The bread tasted like it was from Orowheat that you find in grocery stores, they can't replace salmon with anything vegetarian so you're paying $17 for a shitty toast that tastes like it was made by a 5 yr old kid. My daughter treated me to Taverna for my birthday. It was very good. Appetizers was amazing. I am not an Italian foodie but I would give it a thumbs up. I cannot say too much about the Entrée. Who goes to an Italian restaurant to eat steak, I do. I had the special. The plate looked amazing but when I dug into the steak it was dry and overcooked. I order it medium rare. I like to see blood. I would say it was medium well, almost cooked. My son in law had a steak as well. He sent his back and the replacement was entirely much better. So, I would say it was good. Our waitress was amazing. I apologize for not catching her name. She was very apologetic and did everything she could to ensure we had a great time. We spent two hours there. Catching up with family. Drinks were great! I don't drink but there were no complaints. They even allowed us to taste before ordering the full glass. Ambiance was quaint. The lighting on our side kept flickering. It was dim and cozy. It is small so if you take a large party make sure to call it in ahead of time. My husband on the other hand noticed something he didn't like. A waiter dropped a half eaten pickle which was never picked up. It was a little hazardous since everyone kept stepping on it. My husband got a napkin and picked up after an hour of it being on the floor where everyone was walking. On another note: if you are looking for quaint and ambiance, good Italian food this would be a great place. Oh, by the way, the waitress upon boxing my left overs to take home, she ensured that my steak was redone and that my friends is great service. Did not expect a replacement. Wish I took photos. The food here is absolutely delicious! Portion size is a little small but taste 100% makes up for it. I had never been before but I'm glad to have gone and plan to go back. To start, we had the Focaccia, which we devoured in minutes! I got the Paglia E Fieno which was really creamy while my friend got the gnocchi - I loved the sauce but the gnocchi itself was more chewy than I would have preferred. Service we a little slow but the staff were all friendly. Also, it had a bubbly vibe with everyone having drinks and just vibing. I think it makes a perfect first stop for a long evening out either for just drinks or drinks and food. I'll definitely be back. read more

FOOD ALLERGY CAUTION/NEGLIGENCE: If a person has allergies like me I recommend steering clear from this restaurant. I had a horrible experience after notifying the waiter of my severe allergy. (The salad I ordered came with a peanut sauce which I switched for a vinaigrette. I was assured "allergy protocol" is followed.) I was served and within 5 minutes my throat started swelling. The general manager was informed by the waiter. The waiter and GM were apologetic (which I appreciated) but it did not remedy my problem. I had to leave with my friend, find an Uber to a pharmacy that was open 24/7 hours (thank GOD for CVS and Uber), and miss our next planned activity (major bummer!). However, the dish was plated beautifully, and the restaurant took care of my bill. read more

I haven't been to this spot in years! Their patio is just gorgeous and feels like something out of Europe since it's right on the sidewalk with a cute cover. I won't lie that the food is not my favorite Italian but it's pretty damn good. The bolognese was my favorite of the ones I tried! Flavorful and saucy. The meatballs needed for seasoning but we're still delicious with the sourdough bread. Parking is definitely not ideal in this area but we were already down here so it was an easy walk. I have been to both the downtown and the domain locations of Taverna, and they are like going to extremely different restaurants. If you go to the downtown location, expect it to be louder, much younger crowd all having their morning mimosas, and it turns into a pretty vivacious bar at night. The first time I walked in actually there was a high profile public figure there which was pretty cool for my first night out in Austin. The location at the domain is much more laid back, I would go with my girlfriends to the downtown location, but with my mom and sister to the domain location. Both are decently fancy and you may be able to get away with leggings but definitely not much more dressed down than that. The domain location is also much quieter, but I still wouldn't call it quiet. The food is very average, I always love to get over easy eggs, bacon and potatoes and I was never disappointed with my meal. They also have very instagram worthy presentations of food, everything looks super fancy on the plate, especially the avocado toast. I would recommend coming to Taverna, the only complaints I really have is that it's a bit overpriced in my opinion, and the service isn't especially fast, but also not so slow where I want to go someplace else. I would 100% make sure you always have a reservation before going, otherwise wait times will be much longer if that's even an option. I am a sucker for a good brunch, and would say to give it a stop in!! Their drinks are super cute, and its a great ambiance to be around friends. At the domain there's lots to do while waiting, or you can go shopping after, and downtown Austin speaks for itself in the same capacity. Loved coming here when I lived in Austin!! read more

