We came here for the first time this weekend and are sad we haven't been coming here longer! We came in around 6:30 and there was plenty of room with no line, we did valet which was $10. We were sat immediately out on the patio and once we were sat the whole restaurant started to fill up. Definitely recommend the patio! The food came extremely fast and everything was hot and delicious! We ordered the shrimp and mushroom appetizers and what's not to love about those covered in butter and garlic. Lala's has been around a very long time, and their menu of Argentine specialties has become a staple: steaks and chicken prepared a variety of ways, sausages and other niche items are all appealing on the page, and arrive looking just about as good as you would have thought. The issue comes down to an unfortunate blandness. While the clientele at lunch was very mixed in terms of age, the food all seems like what you'd get at a place specifically geared towards seniors: looks good, tastes kind of like nothing much. I had opted for the Argentinian Chorizo Sandwich, replacing the advertised lettuce and tomato with grilled onions. The sausages were perfectly cooked, with a proper char outside and a plump juiciness inside. But the meat itself had very little flavor; nothing to distinguish it at all from the bread it rested on. The accompanying fries were likewise properly cooked, with a pleasing crisp -- and likewise had no seasoning at all. I added table salt, of course, but that's not the same as having them dusted with a chef's salt right out of the fryer. Salad was salad, fresh and crispy, but the dressing, again, was non-descript. Lastly, their Chimichurri (fresh and herbaceous) lacked a proper hit of garlic or spice, or both. When I asked for hot sauce, I was offered Tabasco (which isn't the right flavor profile for Argentine food) or a Spicy Chimichurri for an extra $2. I splurged on the extra, and it turned out to be the tastiest part of the meal; a robust, earthy sauce with layered flavors and a welcome punch of heat. When it comes to the ambiance itself, the restaurant is quite comfortable, with relaxing lighting and a laid-back feel. They've also taken a good deal of care to curb the bright sunlight pouring in through their many windows, which is an effort that must be appreciated. The bathrooms, however, could really use an overhaul. As soon as you enter the corridor everything changes: the restroom doors are beaten up and dirty; inside, the polished decor disappears and one is greeted by a grungy, industrial floor, beaten up stall doors badly in need of new paint (yes, there is some graffiti), and fixtures that seem to be left over from whatever establishment was on this spot when it was first developed. Feels like you're in the bathroom at a dive music venue, and that feels wrong. One final thought: the parking in this corner of Studio City has always been tough, and there aren't enough spots on the street and in the little lot to accommodate the restaurant itself, much less the other businesses that share the small strip center. Mandatory valet was instituted some time ago, and I agree that's the best solution -- but a $10 fee at lunch also seems out of proportion. Maybe at dinner time, with $5 at lunch? That would seem better, especially if you have to pay $2 to get the good Chimichurri. read more

We had the NY champignon steaks which had a mushroom sauce, grilled zucchini and mashed potatoes. This had excellent flavor as well. Lastly for dessert we had the crepe and flan, both had whipped cream and dulce de Leche which was a perfect end to the meal. Price: 5/5 - DineLA price was an extreme value at $25 per person for a prefixes menu. We added drinks as well as the morcilla sausage. The regular menu prices were also very reasonable. Id definitely like to try it post DineLA. Service: 5/5 - excellent service overall. I made reservations, and we were seated right away. Server was helpful, kept our water and drinks full without hesitation. Friendly and not overbearing. She gave us time to enjoy food and the food came out promptly and hot. Couldn't ask for more. Then stood at kitchen counter, idle. Busboy came by twice, each time happy and asking if ok, need anything. Nice friendly personality. Beard guy, take some lessons.... We came here for my best friends post-wedding dinner. Lots of great service, good drinks, and great food. The steak was my favorite but I also LOVED the chicken. I'm also a big salad person, and the side salad was a great side to all the meat. They also had yummy rice, French fries, mashed potatoes, and more. Salad was my favorite side though. My absolute favorite steak place in the valley! The price is great for the quality and the staff is always extremely attentive and kind. My go-to is the Lomo Lala, filet mignon and mushrooms covered in the most incredible red wine white sauce. I know they have the chimichurri bottled, but if I could take home a jar of that sauce I 1000% would. The costilla is also