Dimly lit and very romantic vibes in here! Food is delicious and the service was super quick after we were finally seated. I want to come back again with friends. This is the type of big portion restaurant that is great for chatting and drinking.

Tango Sur in the bottom of a residential building...this place has some great steaks they serve. A little quaint setting place..even has some live music at night....that just makes the place a great relaxing place to kick back and enjoy a conversation with someone. Wait staff was very attentive in this night.

First outing of 2026 and had a delicious meal at this Argentinean steakhouse!! We made a reservation but no one asked for it when we arrived and we were just sat. Despite the dimly lit, romantic mood they try to set, the space is simply too small and loud/noisy with convo! Tables are very close together and we were against a brick wall at a small table, which made it a little hard to move and for all our plates to fit comfortably. I was also worried about the open flame candle. The place is better for a nice dinner with friends or casual date, in my opinion. They start you off with bread and butter, and you can BYOB. We went with some apps and entrees. The meats themselves were amazing!! Loved the sweet beef empanada, rich with juicy flavors. The corn (&cheese) one was okay--piping hot inside! For the Carnes Argentinas we got, loved the El Filet and Vacio, cooked medium rare. Just a reminder that they will charge $10 if you want to share/split the any entree with others, salad included! Would skip the Tortilla de Papa --tasted kinda just like a large pan of seasoned potatoes, and it is HUGE. Left completely stuffed and with leftovers!

Out of everything i loved the empanada the most! Perfectly flaky she'll with tasty filling of spinach and cheese. We also tried the prosciutto on honeydew, it was an interesting combination and it matched. The fruit was extremely sweet. For main entry we try the platter but everything was too salty to our taste and they over cooked the meat but we didn't bother the waiters as they seem extremely busy during dinner rush hour. Overall it was fun to try this restaurant but im not sure if its good enough for us to return.

3.7 - I ordered the ravioli and short rib, and we also got an appetizer of the cheese dish. The server was nice, but the service was very slow. The inside is a very dimly lit and it's a bit hard to hear the people around you so keep that in mind otherwise it is quaint and if you go to the wine bar next-door, you can get $15 off a bottle of wine if you say you are bringing it to tango sur. The ravioli is good and I would go again for the pasta otherwise do not think I would go by choice.

Old review that I've been putting off doing since it's been a while since I ate here, but still remains one of the best and most worth meals I've had in Chicago! Went with family and we got an assortment of food but the best plate was the parillada for 2 - full of deliciously grilled juicy cuts including short ribs, flap steak, sausages, served with their house chimichurri. It's a great deal and super satisfying, but you really can't go wrong with an of the other meats. The place can get a bit tight since it's so popular and not that big a space but it's super worth it whether you're visiting or a Chicago native!

One of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. Some of the best steak entrees I've had here and the portions are HUGE! Great place for groups or a date night. It's also BYOB with no corkage fee! The entraña was one of our favorites. Empanadas were amazing too!! Service was great and attentive.

Tango Sur is an affordable Argentinian steakhouse in Chicago's Southport neighborhood. Best deal is El Filet, a 16 ounce double filet mignon for $55. Love the spinach mashed potatoes that come with it! You also get salad with any entree, but they charge $10 shared plate. Loved the Berenjena - eggplant spinach cheese casserole. BYOB. Great patio setting. Entire servicing staff has you covered, including an always full water glass!

The food was delicious! Everything was cooked to perfect just how we wanted it. The service was great and we were seated immediately. There was no corkage fee and everything was great. One star off because it was very dark in there.

Great vibes and it's very dim inside. It's BYOB, which made for a fun experience! It was my first time here, and the waiter did an amazing job explaining the menu and giving recommendations. Highlights: Berenjena en Escabeche: This cold appetizer features sliced eggplant marinated in vinegar. The sourness really helped open up our appetite for all the meat in the main course. El Filet: The meat was cooked well and I liked the sauce that came with it. The green mashed potato was intriguing, and I liked it because the unique look. We were so stuffed by the end, and we had plenty of leftovers to take home, even with just the two of us :)

Ask the Community - Tango Sur

    Is the restaurant Dog Friendly?

    Bar area for solo diners?

No, it is BYOB. But down the street is Bodega Sur where you’re welcome to sit at a bar and wait

Do you need to show proof of vaccination?

I went in September and didn't have to show proof. Might be best to call first to confirm since things are changing so much.

    Is it byob?

    I think so

What is the dress code? Is it different in the winter?

Dress code is always casual - just know it's a crowded place and you'll have a big coat like everyone else. Summertime means patio there, and it is dog friendly outside

How is the parking situation here?

Street parking, is ok in the area. Being Southport, it can depend on Cubs games how easy it is to find a spot. I'd recommend not driving if going before/after/during one.

To the check Id if you bring the bottle in yourself?

They didn't for us but can't say for all.... 🤷‍♀️

What's the best days and hours to go?

Any day during the week as long as it's Immediately when they open.

Can we bring a bottle of wine inside?

Yes and they don't charge a corkage fee!

