Anytime a new Italian restaurant opens up I always want to try it out. Well I have had Talia on my radar since it opened and I finally got to try it. My friend and I went on a Friday night and had reservations for 5:30. I walked in a little after 5 and decided to take a seat at the bar until she got there. The bartenders were super friendly and helpful when it came to picking a drink. They also have a happy hour starting at 5 I believe and it includes half off certain wines and cocktails. I ended up getting the Rotari Rose which was delicious! I would definitely recommend this place for a great happy hour spot. On to the meal. I ordered the ricotta gnocchi and my friend ordered the vegetable pizza. All the pasta is made fresh daily and you can definitely tell. The gnocchi were a nice size and you did get a pretty decent portion. There are a few things holding me back from giving this place a better review and that's the sauce. It was almost flavorless. The pizza also looked very bland in my opinion. I am a girl that eats a lot of pizza and it just seemed lacking/sad. We were in and out pretty quickly and the service was good. First I watched the chef cut something then eat a few pieces of whatever it was. Then I watched him open a large bag of Hawaiian rolls which I guess is served if you want bread. Then after 50 minutes I got the strangest chicken Marsala. It was a leg/thigh combined big, overcooked, dry hunk of chicken with overcooked noodles stuck together with a gross sauce. Then my husbands lamb loin was a large piece of overcooked lamb with more grissle than meat. Truly an awful meal. read more

Very disappointing! Publicity putting a time frame on time allowed to dine was very unprofessional and embarrassing. With a table of 6 purchasing several "small plates" as appetizers, cocktails, main course then dessert and after dinner drinks we spent over $1200. And we were hounded several times about a time frame when we weren't even there an hour. Meanwhile there were several 6 tops that were empty and no one waiting. Even when we were leaving there was no one waiting and only 2 people sitting at the bar ...this was Friday at 7:30 pm. We were not loud as we were meeting our daughter's boyfriend's mother. I could understand if it was packed and long waiting lines but this was not the case. We will NEVER go back as there are other restaurants happy to have our business. read more

So this restaurant was pleasant surprise ! The bartender was great he made me a super special drink so yummy lemon drop and raspberry. Then we had the wedge salad which was incredible. Pretty decent experience at Talia, we liked it but didn't fall in love. Made reservations for NYE, arrived a few minutes late but the dining room was pretty empty. We decided to be festive and start out with prosecco which is on tap and chilled to perfection. Quickly ordered the our daily bread to munch on since we were starving. The bread is not to be missed! It's fresh and crunchy and is served with oil, butter, and mascarpone. I ordered the kale salad to start and my boyfriend did the daily soup which was phenomenal. The kale salad was just okay. For our main course we decided on pastas; the gnocchi for me and the spaghetti for him. We actually ended up switching entrees but still had tons of leftovers. The portions are pretty darn big! The spaghetti was overhyped, and honestly had very minimal flavor despite the winter truffles. Probably would have gone for something else, but the menu was very limited for NYE. The gnocchi was fabulous though; it came in a red sauce with tender brisket. For dessert we just wanted a sweet bite each, so we decided on the gelato which comes with a splash of espresso on top. This restaurant sits in the vicinity of Hotel Monaco and the William Penn, a great spot. The excellent service started from the moment we walked through the door. Here's how it all went down... This place has a cool bar to the left of the reception area. Walking to our table, I noticed the open kitchen which I loved. There was hanging pasta and a carved pig leg on display. The menu provided options ranging from grilled wings and flatbreads to octopus, homemade pastas and impressively dressed rotisserie meats. The menu made it hard to make a final decision but we chose the grilled lemon parm wings, half portion gnocci and the porchetta. Wings- They were lightly seasoned but full of lemony flavor with a sprinkling of good aged parm. They had the perfect amount of char from the grille and the only thing needed was a small pinch of salt...darn near perfect. Gnocci- These may be the most delicate morsels of gnocci I ever tasted. The sauce was so fresh with chunky tomatoes and a large portion of brisket added in. Perfezionare! Porchetta- Pork loin seasoned with herbs and rubbed down with good oil just spinning all sexy in a rotisserie oven. There's fat dripping off of it causing the edges of the meat to become slightly glazed producing a savory sweet concoction. Once finished, the meat is sliced and laid on a garlic slathered toasted ciabatta half and dressed with creamed kale and caramelized onion. This was love at first bite across the table. I just had my first meal at Talia's and for the most part, it was very enjoyable! We made reservations for 11:30, walked in and the place was empty. However, around 12pm it fills up pretty quickly! Our waiter was helpful as far as suggestions for the menu, but we didn't see him again until we were all finished. This didn't bother me too much being that we didn't have any issues with our plates, but a check-in is always nice! The meals are served on a stone-like plate, which I liked because you avoid the scratching with your forks and knives, but they were heavy! The portions were decent in my opinion - I got the pork meatballs over polenta and I was comfortably filled after finishing it. Someone I was with ordered the flatbread and it's a 4 cut pizza, and she ended up taking a slice home. The other two people that were with me had mentioned that the gnocchi dish (w/ San Marzano/Calabrian chili/Brisket) did have a little spice to it, as well as the minestrone soup. The waiter mentioned that all the food and condiments are house-made, and you can definitely taste it! Overall, the food and the atmosphere are wonderful and the staff was friendly. read more

