Highlights for us were the pork belly skewer (perfectly grilled with great char and juicy texture), animal-lover ramen with its rich, creamy broth, and the miso hot ramen which had a nice spicy kick without being overpowering. I walked in to two women running this lovely place. I ordered for takeout ( I'm terrible with chop sticks and was HUNGRY). I needed space to slurp and smack. I ordered the Me So Hot Ramen and mizuna green salad because I was craving ramen and something spicy. The salad looked good so I ordered that as well. I got back to my hotel and assembled my meal. The ramen was GREAT! I clumsily used those chopsticks and drank the broth upon completion. I love ramen and my usual concern is lack of spice when the menu says spicy. Close to hotel so made a trip here. I probably should've ordered ramen since that's in their name but I went with gyudon (beef bowl). The staff was very nice and helpful. The place has a good number of seats/tables and the place is bright. The gyudon also came with miso soup. The gyudon (I mean the beef) was very similar to a chain beef bowl place. The flavor of the broth was good but there was too much broth so eating it with chopsticks was difficult so I ended up using the ramen soup spoon. read more

Meh... came in for lunch today. The dining room is super cute. And the waitress was really nice, but the food...Oishikunai yo!!! Totemo Mazui desu yo!!! If you don't speak/read Japanese the food was AWFUL. We ordered the Karaage, Miso Hot ramen, and Miso Delight ramen. The chicken karaage was more like shoe leather. It was so hard to eat, and flavorless. The ramen broths were tasty, but the pork and egg in the soup were both ICE COLD. And the ramen noodles were cut into very short little pieces. This is the ULTIMATE CARDINAL SIN of ramen noodles. They are meant to be very long strands, so that you can slurp them up with unbridled glee. Not these noodles-in-name-only. I seriously don't cut my 3 year old's spaghetti into strands as short as I had in my "soup" today. Having spent two years living, working, and eating in Japan, perhaps this makes me a little picky, but there is very excellent ramen in the North Country, and I will not be returning to Ramen Mik. read more

I have visited this place several times. First time was hopeful. What followed were good, OK and terrible. Lately, deterioration. It got so bad I told the owner. She was horrified and said she'll look into it. After that, I gave it two month, and returned. This one last time, the worst. The dish I am talking about is tonkatsu. Meat? Poor, thin and hard. The crust does not even stay on it. Deep fried inconsistently. It just does not even look appetizing. I always wonder who cooks this stuff. Does this person know what tonkatsu should look like? And to add insult to injury, the rice? Terrible. I don't know how they cook it. If you get decent rice and cook it properly in a Japanese rice cooker, you can't make bad rice. Yet, this one was cold and brittle. I am not sure if there is a Japanese person in the kitchen. If yes, he or she would be embarrassed to serve this dish. After getting burned so many times, it's time for me to finally severe ties with this place. No issue with service. In today's market, price is acceptable. Cleanliness? Pass. read more

I am so pleased that we tried this place! We got the fried rice and each tried the spicy ramen. The fried rice is amazing and I highly recommend it. It has those little charry, crispy bits we know and love in good fried rice. That with a runny egg on top would be my dream breakfast (or lunch...or dinner... or snack...). We came here the other night for some Ramen. I wanted to eat something a little bit mild because honestly, I had food poisoning a few days before and I was on the mend so I thought Ramen would be a really good thing. We found parking really easily. I know there's reviews that say parking can be a little tough which I could totally see as there are a lot of businesses in one place not that large of a lot so just know that we had good luck. we got in there. The place wasn't too packed yet. There was one waitress working and she was incredibly kind she let us choose wherever we wanted to sit and then brought us over some venues. We tried the potato croquettes that were on the special menu as an appetizer and then I had the show you Ramen and my husband had some fried rice. I think he thought the fried rice would be a little bit bigger, but it was really delicious. I think next time he would probably order a Ramen himself or one of their Katsu curries. The show you ramen was really delicious lots of umami flavor. Never had ramen with cabbage on top so that was new for me. It was really filling so my husband polished it off. We opted to skip dessert but I would totally come back here for ramen it's a cute little place with nice service and delicious ramen. read more

