I don't know why it has taken me this long but on my month-long Shabu crawl I discovered what is now one of my all-time favorites. Spacious/clean, easy parking, individual pots, fresh meat/ingredients, and a wonderful staff all make this worth coming back to again and again. Slightly different costs/portion sizes between lunch and dinner- what is 'large' for lunch is 'regular' for dinner (5.5oz) and works out to about 11 large slices. You get your choice of two dipping sauces (it's nice to see two other offerings besides standard ponzu and goma) and you can make the broth to your tasting with two squeeze bottles at each station (staff was also kind to help me the first time). Purple rice here is a nice, different touch. And both beef choices are great ($5 difference between prime chuck roll and the more premium prime rib eye) So tasty. I can see myself becoming a regular here for sure. read more

This place is pretty good. They give you unlimited purple rice with your meal. We got the Joon special and it came with 9 ounces of meat. Which was actually perfect and I'm a pretty small girl, I can't imagine having any less than that. It comes with a plate of vegetables and your choice of udon or ramen. You get to choose two sauces and the sauces are refillable. So if you're going with someone else and you want more dips. Then you can both get four different ones to share. They offer a sampler when you first sit down of all the sauces so you can try them. You make your own soup and they give you different bases to make your soup to your liking. The seating area is pretty cool as it feels like a giant bar and everyone gets their individual pot. Service was good, everyone was very friendly and attentive. read more

Joon Shabu Shabu is a solid spot for dinner. There is tons of seating, the staff is friendly, and the food is delicious. Like others have said, however, it is only bar seating, so plan accordingly if you come with more people. The wait on a rainy Saturday night wasn't too bad, and we chose to sit at a space in front of the door that no one wanted because of the draft. I didn't really notice the cold, though, so it wasn't a big deal. I do feel like the pots are a little far away and I felt like I was reaching a lot of the time, so that's one small thing that I didn't enjoy. The broth add-ins were good. I did one ladle of the brown sauce and a half of the red, and this added just enough flavor without being overwhelming. I also had the green onions and garlic. On the side I had the ponzu with radish and the garlic cream sauce. I wasn't exactly sure what to do with the latter, since I had never seen this before, but I was told I could dip my meat in it or stir it in with the rice. Decided to try this place because someone recommended it to me, and the experience might have been okay UNTIL I FOUND A PIECES OF HAIR IN MY BEEF!!!!!!! I had already taken a few bites before I noticed the hair stuck between the beef, which made it even worse. When I pointed it out, they actually asked me if I wanted to keep eating it or get a new pot... which was honestly shocking. Obviously, I asked for a new one. I ordered the sukiyaki pot, which already comes cooked with the beef and veggies together. It took 30 minutes just to get my food, while my friends who ordered the cook your own options were already eating. After they remade it, I had to wait another 30 minutes for the replacement. By the time my new pot finally arrived, my friends were almost done, and I was still waiting for mine to cook. The interior is one long bar with no table seating. The vibe is average for a shabu spot. Parking is inconvenient only street parking or paid public lots nearby. Overall, finding pieces of hair in my food after already eating some of it, being asked if I still wanted to continue eating, and then waiting an hour total made this a really disappointing experience. This is one of my favorite Shabu spots in the area. I actually drive out here from OC because I love this spot. The menu is pretty straightforward. There are not a lot of meat options. I would recommend the ribeye as it tastes more melt in your mouth. But the Joon Shabu is good also. What I like about this place is they often I believe five or six different sauces you can ask to test taste them! I like to get the Pozo and then the garlic sauce. The veggie plate is good. I wish there was just a little bit more leafy greens. They do give a lot of noodles. This place only offers black rice, which is very good! There are two soup based bottles that are on the counter. They were not explained to us, but there is descriptions on the menu. I mixed both of them in the pot and it makes a delicious mix. What I like is that if you get more hot water added to your pot you could add more toothpaste to make the soup just as good as the first time. It's been a while since I've dined at Joon Shabu Shabu but happy to share that the food was consistently fresh and tasty. Tonight, I was served by Sophia who was bubbly, sweet, and friendly. She gave us a minute to look at the menu and brought out some drinks and took our order. We doctored the broth with the sauces and garnishes provided. I added a huge spoon of minced garlic along with some generous squirts of the orange and brown bottles. The sliced beef and fresh veggies were served immediately along with a side of ramen or udon noodles. You control the pace of your meal by adding protein and veggies and cooking it to your liking. A filling meal for 3 plus drinks was under $100, which is unheard of in this economy. Our go to hotpot in Glendale Living in Glendale this was the best option for ShabuShabu. The food was pretty good quality. The portion wasn't overwhelming but I never left hungry. They're good about providing rice and sauce. The people are super friendly. They explained how things worked, gave sampler of the sauces so you can pick, and then helped your order. Once your seated it goes quick. But there can be a wait and it can get long if there is no seats - I wish they were more flexible about sauces. There is a very small free parking lot down an alley in the back (easy to miss) with a few spots marked for Joon Shabu. Inside, the restaurant smells wonderful - it was clean and the service was great. Several of the staff checked on us throughout the meal to make sure we had enough sauces. We both got the regular dinner size portion of the Angus beef ribeye with udon and rice. Portions are decent and the soup bases (you add your own sauce to make the soup) are very good. Veggies were fresh and the meat was flavorful. The meal was definitely enough to fill us both up. You also get to pick two sauces - I got the ponzu and the soyo and the soyo was very tasty. Came here with a group of classmates for a birthday dinner and honestly, we really enjoyed it. Once seated, our server took our drink order right away. I ordered the Joon beef, perfect amount of meat for me at least. I've been to a few shabu spots and all of them had many soup bases to choose from, but not here. They either have sukiyaki broth or just a house broth. I ended up getting the house broth, my server squirted 2 diff bottles into my pot of water and told me I can adjust it to my liking. I ended up adding more of the spice bottle. It was actually really good, I was def hesitant at first but the both was perfect. Great service and food was really good, would def come back. read more