We were craving Italian and excited to try Talia for the first time. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. My husband got the orecchiette and I got the pappardelle. The rotisserie chicken in the pappardelle didn't taste fresh, and there was barely any meatball with the orecchiette. The pasta was good but underwhelming without better flavor in the sauces or good protein. It felt overpriced and overhyped all around. The best part of the meal was the focaccia and burrata with garlic oil and sea salt. Additionally, our server was nice and food arrived quickly. It seems their menu rotates so I'm wondering if they have better dishes at other times. Still, I would not return. read more

Very nice convenient restaurant. Was staying at the William Penn Omni and this location is super close, We were in a large group and they treated us really well. Talia is vastly overlooked, particularly as a downtown business lunch spot. After multiple visits, I've had only outstanding meals popping with flavor. Their Chop and Bibb salads are both phenomenal (they will add Chicken as a protein). Last week the Tomato Bisque was great. Their Rigatoni and Cacio e Pepe pastas are both great, and their pizzas come out crispy and seemingly as if one were in an authentic Naples trattoria. Service is outstanding as well. My friends and I stumbled into Talia after a Riverhounds game. They were accommodating with our casual dress and hunger for something other than stadium food. The fall cocktails here were delightful. In fact, I would opine that this might be one of the better casual cocktail bars downtown. Our server was fun, playful, and attentive. The food was alright. We started out with the brussel sprouts. Full disclosure, I effing love me roasted sprouts with pancetta, and parmesan. This dish was lacking in my mind. The pancetta seemed to be absent or underrepresented, which meant the dish was lacking serious salt flavor that compliment sprouts. The garlic cream was good but again didn't accent the sprouts in a way to make them live up to my expectation. My friends split the risotto and loved it. I had a bite and didn't think it was creamy enough for my palate, and I wanted more wine flavor to come through. I had the gnocci with the brisket on the side (so that a vegetarian friend of mine could try it). The gnocci was not the delightful cloud of air that I have come to expect from homemade gnocci, but the pomodoro was so good. The first bite that I had (sans brisket) had the sweet and strong flavors of basil in beautiful balance. My friends agreed. Then I added the brisket to the dish so that I could finish my meal. Mistakes. The brisket was good, but it overpowered the beauty of the pomodoro. Perhaps this was my fault for the brisket on the side, but I was sad and regretted the remainder of my meal. My three star rating is one that will have me return if I find myself there or with people that want to go, but seek it out, I will not. read more

