    Shoyu Ramen
    Mindy O.

Nice new and inviting ambiance with half booth seating. It was more spacious inside than it looked from outside. The lanterns and the Japanese writing on the wall were a cliche decor but alright. The service was OK/good. It's a neighborhood ramen option to get a Japanese food fix in a pinch. They have udon, bowls, curry and other goodies. They only have one sushi roll on the menu. Shoyu ramen was not real shoyu soup, but rather tonkotsu-based shoyu flavored soup. The flavor was bland, and as a shoyu ramen fan, it was disappointing. BBQ Pork Bowl was good but a bit too salty and had a distinctive Chinese five spice flavor which I didn't care for. Pork Katsu Plate came with a heap of rice. Katsu was nice and crispy but thin and a little stiff. I am not used to eating Japanese food with long grain fluffy kind of rice. It's usually short grain sticky rice. Messing with the rice is no good... We will probably stay away from the rice dishes next time.

I am a huge Ramen fan. I love these dishes, especially in the winter time and I really liked coming here because I had to have the fried chicken Ramen. I could've eaten 50 pounds of the fried chicken. It's done so well and the flavor is really good, but I chose to get the spicy miso base and Man was it delicious. I swear to God I could've eaten the stuff by the bucket. It is really comfortable seating in the parking is ample as a shared parking lot with a major grocery store so I have to give them credit. I love this place. I found it to be perfect but if you come in, be sure to ask about the slushy lol

This spot has been on my list of places to visit since I saw that it opened recently. One rainy day, I finally found myself here. We were promptly greeted and seated after walking in the door. The server was super friendly. We ordered pan fried dumplings, chicken katsu curry, the salmon bowl, and I ordered the fried chicken ramen from their specials menu. The pan fried dumplings were just perfect! They were tender but with juuust enough of a crisp on one side. My dad loved the curry, and my son was happy with his salmon bowl, although he did hand off his broccoli. My fried chicken ramen had a spicy broth that was just the perfect amount of heat. I added seaweed pieces and bok choy. I wasn't expecting for the chicken to come on the side, but I'm glad they thought ahead for the diner, so the chicken wouldn't get soggy while waiting to be eaten! The chicken comes as big pieces of karaage (GREAT Japanese fried chicken)! I would definitely visit this restaurant over and over again, to try out the rest of them menu, and you should, too!

Another great meal at our local Ramen joint. I like their smaller dishes, getting to mix and match. My kids love the udon noodles. My wife likes the Ramen. Service was wonderful. Our waitress took our order and repeated it for clarity. All items came out quick. Ambiance is on par with all Noodle shops. Today we noticed the desserts. The four of us shared the Yazu cheese cake and sesame balls. The Yazu wasn't too sweet or tart and the sesame balls were warm, both going well with the ice cream.

My family and I visited there for dinner. I ordered fried chicken spicy miso ramen, loved their thick noodle and soup. Kara-age(Japanese fried chicken) came on the side, all of us praised the flavor. My picky Japanese kids cleaned their plates at lightning speed. We are happy to find tasty Japanese restaurant in the neighborhood. Thank you for the great service.

Decided to try out Tengu tonight for takeout. My first impression is the restaurant is adorable, you can tell the owner put in a lot of work to make it look cool, and it does. Staff were happy and very polite with us. Checking out the menu they have a great lunch time special and the best menu ever. Every item has a clear photo. Great for indecisive people like me that look up Yelp to see photos of the food. We ordered the spicy miso and the Tengu Tonkatsu. The spicy miso was my favorite out of the two, but both were average in my opinion. Taking into consideration that I took this to go I would definitely come back, dine in and order something with thick noodles instead. Every other aspect of this restaurant was excellent.

Met a friend here for lunch on a Tuesday. It was moderately busy and service was quick. The dining is casual and relaxed. Upon entry, I was warmly greeted by someone. He was pleasant with a welcoming smile. I'm sorry I didn't get his name, but he was also our server. For some reason, I was just having a hard time choosing a ramen and making a decision. Our server was extremely helpful and I ended up going with the chashu ramen. It was perfect for the weather (cold and rainy). This ramen had a rich hearty broth with layers of flavor. The noodles had a good bite, cooked well. We also had vegetable spring roll appetizer to start. They were nice with a crispy wrap and paired with a sweet chili dip. Overall food and experience was positive. I would definitely recommend, and I'm definitely returning to try the other dishes.

