Nate was an excellent bartender and took such great care of us throughout our entire dinner. He was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience wonderful. What is happening here. Much of everything was wrong. Place was super crowded. Most diners we've ever seen for a Saturday 4 pm seating. Chef was great. He really worked hard, although he messed up the delivery of orders several times. Where's my scallops? Where are the shrimp appetizers. Where are the dipping sauces? The Chef's answer was he decided to do the vegetables first because our grill was already running late. Ohhh, the shrimp, salmon and scallops came out at the very end . . . and I still didn't get my scallops, although the other guy got his. And what is with the Yakisoba noodles being used as an appetizer? Ok then, we had to shift to the fork because the noodles were chopped to give each person an assorted-sized portion. And I'm not complaining that I got the obviously last very small portion. Chopsticks, not working here. It seems like everything was off. Perhaps it was because it being so busy. Lots of birthdays. The hubby and I tried Shogun last evening (8/1/26). I had a reservation for 5:30 and we were sat on time. Our server took our drink orders pretty quickly, but it was about 15 minutes before he came back, and then he lest with taking food orders. So, at the 20 minute mark, after being sat, everyone at our table (they seat 8 people at a time at the same teppan table), was wondering if we'd be forgotten. FINALLY... our server took our food orders. I asked for the NY steam and chicken combo, Hubby chose the shrimp yakisoba. We received the ubiquitous miso soup and salad with ginger dressing. They were both very good. Our "chef" made an entrance after everyone finished their salads. He ended being just OK. Not the best teppanyaki chef but definitely not the worst. He just seemed a little inexperienced. My chicken and streak were really good, but hubby's yakisoba was the the absolute worst yakisoba-in-name-only that either of us has ever seen. It was made with linguine pasta (think Barilla), and the sauce on it was cloyingly sweet, and not very delicious. We have both lived and worked in Japan, so we definitely know what yakisoba should look and taste like, and his dish was not it. He left if about 20% eaten. The dining room was super loud and there were lots of birthdays happening around us. So we got to experience their little birthday ritual at a couple of nearby tables. My entire experience rolled all together is this: the waits are a little long, the food is pretty good if you don't order yakisoba, and the dining room is very boisterous. Would I eat at Shogun again? Maybe, if a friend wanted to go, but otherwise, it's not really worth the $89 before tip price tag. read more

Prices are a bit high but they give a good portion and if you're lucky, you can sample orders from a diff party at your shared table when there's extra lol. Cocktail was dangerous because of how good it was. They will give you a free dessert if you post on instagram with their hashtag and follow their account. Their "happy hour" isn't much of a happy hour as it is available every day from open to close so that might be worth checking out. Love that you have options to get a half order on some of the rolls. Got seated right away for a party of 4 on a holiday. Service could definitely use a lot of work though - workers don't seem the most hospitable or seem to forget the things you ask for. Date of visit: Sunday, September 6 , 2026 -- Reservation at 7:30 PM Avoid Shogun at all costs. This was hands‑down the worst teppanyaki experience we've ever had, and it completely ruined my son's birthday dinner. Despite having a 7:30 reservation, we waited over 55 minutes for a chef, and only after complaining. The manager's excuse was that they "only have four chefs," which is absurd. If you can't staff your restaurant, stop taking reservations. It's irresponsible and shows zero respect for customers' time. Service was just as bad. Our waitress practically disappeared. My guests had to walk to the bar twice just to order drinks because no one bothered to check on us. For a teppanyaki restaurant, this is unacceptable. When the chef finally arrived, the experience went from bad to embarrassing. He wasn't presentable, had no entertainment value, burned himself twice, dropped his spatula multiple times, and looked miserable to be there. His cooking was sloppy, careless, and honestly hard to watch. The food was terrible. Everything tasted like a mouthful of butter because he dumped huge amounts of it on every item. Vegetables were unevenly cooked, portions were inconsistent, and the overall presentation was a mess. Worst of all, he forgot my son's steak entirely, the birthday boy. They removed it from the bill, but that doesn't change the fact that he basically only had the appetizer shrimp and a few bites of steak from his parents. We have the receipt to prove everything. Between the long wait, awful service, unprofessional chef, and horrible food, Shogun failed on every level. This place is not worth your time, money, or patience. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. This restaurant is a complete disappointment. read more

