I'm upset w myself for having lived in this neighborhood for as long as I have and taking this long to finally make it to dove's. We walked in around 9 on a Saturday morning and were sat pretty quickly. Love the old skool diner vibes inside. We sat at the counter and met Cortland, this man seems like a legend. He is so helpful, friendly, and real. My husband ordered the dove's deluxe and Cortland recommended the multigrain toast over Texas toast since I already ordered the Texas toast. What an excellent rec, that multigrain is very very good, I'll most likely be getting that every time. He also explained all the sauces in the little sauce basket to us and I'm so glad he did bc every single sauce is inventive and delicious. I got the brisket hash, those crispy potatoes are somethin special. I also had the horchata cold brew, he had regular coffee, they serve awesome coffee. I will most def be back, i understand why this restaurant has been around as long as it has! If you're gonna drive, parking can be a big hairy at this 6 corners, there's random pay to park nearby. We have been trying to come here for a year but can never get the timing right. They are so busy on weekends and during breakfast on random weekdays but my partner and I came here on a Wednesday at 1pm. No wait! This place is worth the hype, great southwest menu, reminded me of Austin, with subtle hints to El Paso, and Santa Fe. Great influences! I started with a sparkling water, a cold brew, and we shared Al pastor fries. The fries were flavored with Al Pastor, a served with a mayo (maybe chipotle). They were very tasty. I got the traditional breakfast with potatoes, over easy eggs, and both refried beans and avocado. It was great, the eggs were well cooked and my yolks broke open exposing their delicious yellow juice perfectly. The potatoes were crispy and the refried beans (black beans) were perfect, salty, and smooth. They also have two hot sauces one is pineapple and they have a chili oil at the table. I was looking for more heat / a more intense hot sauce but they were tasty. My partner got the fried chicken covered in gravy. It came with some spring veggies, peas, and onion. We started with the chipotle deviled eggs topped with hot sauce and scallions. I highly recommend the brisket hash with burnt ends, crispy potatoes, chipotle aoli, queso fresco, scallion, peppers, eggs, and toast. The masa pancakes are different and have some not traditional spices. They have a nice patio outside if you aren't able to get a table inside. For like 1.5 years, Doves has been recommended to me by many individuals, especially foodies. I finally decided to check it out and I went with a dear friend during Happy Hour - they serve food and drink. So for me, this is a great deal. Upon entering with no resy, we were seated fairly quickly. We greatly appreciated that with kind attitudes. Our server did a great job although it was clear he was overwhelmed and exhausted. My friend and I got the same meal of the fried chicken Sando and the horchata latte alcoholic. The drink - if you love coffee, I mean adore it, this is for you! Don't expect much liquor as this is pre- batched. Do not request mods as it's not accepted since it is pre batched. The sandwich fell flat on many levels. For $10, this sandwich came with no fries and no flavor. It was bread and meat. This is the type of sandwich you eat when you eat just to satisfy the task of feeding your body. Do not anticipate to eat this sandwich and expect flavor or to be full. I'm slightly inclined to return to Dove's but I'm also trying to determine what their cuisine is. Went for happy hour on a Saturday. It was busy, but service was prompt and friendly. We ordered the dirty horchata latte and the hot chicken sando. When I see the bartender also spinning vinyls like Chicago Souls and Joy Division, you know there's something special here. The energy in here is mystical magical and you leave a completely different person than who you were when you walked in. The brisket hash leaves me speechless every single bite. It never gets old. Add some chili oil, get your eggs over easy. Definitely add mushrooms (although it's a $6 upcharge, so depending on your finances you make the call). It's seriously a flavor explosion in the mouth. Masa pancakes were great. I'm more savory over sweet breakfast but they were the best pancakes I've ever had. Really good reheated too. The burger is another one of my favorite orders. Definitely order a Pacifico to go with your meal, and sit at the window if possible. We were in town for a wedding and stayed at The Robey. It was a short walk to Dove's Luncheonette. We enjoyed our first visit so much we ended up at Dove's a total of three times during our stay. We always arrived just before they opened because I was concerned they'd be packed. I'd say this is more of a concern on the weekend. We never had any issue getting our choice of seats, but the place did fill up quickly once the doors opened. The place is old school diner. It's clean and very cool. They have a turntable and play full albums. Everyone was super nice and helpful. On our first visit we both had the Brisket Hash, which was very good. So much so I ordered it again on our third visit. It's a big plate of delicious food; definitely a winner. One our second visit I ordered the Taco Norteno, which was outstanding! Every bite was literally bursting with flavor. The mix of salsas with the brisket and wonderful house made tortilla were enough to bring a tear to my eye. The meal was beautiful to look at and packed an explosion of flavor. It was 'the bomb'! (I don't really talk like that. It was a joke because I used the words "bursting" and "explosion" in my description. We started with the Crab Deviled Eggs. There are two to a serving. It's a small bite and yummy, but the price on this one seems a little high for what you get. That said, I'm very glad we tried them. Mark had the Chicken Fried Chicken. If he had his druthers, he would have ordered something else. It looked wonderful, but it was a bit too dry for his taste. We must have been tired on our third visit. Mark had the Dove's Deluxe, which sounds 'deluxe', but it is probably their most basic breakfast - eggs, toast, crispy potatoes and choice of meat. Mark had bacon. It was good, but not unique. I wanted the Tlayuda, but opted again for the Brisket Hash, which was still delicious. We will be back this October. We will definitely stop in Dove's for breakfast at least once. Absolutely yes. Walked over from the minute clinic across the street (rouge accident with a chefs knife...) because I was hungry and needed something familiar to cheer me up. I Heard great things about Doves and decided to give it a try. I was greeted immediately with a smile and told I could sit anywhere and I decided on the bar. I love the open kitchen, vintage vinyl playing, and the warmth of this place. The bartender was friendly and explained items on the menu. I decided on a cup of coffee and the BLT (and an egg for me) with fries. The coffee was classic and piping hot. The BLT was massive. The bread was absolute butter and delicious, plenty of thick cut bacon and the juiciest tomato. The creamy mayo situation on it was also very good.
