07/20/25 - Peruvian Food Day at Lola's Chicken in Van Nuys is a delicious destination . The place is small but serves some authentic tasting Peruvian dishes. The "Aji" (Peruvian Hot Sauce) is on point and a bit spicier than normal. The Peruvian style wood fired chicken "Pollo a la Brasa" is very good. Ask for the fries on a separate plate. We did not do that and the fries steamed the crispness of the skin. Other than that... no complaints. Went to Lola's Peruvian Chicken and it did not disappoint. The pollo à la brasa is made the authentic way with incredible flavor--hands down the best in the Valley. The chicken is so tender it practically melts off the bone. The fries were fresh and delicious, and the aji had all the right flavors with the perfect kick. The place was packed when we went, which says a lot, and while the customer service is ok, I'm there for the food and not to be pampered. We live in SCV and the drive is worth it every time. Just terrible. Orderer the famous picarones and what I got was a salty, dense chewy dough with a side of syrup. Picarones are supposed to be airy, light, slightly crunchy to the bite and should taste like pumpkin, cloves, cinnamon and slighlty sweet. These tasted like salty (very salty bread). The syrup was fine what that's about it. Even the shape was wrong. I am in the SFV practically every week and usually get pollo ala brasa regularly. During the height of covid we got takeout at different places for variety. This has been on my list and the 4 attempts to order last year made me realize this place is popular even with the mandate. I guess now people are out and about on vacation cuz my call finally got picked up. Lady only spoke Spanish so I tossed the phone to my mother-in-law who spoke high school Spanish to place our lunch order. Worker understood (lol) and when I picked up I ordered plantains and alfajores. Chicken was amazing-flavorful and tender. Loved everything else: our beans, rice, fries, plantains and cookies. Was interviewed at this restaurant and I love the food, don't get me wrong. However, the cashier is always rude, has an attitude, and never says the promotions over the phone. Ordered food over the phone and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. Was not ready when I got there 20 minutes later. Also I look up at their screen where the menus are and they have a promotion for a pollo entero with two sides and an inca kola for a cheaper price of what I already paid. I tried to add the soda to be able to get the promotion but cashier said "Sorry can't give it to you because you didn't order the promotion, would you still like to get an Inca Kola?" I don't work there. I don't know the promotions. I don't have eyes to see when I'm on a call to see the promotions. Horrible. read more

This is a hole in the wall, which I wanted to support and recommend to others. But, due to the following reasons they only get 1 star: 1) Given the wrong order (6/15/2020) that was placed via phone: Instead of Lomo Saltado- beef, only chicken was given without any rice nor fries (which comes with Lomo Saltado). The person who picked-up the order was handed the wrong order by the owner. Due to COVID-19 precautions, the person who picked-up the order was not going to open up and touch the food until it was home. The restaurant staff, especially the owner, should ensure the correct order is handed to the customer. 2) When I called Lola's Chicken to inform them the same date (6/15/2020) that they provided the wrong order- just chicken, instead of the beef Lomo Saltado plate, the person who answered agreed the owner had made a mistake. I explained that I live 30 minutes each way from their restaurant, and was informed by a staff member that I would be given 1 free Lomo Saltado order on another day this week, if I reminded them about their error. I thought they would redeem themselves- WRONG- they lied. 3) I called again 2 days later (today, 6/17/2020), and guess what? The person who answered the phone at 3:18pm, was VERY RUDE. I was asked, "Didn't you already eat the chicken?" referring to my WRONG order 2 days ago. Completely unnecessary remark. Finally, I gave up on this place and told the staff member to ensure the correct order is given to customers in the future. (See photo of chicken that I did NOT eat, because it was not what I ordered, and was not even given rice). We've been customers for years. In the last few months we've seen this place go from bad to worse. Their chicken is good, their ceviche not so much although it used to be really good a few years ago. What has been really disappointing is their customer service, if you ask for a cup of water they'll tell you that their water machine broke so you have to buy a bottle. FYI, it is CA law to provide a cup of water when asked for one.This has happened twice and on the most recent one the lady in the front gave us a bottle of water, we had just paid about $70 bucks for our order but when we got up to throw the trash out and leave, she sent a waitress to ask us to pay the $2 for the bottle of water she gave us. That situation made me very upset as we were regulars there. But this not being enough, we went back for take out, not only they took forever to have our order ready, but for an entire chicken and lomo saltado they gave us 1 little green salsa and 1 little mayonnaise. We got a salad too and we got it with no dressing at all. It is sad when you realize you will not be going back to a place you used to enjoy before. read more

Over the years we've come to Lola's because their rotisserie chicken was absolutely delicious and their green sauce was just the bomb! I'm sad to say that tonight may have changed that....the chicken was just cloyingly over salted. It was just a salt bomb today. It makes me very sad as we've always loved the take out, staff was always great and this little hole in the wall was just lovely with its lovely food. Now I don't know...it can't be just an off night as they have multiple birds rotating on the fire, it had to have been batched and if they did that to whole batch then man that is just bad. After one visit having ordered the ceviche mixto and eating in-house I'd say the overall experience was not very fun. The prices are quite high just like everywhere else but unlike some places where that's justified, here the ceviche is mediocre and very unsatisfying. They don't even serve complimentary rolls of cheap white bread like most Peruvian joints and the aji sauce legitimately sucks.