Our chef Antonio was very fun, enthusiastic & entertaining! We ordered steak/shrimp and steak/chicken cooked to perfection grilled veggies and fried rice. Still reasonably priced compared to Benihana & the same quality of food and cooking show. Portion size is also still generous 1 meal could still be split and be enough and satisfying. We have a big birthday group and a worker overheard my son asking for a cherry from a friend and she brought him a plate of them ! I was floored ! Also one of my kids wanted just potstickers but when the food was being made he was complimenting how good the food looked and the awesome cook put some on his plate ! This place is usually a solid 4-5 stars, but our most recent visit really lowered our expectations for this location. Overall, it's hit or miss. The space itself is pretty spacious, with no wait time even during peak lunch or dinner hours, and there's plenty of parking. The chefs have varied over the few times I've visited, but portions are generally generous. Ava at the front desk is always friendly. One downside is that one of the women's bathroom stalls can feel a bit cramped. Caesar: The food was great--especially the veggies. The noodle seasoning paired well with everything. Berto: The meats were great, though they could be cut into smaller portions. Service was very quick. My potatoes were still a little on the raw side, but he was friendly. On our most recent visit, we ordered from the happy hour menu but were charged full price. Our server also accidentally entered a full roll order and doubled it. We notified her, and she helped us adjust the price. 1/5 stars for Yuki, the manager. She could benefit from additional training in customer relations and management. She interrupted me before I could fully explain the situation and said she was trying to explain the prices--I already understood the prices. She then accused me of eating the entire roll before even looking at our dishes. We ordered from the happy hour menu (I even pointed to the item on the menu) specifically because of the smaller portion sizes. Since it was our first time ordering sushi here, we were initially surprised by the portion size and didn't know what to expect. Yuki could have handled this better by listening and simply adjusting the roll to the happy hour price. Instead, she adjusted the price by just a little bit without clearly explaining and accused us of eating the whole roll, then told us she had given us a "discount," even though they typically don't do that. We didn't eat the whole roll. Pointed that out and she adjusted it unwillingly and with a scoff. The interaction felt unpleasant and honestly a bit scummy. The rest of the staff at the bar and counter were still very friendly, and our server, Alani, apologized on her behalf for the miscommunication. Everyone else was great--just not the manager. Would I come back? Probably, or maybe just drive to the Temecula location. I like everything else about this place, but I'd avoid interacting with the manager if possible. She was also dining at one of the teppanyaki tables around 6 p.m., so she probably didn't like interrupting her dinner--but are there no other managers available? Also, the price was not adjusted. She applied the "discount" but it was after taxes. So I was taxed on a full roll amount, then she just subtracted the difference that was pre-tax. That's not how you should do business. read more

A great restaurant for a little show with dinner. Prices are competitive to Benihana. Chefs are entertaining. Fried rice always! Half of us ordered the Wagyu this time with our shrimp. It's a first for me at teppanyaki spot. As you'd imagine, it was very good. I didn't bother with the ginger or yum yum sauce. They had a larger variety of veggies - bell pepper and potatoes are new. Dinner also included a small side of noodles. New additions to included offerings according to the chef. A pleasant surprise. We had an early dinner reservation at 5pm and maybe 3 tables or so were taken. By the time we were done (maybe 6:30pm) the restaurant was full with a few parties waiting for a table. read more

I had my first experience here for work and it was quite wonderful. We arrived at 11:30am and our Chef was Bobby. All the food was brought out and cooked fresh in front of us. It was a party of 7 and Bobby was very mindful and let us know how he would beaming the food. I was impressed by how good it was. I never know what to expect when having hibachi. My food was made with care amd love (you can tell). Bobby interacted with us amd had a great personality. The menu was huge I may add, about 14 pages, which I was not expecting. Mother's Day 2026 started off pretty rough for our table. We had a 6:00 PM reservation and didn't receive our food until nearly 2 hours later, which is honestly unacceptable, especially on such an important day. That being said, we could clearly see the issue was not the chefs' fault. Cesar was upfront with us and explained that they were severely backed up because 2 chefs had called out. Despite the chaos, he kept a great attitude the entire time, was hilarious while cooking, and still tried his best to make the experience enjoyable. What really turned the experience around was Armando, the manager. Instead of avoiding the situation, he took accountability and made things right by giving our entire table a discount for the inconvenience. That level of customer service and professionalism definitely earned our business moving forward. Shogun Japanese restaurant in San Marcos is a fantastic hibachi restaurant with great food chefs. I ordered the ribeye and scallops with fried rice and veggies for my main course with edamame and chicken karaage for my appetizers. The ribeye came out perfect medium rare (as requested) and the fried rice and veggies and scallops had great flavor. The lighting inside and the wall art of shogun samurai paintings were a great touch to fill in the atmosphere. The main food course was fantastic, with the typical hibachi show they put on with the "beating heart" of the fried rice, the fire volcano of onions, and egg magic tricks with their hat. The chefs were very entertaining and engaging with the guests. The waitresses were also very kind and frequently got us refills on drinks and took our empty plates away quickly. There is plenty of parking with a designated parking lot outside of the restaurant. Bathrooms were also easily accessible and easy to find being within the main seating floor. My husband brought home sushi from Shogun this evening. A Crunchy Dragon Roll and a Super Mexican Roll, both were excellent! I have tried their Teppan before (ask for Bobby) but never their sushi, so far this restaurant is 2 for 2. Hello and good afternoon let snake better choices and be better people. Let snot expect tips for bad or even dare I say shitty service. I mean the place is small and somewhat packed for the size of the e building and how much room they have per square foot. They totally maximize and capitalize on this very situation. Then at the end of this so called superior service you are forced/expected to pay the server out a 20%.........like the heck did you do. The chef cooks the food server take order and bring food. The waitress was none existent the entire time and expected me to tip her. It's was Mother's Day and I had the family out with me. I've got no problem paying for food or even great service but you got to be doing your job. God bless and my best advice would be to stay far away from this 3star establishment and find a better choice. This is was not my choice as my wife wanted to go to this location it being her first time. I keeping on trucking on and keep on going to Benihana's which is better in my opinion. read more

The service was fast, did have to ask for water refill but aside from that the servers were on it. Food was acceptable. Nothing extra delicious but with the sushi and hibachi it was tasty.