We ordered the chilled sake to share and some gyoza while we waited for our BST ramen. Music was jpop, customers were enjoying their food and ambience was tranquil. The gyoza was delicious along with the dipping sauce, but the star of the show was the BST ramen. The umami was outrageous, the noodles were al dente and bouncy, the egg was soft boiled and marinated, veggies were crunchy, (carrots and cabbage) meat was tender and well seasoned and the grated ginger on the side of the bowl gave a nice change of pace on every other bite. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm excited to have a ramen place so close by with this quality. 10/10 recommend. Bill came out to $58 before tip. read more

This meal was so good that I had to go to the plaza's center quad and lay down. The karaage was perfectly crispy--cooked tenderly, with the sauce that was made so correctly that it beat out my distaste for most condiments. I would go back to literally just have the karaage once I start going to CSUSM. But the ramen... oh, where do I even start! Noodles--handmade. Cooked to literal perfection. You could tell because the noodles did not have a slimy aftertaste. The spice gave me a nice kick and I could actually feel it rippling my tastebuds; and not just "spicy because there's so much salt." Stir fried greens. And I loved every second of it. But imagine--pork chashu so tender that it's collapses like a silk sheet with the weight of your chopsticks... my mouth is watering again from how much I miss it. I am definitely going back to try more of their menu. Serena was a sweetheart. Gave me great recommendations for the chicken karaage--and the interior design was humble and lovely. I went to visit some cousins in North County, and I heard about this little Ramen spot that specialized in Hokkaido style Ramen. Which is a region in Northern Japan. There's plenty of parking. There's a fun little ambience inside the restaurant when you walk in with some interesting art on the walls. You can also watch the cooks put your ramen together. The servers are very polite, and informative about their menu. If you have any questions at all they're right there to help. I definitely recommend keeping a sharp eye on their seasonal specials menu, because wow, I am very impressed. I tried the BTS ramen, INCREDIBLE BROTH, noodles, toppings, presentation. It really hit all the check marks and then some. My cousin ordered the menchi Katsu Curry. Super delicious!! I'll post the menus in the photos with the details. What a find we stumbled across! To be totally honest I was not expecting anything super authentic, especially a Japanese ramen place, seeing as a couple doors down was a large Japanese restaurant that was busy, but totally didn't strike me as authentic either. Turns out this is as authentic as it can get, the Japanese owners were actually there, working and training staff, which made me actually excited! According to their staff, they were getting ready to open another location in Escondido!! The place had a chill vibe, casual and fun, with J-pop playing in the background. The murals on the walls were totally awesome too, especially the one with Godzilla in the background, lol! Staff here were welcoming and friendly, so I'm not sure what the other review meant about poor service! They were helpful in answering questions, they checked in on us, as well as other customers, and were efficient and fast! The menu was quite funny too, they definitely had a sense of humor! I ordered the "Show You" ramen, and my husband ordered their pork ginger, which came with a rice bowl as well as some miso soup. We also ordered the gyozas, and that did not disappoint - Well done, crispy and the flavor was right on the money from those we've tasted in Japan! The ramen noodles had a great chewy texture, and the broth was tasty. I personally would have liked menma or seasoned bamboo shoots, but they didn't have that. They had a GREAT Dashi egg though, and onions and a little cabbage, plus seaweed. This is a very small ramen joint in a strip mall but the ramen is darn good and the decor is pretty cool. The service is meh but whatever. We tried the chicken karaage appetizer and, while it was deeply fried, it was plenty flavorful. The menui is filled with corny luns. It's nice to see they don't take themselves too seriously. The Show You ramen has a soy sauce base and it's very good. The Me So Hot is spicy. In fact, it's very spicy. It's a great dish for heat-lovers but your nose may run a little. They've got lots of soft drink choices and they also have beer and sake. And everyone gets a big vat of San Marcos's finest tap water. I drank almost the whole bottle to avoid third degree burns from the spicy Me So Hot. The parking lot can get a little busy but it's free so no complaining. The best ramen in SD! My husband and I have been trying many different ramen places, but Ramen MIK is the top of the top so far. They even imported ramen noodles from Hokkaido Japan.
