We had a pleasant dinner on a Sunday evening out on the patio. Luckily it's covered so the little bit of rain we had did not bother us. They had a very nice bread server with four individual oval French loaves with very tasty butter. We tried the provoleta with peppers because we like that a lot in Argentina, but this was nothing like it and I guess that was to be expected. There they have a bunch of drier version of provolone and they grill it directly on the grill grates and it doesn't really melt too much. This tasted like standard provolone cheese and it was melted in a bowl. It was tasty, and unfortunately they probably can't get the Argentinian version of the cheese they would need to do it correctly. Our friends got the beef brochette with asparagus and the outside skirt steak and both were fabulous. Well seasoned and grilled and tender. My husband and I got the 2 pound stuffed fillet! It supposedly had ham in the filling but I couldn't taste it or see it anywhere. Unfortunately it had a really strongly flavored sauce along with the portobello mushrooms. We expected something with fewer herbs, which kind of overpowered the beef. It's a shame because the way they described it on the menu is not what came out. It wasn't bad. It just wasn't what we were expecting and unfortunately, the beef flavor was hard to discern because of all of the herbs in the dark brown sauce. We brought our own wine and they didn't even have a corkage fee, which was amazing! We saw other plates go by with copious amounts of tomatoes and onions on salads and the filet mignon platter, it seemed like it was three or four pieces of fillet it had to be nearly a pound for one serving. The prices are pretty steep for the beef and they do charge $10 for sharing, however it might be worth just getting one of the larger plates and spending the 10 bucks to share as opposed to getting an entrée each and taking home lots of food which we did. read more

We love a BYOB with no corkage fee. Also, warm table bread!! Pretty easy to call in and get a res for a Sunday night. The warm table bread and butter was pretty good so it was an effort to keep from eating too much and ruining our appetite. We split a chicken empanada to start which was really good, especially with the chimichurri sauce. For mains, we split the parillada para dos - a large meat platter meant for two. It was came with a little house salad and was a super good deal with all the meat they gave you (we ended up with lunch the next day, too!) The best part of the dish was the short ribs. Super soft and sort of fatty tasting, but not in a gross way, in a really yummy way. We also really liked the chorizo sausage. The flap tastes good, but was a little tougher than the other meat. Came on a Thursday evening with reservations. Its an intimate steakhouse with mostly candle lighting to create a moody atmosphere. For appetizers I got 2 spinach&cheese empanadas and the provoleta. The empanadas were loaded and packed with flavor. The chimichurri sauce they came with was refreshing! The provoleta is roasted cheese so its really hard to go wrong there. The red pepper was a nice touch. I got a ensalada Tango Sur and the ingredients were fresh topped with a tasty vinaigrette. For my entree I got the Vacio. Wow I have not had such tender flap meat! The caper-white win vesuvio sauce really complimented the steak with such a deep flavor. My steak was cooked to my liking well also. The sweet potatoes that came with it melted in my mouth and were loaded with the caper sauce. I will say if you are particular about salt, this dish was on the saltier side but for me it was just right. The staff was friendly and helpful with the different options they offered. I came here with two friends for a mid week dinner to break up the week and had such a blast! The restaurant was dimly lit (in a good way) with a candle on the table. Very cute and felt intimate despite a full restaurant. The food was great- steaks all around served with a yummy Chimichurri sauce. I loved the spinach potatoes as well! First outing of 2026 and had a delicious meal at this Argentinean steakhouse!! We made a reservation but no one asked for it when we arrived and we were just sat. Despite the dimly lit, romantic mood they try to set, the space is simply too small and loud/noisy with convo! Tables are very close together and we were against a brick wall at a small table, which made it a little hard to move and for all our plates to fit comfortably. I was also worried about the open flame candle. The place is better for a nice dinner with friends or casual date, in my opinion. They start you off with bread and butter, and you can BYOB. We went