It appears the menu has dramatically changed on website? Is it accurate that they no longer have the fillet with mashed potatoes or is this an error/condensed menu online? I'm planning a visit but the menu looks different now.

I just went last night and had the filet with the mashed potatoes. The menu was significantly larger than the one online.

Do I have to be over 21 to make a reservation?

Nope. They don't serve alcohol but it's byob. No age restriction on reservations

Absolutely everything was delicious, our top favorites were the Spinach/Smoked Provolone empanada (so much flavor) and the sundae (beautiful looking dessert, we probably scarfed it down in 5 minutes)! Service 10/10 From the hosting to the wait staff, it moved pretty effortlessly and we never waited long for any reason. Ambiance 10/10 We went for our anniversary, so the vibe and lighting were perfect, and felt very intimate. Great for a date night, or for just going out and experiencing great food in what feels like a very exclusive spot. It has been a long time since a place 'wowed' me, and it did not disappoint!

The evening improved dramatically once the table of overly loud, highly obnoxious, massively entitled bros next to us left and were replaced by a table of normal people. Even then, volume was on the high side but tolerable. By the end of the evening the smoke from the wood fires was starting to get a little irritating but I was the only one in our party who had a problem. Our server Nico was wonderful, as were all the staff. Attentive, unobtrusive, and solicitous of our needs. We were warned that servings are large and apps and sides are meant for the table. We ordered the bone marrow with luges, sweetbreads, a side of zucchini, 2 picanha steaks, and a steak frites. I felt that it was too much food for three people but YMMV. Two of the three diners felt that there were minor doneness issues with their steaks but not to the point of needing to send them back. All the steaks were tender and tasty but the hanger steak was both over salted and over sauced. We all agreed that the meat was good enough that it did not need to be overwhelmed by sauces. The crispy shoestring fries accompanying the hanger steak were outstanding and the portion was so large that I was able to comfortably share it with the rest of the table. The restaurant clearly does not employ a pastry chef and the dessert menu shows it. We declined to order dessert because frankly, the dessert menu was boring as all get out. Because we were celebrating a birthday, though, the restaurant brought out a small vanilla sundae with a big sparkler. The gesture was very much appreciated but confirmed our decision not to order dessert. The components of the sundae were epically pedestrian. The best part IMO was the sparkler. Still, the meal was enjoyable. FWIW, the bill for three people - one of whom does not drink and also ordered the least expensive steak on the menu - was well over $400.

My friend and I went for lunch and service was too tier. It was friendly and efficient including the guachos. Seven people, $700 all in, and so much regret. Service: 3/5 I'll start with the positive: the customer service was overall pretty good. It was raining hard, so after walking a few miles and exhausting other indoor options, we popped in 30 minutes early to see if they could seat us. They could, and they got us in quickly. So far, so good. I'm only giving this three stars because, at the start of our meal, servers poured out of the kitchen all at once. Normally, that would be great--better to be overwhelmed with food than wondering where it is--but the situation resembled chaos more than efficiency. They were in and out so quickly that I barely knew what I was being served. That said, I'll give them credit where it's due: they checked on us several times and kept our drinks full and the table stocked with bread. Food: 1/5 It was just bad. No amount of good service can make up for bad food. The salad bar was "meh." A decent assortment of options, but nothing to write home about. The meat--which is the whole point of the experience--was honestly terrible. It had no flavor, none. Somehow, even the fattier cuts were bland; I wondered if they forgot to season them entirely. It didn't help that almost every piece of meat we received, regardless of what we requested, was well-done and bone-dry. I tried so hard to enjoy it, but every bite was just a reminder that I was out $700 for food you'd usually have to pay me to eat. It was my birthday, and while I was surprised when the staff brought out a lava cake and ice cream, it was a bit odd that half the ice cream was already melted all over the plate by the time it reached the table. Atmosphere: 3/5 It was fine--nothing to brag about, but about what you'd expect from Fogo. My one critique is the smell; it was a lot better outside than inside. There was this weird, clinical scent--I don't even know how to describe it--that permeated the dining room. Otherwise, it was acceptable. Cost: 1/5 Way overpriced considering what we actually got. It really stings to waste our "once-a-year" expensive family dinner on such awful food. We're done with Fogo, unfortunately.

I came here after seeing the other reviews of the Deli and because of my love of empanadas. They have them here in a variety of sweet and savory flavors. The day I stopped in they had spinach, mushroom, ham & cheese, chicken, ground beef, cheese & onion, and on the sweet side quince, sweet potato, and caramel. As much as I wanted to try them all I decided to "just" go with spinach, mushroom, ham & cheese, chicken and the quince for dessert. The crust on the savory empanadas were crispy, flaky and buttery. All of the fillings were super flavorful. I'm only a recent convert to mushroom-eating, and the mushroom empanada was my favorite. I think it was the most flavorful of all of the ones I ate and I actually forgot that I was actually eating mushrooms! The quince empanada had a little thicker/harder shell, and had a quince jelly-like filling. It was very heavy but pretty good. Not too sweet. At a little less than $2 a pop, they're the perfect snack.
