with my husband and was lovely. The bartender was very kind, chatty, and welcoming. Often times we find if you're not a regular you are not as welcomed, but not here! The food is exceeds expectations. From the very first bite, you can tell everything is made in house - from scratch. Nothing is frozen, premade. The wedge salad was a perfect balance of flavors, fresh blue cheese and hand made dressing - bacon bits. The mushroom ravioli does not disappoint. A great spot in Exton (and a HUGE improvement over the restaurant that used to be here). They did not have a hostess the night we were there but our waitress seated us after a little bit of an awkward wait. Staff was friendly and service was good otherwise. I had the VK Orange Shandy as my drink, it was great. For my entree, I had the chicken parmigiana which was fantastic. It was a huge portion, I ended up taking half home for lunch the next day. The pasta they use seems to be very good quality. The peanut butter cheesecake was also great. Prices are reasonable. Would definitely recommend checking this place out. read more

Visited Saturday 10/26 We always try different restaurants in our area but VK won't be a spot we will try again. We were quickly seated by the hostess in the large brightly lit room close to the pizza oven. It took a server 5-10mins to recognize us before coming over to our table to take our drink order. Of course by the time they came over we had also decided on an appetizer. We decided to try the whipped ricotta w/ honey and it was terrible. The ricotta had a sweet cold cannoli cream like taste and texture and the bread was as hard as a rock after being toasted. They dropped off my Girlfriends drink only for it to be wine and not the cocktail she ordered. Too add in a side note - Another new table was sat behind us while we ate our appetizer only for them to get up and leave after a server didnt come to their table. I ordered the damn good chicken and my girlfriend enjoyed the eggplant parm. Our sandwiches were largely consumed by a grossly amount of melted cheese on the top and a minimal amount of French fries on the side. Our thoughts: We both thought it was odd to have multiple servers during our meal and not one person. The lights in the main room were way too bright to enjoy dinner. All restaurant we've dined at have dimmed the lights for dinner service. The menu, music and restaurant theme do not match each other. We think it's still the same color theme as the old inn before VK took over. read more

Stopped in for a late lunch this week with a friend and had a nice first experience. We were seated in the back/newer area which had a lot of natural light pouring through the windows looking over the outside dining area which is sheltered from Ship Road traffic with tall arbor vitae. I ordered the crab cake sandwich. This came on a brioche bun with a side of fries. The crab cake was full of lump crab, no filler but I would have liked a more diminutive and even softer bun. The delicate cake started to ooze out the edges. The cake itself was flavorful with a bit of a bite from a hint of horseradish in the mustard sauce. It was MPed at $20. My dining partner was in the mood for steak but the rib eye special was $45 with no indication of the size of the steak. (We had to ask for the price of this as well). So she ordered the prime rib cheese steak which was quite generous in size and came on a lovely seeded roll. Half was boxed up to take game and was served with a generous portion of fries. Ice tea was $3 with no offer of a refill. Service was very good - attentive without rushing. The entrance is handicapped accessible with a long somewhat narrow ramp but with a very comfortable pitch for a wheelchair user. Handicapped parking spaces are not ideally located in the lot and parking would be challenging during busy hours. read more

The downside here is the price. I think whoever is doing the marketing has gotten ahead of themselves. This place is no better than PJs but they charge 30% more. Nice place. Stopped in with the family. We sat in the restaurant area and were hoping to hear the live music from the bar area and couldn't unfortunately. They kept piping in the restaurant music. It would be awesome if they could have the live music piped through the whole restaurant. We would have stayed longer. Overall, great place. The server was awesome and the food was excellent.
