I was really in the mood for some sushi, and this place really let me down. This is a chain so maybe that's where I went wrong? Sometimes you luck out and sometimes you don't, I guess. I visited on a Friday before dinner rush, so I was seated really quickly which was nice. Happy Hour is only M-T just fyi. Their menu stated they had snapper so imagine my disappointment when they say they don't have it. Strike 1. They show a delicious unfiltered sake on their menu. They also don't have it. Strike 2. My table orders a plethora of things off their menu: samurai jack roll, spicy tuna roll, yellowtail, salmon, eel. All the good stuff. It wasn't bad, but it was not that great either. It could have been fresher, and the spicy tuna roll could have been- I don't know- spicy? The wasabi was also not spicy at all. Strike 3. Our server was really nice, and she was doing her best, but she couldn't tell us what kind of sake she had available and so we ended up with a peach sake. Not bad but not what we wanted. I just don't see myself coming back.

I was craving sushi, and decided to give this place a try. Parking was pretty easy as I found a spot right in front. I was here during lunch on a Monday, so that may have helped. The staff were welcoming which is always appreciated. I really liked that one of their lunch special options let you choose 3 half speciality rolls. Which was different and provided a unique way to sample a variety....plus it came with miso, a salad and wontons. I tried the amigo, Hawaiian, and yellow yolo rolls. My favorite was the yellow yolo, it had spice level that I was looking for. The other 2 were just ok. Wasn't a big fan of the salad due to the dressing they put on it, and the wonton had meat so didn't try that either. Overall, decent lunch spot if you're in the area.

I've been to Sapporo on a handful of occasions. Every time I'm here, I'm always impressed with the service and quality of food. We sat outside on the patio enjoying the summer breeze through the trees. Our server was helpful and accommodating despite the busy evening and new server training that night. We ordered beverages, some appetizers, and a couple rolls right away. Some of us needed a few minutes to decide what rolls we wanted to eat. I tried the Steeler Roll which was really tasty. Crab, shrimp tempura, avo inside and salmon, lemon, and some dressing on top. Next time I will get the dressing on the side, it was good but the bottom of the roll absorbed the dressing and was a little too much for me. The hamachi nigiri was really tasty. I love the chopped green onion or chives that they add as a garnish. Looking forward to my next visit. Will it be take out or dine in?

Solid sushi rolls and great customer service! It was nice to he able to sit outside on a summer night and enjoy the food.

This is a very attractive restaurant with both indoor and patio seating. The menu is looooong. You will have a lot of options. There are plenty of sushi and non-sushi choices. For a starter, the garlic edamame is terrific. It has a ton of garlic flavor. We tried the "hot plates" which give you a lot of meat on a very hot sizzling platter (like a fajita platter, in fact). The hot platters come with sushi, rice, and salad on the side. You also receive a nice cup of miso soup. I went with the spicy pork plate but also sampled the chicken plate and the shrimp plate. All of the food was very good and you get a lot of it. You will not leave hungry, I assure you. I think I liked the shrimp plate the best. The shrimp were big and very flavorful. Service was terrific. All of the restaurant's employees were engaging and friendly. I will need to return to try more of the sushi. They offer numerous different sushi rolls, many of which are very creative, and the ones we saw looked beautiful.

    Lunch special for $26 only.

As a first time customer, I was curious to see what kind of service and quality sushi I would find here. I came early, practically when they opened on a Tuesday morning. Chill music was playing in the background and the weather was lovely so I opted for outside seating. I ordered the STSW roll/sandwich. I think after my first couple of bites I told the staff, "I feel like I'm in heaven right now." Yes, sushi heaven!! That sushi Sando is amazing. Everything I could want in a sushi roll, but better. I loved every aspect of this place. The service was great, ambience was relaxing, food was top notch. Most definitely coming back for date night or a quick "me time" get away lunch. Quick shoutout to Dustin for being kind, welcoming and approachable. This place is a gem! So happy I made the trip from Escondido. Worth it!

Excellent local spot for sushi and bento boxes! Loved the attentive, courteous service, and the spotless interior of this little restaurant in a great location. Incredible value for lunch specials--see menu for the restrictions. Happy we found this place and will be back soon!

Absolutely exquisite sushi and excellent dinner combo plates where you pick a meat and it comes with rice, a salad, and a California roll. My husband and I ordered several sushi rolls since we were celebrating his birthday. I don't remember the name of all the rolls we got but the ones I remember are the Lakers, Jessica Albacore, and the protein roll. The size of the rolls, the flavors, and the rice to fish ratio was perfect! If you aren't feeling for sushi they have those combo plates that I mentioned. Good portion size, cute presentation, and delicious. My mom and dad ordered the beef and salmon plate and they were very impressed with the taste and everything that came with it. Highly recommend this sushi spot!

I love this sushi place!!! I always have a great experience. I especially love the lunch special where you can pick half an order of 3 different special rolls for only $20! It also comes with soup, salad and little fried things. They have different and delicious choices. I highly recommend you come check it out.

Our party of two waited about 20 minutes on a Friday night with no reservation. It was quite busy that day with many other tables waiting to be sat. There are a lot of options on the menu, ranging from cooked items to sushi and rolls. After placing our order, it took only about 10 minutes before we received the first dish and everything else followed. We ordered a roll the sashimi set a hand roll and also a bowl of ramen. Their salmon and engawa was tasty, but I wouldn't say their fish is the freshest or have much flavor to them. Unfortunately, we had an issue with our spicy tuna roll (there was a piece of metal found inside). I'm sure it was just overlooked. But service was very friendly and accommodating. They immediately remade our roll and also provided some complementary dessert. The service here was quick and friendly. I appreciated it given how busy the restaurant was.

I can celebrate a friend's birthday, the first thing I noticed about this restaurant is that it was busy and full of people. That's the first sign that the sushi is delicious. I Found quite a few rolls in this restaurant's menu that I have never even heard of, so of course it made me want to try them. My first trip to Tabu Sushi was during the pandemic, and I don't remember enjoying it that much. But, I also attributed those faults to the take-out experience; nothing survives packaging, travel, and dining 30+ minutes after plating and still maintains its peak level of flavor. So, I vowed to eventually come back and give Tabu another shot. First off, I kind of dig the interior. For some reason, it gives me 80's vibes; Tech Noir, but with a few plants and higher ceilings. Dive bar sushi restaurants have always been a thing I've enjoyed, and Tabu just skirts that line. My son and I came here for dinner and they seated us close to the entrance, sunlight pouring through the windows in the late afternoon, making the atmosphere bright and open. I started with an Oyster Shooter, while not the best of these I've ever had, it still had that freshness to it, the hint of brine and citrus overtones, while not being too oily or fishy. Pretty good. My son did most of the ordering, supplying the table with a Dragon Roll, Baja Roll, and an Atlantic Sea Roll. These were all okay. Sometimes the fish used was mealy. Sometimes the technique was loose, causing the rolls to easily fall apart. But, each was still enjoyable with the tastes being satisfying, if not really overly impressive. The true surprise was the Bubba Gump Roll. The sautéed shrimp on top had a fantastic bite and delicious taste to them. And the mixture of avocado, lemon, cucumber, cilantro, and chili powder, all of it was a excellent blend of crunchy and smooth textures, spicy and cooler flavors, and fatty and acidic notes. After everything else we had sampled, I was not expecting something this good when I ordered it. Still, with as good as that roll was, it was not enough to elevate Tabu Sushi past a strong three stars in my eyes. Above average but only just. With as many other sushi restaurants nearby that I prefer, coming back here may not be in the cards for me. But, I would still say it's very much worth a try if you're nearby and hungry.
