I have been to Puro Sabor a couple of times and the food and service has always been great. The food is always fresh and seems like it's cooked to order. I have tried the chicken soup, Yuka Frita, the Steak Lomo Saltado, Passion fruit juice, a seafood plate appetizer and it has all been delicious. I'm so disappointed. I called on Friday, May 9, 2025 asking if it was going to be open on Sunday for Mother's Day. Yes, I was told and no need for reservation. What time do you open, I asked. We went to the restaurant to place an order in person at 11:00a and they were not open even though it was past their stated open hours. Yep, you heard that right, Google! Feeling a bit adventurous, I asked again, and she confidently says, "Don't worry, I know the prices in my head." Got the food to go but it was all delicious! Definitely recommend Papa a la Huancaina. I also got the Tallarines Verde con Bistec yum! There was also this green sauce that came with the meal it was very tasty a little spicy at first but I adjusted. The portions were decent for the price I feel. read more

Just had the choros a la Chalaca here for the first time. They're steamed mussels served on the half-shell with a marinade of citrus, onions, corn, chiles, and other flavors. The effect is like a mussel ceviche and it's one of the most flavorful things I've had in a long time. The aji verde here is tasty and packs a nice punch, more capsaicin than garlic. I was excited about the causa rellena, as I don't see it on menus often in Peruvian restaurants in LA. I've had a fondness for this dish since trying it at a Peruvian-run restaurant in my home town. It was good, though not quite matching my reminiscences of Olinda's from the 1990s. Puro Sabor serves it as a slice from a roll, rather than a stuffed ovoid or ball; it's served cold with a small salad of marinated onions on the side. Service is friendly and happy to explain the dishes. I'm curious about a board listing guisos that are not on the printed menu. They also have an intriguing list of Peruvian desserts. Absolutely delicious!! I got the steak saltados and it was some of the best steak I have ever had. We started with the fried plantain appetizer which were super hot and fresh and had a lovely acidity. A wonderful start to our meal! I would also highly recommend the seafood pasta which has a wonderful, flavorful, and creamy sauce that really made the dish stand out. The chaufa (fried rice) is another great choice which we also got for the table. We came by for lunch for a friend's birthday as it is one of his favorite Peruvian restaurants - and him being Peruvian, I trusted his instinct and favoritism! When we walked in, it was a bit shocking to see a completely empty restaurant and although we came for an early lunch around 11:30, even when we left at 12:30 the place only had one other table . . . not a great sign. The waitress was nice but she only spoke Spanish. Luckily in our group of 4, there were two Spanish-speaking co-workers but it wouldn't be great for a group or person who does not speak English and tries to change something in their order. Just my two cents. I ordered the Lomo Soltada and initially asked to substitute the rice with plantains, to which (through translation) I was informed that the waitress didn't want to serve me plantains because they were still green . . .uh what? Plantains are almost always "green" and they get cooked anyway so it's not like I'm being served raw green plantains but whatever. The food is plentiful. The steak in my dish was tender well marinated, and the vegetables were cooked well. The sauce was decent, nothing spectacular but still well seasoned too. They definitely skimp on the meat and load up the dish with the veggies and thick cut fries, which become soggy while sitting in the sauce. It seems they made my dish and let it sit before bringing it out with the rest as it was really soggy. Overall for $14, it wasn't worth it. Too little meat and not enough flavor for it. You can get it spicy or not - I ordered spicy and it was a little too spicy for me but still soooo delicious. The seafood was flavorful and side dishes of corn and potato were really good with it. We also had the Lomo Saltado which is a popular Peruvian dish and definitely another good flavorful choice. Service was great, even if it looked like only 1 person was working that night. The meat with the noodles was the worst I have ever eaten. The meat was sliced so thin that when it's cooked, it's dry and hard, the noodles are so heavy. Puro Sabor is an authentic Peruvian restaurant offering a variety of dishes. The price point is a bit high for a restaurant situated in the area of Van Nuys. There's plenty of parking in the back where you can enter from. To start each person is served a loaf of bread with butter and a green chili chimichurri- like sauce. It's super spicy and super addicting. 5 of us ordered a different plate so we can try each others foods. I ordered the 'picante de camarones' based on the Yelp reviews. I expected a spicy shrimp curry. Instead it tasted like shrimp mixed with nacho cheese. Although it was tasty, I was underwhelmed with my dish. The fish ceviche was also underwhelming. With hepping amounts of onions on a bed of fish we expected more than a light salad for $16.50. Saltado de Lomo y Camarones was by far the best dish we ordered. The typical rib eye steak & shrimp with carmalized onions. The flavors were on point and if I ever comeback then I'll be sure to order this. I am a huge tamale fan and I really wanted to try it here but it was $8 when I'm used to paying $2 lol I thought for that price maybe it's big and comes with rice and potatoes on the side but the server told us it's just a typical tamale. Overall I had an ok experience. The restaurant is nice and clean. The food was good and the menu had a nice variety but it was extremely over priced compared to other restaurants in the area. We got the causa rellena de pollo as an appetizer which came with mild pico de gallo and tasted like polenta stuffed with creamy chicken salad. I ordered the pollo de saltado which came with flavorful chicken, onion, tomato, fries and rice. He got the bistec apanado which came with super yummy beef, onion, tomato, fries, and rice.
