I ordered the tonkatsu and my husband ordered the spicy miso. Both broths were delicious. Tonkatsu is rich but slightly bland. They take our order and then leave, no problem, then a bit later they come back... "Oh actually, the lunch Menu ends at 2 so we can't serve you ANY of that" as if they've finally WON AGAINST THE CUSTOMER and gotten the upsell by mere MINUTES after 2PM... At which point we just give up order the same thing from the Full Price Menu. (Gee, what an ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE for the diner to start their meal with...) I hope the FIVE DOLLARS UPSELL they made was worth the hassle and losing would-be returning customers. The cooks are very inexperienced or they simply don't care! We ordered spring rolls to start, I had the Spicy Miso Ramen, and the hubby ordered a chicken rice bowl. The spicy miso came out first. After a ten minute wait, the spring rolls showed up. And then 10 minutes AFTER THAT, I finally went to the wait station to ask about my husband's chicken and rice bowl got all kinds of excuses about how long it takes to grill chicken and the five minutes after this, my husband's rice bowl made an appearance. Someone needs to show the cooks how meals go out of a kitchen! Starter (spring rolls) first. Then, all entrees, TOGETHER AT THE SAME TIME!!!! I don't care two shakes of a rats tail that the chicken takes a while to cook. Plan the timing of the food appropriately! I'll wait for my soup, I will. Now I'm sitting here eating ice-cold ramen because I waited 25+ minutes for my husband's main course to come out, and diners should eat TOGETHER. The server gives all kinds of excuses about how the chicken on the rice bowl takes extra time to cook, at which point I say I don't care how long the chicken takes, because the kitchen should time all entrees to come out at the same time: not one entree come out first, then the actual starter come out second, and then the second entree comes out 25 minutes after the first entree! But she keeps arguing, and digging a deeper hole of lack of timing, knowledge of service flow, and actual professionalism.I WILL NEVER RETURN. and if you are savvy, you will take my experience and advice and eat elsewhere. Nice new and inviting ambiance with half booth seating. It was more spacious inside than it looked from outside. The lanterns and the Japanese writing on the wall were a cliche decor but alright. The service was OK/good. It's a neighborhood ramen option to get a Japanese food fix in a pinch. They have udon, bowls, curry and other goodies. They only have one sushi roll on the menu. Shoyu ramen was not real shoyu soup, but rather tonkotsu-based shoyu flavored soup. The flavor was bland, and as a shoyu ramen fan, it was disappointing. BBQ Pork Bowl was good but a bit too salty and had a distinctive Chinese five spice flavor which I didn't care for. Pork Katsu Plate came with a heap of rice. Katsu was nice and crispy but thin and a little stiff. I am not used to eating Japanese food with long grain fluffy kind of rice. It's usually short grain sticky rice. I am a huge Ramen fan. I love these dishes, especially in the winter time and I really liked coming here because I had to have the fried chicken Ramen. I could've eaten 50 pounds of the fried chicken. It's done so well and the flavor is really good, but I chose to get the spicy miso base and Man was it delicious. This spot has been on my list of places to visit since I saw that it opened recently. One rainy day, I finally found myself here. We were promptly greeted and seated after walking in the door. The server was super friendly. We ordered pan fried dumplings, chicken katsu curry, the salmon bowl, and I ordered the fried chicken ramen from their specials menu. The pan fried dumplings were just perfect! They were tender but with juuust enough of a crisp on one side. My dad loved the curry, and my son was happy with his salmon bowl, although he did hand off his broccoli. My fried chicken ramen had a spicy broth that was just the perfect amount of heat. I added seaweed pieces and bok choy. I wasn't expecting for the chicken to come on the side, but I'm glad they thought ahead for the diner, so the chicken wouldn't get soggy while waiting to be eaten! Another great meal at our local Ramen joint. I like their smaller dishes, getting to mix and match. My kids love the udon noodles. My wife likes the Ramen. Service was wonderful. When it's actually raining in San Diego county, the only place to go is to get it soup to warm rhe soul. I wanted to try somewhere new so we stopped into Tengu Ramen. The shop was a little slow as it was within an hour of closing by the time we got there and sat down to order. The staff was very friendly, and there are lots of options on the menu to satiate any appetite. We ordered the char siu ramen and beef udon noodle soup. Portions were decently sized, the udon broth was refreshing and clean, and the tonkatsu base was nice and creamy. The takoyaki was buried under a mountain of bonito flakes. Lightly battered and flavored perfectly, it went really well with the spicy dipping sauce it came with. I got the garlic bomb ramen, and it's officially my favorite ramen of North County! It's a spicy miso base, with a ton of freshly minced garlic.. amazing! You could smell the garlic as soon as the bowl is placed in front of you! The ramen was so flavorful and the chashu was tender. I also got the taro milk tea (not pictured), but they ran out of boba (it was a Saturday evening). That also hit the spot! My daughter and I were stoked because we just went to their branch in Oceanside on Sun, Dec 29th and this branch just opened very recently. We went a week later on Sun, Jan 5th at lunchtime. Karaage came out crisp, juicy, and hot. The spam musubi had preserved plum on it which was something new for me, not sure if that is a usual topping for spam musubi. Just tried Tengu Ramen for the first time via delivery, and went with their Salty Shoyu Ramen. Overall, it was a decent first experience, though not quite a knock-out. The broth was definitely salty compared to other ramen shops. It had a good depth of flavor, though I personally found it a tad too salty. The noodles were cooked well, and the toppings were fresh and as expected. Nothing particularly stood out as amazing, but nothing was bad either. It was a solid bowl of ramen. It wasn't spicy, extremely oily, and had zero flavor. Only the peanuts had a distinct taste. Everything else had zero taste. Think like when you have a cold and can't taste anything.
