Wow -- Hidden Gem in Glendale! If you're in the mood for some of the best hibachi you've ever had, I would definitely check this place out. We were greeted by the super nice Mr. Mori when we arrived and were seated immediately. Within 5 minutes of being seated, they brought out a fresh salad and the best miso soup I think I have ever had as an appetizer. For my main protein, I ordered the chicken and shrimp, but we also ordered the steak and lobster. The steak was a perfect medium rare and the shrimp was amazing! "More butter, more better!" The chicken was perfectly cooked, still juicy. The lobster tasted fresh, and all of the food was done cooking and on the plate in a timely fashion. The coke they have comes in a plastic bottle, so you get more than you would from a can and if you don't finish it you can take it home. The waitresses were friendly and helpful. There were people celebrating a birthday and you could tell they go there a lot. They seemed super satisfied with their meal and left really happy. We've been coming here for years and came back after 4 years to celebrate a birthday. We were seated right on time, and it's always nice seeing the owner present and involved. Unfortunately, this visit didn't live up to what we remembered. Being given plastic utensils while dining in was surprising, especially at this price point. The service and food were just okay, and the "miso soup" was actually plain chicken broth, which was disappointing and unexpected. Overall, it didn't feel like the same experience we used to enjoy. Let me start off by saying in their defense, my party of 6 did not have reservations and it was Valentine's Day. We waited almost 40 minutes to be seated, which wasn't a problem because we had a birthday girl who chose this dinner, no biggie. However, once we were seated at 8-ish our cook didn't get to our table until an hour later. Visitor from Hawaii. Been to my fair share of teppanyaki places where they cook in front of you. Made us feel like me and my family were at home. Love the wall of fame of Mr. Mori and the celebs celebs. Mr. Mori and his team take care. Food was great, service was amazing, vibes were perfect. Came here on vacation as we just stumbled upon it as it was close to our hotel. It didnt disappoint. Prices are very reasonable and the food and service of the chefs and staff were great. This Teppan restaurant is a very traditional and nostalgic. They don't even make sushi here. They have your basic Teppan Style cooking. It's a mom-and-pop location and needs few upgrades. It felt more like a museum or an art space than a regular restaurant--at one moment, it even felt like being in a circus. It was truly enjoyable. I have been craving teppanyaki for a while now and i found this place to try. I finally went and it was a good experience. We were seated quickly and got serviced fast as well. Our server and cook were delightful and they seem to enjoy what they do at work which is nice to experience. The food and the portions were good. Good, not great. This is a typical teppan Japanese grill. Their flavors have no garlic. If they add garlicx it would probably taste better. The fried rice is literally just fried rice and egg. There was no chicken added to it. If it had chicken, it would have been so much better. The filet mignon was good. It was cooked nicely. Again, no garlic flavor. The seasoning they used basically was salt and pepper. I tasted no other flavors. I think this is why I was not a huge fan of this place. The chef was nice. He saw I wasn't eating part of my steak because it was too raw and asked if I wanted it cooked more, I said that would be great. He made it right. I would not return. The lack of flavor is disappointing. It was too much money for what it is. The parking is free. It is a weird inner lot right next to the restaurant. We came in on 08/19/2023, for my mother in law birthday. I really was expecting more show for the prices. Each meal was 40 - 60 dollars a piece which salad, soup, and main meal. The food was good quality but that was about it. The service from the cook was moderate. The grills needed a bit of cleaning there was layer with grease the lined the grill. Mori Teppan Grill is my favorite restaurant in Glendale, and may very well be my favorite in all of Los Angeles. Mr. Mori is not just the most hospitable host and owner I've ever met, but also a dear friend. Every time I visit, I feel as though I'm visiting an uncle's house. The food warms my belly and soul. The ambiance is exactly as it has been since he opened its doors in 1988. A literal time capsule of my childhood when I first ate there with my parents in the early 90s. Mr. Mori has recognized the importance of nostalgia and what it means to his guests who return time and again. And my favorite thing, not only has the food not changed just like the physical interiors of the restaurant, like its architecture, it's improved with time! I look forward to every visit! You can tell the owner genuinely cares about the restaurant, it shows in the service and the food. The cooks and servers were friendly and attentive. The food was amazing. This place is like a hole-in-the-wall version of Benihana. Same concept and food. Not surprising, since Mr. Mori (owner) was once part of the original Benihana team ( Head chef perhaps?). Its a time service so 100% RECOMMEND THE MAKE RESERVATION!!!! I walked in at 4:30 right when they opened, and they already had a sign that said "no openings." Mori was able to accommodate us but he had to run around to talk to servers and arrange seats for us. At around 4:45pm, the chef came out and started prepping the meal! Uber fun w/ fancy knife/fork work, egg throwing/cracking, but maybe due to covid they werent doing their typical performance of throwing (?) food in your mouth and other interactive displays haha. Filet mignon was bomb and portion was pretty large.