I've been to Joon Shabu Shabu numerous times after my previous post and have experienced this same scenario below TWICE already. Joon Shabu Shabu offers a LUNCH and DINNER menu and I ALWAYS check to confirm with the server. I usually arrive before 2:30pm just to make sure I make lunch hours. Both times I specifically clarified and ordered the large (5.5 oz) angus beef lunch, and both times I was charged for DINNER prices. This happened AGAIN yesterday and the server had the audacity to tell me that "I made note that you wanted dinner." No, I specifically called out and pointed to LUNCH when I ordered. I even asked you if it was still lunch once I sat down and you said yes. Do NOT gaslight me. Yes, I disputed the charges and Joon Shabu Shabu was OK charging me for lunch instead. This shouldn't have happened, but the fact that this seems to happen twice already shows that it's part of the restaurant's daily practice. I don't think I'll be back since I see this as plain dishonesty. Honestly, just don't even offer lunch portions. read more

The employees were also very communicative and helpful with explaining the different sauces ,flavorings, and how to properly cook the meat. Small shabu restaurant with bar seating only. My bf and I dropped by on a busy Saturday night and the wait was 45 minutes, so we came back on a weeknight. The staff were super nice and introduced us to the housemade sauces. After providing bottles of concentrated broth bases, our server asked if we needed help adjusting the flavors. Their two bases, one dashi and one togarashi, tasted good mixed together. - Angus Beef ($31 - 5.5 oz). The meat was good quality and soft when cooked. It came with a large side of veggies and noodles. Purple rice is unlimited, and you can choose up to two dipping sauces. I was full, but not uncomfortable after dinner. Of the five housemade dipping sauces, my favorites were the nutty goma and the tart ponzu. The goma was a little salty though. The ninniku garlic was like a whipped toum, and I liked it on the rice. The soyo (soy, garlic) was too salty for me. I didn't like the umami sauce because it tasted like an Italian vinaigrette for a sub sandwich. - Gyoza ($4 - 4 pcs). Crispy on the bottom, but just okay. At $1 apiece, it's kind of overpriced. The only annoying part of the bar experience was that the hot pot was too far from reach. Thai place is not an all you can eat place. They have a pretty set menu on the options. Which you can also add on sides. Each meat selection does come with a good amount of a plate of veggies. Ask to try samples of the dipping sauce in case you don't know what to pick. You will also been to make your own soup base make sure to use all of it to make the perfect base. They have high bar and low bar seating for preferences. Some kids might need a high chair so low bar seating makes sense. The broth was fun because they let you mix it up on your own.