It may look like your typical Italian restaurant, but it is anything but that! The menu is very large and I would recommend getting the chicken parmigiana. The restaurant was filling up quickly (it was almost 7 pm) but we managed to snag a table. When our Food arrived, our expectations continued to be exceeded. By the end of the meal we were planning our next visit. I absolutely loved the scenery here and everyone was so friendly. Don't let appearances fool you--the decor may be divey, but the drinks as well as the vast amount of sides on the menu are fantastic. Returned it and waitress recommended the ravioli ( with short rib) - pasta was raw. 100 times too much garlic which was raw again. So now I waited 10 minutes for clean replacement cutlery as well. A friend and I had dinner here last night. Our first time here and we were very impressed. I had the burrata with pomodoro and focaccia and it was delicious. My friend had the wedge salad and she enjoyed it. For my entree I had the rigatoni with vodka sauce and sausage (I asked for no peas). Wow that sausage and sauce were delicious and the huge rigatoni were chewy and not over cooked. My friend had the pork chop and she said it was cooked perfectly. Our server Kasey, was delightful. The focaccia was over 2" tall and heavy as a rock. I didn't except it to be Italian just by reading the menu but didn't think it would be such a far cry from the real deal. I struggled to decide whether to give Talia 3 or 4 stars. If I could, I'd give it 3.5. I stumbled across the restaurant on my way to an event. I got the event location wrong, so instead of self correcting, I decided to have a drink. The restaurant is roomy with tufted leather booth seats and the bar is pretty spacious. I cozied up to the bar and ordered a drink. The bar staff were attentive and helpful and I really enjoyed the drink I ordered which was called Moon over the Morn. I looked over the menu for something light. I was feeling peckish, but not famished. I decided to go with the roasted wings based on the bartender's reco. I'm a big fan of wings so I felt good about my choice until they came out. They were big whole wings, like really big, as if they were injected with growth hormones. I like my wings to look brown and well cooked. These were pale as if they were blanched and quickly pan-roasted. I cut one of them with my knife and it was still a little pink inside. I sent it back. They were accommodating and asked if I wanted to change my order but since I wasn't super hungry, I passed on the offer. I really dig the bar and the staff is really nice. It's a fairly new restaurant so it wasn't super crowded. Seems like it gets the corporate after work crowd. I'd give it another shot minus the wings! read more

Our server was really nice, so I want to make sure that y'all know none of this was her fault. The menu prices are astronomical, considering the quality of the food. The artichoke appetizer was a real disappointment. Although edible, and sorta tasty, it appears to have been made with canned sauce and canned artichokes and probably should have cost something like $6. Price point was almost double that. I actually think the artichokes were canned, and not fresh because they were pickled which wasn't great. The Caesar salad seemed to have been burned, not deliberately grilled which could have been yummy, but again, a miss. My partner's rotisserie chicken was dry, and this was the most disappointing part of all, as the place specializes in rotisserie style cooking! Flavor was there, but preparation was lacking, just like everything else. Oh, and the focaccia bread? That they charge $5 for? Like... it isn't complimentary?!?! Had the texture of an undercooked biscuit. If I'm being honest, I'd probably go back, because I'm assuming the food quality was impacted by covid. Most places can't keep a ton of fresh ingredients on hand right now because they go bad before you can use them, so they may have switched things to shelf stable products so they don't waste money and I respect that. I just can't believe that this place has occupied a giant corner location in downtown Pittsburgh for so long if the food isn't spectacular. read more

We literally sent everything back. I felt bad because the AGM/server was so nice, but I'm not gonna eat a bowl of raw sprouts and artichokes just to be polite. You could tell the sprouts had at least seen some heat in the kitchen, as the outer leaves were black with char. There was a little balsamic vinegar on them, maybe, and a couple of pieces of Macdonald's bacon but without the bacon flavor (I'm serious). However, you can't ignore the fact that you're eating a raw sprout. It's like work. The artichokes were raw, too. They had some strange congealed white sauce-looking stuff beside them, which also had no flavor...maybe some salt? No, nothing. Anyway, raw vegetables are edible and very good for you. I even like a bit of crunch to my veggies. However, imagine sitting outside on the street in a lovely part of a wonderful city in the evening, having a drink with your loved one. The air is warm. It's early evening. The sun's reflection is visible now only on certain buildings as it sets. You're sipping on your chosen alcoholic beverages and looking into each other's eyes as you both crunch away on your mouthfuls of raw sprouts. The ricotta stuffed gnocchi with brisket was tasteless. Seriously, it was like high school cafeteria beef in a canned tomato sauce poured onto the gnocchi. The gnocchi were not bad, but that's kinda like pouring a can of beanie weenies on top of a crawfish and calling it gumbo infused crawfish or something. It's just a waste of crawfish. You're not gonna enjoy it. Sorry. Great location downtown. Again, the poor server/AGM was brilliant. Good place for a drink, but they need to fix that kitchen. read more