with some apps and entrees. The meats themselves were amazing!! Loved the sweet beef empanada, rich with juicy flavors. The corn (&cheese) one was okay--piping hot inside! We also tried the prosciutto on honeydew, it was an interesting combination and it matched. The fruit was extremely sweet. For main entry we try the platter but everything was too salty to our taste and they over cooked the meat but we didn't bother the waiters as they seem extremely busy during dinner rush hour. I've been coming to Tango Sur for years, always enjoyed the food. The last two times I've gone the food was awful. First bad experience: Got the ribeye and it was 90% fat couldn't even cut through it. Figured, ok just a bad cut of meat no problem. Second time order the ribeye again med rare and the steak comes out super well done! I kindly asked for another steak figuring they just overcooked it. I was really excited to visit this restaurant, however, my experience was disappointing. It took 30 minutes to receive water, one hour for bread, and 1.5 hours for our food after ordering. Meanwhile, the table next to us received their water and bread almost immediately. As a former server at a high-end establishment, I completely understand that a busy Friday night can cause delays. However, what stood out was the lack of communication. A simple acknowledgment like, "I'm so sorry for the wait, your food may be delayed" or letting us know that we had been seated multiple times would have made a significant difference. While the food itself was enjoyable and lived up to my expectations, the service left me disappointed. I share this feedback respectfully, as I was genuinely surprised by the way my family was treated. It was just enough for our group of 4. The end of our meal was probably the worst. We were there for a birthday and asked to see a dessert menu, our waited specifically said we don't have one and told us "there's Dairy Queen down the street" and then within the same 10 minutes another waiter brings out a demo plate of 8 different slices of cake to show to a dinner party sitting right across from us. The ambiance of this place was dark. Not in a depressing way, but in a candlelit romantic dinner way, but so dark you can read the menu way. Our server was really good, giving us recommendations and was very helpful. We ordered: Jamon Crudo con Melon -- this one was interesting. Argentine asado in Chicago! At the end of the 2023 Chicago marathon, my runner wanted to come back to Tango Sur for a post-run meal. There's outdoor and indoor seating available but we opted to sit indoors where it was cozy and dimly lit with a candle on the table. We ordered... Ham and cheese empanada: tiny but tasty! The shell wasn't too thick and fried perfectly so this was great. Asado de Tira: star of the meal with well seasoned short ribs and some braised potatoes. Chorizo: 2 pieces with some lemon wedges. This was good to eat with the complimentary bread, like a hotdog. Tallarines: red pasta fettuccini, but can order with white sauce. This was ok and paired nicely with the asado Salad: standard with vinaigrette dressing Though I enjoyed the meal, I'm knocking off a star for the $10 charge for sharing plates and the service. Whenever anyone asks for a steak recommendation in Chicago I direct people to Tango Sur. 1. The affordability here is insane, you're not paying crazy premium prices for a mediocre steak here. 2. The flavor profile here, especially that of the chimichurri sauce that they provide for their empanadas and steak is out of this world. I literally salivate thinking about the sauce today and would inject it straight into my veins if I could. 3. The overall ambiance and service is supreme--the inside of the restaurant is dimly lit, guaranteed to put you in a food coma after you consume your steak. 4. It's BYOB??? And they have a neighboring wine bar (Bodega Sur) where you can grab a wine bottle from to take and consume at Tango Sur, as if it wasn't already great value for your money enough. 5. Huge portions and reasonable prices considering how much food you get! Really enjoyed a large group meal here. Best part is BYOB so you can enjoy delicious wine with your eats. I'm glad we got to sit outside as a big group because it was more well lit and quieter too. If you just come as a couple the inside should be OK but could be crowded otherwise. You do have to wait a bit even with a reservation because it's very busy. The service for us was still kind and mostly attentive. They did forget one of our appetizers but they just removed it from the bill. Entrees were good all around but what we got wasn't that mindblowing but will try something different next time.
