The food is good. Really good actually. BUT he main problem is the place it's self, and the portions to price ratio. Every plate is about $15 keep in mind this is a small tiny place on van nuys Blvd. I ordered the lomo and I swear I had about 5 pieces of steak mixed in with mountain fries and big cup of rice. The protein to carb ratio is a joke. Basically a $15 French fry plate. The host/cashier/waiter/server was a joke. Some punk kid that thinks his in a kpop hip hop video or something. You don't know if you order at the counter or if you sit down and he brings you a menu. All he had to say was "what do you want" You get no bread rolls with green sauce like every Peruvian place serves. I've been coming to this place for years! It's never let me down. Everything is cooked perfectly and the whole chicken is always perfectly moist. The burrito saltado's are my favorite. Today was my first time trying the food at this place. I ordered pollo saltado and ceviche. It was amazing! The pollo saltado was cooked to perfection and was very tasty. The ceviche was beyond my expectations. It was so delicious and it's definitely a must. I highly recommend this place. We were helped by a man who was running the cash register and I have to say that he has great customer service skills. From the moment we walked in he acknowledged us right away and sat us down. He immediately took our order for drinks. I wasn't familiar with their Maracuya and Chicha Morada and he was kind enough to offer me a sample of both. I went for the Maracuya and it was so refreshing especially with this hot weather. This man was very courteous and for a moment I thought that he was the owner until I asked him. He kept coming to our table to make sure we were happy with our food and always had a smile on his face. Now that's how you run a business! Delicious food and outstanding customer service. Let me clarify: the food here is fantastic. 5 stars all the way. The service is the issue. Every experience prior to my June 2015 visit was stellar. This most recent visit was dreadful. A friend and I drove out of our way at rush hour on a Friday afternoon (read: DEATH) to come here for dinner on a Friday night because 1) the food is amazing and 2) we had a Groupon. Didn't realize till we handed it over that we can't use it on Fridays. No biggie, it was our mistake. Waitress leaves us with the menus and does not return for over seven minutes. Mind you the space is tiny- we are constantly looking over at her to try to signal that we're ready as she takes care of other guests and then sits down to look through her phone. Finally she remembers we exist and takes our order. Her response to everything I attempted to order? "We're out of that. We've been really busy and we got a lot of call ins for that." Really? You're out of Sanguchon? When you just put an entire rack of chicken in? You don't have steak or tallarines even though steak is on several menu items? I'm not saying that couldn't have been true, but some clarification is needed here. Friend ended up ordering a quarter chicken. It was delicious but tiny- as in cornish hen tiny. I had the tacu tacu. Again, delicious but there could have been a wee bit more steak given its ratio to the rice. (Again, we ordered steak and chicken yet you said you're out of menu items with steak and chicken?? Explanation please.) Customer service and transparency regarding the availability of items are sorely lacking. so the food here deserves 4 stars!!! great food! but the service here is terrible there's a lady here with short hair that is the absolute worse. I came here with my wife to get a light dinner since she is pregnant she needs to eat every few hours. so we weren't planning on eating much. she seemed offended that we only ordered two tamales. we asked for water and she brought us a bottled water. we wanted tap water instead and she never looked over in our direction so we nevet got a chance to ask for tap water. shortly before we got our food a lady came in to complain and ask for her money back. this apparently put the short hair lady in a real bad mood. when she brought out our food I asked her for tap water instead of bottled after this point she didn't say a word to me or my wife I said thanks many time to her and never even got a your welcome once. read more

Finally an amazing Peruvian restaurant in the valley. Portions are huge but the flavors are even bigger. Not too expensive considering other Peruvian restaurants and you are sure to leave with a full stomach. They offer you a taste of three amazing home made salsas which are amazing. I don't often go to the valley, so I don't know what's good out there. Yelp steered me here for a quick snack, and I thought I'd go for it. Now, after my rusty Spanish skills caused me to mistranslate something, I settled on the Sanguchon. There were a few things I was iffy on, so I asked them to not put them on the sandwich. Normally when I do things like that, i realize I've already compromised the balance of the sandwich, but in this instance, I was quite surprised it was just as flavorful and tasty as if the things were there. Family late lunch here on Sunday was a smart choice for our group of 5. We enjoyed all of our food including Calamari, ceviche, medio pollo with sweet potato fries and plantains, seafood chaufa (our favorite of all the dishes), and lomo saltado (great flavor but we think it was overcooked). Pretty delicious overall. I recommend the chicken burrito and the half chicken meal. All their sauces are the bomb. The fried yucca is soft and has a very nice texture. They also have a couple juices up front, passion fruit and red corn last I was there, both good. This place is simply immaculate. My boyfriend threw out the idea to get Peruvian food when he picked me up from the Van Nuys transit center, so to Yelp I went and for lomo saltado I searched and bam! Takatis it was. We've been here a handful of times, it is a bit of a drive for us, but when we are up for it, it's well worth it. TJ never strays from the lomo, but I myself, have only tried one other item aside from our usual. I love that the place is so tiny, and every time we go, we get "our table." There's usually a wait, but we're never in a rush. Maybe a bit hungry from the 45min drive, but no rush. And once we get our food, the heavens open and the angels sing. Always great food and great experience for us. This is definitely our go to Peruvian place and I am so glad we stumbled upon this diamond in the ruff. read more

The gracious couple that took care of me here have my undying long distance devotion. I was a lone traveler from Kentucky but we didn't talk bout that. They just welcomed me like I was in their kitchen. And I was! I must've looked lost because she offered me tastes of their fresh beverages - passion fruit juice and the red one they make daily (yes I forgot again what's in it). I gave her my diet coke can unopened to return to the fridge. I will not forget the Ceviche I had ! The approval on my face was clear to them. They enjoy sharing the love in their food with others. For the 1st time experience it was OK. I tried the Burrito Saltado and the food itself was good. Good Seasoning, and it was fulfilling. BUT... I ordered a Burrito, which comes with meat throughout.. I finished more than half the burrito and on my last 3 bites I found the Meat. (Small amount)... That for me is not OK, Not only was it pricey ($8 SOLO) , But I know If I would of gone to the Mexican Place across the street and paid $5 for a burrito, I would have gotten more meat. read more

The chicken is good and flavorful and hot from the oven. The fries are bomb, I could come back for the fries alone. The yucca frita is really good too! Great crust and fluffy insides. The tallarin verde had amazing flavor and the accompanying steak was really good too. You have to have the homemade drinks, the compliment the food well.