We stopped here unexpectedly while looking for a place in the pouring rain. It had to be something my daughter would eat. Pizza and pasta sounded perfect. This was a stop for convenience and we were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed our time here. We were greeted with enthusiasm and seated promptly as it was during the week and there weren't many people out at this time (especially because of the rain). Our waitress was very nice and patient as we tried to get our daughter situated (this is always something I appreciate). My husband and I ordered the margherita pizza which was brick oven style (my favorite). I didn't see a kid's menu, so we got the spaghetti pomodoro for my daughter and were able to substitute for rigatoni no problem since it is easier for her to eat. We were able to try some and the sauce was very good. It was thick and creamy, but thin enough to still be saucy. She ate a ton, and we took the rest back to our hotel. For dessert, we ordered the passion fruit creme brulee. It was unique and very good. It was tart in all the right places and a great way to end the meal. The ambiance was nice too. Hadn't been to Taverna in years but came for dinner before a concert at ACL live and glad I did! Still as delicious as I remembered and the interior and bar has a great set up. Unfortunately, this experience at Taverna was not the best for us. The pizza was delicious but we also tried the Gnocchi Rustici (brisket gnocchi). This dish was highly recommended by our server so we gave it a try! The Gnocchi Rustici was very disappointing. The brisket tasted and looked like Campbell's beef stew. I was not impressed and would not be surprised if that's what they used to make the gnocchi (which is a bummer) and the gnocchi was very soft and gummy like so I don't think they were cooked correctly. Overall, the brunches have been good and the pizzas have been pretty good! I hope next time we have a better experience! I will be back and give them another shot. This was my favorite restaurant. I made a reservation for my birthday. We came at 8pm. My husband and best friend went to the table while I went to use the restroom. It was prom. I gave several compliments to the sweet girls in their dresses. I never ran into a server or manager. Just walked back to my table. That day was my 48th birthday celebration and we had gone indoor skydiving. Then went to my condo to get ready for dinner. I had a glass of wine while getting ready. Upon getting back to the table I said hello to our server and asked that my husband choose a wine. At this point he told me his manager "heard me slurring" and so did he. And that he could not serve me. I was obviously confused. I was not intoxicated at all! I expected that I had new invisilign. So maybe they thought that was my slurring? I asked to see the manager that "heard me slurring" and she came to the table. I had never seen her. Her name was Samantha. The server said his name was Ryan. Because I was sober, I tried to reason that maybe they had maybe mistaken me for someone else or misunderstood my speech with my new mouth pieces. I can't stress how humiliating that was. I was mortified. I even went so far to let them know I lived close and we took a Lyft. Even though I was not drunk or acting drunk. I have no other words. Just humiliated. I would like to add (as per my friends reminder) I have a stutter it didn't occur to me in the moment as I was just acting like a proper lady. But I do suffer from a stutter. It's like being in any restaurant in Italy where you can close your eyes and point to anything on the menu and you know it's going to be great - that's Taverna. Start with an antipasti of Carpaccio di Manzo made of prime beef, mustard, arugula and parmigiano then close your eyes for your main dish and you may land on the Paglia E Fieno with tagliolini, chicken, wild rice and truffle sauce, or the Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese pasta with three braised meats in tomato sauce with rosemary or my personal favorite, the Bronzino Al Forno the most exquisitely prepared Mediterranean sea bass in a presentation that begs to be photographed and posted (I did). The expertly prepared dishes are worth putting up with a server staff that is a little slow getting to you but very amicable and