The wait staff and food were amazing!! We decided to go out to dinner last minute and went to Talia without a reservation. The manager greeted us as if we were regulars; he was was so pleasant and on top of that, he also offered us free prosecco. The wait staff was excellent, very knowledgeable and personable and not uptight like most restaurants downtown. They were really easy to talk to and knew the menu top to bottom. We even asked them detailed questions on sides and seasonings in each dish. Food was out of this world. The flavors that came out of each dish were so surprising. We had the rotisserie porchetta and the gnocchi -- both of which we highly recommend. I also recommend sitting at the chef's table if available -- Chef Steve answered questions throughout our meal and it was awesome to watch him cook! Overall, it was a great experience. read more

Bravo, Talia. Who knew downtown had good Italian food, along with Il Pizzaiolo in the square. This restaurant is located on the corner of William Penn Place & 6th St, just underneath Alcoa apartments & across from Hotel Monaco. We had a reservation for 2 & we're immediately sat by the host. Our server, Nikki, was so nice and knew the menu very well so she was able to give her honest and best recommendations. We started with 2 glasses of Primitivo (one of my recent favorites), delicious broccolini, & two fall salads. The menu is always changing which I also love because the chef cooks and serves seasonal foods which enhances the taste of the plate and makes me want to try something different every time. Then we ordered a small plate of meatballs & large plate of pasta. We were able to customize our own gluten free pasta that wasn't on the menu. The red sauce and meatballs had the most perfect subtle kick that tasted just like my nana's. We then continued with two more glasses of white wine because we're wine snobs that like to pair perfectly our food. I like that the wine menu is authentic and encourages you to sip on something outside of your comfort zone. We then finished off with a comforting cup of espresso. I can't forget to mention the classy/chic/sassy interior. Everything has personality, even the plates! I will recommend this place to everyone !!! read more

I took a break from work and came to Talia for lunch around 11:30 with a guest and we were immediately seated. We split the daily bread (the olive oil is amazing) and broccolini (cooked perfectly) as appetizers. Great portions of both for two people to split. For our lunch, we split the classic pizza. It was a round pie cut in 4 slices with cheese and pepperoni. Our waitress added fresh parmesan to top. It was delicious!! Also a great portion size for two people to split. The service was great from the host to the waitress. The timing of the food was perfect - even though they weren't busy. I went here for lunch the other day and it was probably one of the worst experiences that I've ever had at a restaurant. Not only was the service absolutely awful but so was the food. It took over an hour to get food and when we actually got the food, the "homemade" pasta had a very gummy texture. It was in an overbearingly pungent cheese sauce. Another person that I was with also did not like the gnocchi and told the waiter that the sauce tasted like straight up tomato paste. The waiter argued with her and told her that is what a "pomodoro" sauce is. Ok.... She asked for a kale salad instead and then he brought her out something completely different. Not the kale salad. Needless to say, after the horrible experience we had, I will not be back. Consider spending your elsewhere. read more

While in town for a conference last month, my colleagues and I came here for dinner on a Thursday night. Unlike most of the other restaurants in the area which featured a 45 minute wait, we were seated immediately. The dinner menu had a limited number of options, but there was something for everyone: pizza, pasta, chicken, seafood, etc. I ordered the roasted half chicken with fingerling potatoes. I was sticker shocked by the $21 price tag, but there was nothing else that popped out for me. The chicken was very tender. Not quite fall off the bone tender, but a step above that. It was flavorful and juicy. The portion of potatoes was generous. These were somewhere in between crispy and soft, were well seasoned and tasty. No complaints at all about the service. We had two servers who made sure that we had what we needed. It's good, but pricey. So, the $$$ rating is justified. read more

