What happened? I was a fan of this place, but my recent visit I ordered a burrito, which I normally get, but haven't since this pandemic came up. I have to say, I was disappointed. It says it is beef with rice, but it should have said it was rice with 3 small pieces of beef. Literally. After a couple of bites, I was like "where is the beef?" I know it is not Wendy's or any other burger joint, but, come on Takatis....during this time you should be attracting customers not chasing them away. I am not saying to put more meat, just keep it the same. I will come back after the pandemic. I still expect the same value for what I pay for. This place sucks!!! First I ordered a big catering order that wasnt on time when i arrived. Second the order was not completed as agreed when order was placed. Third the guy at counter 06/06/2017, was a complete asshole when i discussed that order wasnt complete as when placed. He stated that whomever took my order was wrong and he couldnt keep their side of bargain... which is totally fucked up since they asked to pay in full when placing order... My catering business suffered because the incompetence from the people running this business and their incompetence to do their jobs. The BEST Peruvian food in the valley! Their chicken is fresh and delightful. When I first tried this place I kept going back and just ordering lomo saltado. However the staff encouraged me to try their different entries and I was not disappointed yet. So far I have tried their chicken, the pollo saltado, the Saltado burrito and lomo saltado with linguini. All of them were mouth watering. Usually it's hard to find parking in Van Nuys but they plenty of parking. The Resturant is clean and the service is fast. Don't forget to order their purple drink! Don't waste your time. I wanted to support local businesses during this time so I placed an order online. I drove 20 minutes to pick up my order, the door was closed and the person inside said to wait 5 minutes. I waited, they opened the door and I told then I placed an order online for pickup. I gave the person my name, she never said anything and after waiting 10 minutes, I asked if she had my order and she said no. There was one other person who entered when I did to pick up an order and they claimed they did not have her order either. Horrible service! When you order an hour before they close and they tell you that your order is on it's way, then you get a call from Grubhub saying that someone else took your order and it's been an hour waiting but they tell you that they would remake the food. Ehhh.. not the best tasting peruvian chicken.. A little too soggy for me, I like mine crispy on the skin. The chicken itself had like a pinkish dark color. Absolutely one of the best Peruvian restaurants in Los Angeles. I am from New York and every time I visit I always settle for fast food restaurants like In-n-out, Jack in the box and etc. It was time I tried something different and I'm glad I did. I had ceviche and pollo a la brasa and they were both completely delicious! The food was brought out in a timely manner. The owner was very polite and respectful. The food is good, hence 2 stars. We got arroz chaufa con mariscos which was really good, and lomo saltado which was average. The biggest issue with this place though is the wait. The food takes a loooong time. We waited an hour for our food. And, they don't give you bread or anything while you wait. We came really close to pay for our sodas and leave. In all honesty, we would not be coming back here. Food is decent, and the prices while on the higher end are not outrageous. However, there are lots of places in LA where they have better Peruvian food, and you don't have to wait an hour for your food. We will be going to those. read more

There is something to be said about the level of customer service at this place. They go out of their way to provide an excellent dining experience from the moment you walk in with an honest greet and when you exit they welcome you back, in such an eloquent and organic way. The best Peruvian food I have ever had. I've been to quite a few different spots now and Takatis keeps me coming back. Now that they have expanded and the dining area is 3 times as big with nice modern rustic decor it feels like a true world class dining experience. I always order to lomo Saltado because it's my favorite but there are a lot of options on the menu that are delicious. It is a family run business and you can tell by the quality of the ingredients that they use. Never have I bit into a piece of meat that had nerves or anything nasty. They have new staff that are attentive and make you feel welcomed. The owner Greg is always very inviting and attentive regardless of how busy it gets. The wait can take a little long and that's okay, can't rush quality. Be sure to order ahead of time or plan accordingly in case the chef needs to put that extra SAZONNN on your plate. I almost always order takeout via phone or through grubhub and it's been rare that my order has actually been ready on time but I don't mind waiting a bit. I've driven by this place nearly everyday since it opened. Just recently, I was walking by and was enticed by the smell of food being cooked with wood. I didn't know that it was a Peruvian restaurant until that day. I almost went in but kept waking. The next day, I decided to go in and try some Peruvian and boy am I glad I did. I had half a chicken, fried plantains and a salad. They sauces they have are spicey and tasty. I don't know what they put on their chicken but it is good. I hate to leave such a terrible review for a Peruvian-owned (hopefully) place, but as a Peruvian (born and raised) I am just very disappointed. I recently moved to the Valley and was delighted to see there were several Peruvian restaurants close to my new place. I decided to try Takatis out after reading some good reviews. I ordered take out through Postmates. When I arrived, my order was not ready (even though it said it was ready in the app). I only waited about 15 minutes though and the lady who helped me was very nice. I was very excited to get home and eat food that would remind me of home. I ordered pollo saltado (stir fried chicken) - which came with fries and rice, papa a la huancaína (potatoes with a cheesy pepper sauce, comes with a hard boiled egg), an alfajor (cookie with dulce de leche) and an Inca Kola (yes I was pretty hungry lol!). -First off, I can't eat beef so that's why I ordered the pollo saltado rather than the lomo saltado. Much to my surprise when I got home, they made me the latter. I could not eat it, obviously, and it was really disappointing. In my receipt it said "pollo saltado", and the lady confirmed with me that it was indeed pollo saltado as she tied the bag. This was really annoying! -The fries were in there with the lomo saltado so they came extremely soggy. I would recommend for future takeout or delivery orders that they pack them separately with the rice. -The broth that the saltado comes with I have to say was pretty tasty. That was a positive. -Papa a la huancaína is my FAVORITE Peruvian dish, and the one I miss the most. They make it at my house in Peru all the time, and is the first thing I order at a restaurant when I go back home. I was VERY disappointed with this. I'm about to go on a rant... The sauce was very liquid-y (it almost seemed like a soup when I opened the box!!), very spicy (I know LA has a Mexican influence, but this is a PERUVIAN restaurant), and little to no flavor. This sauce is supposed to be thicker, flavorful and just a kick to it. You can go to any authentic Peruvian household in Peru and they would never make it like this. Any Peruvian restaurant there, even. For example, Gaston Acurio's (one of the top Peruvian chefs) restaurant Panchita - their huancaina sauce has a kick but is not super spicy, it's thick, it has a great flavor profile and this is like the worst knock off version you could find of that. I would suggest that the chef takes a look at the recipe again, or goes back home to Peru to get back into his roots because it was unacceptable. Sorry this is coming off super mean but I'm just so upset - I miss food from home so much and I can't believe someone would claim this is a good papa a la huancaína. My family, and any Peruvian chef worth their s**t, would be horrified. -The alfajor (the big one they sell by itself) was also extremely terrible. Just cakey and with no flavor, I threw it away after a couple bites. If there is so much trouble with making alfajores, I highly suggest purchasing the alfajor making kits from Casa del Alfajor. They sell them at any Peruvian grocery store in Lima, Peru, or I think you can probably find on Amazon or another online shop. You can make them with the kits and sell them that way - they are delicious and a no-brainer. I'm not sure what this was but it wasn't an alfajor... Now, I have only been here once and I have only tried these specific menu items. Maybe the other things are good, I don't know. But based on this experience, I would not come back and would urge my fellow Peruvians to avoid this place and take their business elsewhere. I am a proud Peruvian and this experience just made me very sad. I hope this place improves, and then I will come back for some delicious food that will remind me of Lima. read more