friendly. They could also turn the music down just a tad. Quick and easy lunch in downtown Austin. Service is impeccable, beautiful outdoor covered patio with a slight breeze in the air, and great food. Complementary bread with a beautiful tangy robust Pesto sauce for dipping. The bread is soft and fluffy what they like crispy crust. I ordered the lentil tomato-based soup and it was super yummy very similar to a minestrone with a crispy crust wafer with edible flowers. The soup is very typical of a minestrone solid flavor solid taste. Love the eggplant dish because for those that are vegetarian very similar to a meat lasagna. The egg plant is layered and I love the layered texture with the strong cheese crust. The side dish is a good pasta similar to a butter white wine with mushrooms chops asparagus and mint on the top. All for under $16.00. The chicken pasta is an amazing dish with a very strong garlic black truffle flavor. It comes in strong at the end of the pallet which I love plus the garlic. Been here a few times in the Baci room and the vibes are great but service is always slow. I tried to book my birthday dinner and they gave me a hard time about having a group of 25 people. They said we had to sit at separate tables and have two separate checks. Once we arrived the waitress said we can combine the tables and every can do separate checks, kinda confusing.. Came in here last Wednesday (8/16) for my friend's birthday. We sat at the bar, & legit probs scared the bartender with how ravenously hangry we were. He (male bartender, dk his name) was super friendly & courteous, and had no problem when we asked to put in a food order right away. Two of us (separately) ordered the Paglia E Fieno, and the birthday girl ordered the kale salad entree. All 3 of us tried each others' dish, & we all easily agreed that the kale salad was the homerun group fav! The rotisserie chicken, cabbage, & peanut dressing make their kale salad super savory & hella addicting! I ordered my Paglia E Fieno dish substituting for GF pasta (a $2.50 upcharge), and was pleasantly surprised to thoroughly have enjoyed the rice-based, ziti pasta (!!). The chicken was cooked well - very juicy y tender. i loved how the chicken tasted coupled with the wild mushrooms + truffle sauce in this dish! While my two gfs each first got a glass of vino, I started out with the Lavender Refresher cocktail (substituted Tito's for Grey Goose, to keep it GF) and loved its subtle creaminess, crisp + fresh as well. From there, a few more of our friends showed up, and we got a few rounds of their delicious palomas. While the (male) bartender was very friendly & helpful with his personal recommendations, we waited around quite a bit for more than several times...but they weren't busy / most of the time we were the only patrons in there, so i'm not sure if the bartender was just having an off night or what. Austin in general was an outstanding foodie town, but Taverna exceeded all of our expectations. After a long day at the National Bridge Tournament, our group of 5 headed down the block to Taverna. The menu is so enticing, we honestly could have ordered everything on the menu but that would have been.... uh? a little over the top. Well we still did our share of eating. Okay I get it. Why would someone to go an Italian restaurant and order a burger? In my defense, a burger did sound good and I wasn't feeling pasta or salad for dinner. I came with my wife and a bunch of friends as we flew in for the weekend to visit a couple in Georgetown. We made reservations here for a party of 8. We sat near the service ledge on a long table. Firstly, be careful with the friction (or lack of) with the chair legs and the floor. I joked that they marinate the floor with olive oil like all nice Italian restaurants. It took minimal effort and it felt like the chair would slide a feet or two. If we got up too fast, the chair would have gotten a speeding ticket. The cacio e Pepe was great! The pasta is cooked and then added to the giant cheese wheel and mixed with pepper and more cheese. The flavor was spot on the portion enough. The burger on the other hand...was terrible. I get it though. No one orders burgers at Italian restaurants let alone actually have it on the menu. But it tasted like they completely forgot to salt anything on the burger. The meat (cooked medium to medium rare) was this patty of sadness. Again no flavor. The texture was burger but the taste was sadness. My friend got the same and we were incredibly disappointed. However, the fries were great! Highly recommend that. Lastly, the service was not the best. My wife orders the cacio e Pepe at the same time as everyone and got her food when everyone had eaten no less than half of their food. It can't take that long right? Just cook the pasta and bring out the cheese wheel. They seemed busy I think but it was often difficult to get a hold of our waitress. read more
