Best sushi spot in Escondido! I come here at least once a month for sushi dates, and it never disappoints. Alex is usually our waitress, and she's been working here for a long time. She's always attentive throughout our entire dining experience and makes us feel well taken care of without being overbearing. She has such a warm friendly personality, and it's clear she genuinely enjoys what she does. As for the food, we like to try different rolls each time. Some of our favorites so far are the Escondido roll, Dynamite roll (definitely one of our top picks), Dragon roll, and the asparagus tempura roll. We'll sometimes add a spicy California roll too. On colder days, I love getting their miso soup or spicy tonkatsu ramen, you can even switch out the protein for an extra charge, which is a nice option. My husband usually goes for the chicken katsu curry, and I really enjoy the beef yakisoba or the teriyaki salmon. So if you're in Escondido definitely give them a try! read more

When I judge a sushi restaurant, I keep it simple: miso soup and a basic roll. If you can't make the opening act exciting, I'm probably not sticking around for the encore. Unfortunately, the miso tasted like someone waved a seaweed packet over hot water and called it a day, and the basic rolls had all the excitement of eating cardboard with a gym membership. Then there's the outside food policy. Apparently, if your toddler dares to nibble on a chicken nugget from next door while the rest of the family orders sushi, the Food Police are ready for action. You could walk in wearing a tuxedo made of hundred-dollar bills and order the entire menu, but one tiny bite of outside food? That's apparently the culinary equivalent of a federal crime. The strange part is that the restaurant actually has potential. The problem isn't the building... it's the complete lack of urgency. Watching customers wait while staff casually chat feels less like dining out and more like watching a sitcom where everyone forgot they're supposed to be working. After a year of giving this place more second chances than a reality TV contestant, I'm officially done. If you're in Escondido, do yourself a favor: spin around, point in a random direction, Google "sushi near me," and you'll probably find a place where the staff remembers customers exist. Went here on a Sunday afternoon and there was plenty of parking. We were sat down very quickly since there was a small handful of people inside. We ordered these: - Cucumber salad - so good. The sauce was sweet and a bit tangy. Came with a crab stick and shrimp. - Stuffed mushrooms - deep fried. These were pretty good - Tiger roll - one of the best specialty rolls - Salmon nigiri - so buttery - Toro nigiri - melts in your mouth. We came to this sushi restaurant excited for a nice family dinner. After waiting about 30 minutes, we were finally seated at a table in the very back of the restaurant. Once seated, we waited another 25 minutes without a single staff member coming to our table. No one greeted us, took our drink order, or even acknowledged that we were there. What made the experience even more frustrating was watching multiple parties who arrived after us get seated, have their orders taken, and be served their entire meals while we continued to sit there completely ignored. There was clearly plenty of time for someone to at least stop by our table, but no one ever did. We were dining with our two young kids, who had been looking forward to eating sushi all day. Seeing them get more and more disappointed while we waited for service that never came was heartbreaking. When we finally decided to leave, I brought the situation to the staff's attention. The only response we received was a simple "sorry." There was no effort to make things right no offer to take our order immediately, no explanation, and no attempt to recover the situation. This was some of the worst customer service we've experienced. It was a complete waste of our time, and we definitely won't be returning. Looking back, I should have read the reviews before coming here. It seems like this has been an ongoing issue with this restaurant, and unfortunately, our experience only confirmed what so many others have already said. Based on the owner's responses to previous reviews, it doesn't seem like much has changed. This place was great! I came with family and friends to celebrate my wife's birthday. We didn't have plans ahead of time for a group of 7-8 people and they were able to seat us. The food was excellent tasting, the service was great, and the price for everything was fenominal! We will definitely be back. The only note i have is that this place is extremely strict on no outside food or drinks. I brought a half drinken coffee in with me and they asked me to get rid of it. I have never had a business actually enforce that rule and it was a bit awkward at first. I understand you don't want people to bring in random food and eat it in your business without buying anything, but clearly we came in to eat and spend money, so it was bizarre to ask me to get rid of a drink you don't sell. In the neighborhood and dropped in. Atmos was a delight. There were many people sat already. We sat ourselves and our server came to us after a few minutes. We order the mango tuna sushi -wow! So good. We also order the spicy chicken bowl and it was also really yummy. Not sure it's worth $1 up charge for the churn Breast but it did taste good. I usually go to Mikko Sushi in Vista which is the WAY better location because they actually listen & follow directions. I called in for a to go order at Escondido and asked for the Salmon Teriyaki bento with the sauce on the side. Shrimp tempura is what I ordered for one of the sides and I didn't get shrimp tempura I got mixed tempura. When my husband asked to make sure it was shrimp the guy said 'it is what it is' very professional. So professional I'll never go to this location again and recommend anyone reading this to go to Mikko in Vista. You'll get a 1000% better experience. Then I open my salmon and the sauce is on the salmon. So by the time I get home in 40 mins it's going to be soggy. Sauce on the side is a simple task and I get 'it is what it is'. I try calling back to tell them my experience before coming here with a bad review and they don't answer my call as if they're screening it. If you're going to not accept changes in the meal then tell me over the phone so I can change my mind instead of charging me $21 for a meal that I did not want. Edit* - Just adding that they did call me back after I left a vm. They apologized and offered a refund but as for