incredible and if you want a larger size they have the costilla grande. You know when something is good, you continue to go. This place has been our go to for so many events and memories for years. Entrees, the shrimp penne pasta with a choice of different sauce. I went with the cream sauce. Wore white so had to be careful. The sauce was great and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. Also pasta was perfect. And the al Champignon, chicken breast topped with sautéed mushrooms in a light red wine cream sauce. That was served with two sides. Went with the mashed potatoes and their rice. The food has always been amazing. The flavors are always on point. Everything's alway cooked perfectly. Some of our favorites, the empanadas. Any of them will not disappoint. Plus the sautéed mushrooms, that's also a must for a starter. Then you have the platter of meat perfect for sharing. If you like meat, give it a try. I want to make sure right from the beginning, those 2 stars are for the wonderful and kind waitress we had. She did her very best to make things right. Nevertheless. We haven't been to Lala's for quite some time and looked forward to going there for dinner. We thought the place was open until 11:00, but it turned out they closed at 10:00 on Sunday. But when I called for a reservation and asked for a table for 2 at 9:30, nothing was said that the place was closing at 10:00. Only the second time we called, because we thought we might run late, we were told that the kitchen would close at 9:30! And they close at 10:00. But we made sure we can still come at 9:30 and will get our food. That already made me quite uncomfortable, having to rush and knowing the kitchen staff is ready to clean up the kitchen for the night, and us showing up at that time. I also worked in the restaurant business and know how it is. Anyway, when we got there, 2 other tables were occupied. One table with 2 persons, the other one with one guest. The waitress was very nice indeed, and we made sure to ask her if it was not too late for us to eat here. My spouse ordered a Beyond burger with fries, and I ordered a 12 oz NY steak with fries, medium. We got our drinks, and after a while, our food was brought to the table. It looked quite good. My spouse was quite happy with his meal. The fries were fantastic. But when I cut into my steak, I knew it was well beyond medium. First, I thought, maybe it is just the edges. But it was quite tough to even cut it. But I was hungry, I knew they were ready to close, and it wasn't uneatable. After 2 or 3 bites ( my spouse already noticed and said I should send it back), the waitress came by and asked how everything was. That is when I told her politely what the problem is and she totally agreed with me. She came back with a plate, took my steak, and said she would bring a new one as soon as possible. I had no issue with that. When she came back, that steak looked even larger than the one I had before. Nice. The first cut, I could tell it was perfectly done. But after a few cuts,s I noticed that 1/3 of the steak around it was mostly inedible gristle. Hard and chewy. That was a major downer. But I certainly wasn't going to make a fuss and have it sent back at that time any longer. I can understand mistakes happen. But twice in a row with the same dish with the same customer? No! It was just very disappointing having these kinds of steaks served at Lala's. No matter how late it is. This is unacceptable. It certainly isn't what I remember how Lala's used to be. But as I said in the beginning, the waitress was wonderful. It certainly is not her fault to be responsible for the so-called " chefs" in that kitchen. For the empanadas, I recommend. The cheese/onion (fried) was good but could have had more onion IMHO. The beef peccadillo was tasty, and the chicken was even better. (Baked). One of them came slightly underbaked. I had the lomito sandwich, and it was a tad disappointing. I liked the press on the bread for some crispiness, but the steak was chewy, and under-seasoned. The staff were very friendly and prompt. They bring you bread and chimichurri when you sit down. Our waiter was also very knowledgeable about the menu and gave us good recommendations. We ordered 2 x entrana al ajo, a mousse chocolate cake and a flan. The entrana comes with two sides and all the portions are big. The mash potatoes was one of the best i have had in a while. My absolute standout -- and the thing I recommend to literally everyone -- is their ham & cheese empanada. I've tried empanadas all over LA, and this one still wins. Every. Single. Time. If you're splitting starters with another salad lover, the Melrose and Ventura salads are the perfect combo. Fresh, balanced, and big enough to share without feeling like you're fighting for the last leaf. I have come to Lala's every once in a while. I've also ordered it online for delivery. What I like is the Pechuga Dijon (Chicken with a dijon white wine sauce). I sat at the bar and ordered it. Wow, when