I got a recommendation for the Sanguchon at Takatis so I decided to order it to go during a work day. They said it would take about 20 minutes but we ended up waiting so it took about 30 minutes total. The sanguchon was really delicious. It's a messy sandwich with chicken, egg, veggies, sauce, and a thin slice of sweet potato. I would recommend that you keep the wrapper on as you eat. They give you these green and orange sauces. The orange one is spicier but didn't have great flavor. I really enjoyed the flavor on the green. One of my coworkers tried their chicken and said it was delicious. The chicken was well-seasoned and the meat was very moist. They just weren't too crazy about the sauces. They give you 2 sides for a half chicken. The plantain was especially good. If I could, I would order a big order of plantain by itself. They have Peruvian sodas and I always get Inca Cola when I eat Peruvian food. You can get a big bottle here or just the can. read more

Three words: Lomo Saltado Burrito. Admittedly this is the only item on the Takatis menu I have tried, but I seriously can not move past it. This is my favorite burrito in Los Angeles, and I say that having eaten too many burritos to mention. This burrito is basically the lomo saltado dish wrapped into a burrito. Tender, perfectly seasons chunks of steak, thick cut fries, rice and sautéed red onions are tenderly wrapped in a large flour tortilla. The result- Andrea's favorite burrito. *Personal story: in grad school- this was the one light at the end of the tunnel when I was writing my thesis. I am so loved that I actually had a loved one willing to drive from Van Nuys to Long Beach with this burrito to help fuel my all nighters. I am a lucky girl- I know. DO NOT COME HERE WITH A GROUPON!! I have never been treated soo rudely in my life while using a Groupon. Ive been using Groupons for at least the last 4 years, and this has been the worst experience ever! Ive used groupons all over Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena, Alhambra, Silverlake and Los Feliz, well apearantly this low budget establishment in Van Nuys (across the street from a swampmeet) is not familiar with the concept of Groupon and will impose rules not included in the fine print in order not to honor the Groupon. First they said there was a restriction on the time it can be used, which was not listed anywhwere on the Groupon, only days were listed. I was told told I had to have a hard copy of the Groupon...another thing not mentioned when I purchased the deal. I am writing this review because I was completely ignored when I walked in. No greeting. No smile or hello. No I will be right with you. A Latino couple walked in 5 minutes after me and the young lady quickly sat them at a table and gave them menus instead of taking my order. I felt that they didn't want my business so I walked out. There is no excuse for bad service or ignoring customers. Let me be clear that this review is NOT based on their food, but their lack of service and fairness with customers. Not only did this place lack service, but it looked filthy. To me, even if the food is great based on these four- and five-star reviews, I will not tolerate bad service. I definitely will not be back. There is another Peruvian restaurant down the street called Puro Sabor which I usually go to which looks much cleaner and provides a better and more attentive dining experience every time I dine there. THEY DO NOT ACCEPT GROUPONS! BEWARE I bought a groupon and went the same day to try the food. The fine print said dine in only. So we sat down and ordered papa rellena, lomo saltado and tacu tacu. We also tried the chicha and horchata to drink. Food was good, the portions were decent and so was the taste. It went downhill once the bill came. There was only one guy who took orders, was the waiter/host/busboy. So he took a while to come to the table for anythinfg. They really should have more employees working during dinner time. I showed him the groupon and immediatetly he said they were no longer accepting groupons. He said that they had told the company already that they did not want to deal with the groupons, but Groupon themselves dont want to take the business off their website. Umm weird..Well...thats not my fault, and i only came to get dinner because of the discount. I told him that if i had known i wouldnt have bothered on buying the groupon. He said that there was nothing he could do. He actually said: " we dont gain anything by having those groupon discounts" umm yea you do, you get new customers and exposure to future business. What kind of customer service is that? The guy obviously realized that he was wrong, and he gave me what i paid for the groupon as a discount on the bill. I paid like $12 for $20 worth of food.
