Really caught between three and four stars because the food was good, and they really were doing great in accommodating gluten-free requests, including gluten-free focaccia bread for an appetizer. I got a stone fruit martini and it was excellent. However, it was 4 PM on a Sunday and I guess I was unaware of this but brunch goes well into the 4 o'clock hour to nearly 5 PM and they had a DJ in there and it was just kind of like a Tejano club. Not to sound like a super lame Karen, I love to turn up, get lit and listen to music, but it was the day after New Year's Eve, and I was just like oh my god, this is exhausting, and I was just looking for a classy place to eat in Italian food to ring in the new year. They were playing Daddy Yankee from 2005. In fact, I think if they would've been playing more modern club hits, it would've been more acceptable, but the music give it such a mixed vibe. I would say if you want this to be a classier ambience, go after 5 PM (or go somewhere else entirely). The patio is really cute and the interior was really cute too and everyone was in really good spirits. The service was really friendly and you could tell it was a tight knit place. Definitely not the Lombardy's concept I remember from a prior life in Dallas. Restaurants have only three main criteria for success - food, service, atmosphere, and the latter isn't even necessary if the first two are top notch. Lovely interior at Taverna did not compensate for the other critical criteria. The menu featured diverse selections of food and cocktails. Our food came soon enough. The foccacia was lackluster toasted pizza dough that was closer to a cracker than bread. The olive oil and balsamic vinegar dipping sauce for the appetizer was presented in a very "hard-to-reach" narrow bowl. Poor serving idea. The chopped salad was overdressed with more mashed gorgonzola than "vinaigrette". Too salty and not at all refreshing on a hot summer night. My dining partner's lobster ravioli special looked better. Seemed overstaffed as 5 or 6 twenty-something male waiters were enjoying good conversation by the bar, paying little attention to their patrons. And, not sure why two women were needed at the front entrance. I don't like to have to ask for my waiter, but had to request that someone get his attention 3 times over the course of an hour. He wasn't busy. Rhetorical ? How difficult is it for an Italian trattoria to serve good tasting quality food, let alone exceptional? Waitstaff on the other hand, in the age of Post-Covid is every eatery's challenge. Taverna missed on all necessary marks for success. He ordered the Gnocchi Rustici with short rib ragù. I didn't realize that meant it came with plastic baked in. YES--PLASTIC. My husband gagged, as he began to PULL PLASTIC FROM HIS THROAT. Of course, prepping the food isn't on the waiter per say, but the restaurant does have an obligation to work as a team and take care of each others mistakes. But when we told the waiter the situation he dismissed the situations just saying "sorry about that". He just quietly took the plate off the bill, acting like nothing had happened. He didn't even ask if my husband was okay... Overpriced pasta with a side of plastic for 16 bucks???? Not only does that sound like a rip off, it sounds like a death sentence. It sickens me to think about how much PLASTIC he probably had already eaten. Please, dont eat here. What a waste of time, money and a slap in the face of disrespect. We only do brunch outside on the patio here and honestly, after this last experience, we probably won't even be back to the patio. It's entirely too loud to enjoy a meal inside. At one point when I was inside using the bathroom, they were blasting a clubby version of Baby Shark? No one wants to here that while trying to sip a mimosa (not that the mimosa's are anything to write home about. I get that $3 is incredibly cheap, but honestly I would rather pay more for a mimosa that isn't half water). We were waiting a long time for our food. We asked the waiter when we should expect it after waiting a half hour. About 10 minutes later the sides of bacon came out alone, and ice cold. We asked to get the bacon warmed up. When our entrees finally came out they were also ice cold. Literally, colder than room temperature. All of our poached eggs felt like they had come out of the fridge. A friend was given the wrong omelet twice before the third finally came out correct. Great location, but location alone doesn't fill my empty stomach. read more