did Lala's become such a terrible dining experience? I used to come here a lot about 18 years ago and it used to be pretty decent. I had a recent experience that left me feeling ripped off and disrespected. I hadn't been back in ages and wanted to bring my partner on a special night out so I was super excited to come here after so long. Unfortunately, I now have a serious medical condition in which I can't eat certain foods and I need to eat specific foods in a certain order. I thought it should be fine here because steak and vegetables, how hard can it be? We both ordered the Entraña. It comes with a little salad and a more substantial side, none of which are safe for me to eat. I asked if I could substitute the potatoes for vegetables and they said only with a four dollar upcharge. That was pretty annoying, as already the skirt steak is $36 but fine. I really needed the vegetables and I assumed it would be a good amount of vegetables. When the meal arrived, there were four total pieces of assorted vegetables, crudely sliced. I bit into them and they were almost entirely raw. They were not seasoned, not flavored, just probably thrown onto the fire for one minute. They were too big of pieces to warrant such little cooking time. I would have considered eating it anyway because I don't like to make a scene but they were not the kind of vegetables that you could just eat cold and raw (like eggplant), nor should you have to at that price. It took 15 minutes to flag down the waitress and I showed them to the her and said they weren't cooked. she made me give them back, like she took them off my plate, which I thought was a little bit bizarre. Like OK I'm not trying to get steal vegetables from you, calm down. But I thought OK maybe she wants to show them to the kitchen. I told her that I have a medical condition and that eating out is a rarity for me and I need to eat the vegetables before I eat any other food or else I can't digest. I said they were pretty coarsely chopped and I requested that they be cut a little bit smaller next time so they can be actually cooked through. I assumed they would just make me another batch of vegetables and bring it out so I could actually finish my meal together. It took another 20 minutes for her to come back with the new vegetables. THEY GAVE ME BACK MY SAME VEGETABLES!!! Are you kidding me with this? I have never ever experienced this. I don't even know if it's allowed under food safety issues to take food that I ate back into the kitchen. cook it again on who knows what pan and then bring it back out. It's four pieces of vegetables why wouldn't you just make a new one? The food cost is pennies to the dollar for the upcharge. By then I had eaten half of my steak and I was trying to save the other half. My poor partner was eating slowly and her own food was cold too. And she felt bad eating without me. I flagged down the waiter again (which took another 10-15 minutes) and asked her why they returned my same vegetables to me again undercooked. I directly asked for an actual fresh batch and if they could please bring it out immediately and please for the love of god, cut them so they cook through. She took them back again off the table without saying anything and BROUGHT THE SAME ONES BACK AGAIN! What??? When I asked her what was happening, she shrugged me off and said that the kitchen told her they were fresh. They clearly were not. It was the same vegetables. I wish I had taken a picture, but I did not expect to be gaslit in what is supposed to be considered a nice restaurant. At this point, the rest of our food was so cold and the entire time at this place was spent chasing down this stupid plate of vegetables. We finished eating and ran across the street to the Trader Joe's to get more food. As someone with a food related disability, I am disgusted at this experience. In a world where there are so many choices of restaurants in this area, I am livid at having spent $100 to be disrespected like this. At this point, the waitress should've escalated it and comped our checks but she didn't even give us the dignity of acknowledging the situation. This was a horrible dining experience, just by regular restaurant patron standards. But it felt like pouring salt in the wound to someone for whom eating out is a rarity. Lala's is not hospitality or quality. There are so many places to get a better steak, especially that have front and back house staff that treat you like a person who deserves a good meal that they pay a premium for. The atmosphere is loud, crowded, with no actual ambiance. The steak is very average. And the hospitality is garbage. There's nothing worth it about this place. Go somewhere else. read more

I ordered steak and mashed potatoes today. Delivered. This was, by far, the worst meal I've ever had from a restaurant. The steak was all fatty and the mashed potatoes were not edible--they were water. Couldn't even eat with a spoon. I've ordered from them before. Never again. read more
