They have a huge sign advertising a free Thai tea with a $20 purchase, but conveniently no one mentions it when you order. When we asked about THEIR promotion, the employee caught a major attitude and acted like we were asking for a favor instead of something they advertised. We're not begging for a free drink that's on your own sign. If honoring your own promotions is such a problem, maybe don't advertise them. Haven't been here in years and boy have I missed it!! The parking lot is unfortunately awful and super small. Even if you park within the lines, it's impossible to get out of your car if someone parked next to you. The huge glass windows make this place really pop with natural light. Service is excellent. I think the young lady who served us was the owner? Super sweet and works FAST. I love how quick they are here!! There was an annoying fly that landed on our rice and she immediately took it back to give us a new one. She also made sure to check on us and give us what we needed. The soft shell crab with shrimp and garlic fried rice is an absolute must. Comes with a citrus semi-spicy sauce which I could eat with literally everything!! I need a bottle of this stuff lol! When we used to live in Sherman Oaks, this was our go to Thai spot. This was the first time we ended up eating inside. Our server was great and kept on checking up on us. The food was good as I remembered. The Chiang Mai pork belly reminds me of lechon kawali. It's cut in to smaller pieces and comes with this Thai sauce that's really good. My boyfriend and I decided to dine here today as we were in the mood for Thai. We ordered salmon fried rice, beef Panang curry, crispy prawns and broccoli beef. Now, before I get into this review I want to say that I rarely leave reviews but this food pissed me off so much that I felt people should be warned. So let's start with the appetizer. Crispy prawns . When this came out it was few pieces of flavorless tempura shrimp, broccoli and carrots. Yes fried broccoli and fried carrots. No where in the description was this included. As a dipping sauce we had extremely watered down sweet and sour sauce. When I asked for a less watered down sauce, the waitress said they did not have any. At the time, I just brushed this off but now I realized that they were cutting back on cost by replacing prawns with vegetables and adding water to their sauce. The next item was the beef Panang curry. When it came out I was confused as to what this was. It was unlike any curry I have ever ordered. It was simply beef and curry sauce. Nothing else. I thought this is different than I expected but let me go ahead and try it. The beef was so tough I couldnt even eat it. Mind you on the menu it says melt in your mouth beef. My boyfriend described it as jerky. I wouldn't even give it that. This meat was flavorless and unchewable. The broccoli beef was also extremely sub par.The sauce had a slimy texture to it and it also had the flavorless unchewable beef. Lastly was the Salmon fried rice. This was the only decent dish. Notice I said decent. When I mentioned my complaint to the waitress she took no accountability at all. I also over heard the people next to me complaining about their food and the waitress was once again taking no accountability. In closing, if you are in the mood for Thai, think twice before coming here. Save your money, they are cutting back here and you will be paying full price for a budget meal. read more

A gem of a restaurant in the valley serving up delicious Thai food! Kinnara is definitely a hidden gem. Although they're tucked one of the many shopping malls that line Sherman Way in the Van Nuys area, they are a departure from the hole in the wall restaurants you'd come to expect in that area. Every time I eat here with friends and family I enjoyed good food and good service. Tonight I was disappointed. I ordered seafood Pad Thai. When it was served it was missing the mussels and scallops. I asked the waitress where was the rest of the seafood and she answered that they didn't have mussels and scallops so they gave me more calamari and shrimp. I told them they should have mentioned the missing seafood before I ordered. When the bill came the suggested tips were 18%, 20% and 22%. I paid $40 and they shortchanged me. Our experience at Kinnara Thai was pleasant. We both ordered the Yellow Curry and we had veggie egg rolls as an appetizer as well as some Kikusui sake. The ambience of the restaurant was beautiful and I enjoyed the Buddhist decor. Service was great and the food was delicious. It's not the best Thai yellow curry we had ever had as it was a little oily rather than a creamy buttery base soup. Loved the Thai food here! The menu contained many options but the favorites are always what tugs at my heart lol - pad thai and a curry! Service is exceptional and they are very mindful in keeping your water filled, I appreciated that a lot. The restaurant environment gives off somewhat elevated experience compared to a fast Thai place, so definitely a sit down restaurant with sit down restaurant prices. Since I knew what I wanted, I was happily enjoying the noodles and seafood curry. Do note that they add a 15 percent surcharge to your bill. This is clearly written in their menus and it's not hidden, but still surprised me. I get it, but still tipped a bit since I was already by default charged that surcharge. I've had this Thai restaurant on my list of places to check out. They have two different locations. One in Van Nuys and one in Las Vegas. I've heard good things about this place so I decided to check it out. I first ordered a cold Sapporo on draft while I looked through the menu. They offer a good list of beers and wine. Started with Calamari to start with. It's a decent size starter with plum sauce. I give it a 6 out of 10. Then I decided to try their Yellow Curry with chicken. I ordered it on the medium spicy side. Everything was extremely fresh and the flavor and texture were definitely on point. You should definitely check it out. The service was really great and the people are extremely friendly. Very disappointed to be served vegetable spring rolls that were just the most generic factory made ones.

The prices went up 30% and apparently, the food went down 10% in quality. Eating here is now too exorbitant for it to be a regular haunt as it was. Sadly the location isn't as safe, quiet and hip as it should be to warrant this kind of price increase. Prices need to come down to their normal (which was already pricey for a Van Nuys Thai spot) for us to come back. I was even glad to leave large tips before.... A dinner entree should be $10-20, and an appetizer is meant to be $6 not $9. A can of Coke should be $1.50 and not $4. A single person should not pay $25 for an advertised lunch special.... While the service was a little bit slow on the Tuesday morning I was visiting the friendly server did her best to please everyone seated outside. I ordered the Red Curry with Chicken from the menu and waited patiently for my food. My dish arrived within reasonable time and here is my dine in review. First off, the portions here are huge. My dish came with a big pot of boiling hot red curry with chicken, a small side salad and a small bowl of steamed rice. The curry didn't disappoint one bit and it was loaded with sliced chicken, sliced bamboo shoots plus red and green bell peppers and of course fresh basil. I ordered the dish 3 out of 5 spice wise but it still was too mild for me and I wish it would have had a little bit more of a kick. 5 stars for keeping the food awesome and reasonably priced.
