Being a fast casual taco place, I had my assumptions about the food quality. Chipotle immediately comes to mind but after tasting it, speaking Chipotle in the same sentence would be an insult. I noticed on the menu they have locally sourced meat, which is exceptional quality. I got the Cowboy and Sirloin queso fundido tacos. Each one had a different cut of beef, and unlike the Chipotles of the world, each taco had a clear and distinct taste, starting with the meat. I'd recommend this establishment to anyone in the area looking for fast, cheap and high quality food. I aim to go back and try the short rib taco. read more

This spot was perfect for our bachelor party after a night of drinking! It was a short walk from our hotel, it had air conditioning and the food was fantastic! I ordered the Jess special with bacon, migas, cowboy, sirloin frontera fundido and the pork belly. All were good, but my favorite was the cowboy and pork belly. Least favorite was the sirloin frontera fundido. It wasn't bad, but it was like steak fajitas and nothing unique. Will definitely recommend and will go again! read more

The food was ready quickly. we had the Freakin' Vegan Tacos, street taco size with a choice of flour or corn tortillas, black beans, pico and a slice of avocado. Dropped in for breakfast and got the Otto and Migas. Both were freaking awesome. I never thought a taco with black beans, bacon and avocado would be so tasty for breakfast but it was outstanding. They also had some pink drink (sorry can't remember the soda) that was perfect as it was sort of tart and not super sweet like a lot of the other sodas. So I was at this location (Congress St.) yesterday 3/11/21. While waiting on my order, I observed a worker with gloves on put some trash in a garbage can with gloves on. Push the trash down and into the can with said gloves. Then proceed to go over to the salsa vat that had a dipper/pitcher in the salsa. He then stuck his gloved hand (cross contamination from the garbage can) down into the vat of salsa that had the pitcher laying in it and commenced to filling up to go containers with salsa. Where is the training on this people?!?! You CANNOT go from the garbage can to the salsa vat and you sure as hell cannot be leaving the pitcher/dipper laying in the salsa. Geez!!! Love the wide variety of creative menu choices but the execution could be much better. The corn tortillas are slightly on the dry side and the salsas are just ok. The Mexico City taco (meat, onion, cilantro) doesn't taste like real Mexico City style tacos. They are good but just taste like American style sirloin meat and just lack something - hard to describe but it's just 3/5 for me. Also... need cervezas with my tacos. I have trust issues with this place, I eat here a lot but I'm tired of being surprised by things I didn't ask for in my taco. I normally get a papas, bean, and cheese or a bean and cheese and for whatever reason, I always end up with a few crunchy pieces of bell pepper mixed in. This taco is already goo-ey to begin with and then to just hear and taste a crunch is soooo nasty, it also ruins the flavor of the whole taco and makes it taste like vomit in my mouth. The worst business downtown with very unprofessional employees, if you met the morning manager you would see why the employees are horrible. I work in the building and sometimes have last minute request for breakfast so its convenient, and that is the ONLY reason I order from this tacodeli DT Austin. They NEVER mark the tacos they mark the bags with numbers that look like letters and I am supposed to figure out which is which taco. It could be a simple process but the laziness of the employees apparently don't think its worth the seconds it would take to at least mark the bags with legible numbers. I can only hope one day they hire a manager that actually cares about the customers and not question and try to embarrass them when they have an issue in front of a restaurant full of people. So very rude with disgusting customer service skills. Downtown Austin is a professional setting with many companies that pay a lot of money to order food with little to no hassles, you wont get hassle free service at tacodeli on Congress. read more

I have just experienced the worst bite of food in my life. I ordered the Friday Special Guacasabi Tuna Taco for lunch, and I can only blame myself for taking such a risk. Immediately upon the first bite an overwhelming wasabi-bleach taste punches you in the tongue. Let me qualify this statement by saying that I LOVE wasabi on sushi. It was the bleach taste that made me recoil and stare deeply into the bite that I took in wonderment at how something could be served that tasted SO BAD. I would never tell you that you shouldn't go to taco deli. It serves it's purpose as generally fast, mediocre tacos. Instead, I CHALLENGE you to go try this taco and tell me I am crazy for hating it. Ok so taco deli is always pretty good when it comes to the food. Not gonna lie. But this location in particular rubbed me the wrong way. I ordered ahead of time to assure an easy pickup process and headed over. When I got there, there's no real parking (which is to be expected downtown). That's fine, I just needed to run in and grab my food, so I park on the side street and go to the front. There's a sign out front saying to call when you arrive for to go orders, but then there's chairs all over with signs that say to text that phone number. BUT there's a sign on the door saying to come on in for to go orders... So I try to walk in and there's a plastic barrier stopping me from walking to the "to go" area.. I was just super confusing. I texted the number to say I had arrived, but just got back a taco emoji... No real instructions or ETA on food. It's fine, I eventually got my food and explained to the employee that the signs may be confusing to people, and he just said that's the old sign and the new sign...? Pretty much manspained the signs to me. He said you can do either. But one literally says stay outside and one literally says come in but the door is blocked. It's not his fault obviously but I feel like he was annoyed at my confusion.. no apologies for inconvenience or anything. I just expected a kinder and more organized service since im paying 5$+ for a single taco... read more
