In the last few weeks I've hiked trails near Downingtown twice. After my first hike, I came across the Station Taproom as a place where I hoped to get a beer (or two) while I was waiting for the train back home. After my second hike no question that I wanted to come back here for another visit. Station Taproom is an attractive and comfortable pub with what I found to be an unexpected menu. Many dishes had an Asian influence, but with the additional plus of showcasing some exciting combinations of ingredients. VEGAN BANH MI ::: I had this on my first visit. The sandwich was made with plant-based meatballs, along with carrots, cucumber, plus much more in the mix. (I detected a note of hoisin in the mix, though not mentioned in the menu). "Meatballs" were definitely unexpected in a banh mi. WONTON NACHOS ::: On my second visit to the Taproom, which was last week, I had "wonton nachos". As per the menu, some of the ingredients were "hoisin-berry BBQ pork" as well as mozzarella and pepper jack, and wonton chips. Presentation was important, and I could see that they had spent extra time in plating the dish. A finishing touch was the "micro cilantro" that was delicately sprinkled over the top. I love cilantro, but had never seen it in "micro" form. It was very fresh, wondering now whether they grew it themselves. BEERS ::: On both my visits, "Rachel" made excellent recommendations for hazy IPA's. Great experiences both times. read more

First time dining, as the last time about a year ago, it was packed and we left to dine elsewhere. The beer list was a little disappointing for a taphouse, but the cocktails were outstanding! Food was typical fare and tasty. Art pieces on the wall made for a welcoming atmosphere. read more

Stopped by for dinner and a beer in the Bottle Room, which shares its kitchen with Station Taproom (and doesn't seem to have its own page). We made the trek up from Wilmington after seeing that the Bottle Room's tap list included a unique beer from a Knoxville brewery that we'd loved at a beer fest but had never found in our area since (Xul's PBJ Mixtape sour beer, a delicious and mind-blowing sour that somehow genuinely tastes like peanut butter, grape jelly, and white bread!). Props to Bottle Room for sourcing from both local microbreweries, but also from other delicious breweries around the country! Since our goal was beer, we hadn't put much thought into the food, so we were very nicely surprised that every bite was delicious, and we're already scheming which of our PA friends might want to meet us there in the future. We started with their tuna tostada special --- won ton chips with tuna poke, edamame, avocado, and some sort of wasabi dressing. This was challenging to eat, but absolutely worth the mess. Husband ordered their smash burger with truffle fries, which was a very solid and flavorful burger, and the truffle fries had excellent texture and flavor. I opted for their Ratatouille special, which offered the usual vegetable medley served over zucchini bread (a unique touch!) with burrata. The zucchini bread was a little bit sweet and a little soft, but the overall flavors came together nicely. We were happy to learn they offer crowlers as well, so you can take your favorite beers to go! read more

Wanted to head out on a Friday night and didn't want to repeat any of our regular joints. Found this place which was a 30 min drive and boy, it didn't disappoint. server Kate was great. This gastropub definitely leans towards the pub in a big way, but that is part of the charm. Friendly staff enjoys engaging with customers. Food is top of the spectrum for the style. Kind of an Asian fusion menu, with curries and bowls available as vegetarian or with meats, as well as burgers and sandwiches. Fries are real, flavorful and a highlight. Finally the tap selection is tremendous with a mix of local and quality craft selections. Don't be surprised to see some hard to find selections on the chalkboard. read more

Really cute inside and small. Nice, long bar. Right across from the train station in Downingtown. The parking lot is small but there's a decent amount of street parking usually. I just came in for the first time in probably 8 years and had a pretty good brunch with girlfriends. My friends both had the Carolina pulled pork sandwich and they both seemed to enjoy it. I recommended the North Carolina BBQ sauce, so I'm glad they both liked that. I had the brunch special which was pineapple French toast. This dish was really good! The girls had the mimosa flights and seemed to both really enjoy that. I had a peach sunrise and that was very tasty! Our servers name was Erica and she was excellent. We loved her. Glad we came in. I know I'll return in the future. And my friends, who had never been before will likely both return also! read more

If you are in Downingtown and aiming towards a friendly neighborhood pub atmosphere with all the necessary cozy requirements look no further. Since moving out of Downingtown, this place is always a must when I return to visit family. The beer rotation is always fresh and the cocktails are exactly what you need in any circumstance. They used to offer a lot more vegan items but last time I was there I did not see as much. It would be awesome to see some of their returns, but the food is amazing nonetheless. read more

