We feel in a small simple restaurant in a neighborhood in Guatemala. Music loudly in Spanish, customers know each other, the service is friendly and fast. Don't create expectations like a regular restaurant, but go to open for a new culture vibe. They have marimbas on weekends. The nachos are different than Mexican ones. Tried this place after driving by so many times. Parking is around back and you walk around to the front to enter. The restaurant is small and kind of a little hole in the wall. The tables were sticky when we sat ourselves. There was one server working and she didn't seem too happy to be there. She brought us chips and salsa but the chips were extremely stale. We ordered a coke and a corona and the carne asada plate and taquitos with a side of rice. There prices are outrageous for the quality of food. They brought out the taquitos and they were over fried and burnt on both ends. The taquitos themselves were about 6 inches in length and there was only meat in the very center which would be about 2 inches worth of meat. I had to already rip off the burnt ends so there wasn't much left. The rice was ok not much flavor so I added the sauce they gave me for the taquitos to it for flavor. My husband said the carne asada was good but the beans were like mush and he didn't like the rice. I was very disappointed in this place. For charging those high prices the food should have been of better quality and taste. Do not recommend this place if you're looking for good food and affordable prices. read more

This is a hole-in-the wall type of restaurant. It's very small, and it's tough to find parking but you're able to find some across the street. The food didn't taste bad; however, I'm personally not used to eating food from Guatemala. Its a taste you have to acquire, I went on a Saturday and there was live music, so it was hard to hear the people in my party talk, but it's enjoyable if you like live music. read more

I've been here twice so far, it's delicious! Service is friendly and attentive. I've had the menudo which is so damn good, mojarra Frita, and the garnachas which were also very good. I will say though, you do need a palate for the mojarra. It's good, but tricky to eat because of all the bones. Little on the fishy side as well, but I mean come on it's fish what else is it supposed to taste like. I can't wait to bring my friends and family here! read more

Food is good, it has that authentic Guatemalan taste. Being born and raised in Guatemala it's nice to have a place where you can revisit those memories when your abuelita used to cook some traditional Guatemalan cuisine on Sundays. When I was homeless I visited and asked before being seated for a meal "on the house," to which my waitress agreed. At the end of my meal she brought my check. Confused, I said we'd agreed that I would not be paying and that my meal was covered by the restaurant. I was living on the streets and had no money whatsoever (digitally or cash) to afford any food, let alone my bill at the restaurant. In response, the waitress took the bag I had with me that contained all of my belongings (I carried every thing with me every where since I had no place to keep them), and held onto them as payment. To this day, I have not forgiven this offense, and it disgusts me to have ever been treated so coldly and to have been lied to up front. I would not recommend this establishment to my worst enemy. When I go to a restaurant I haven't dined at before I always like to try several different things. Abuelitas makes this easy with their "Abuelitas Main Course" (Especial de la casa) which features a nice variety of Guatemalan dishes. Included on this marvelous platter are a thin cut Rib Eye steak, Carne Adobada, homemade sausage, a chile relleno, guacamole, fried plantains, and beans and rice. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted great. The chile relleno had meat in it making it surprisingly unique compared to the relleno I've had in Mexican restaurants. There was so much food I took the Carne Adobada and the plantains home with me. I also ordered the appetizer sampler for take out. This took up 2 large to go containers and featured mini garnachas, enchiladas, taquitos, a chuchito, a chiplin tamale, and fried plantains. These were all delicious as well. The restaurant was busy but the servers were all friendly and made sure I had everything I needed. Prices were very reasonable for the generous portions. read more

Everything we were served was delicious. We tried the Atol de Platano (not for diabetics) for the first time and it was great - it's a little thick, warm and sweet...just the perfect blend The Atol de Elote was just as good. My fiancé and I shared the House Special with a few meats and even a stuffed chili relleno with meats veggies and great spices. I'm a fan of chili rellenos- the filling was well blended with chicken. Always a good spot to go. Food is good and consistent. Never had a bad meal here, although I follow their main staples. Decent prices and they have hand made tortillas. They have outdoor seating and a parking lot in the back. Their garnachas can be a bit greasy at times but compliments well with the sauce. read more

My daughter order a hot chocolate and the price in the menu was $2.50, when we got the check, they had charge us $4.75 for the hot chocolate, when I asked the waiter why he charged me more, his answer was..... those prices are wrong we don't go by those prices anymore! and after we realized that he had over charged us for all 3 drinks a hot chocolate, coffee and atol de elote! Online order announcement: do not order from their website! Their website links you to "Clorder" for online delivery, and the delivery is fulfilled by DoorDash. I placed an order online today at 5:30pm, only to get a call just now at 7pm from DoorDash that my order has been cancelled because they never received it. I then call the restaurant and speak with someone who confirms that they no longer use Clorder, and I should instead order from Postmates or Uber. The restaurant should turn off the link which appears DIRECTLY ON THEIR PERSONAL WEBSITE (pic attached) and rectify this situation immediately. I paid via PayPal and was charged immediately, and now I have to go through PayPal to get a refund, I'm still hella hungry, and have to do a plan B on dinner tonight. Damn you guys cause the food is pretty good (though Kakik too salty sometimes), but this is a massive online order fail. read more

This place is so good that my boyfriend and I have been there three times in one week before. Everything from the food to the service is just amazing. The menu is perfect with a wide variety of options. The food always tastes flavorful and fresh. I highly recommend ordering the Plato Amalia. It comes with carne asada, carne adobada, sausage, beans, rice, fried plantains, guacamole and tortillas. Everything is well priced. All the plates I have tried are big portion size. The service is great and the servers are very friendly and kind. They all really know the menu so they have really good recommendations on what to try. This is one of my favorite restaurants for so many reasons and I highly recommend trying this authentic and traditional cuisine! read more

No bueno! Placed an order online. My husband and son went to pick up my order since it said it would be 30 minutes and they said the owner was supposed to give the order to the restaurant and didn't. So my husband had to replace the order and wait. My husband comes home almost an hour later with foot that looked and tasted like it was just thrown on the place and in a foil. Their tamales had maybe a tiny piece of meat in each and it was completely mushy, even mashed potatoes hold together better then what this was and just heavy of lard. Horchata was watered down and flavorless. Aroz en leche was pretty much all liquid I thought this was just some liquid or waterdown sauce nothing aroz en leche about it and that it was given to us by mistake. I thought maybe they gave my husband an horchata for their wait with the mistake they made with my order but not even sure what that was. Plantanos fritos were cooked in nothing but grease. Seems like this business the cook and staff are so disorganized and no love or passion which is sad and a waste of an establishment. I'm just waiting for my stomach to mess up with all this grease.