the comment 'it is what it is' she apologized about that but also said 'it does not sound like something he would say' and excused the mixed tempura as 'the guy is new and probably forgot' almost felt like it was half apology, half excuse. Ordered the Mikko and caterpillar rolls, egg rolls and gyoza. Food was good. Daughter, however, found the sauce on her caterpillar roll a bit too sweet but good otherwise. I really wanted to make this spot my go to spot since it is just down the street, but the prices are insane, with an average price of $17 for a roll! You would think you were dining in La Jolla or downtown, not in Escondido. They have seating available inside & outside. Service was friendly & quick. i have come here multiple times but today was such a bad experience i won't ever come back. we waited 10 minutes for help to the point i got menus for the table. when i went inside twice the girl brown hair, light eyes working November 26 at about 230 was so incredibly rude i was taken aback. i have worked in the service industry as a server and understand the stressors. when i went back to check the second time and asked if we could order she said you haven't even been waiting that long and said if you went to complain i can give you the managers number. as an escondido resident always eating and shopping downtown that was upsetting and appalling. *manager took the time to comment but unfortunately what he described is absolutely not what happened. Mikko sushi is a top sushi place for me for always having excellent, fresh sushi that is flavorful and delicious. Everything is absolutely outstanding, from the service to the food. The rolls are delicious, no matter what you get you'll end up enjoying it. They even have entrees, fresh fish, bowls, and lots more. The salmon skin salad was incredible! I didn't know a sushi place could pull off such a great salad! The seafood ramen is outstanding and so flavorful as well. We have had the pleasure of dining at Mikko Sushi in Escondido on numerous occasions. We have consistently been very pleased with both the service and the quality of the food. However, our recent visit last Friday (April 17th) was a bit different. While the service was as excellent as ever, our Mekko roll, though still good, perhaps did not quite meet the high standards we have come to expect. The two dishes that were particularly disappointing were my personal favorites: the tuna poke bowl and the yellowtail kama. This is the best sushi in north county San Diego, located in Escondido off grand ave which is their Main Street around here. Leo is the manger and always takes great care of us. They have a great selection of chefs rolls and their sashimi selection is always delicious. I get the baked mussels every time because they do them perfectly here. They have a great selection of sake, beer, and wine as well. Try the mango cheesecake it will not disappoint you. A must try if you're looking for a cozy well kept date night spot. read more

Mostly service could've been improved on, I was there last night with my coworkers, my mom and my brother. We were celebrating a coworker's birthday and when one of my coworkers asked a nice question to one of the girls there, she made a face by giving attitude to my coworker who asked a question nicely, 2nd everyone got their food except my mom as we ordered 3 deep fried tempura rolls and we got 2 out of the 3 we ordered, then we waited a while for it and I told another girl who was mostly serving our table to cancel the order since we waited a while for it and my brother, my mom and I saw two cooks just standing there and they brought other tables the deep fried rolls and we still haven't received it before we canceled the order for the deep fried, another thing too my brother asked one of the guys about our deep fried roll and he said "they're getting it out to us" but we still never gotten it, I'm highly disappointed in the fact that they all didn't apologize or didn't do anything to make our service better, all the workers pretty much all shrugged it off about it and didn't say anything about it. I wish the service would've been better but it wasn't my expectation and I will not be showing up there again since I had a bad experience there with my first time being there as well. I work in customer service and honestly I can say I can do better customer service than all of the employees that was there last night. I get it was busy that night but it still didn't meet my expectations at all. There were various servers and each helped out with brining out items, whether that be bringing out water, utensils, the sauces, the food. Everyone was super helpful today. Unfortunately, unlike the review down below, I think the food fell short to my expectations instead of the service. I ordered various items: Spicy garlic edamame, calamari, garlic albacore and the albacore special roll My most liked items were the spicy garlic edamame and the albacore special roll (mainly because of the tempura crisps) I'm not sure if it was just today or if it's usual but the calamari was super tough. I had a few bites and was really disappointed. The albacore sashimi and even the albacore on the roll, most pieces were also tough/chewy and not the usual buttery consistency I'm used to. Found this hidden gem on yelp! Was just in the area and we are so glad we stopped at this local sushi place- it has a nice inside setup- very clean- lots of booth options which are comfortable. The servers are amazing- super friendly and also great with kids! All of the staff are asian so it feels very authentic. We started off with the miso soup and the shishito peppers- both were very tasty and the shishito peppers had an asian flavor- so so good! different from any shishito peppers i have had before-- this place is very family friendly because not only are the staff super great with kids but also they have an amazing kids meal! $7.50 and it includes terriyaki chicken, rice, and dumplings! i've never seen this combo for a kids meal but it really was perfect! It was a good size portion too. My mom and i split the escondido's sushi and the beach sushi roll, the one with the cucumber on the outside. The cucumber one was hard to keep together but had really great flavor, just was messy. We really enjoyed both though, tasted very fresh too. Early on, our table was brought an order meant for another table. When we addressed a mistake with our own order, our waitress argued with us, insisting we had ordered it. Additionally, we had trouble getting her attention for basic requests like water and napkins, as she never returned to our table.