The best smash burger I have ever had the pleasure of eating is served at Station Taproom! The table service staff is excellent. The food is uniformly great. The beer and drink menu is extensive and reasonably priced. This is an amazing restaurant right across the street from the train station. Something about the high-quality burger meat, the Cooper Sharp cheddar cheese, their burger seasonings, the two toppings (I did not get onions!), their bacon onion jam AND their porcini mushroom aioli opened a portal in my taste buds and my mind that put Station Taproom at the top of my personal Best Burger list. This was the first time we went there. The service was great and the atmosphere very good. It is a very inviting and friendly place. The food was beyond salty. It was to the point that we actually could not finish our meals. When I got home I felt sick. Actually I feel bad saying it because I enjoyed the vibe there but the cooks seriously need to cut way back on the salt. It was way over the top. People can add, but you can not take away when it comes to spice. You may want to revisit the corked cold water carafe. the lid looked black on the bottom. Come hungry folks, because you will not eat for the rest of the day. Lets see what can you order on the menu that will satisfy anyone's crave? All of it basically, you CAN NOT go wrong with your decision. There is no strategy to this, the outcome will still be the same... AMAZING. I tell you what, even their breakfast cocktails are also on point. The Libation Gods would definitely approve with Station Taproom's impressive selections, a perfect compliment to any meal. The Brunch line up: * Brisket Biscuit ~ Just as you see it, a biscuit that has pieces of brisket baked in it, served with whipped duck fat. * Hush Puppies ~ A must order! This is made with bacon, jalapenos, cooper sharp mixed all up in that puppy, with a whiskey maple syrup for your dipping pleasure. * Breakfast Poutine ~ A breakfast bowl for the champion in you ! Scrambled eggs with home fries, smoked cheddar, with brisket added to this awesome bowl. * Grilled Brussels Sprouts ~ Just order it, I am telling you as a friend .. get it. A fried risotto cake that has that perfectly placed poached egg with a hollandaise sauce that will have you screaming. I pushed that proverbial envelope when I added brisket to it. I had a real Thelma and Louise moment with my first bite basically. * Eggs Benedict ~ Another perfectly poached egg with a hollandaise that was all lathered up over an English muffin. Pro-tip for everyone, substitute the ham, for the brisket. You're welcome. * The Cookie ~ After enjoying our feast one needs to be rewarded. A Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip Cookie. Semi cold treat that was rich, and decadent that will leave you fully satisfied. When they say " What do you think you deserve a cookie? " This is where you actually deserve a cookie. Accommodation at its best! Don't be so irritated if you think the service is slow. Have you seen this spot on the weekends? Blown out! They are doing there best to make sure everyone is happy, so I will never fault you on a jam packed restaurant. If you were empty, that's a different story. Came here on our way from Philly because the reviews sounded good. They don't have a full menu during certain hours so we got wings and fries. They were ok. Not great. We had two orders of wings and shared an order of fries with two beers it was about fifty bucks. The service was just ok. Maybe go when they have there full menu and not during turnover. Every time the door gets opened it gets cold depending on where you are sitting. (I know that's lots of places in the winter) but lots of places try to do something about it. read more

Visiting my folks in sleepy Downingtown and kept my expectations low. This pub is such a gem! I was wary ordering the Thai shrimp curry knowing this is a pub but our server Will insisted. We were not disappointed. Having lived in Southeast Asia and worked in Thailand, I know my curry and this was good. The service is also genuine and very down to earth. Look for Will! I ordered a Pilsner but did not really like after one sip, I changed my order to the Allagash White I usually get and Wil obliged. He did not charge me twice. Such a cool experience. read more

Local customer, I had the fried chicken special. It was way overcooked, the skin was dark brown, burnt and hard; the inside of course was dried out. The chicken looked like it sat under a heat lamp or hot bin for way too long. No wonder it was ready so quickly. One would think the special is going to be something special, this was not. If dining in, I would have returned it, but didn't see it until I arrived at my picnic location, which is also when I discovered that there were no napkins or utensils. Call me the 'canary in the coal mine' but since COVID and things opening back up I have been anxious to get back to 'fresh off the grill' food from Station Taproom- unfortunately they are rusty. Fries and the Tenderloin sandwich have consistently been overdone compared to the earlier days. It's simple to remedy, but the craftsmanship seems to be waning here. PLEASE FIX!