Stopped in for a drink and appetizer during Happy Hour. The bartenders were extremely nice and attentive! Nice, open atmosphere with a good wine selection. During happy hour wines are $4 and there are select beers on special. We went with a cheese plate which is pretty basic but I was not overly impressed. The cheeses were all a bit strong for my liking and the crostini a bit burnt. We ordered a side of bread because the crostini's weren't great and the bread was SO GOOD! I asked what the delicious dip that came with it was, and it was just salted butter! It was the creamiest butter I've ever had. Overall, a nice place to stop. A great spot downtown. Made a reservation through Open Table. The restaurant space is nice, it's not too loud though it was about at half capacity tonight. The service was good. I started with the "Thymes New Roman" which was a gin-based cocktail, it was awesome. We ordered the bread which I'd definitely recommend doing. They told us they make the bread and pasta on site every morning. For my entree, I had the ricotta gnocchi which was very good, the brisket was perfect. It was a pretty big portion. A few folks with I was with had the porchetta which is one of their more popular dishes. I thought it was just okay, it honestly was a little dry. Someone else had one of the pizzas, it was fantastic (especially the crust). Prices are very reasonable. Overall, definitely worth a visit. read more

Additionally,I like this place for a few reasons: 1) They really know how to cook a mean scallop 2) Their entrees come with a decent complement of vegetables which aren't drenched in oil 3) You can actually hold a conversation in this place: noise doesn't bounce around in here and the music is far from intrusive. I will say this: the salt seemed a little out of control for us. My date's bisque almost tasted like it was made from a brine. Which is a shame because it otherwise had great flavor. Het steak was a similar story. That wouldn't keep me from coming back, nor was it really a buzzkill: just a little disappointing. read more

We started thinking that we were going to try for just appetizers, and base whether we were going to expand off of it. The atmosphere of the place is interesting. I believe it needs to be redone to have a better use of the space. There are three speakers for the music to come out, and they are in a couple of instances, placed too close to the HVAC vents, so it causes bouncing. The lighting is as inconsistent as the artwork, and there's no real reason to put a vespa into a restaurant that is trying to be more on the upscale side of things. The burrata and the octopus were off the charts good. Both were as close to perfect as I have had. Based on that, we ordered the gnocchi. Portion wise, it was good enough to share based on the double appetizer. It was just OK... when it came out, it was presented to us; however, we had to ask for Parmesan. The sauce was inconsistent in that it was a bit "watery" and had places where the acidity spiked. The gnocchi, itself was good; however, blending in a little something would have made it more upscale. The brisket was more of a pulled beef that one would expect in a stew, and not as advertised on the menu. I would have chunked the brisket, and taken advantage of the serving plates, and put it under a broiler after adding some cheese to give it a bit of a crust. read more

Kind of wished that it came with some bread to scoop it all up. The gnocchi was really good. They were bigger than normal but not that many in there. We also had the chocolate flourlesscake. More like a brownie but still nice. The only thing that was 10 bucks and really not worth that piece. But the quality out ways the quenity. Went here for the first time last night for dinner. We ordered a few small plates; the brussels sprouts, beets, bread, and hot sausage meatballs. The only item we would order again were the beets. We also all got the Romaine salads. They did not have much dressing and the dressIng was a little watery. For dinner my friend had the scallops which she said were very good, I had the ricotta gnocchi with brisket. The brisket was took salty and the pomodoro sauce was way too acidic. They were probably meant to balance each other but overall I wasn't a fan. The third person in our party had the classic and Margherita pizzas. He said they were also fine. The wine selection was nice and there was a good bar area, would probably only go back for drinks. read more

We had such a great diner here about a week ago on our first visit to Pittsburgh. The service was super friendly and just the right amount of attention. The appetizer plate we got was all very tasty--the center-piece was the prosciutto, to tender and buttery. I had a fresh pasta plate with mussels & clams. My wife had a gnocchi plate with mushrooms.