I ordered the Lovesong with Vodka, hibiscus lemongrass honey and lemon. This was very pretty but as for taste, just OK. My husband had a beer. For eats we had the Charred Octopus with Fingerling Potatoes, Chorizo and salsa verde and the Bianca Pizza with Prosciutto, arugula, mozzarella and shaved Parmesan. Both were delicious. If you care at all about practicing safe COVID precautions, then do not come here. Came by here this past Sunday and it was packed...inside and out. They are seating at full capacity, no social distancing measures in place at all. Bar seats were full. Saw some staff wearing masks below their nose (it's been a year now...how can someone not understand how this works?). It makes me sad to see this. Many restaurants are going above and beyond to open safely. When places like this slip through and are doing absolutely nothing to keep others safe, it's maddening. I understand it's been a horrible year for businesses, but we all need to do our part. Burrata was more like a ball of cream cheese, caprese salad had no salt or balsamic in it so it was just all bland, avocado toast was a joke (It was a slice of like Dave Killer's bread or something, cut into quarters, slopped with sloppy guac and pale farmed salmon strips, horribly cut onions, rotten spring mix and dried half capers on the side). Veggie omelette was offensively thick, torn in half and folded and tasted like powdered eggs filled with more spinach than Popeye would be able to stomach PLUS the breakfast potatoes were flavourless and mega greasy. The food was VERY GOOD. Our server was god awful. We ordered a gluten free pizza for my toddler & I (major allergy- I'd be in ER), and a flour pizza was delivered. Our server never checked on us so I had to flag another down to ask about it. They sent it back, and then my other food arrives and its a completely different pasta. He had even repeated what we had asked for, and written it down so I don't know why he couldn't get these right. Of course he was nowhere to be found so we flagged down another server and it too had to be sent back and I had to wait again for another 20 minutes. He didn't refill our drinks. I had to ask another server to do so and ask them for straws. He was horrid. When he majorly screwed up everything, he should've immediately come to the table but didn't and what looked like a kitchen manager came over to take my plate and put in the right meal. He came towards the end of the meal and he knew we were upset and only then we got refilled water, and actually attended to. We were over 40min longer on dinner because of all the mess ups and my poor toddler was exhausted. Now it's the next day and we realized he also didn't give us our credit card back! It wasn't in the checkbook when we signed for it, so now we had to go all the way back to the restaurant to get it. This guy SUCKED! He was a tall blonde with longer haircut. Ask for a new server if you get him! The other servers were amazing and so on it for us. If I hadn't asked about the items being gluten free, I could've been extremely sick for the week. read more

omg, girl. Let! Me! Tell! You! I just pulled a hair out of a blackberry. A BLACKBERRY! How did that even happen?! I'm talking wrapped around the blackberry like it's a decorated Christmas tree. Kinda when you're in an abusive relationship and you think it's your fault for asking for the bare minimum, like too nice and people pleasing. This has always been our "go to" Sunday brunch spot for MANY years. Today, we could not get a reservation so we arrived at 12:30pm, knowing we would have a wait. Fortunately the five of us were able to score a high top in the lounge where we had the option to eat. After our first successful round of drinks, we ordered brunch. Our lunch arrived in a reasonable amount of time (due to the restaurant's full house) with the exception of one friend who ordered the salmon with a side salad. His salad arrived 5 minutes after the rest of our meals. When he inquired about his salmon, the server informed him it takes a long time to prepare. As the rest of the table finished our brunch, my friend approached a manager and inquired about his meal. The manager actually questioned that the order had been placed at the same time. Once the entire table assured him that everyone ordered at the same time, the manager left for the kitchen. Within one or so minutes, he returned with a piece of salmon on a plate. Not only had the kitchen flash fried the salmon to expedite it, it was still raw inside. After spending most of 2020 dreaming of going to brunch, we don't take these times for granted. I've only been here for brunch on the weekend, so I can only speak for breakfasty food here. But as far as the standard two egg, protein, and potato plate goes, Taverna makes a solid rendition. The sausages are link style, which I prefer over patties, and are thicker than most other places' links. They're well seasoned, not overly salted, and tender throughout. The hash brown potatoes were similarly delicious but greasy enough that I left some on my plate. If I wasn't on a health kick right now I would have taken them down though. As for the restaurant itself, I liked how roomy and open the main dining area felt. There was a decent sized bar to the right and an outdoor dining area under a covered patio at the entrance.