My son is a regular here and they know his usual order. That's great customer service, if you asked me. I ordered the beef ramen and it's pretty good. Prices for appetizers are decent , I'll try other dishes next time I stop in.

Came later in the evening and it was still a packed house! yes it's a ramen house but we ate appetizers for dindin!! Yummy! it's kinda too hot for soup for me right now -mid june maybe on a rainy day if we're lucky to have one/haha :) it feels kinda a small space for dining but the space became cozier as we enjoyed our meal. Friendly servers and staff. :) Great for families. lots of to go orders were being made but we still received our dinner in timely manner.

Just left the restaurant less than an hour ago, and already wanted to come share how amazing it was! My husband and I got the fried chicken to start, and it was so good! Lightly battered and flavored perfectly, it went really well with the spicy dipping sauce it came with. I got the garlic bomb ramen, and it's officially my favorite ramen of North County! It's a spicy miso base, with a ton of freshly minced garlic.. amazing! You could smell the garlic as soon as the bowl is placed in front of you! The ramen was so flavorful and the chashu was tender. I also got the taro milk tea (not pictured), but they ran out of boba (it was a Saturday evening). That also hit the spot! My husband got the katsu curry rice plate, and he said it was amazing and we're definitely coming back for more. I'm definitely excited to try their lunch specials from 11-2 M-F, so I'll keep you posted on the other dishes we try! Service was quick, and the place was clean and had plenty of seating. Prices were also reasonable. Give this spot a try if you're ever craving ramen or Japanese in North County!

    Beef curry udon

2nd time visiting and each time the food was tasty. The beef curry udon is better than many I've had and was perfect for the rainy day. Staff was nice, attentive and helpful. Clean inside. It was spacious and didn't not have issues finding a seat. Wish I could have eaten two bowls lol

    Pork Katsu Curry

3.5 stars. Solid food. Shared the Rock n Roll, dumplings and Pork Katsu curry. I enjoyed all the food. I liked the texture of the pork katsu; juicy but outside still crispy. Curry was good. Rock n roll was a big bite and tasty. Service was alright, no complaints. Surprised we were the only ones on a Sunday right at noon. Spacious and clean.

First of all, I wouldn't say this is 100% authentic Japanese cuisine, however the flavors and quality were all amazing. They have a drive thru??? What??? I was so confused when we pulled up to dine in and there was a drive thru LOL, but it works! We went inside and I liked the attempt to have that suburbany cozy core. Food: we ordered rolls, ramen, and tonkatsu. When each of us took a bite we all were incredibly shocked by the flavor and quality. Everyone loved the broths and especially noted the chashu. The rolls were also really well made, preserving the textures of each ingredient (meaning it was all fresh). Now for my fav... this tonkatsu. Flavor yes texture yes, now what really got me was under that first layer of cutlet THERES ANOTHER ONE. WHATTTTT !!! It was like Christmas Day opening gifts when I moved one of the pieces over and noticed a whole other cutlet underneath. Insane portion size for the bowl I had to take leftovers and that itself filled a whole Togo bowl. Service: the service was adorable and so attentive. They are filling my water, they are putting that smile on, they are checking up, they were so sweet!!!

Some of our favorites so far are the Escondido roll, Dynamite roll (definitely one of our top picks), Dragon roll, and the asparagus tempura roll. We'll sometimes add a spicy California roll too. On colder days, I love getting their miso soup or spicy tonkatsu ramen, you can even switch out the protein for an extra charge, which is a nice option. My husband usually goes for the chicken katsu curry, and I really enjoy the beef yakisoba or the teriyaki salmon. So if you're in Escondido definitely give them a try!

I thought the rolls were bland despite them being a combo of good ingredients or sauced up (crunch salmon and the dynamite roll). The best thing was the baked dynamite roll. Maybe I'm a bit biased but if the best thing at sushi place includes baked cheese, it's not giving quality ingredients or talent for the cuisine category. The biggest letdown was my sushi plate. The fish didn't have much flavor and the texture was off. It almost seemed like someone rinsed the pieces of fish thoroughly under cold water. Also the 3 salads it came with were NOT fresh tasting and you could tell they'd been sitting all day (and not in a 'oh it marinating' good way). Service was also lacking, but it was a busy Saturday night. The ambiance is a 10 out of 10. I'll give it that. Plus they had plum wine which not many places do, and my mother in law loves.
