"Unagi" Roll & caterpillar roll. There's no eel, just fat.
Wendy K.

I've been coming here for years. In 2018 the quality was impeccable. High quality salmon & fish. Fast forward, since 2020/2021 every time we've come the quality has been extremely inconsistent and never better than just okay. Unfortunately this is only sushi spot in walking distance from me, so if I want something sushi a lot of days, this is my option. I keep trying because I want it to be good SO BAD. Alas, the salmon is smelly, chewy... the sushi is just bad. There's no excusing it. Apparently I'm a gluten for punishment because I decided to give it one more try. I got an eel roll and caterpillar roll because eel based rolls felt safe. Well, there was basically no eel. What was there was 99% fat. The rolls were disgusting. There's no excuse for this. I'm finally done being disappointed. I won't be back.

Unbelievable quality at a great value. Super Service by Jose! Definitely recommended and have a raspberry iced tea to accompany your food!

My friend and I were in the area, wanted to grab a quick lunch, saw this place tucked in the corner of the strip mall and thought to try. Atmosphere was OK, nothing special, bar in the front, seating in the middle and sushi bar at the end. Alejandro was our server. He was nice, friendly and attentive. We ordered a couple Sapporo and Sushi. We had Uni, Tuna Belly, Salmon, Smelt Eggs, Eel and Yellowtail Nigiri plus a Lunch special Roll Combo A + B. I couldn't put my finger on it, but the sushi was neither bad or good, just was sorta of blah tasting. Maybe blah like the presentation too. Atmosphere: OK. Food: OK. Service: very good.

Service and food are great! We were staying in Carlsbad and came here because someone at work recommended Sushi Lounge.

The service was good. I sat at the bar and Josh had helped me. He was very friendly and very quick and efficient at taking my order. The servers were also good at checking in on me to make sure I was good. Ambience was good. Nice and spacious place that was kept clean. It's a bit dark inside, but not a big deal. I liked how it wasn't very loud and I could spend time reading my book. I had the crispy rice appetizer, which I was surprised was cold. The rice was clearly not fried freshly. I ordered two rolls: happy wife and the Tasmanian. Both excellently made and with good portion size! I would definitely come again, but just would maybe consider trying a different app next time.

Some friends invited me to dine here and they were mortified by how terrible the service was. It took only a few minutes to be sat but 10 for our server to greet us. It was an excellent marker for how our evening was going to be. It took a total of 2 hours and 17 minutes to dine here. While waiting we were watching other tables receiving attentive service from other servers, and we were even able to watch our server (Jose) chat with friends at a table next to us for quite a while. Throughout our people watching, we noticed there were two other tables who also complained to the manager. When he made his round to our table, he offered a free dessert and corrected nothing. We had orders that were forgotten, should be rang in as well as the orders that came incorrectly. Well, I'm sure the manager was overwhelmed. There was nothing happening to correct the situation for anyone, and it ended up being a very long dragged out experience of dissatisfaction. My friends tell me that they've never had such an awful experience. However, I spent enough time there to register more than one. I 100% do not recommend this place while management struggles to maintain a level of service at this establishment.

The restaurant is cozy but clean and tidy. We had a special, the "Fresa" roll. "Fresa" means strawberry in Spanish and at first, I was totally turned off because fish and strawberries did not sound good but holy moly! This was the BEST roll I've ever eaten in my life. Would definitely visit again, and look forward to visiting in the future.

We specifically reserved seating at the bar hoping for a 'sushi bar' experience where you interact with the sushi chefs. Not the case here. There were four non-Japanese sushi chefs who otherwise spoke little to no English. Ordering was done through the waiters/waitresses. Disappointed in this. Typical sushi menu with traditional sashimi and nigiri as well as California-style creative rolls. Overall, the sushi here is good but nothing special. Also a typical drink menu. Sapporo on draft which is a plus! Decent sake menu by the carafe or by the bottle. Service was a bit slow for how few patrons there were. And it seemed like a lot of the chefs and servers were just standing around and talking. Not recommended if you're a sushi aficionado.

We went last night for my mom's birthday dinner and tried a few dishes we hadn't had before. The Wienerschnitzel was fantastic, as was the chuletón--a massive 32-ounce bone-in ribeye that was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. We also ordered several of our favorites: the patatas bravas, with perfectly crispy little squares of potato; the alcachofa, a delicious smashed artichoke with aioli and lemon; the olives, which are perfection every time; and the pan tomaquet con Ibérico--fabulous Ibérico ham served over tomato toast. For dessert, we tried the buñuelos, which reminded me of a lighter, airier version of a churro, and the crema catalana, similar to crème brûlée. Both were a great finish to the meal. Valentina manages to strike that perfect balance: casual enough to feel like a neighborhood spot you can visit all the time, but with food and service that make it feel special enough for a celebration. Another excellent dinner and definitely one of our neighborhood favorites. We usually sit at the bar but enjoyed the dining room this last time!

There's a wide assortment of seating, so smaller parties as well as larger groups and outdoor dining fans are all accommodated. The patatas are a unique version, one of the only potato paves I've seen in SD, topped with flavorful aioli and herbs that make this an enticing option. The gentleman's rice is crispy and full of a generous seafood assortment, but lacks the depth of flavor found in a truly top notch paella-style dish. Dessert menu is limited - would have been nice to see some sweet drink options like barraquito, Horchata or orujo.

The staff was moving quickly but stopped to check on us in passing. I'm all about two specific dishes. The TNT was so tasty. I loved the fried onions on top of the roll. I've never had anything like this. The onions weren't soft in the middle and fries on the outside. Such a great addition. As for the TROPICAL SEARED CARPACCIO, just woooow. It's not what I expected! It's like a nigiri but instead of rice it had imitation crab on the bottom. To top it all off it had cilantro and a tiny slice of lime on top. Yum, it was so fresh and delicious. I keep craving these guys! Can't wait to come back.

It wasn't too sunny and had a breeze. I don't know if it is everyday, but the bar downstairs had karaoke. The food was delicious and portions were big. The Beach Bum is their version of a spicy tuna on crispy rice. Each bite was a mouthful and it was delicious. I ordered their salmon skin roll, thinking it would be a small roll since I wasn't that hungry. Well, I struggle to finish it all. It was just too much for me. My daughter order the Tasha Combo 1. It says substitution, but my daughter is allergic to shrimp. They were able to swap it out with another salmon for an up charge. She enjoyed it a lot. We also got two Udon soups, which my wife and son liked a lot. My other daughter got the Salmon Teriyaki, which she loved. For the vegetarian, there is a good variety. The udon soup is vegetarian and we just got one without the fish cakes. We also got the fried tofu without the bonito flakes (which is fish). Overall, a very nice place for Japanese food. We definitely will come again.
