The food here was amazing!! Came here with my boyfriend and sat at the bar which was a cool experience. It's so cool to watch them make it fresh. Everything chef Gio recommended was so good! All the online menu pictures you see look just like what you get. We started with the salmon specialty which was the perfect sweet and salty combination. Then we had tuna nigiri that was great and my favorite the hamachi specialty which I thought was so unique and delicious! We also had some yellowtail hand rolls. I've never had a hand roll before and wow! We ended up ordering more they were so good. We had the Southtown roll which I thought was great and not too spicy (I took off the jalapeño and gave it to my boyfriend). Arrived at 6:30 solo on a Tuesday evening and was seated immediately at the bar. There was a big screen TV playing the World Cup and they had a special World Cup menu with special food and drinks. The place has a large central bar with a few tables around the periphery as well as a few outside on the sidewalk. The decor is clean and modern and the place has a vibey feel. Not exactly sure how to rate this place. If rating it as a bar primarily that also has decent sushi, I'd give it five stars. If rating it as a sushi bar I'd give it three stars. All of the sushi that I had (nigiri, cut rolls and hand rolls) were good but nothing special. If you're looking for a great sushi experience, this is likely not the place. They have a small selection of Japanese and local craft beers as well as bottled and tap sake. I originally characterized the service as slow and inattentive. This place was so great! They have seating along the bar and tables along the walls of the restaurant. There's a chill yet elegant vibe to this place so feel free to dress up or be a bit more casual. In the evening, the lights dim and give it a romantic feel. The service was great and the food was DELICIOUS! If you're sober living, no problem! They have really good canned mocktails but trust, they're no ordinary canned drinks. They taste really good!! We ordered: miso soup and chicken gyozas as appetizers and the 5 hand roll set, Emo Brown Roll and blue crab hand roll for the meal. We had some of the sweet and spicy sauce left over from the gyozas and I used it on my spicy tuna roll and it was such a delicious combo! Overall, HIGHLY RECOMMEND! The sushi was underwhelming and pretty boring. They have very few rolls on the menu and they are very basic. The fish on the nigiri was small and the rolls had very little as well. We had some hot saki with our dinner. Our roll had a discrepancy, however the most gracious manager Salvador comp'd our meal, went above and beyond to make sure our first visit would have us come back as repeat patrons. I ordered three hand rolls, a scallop one, salmon one, and crab one. I looove scallops and theirs was so fresh! It was my favorite one. The salmon and crab were great too. I was expecting a nice setup of cone shaped hand rolls but instead I was served a cylindrical roll that I thought was pretty small in diameter and length (size matters LOL) Imagine a basic cut roll but uncut, narrower and shorter. It didn't seem like it had a lot of fish in it either... They bring them out one by one. I was still hungry after all three and $19 in... Pretty disappointed so far - ordered a rainbow roll for $16.. the roll was much better. Very fresh.. but still seemed lacking in the size and the amount of fish offered. The ambiance is great It's right on the 101 in the middle of downtown Encinitas... Considering I just dropped $40 on my lunch and left pretty disappointed, I can't recommend this place. The Moonlight room was so ono with Shishi (perilla leaves) to balance out the flavors, Biko state (crunchy rice crackers and spicy tuna). Had to have the Dragon Roll. Onolicious marinated grilled eel with gobo for some crunch. Finally, we ordered the Omega Red roll. Woo! This one is loaded with all the textures and flavorings you can imagine. This place is so cute! The hostess was extremely friendly, had just a couple minute wait during peak dinner hours. Happened to accidently come during the $7 martini Thursdays which was a huge win. A friend and I stumbled upon it on a whim when we were doing a staycation at Alila Marea a few months ago. The crisp on the nori is lovely and they're filled generously with delicious ingredients. I've since come back a few times alone, and also with my daughter and husband. Bringing my daughter is not as easy because she's 3.5 and they only have bar stool style seating, so I was a little anxious making sure she didn't fall off the bar stool. She enjoyed her miso soup and ebi nigiri. My husband likes coming here because it's more cost efficient than taking me to Azuki in bankers hill, while still satisfying my sushi fix lol. I usually order a la cart but recently got the set of 5 hand rolls and the shrimp hand roll that I don't usually order was so unexpectedly good! We loved dining at the location in Vegas and loved that Encinitas does not come with the Vegas price tag and the space can fit so many people but the quality was lacking. We got the 5 set (salmon, shrimp, scallop, yellowtail, spicy tuna) and added three more (blue crab, toro, albacore). Spicy tuna is always good because of the crispies. Salmon is usually good but I find that the shrimp had the most flavor. The scallops were creamy and bland. The blue crab had no flavor. Basically most were lacking flavor. They say hand rolls are best to be consumed within the first 10 seconds to get the best crispy crunchiness of the nori. Well, it was a big disappointment because the nori was chewy and didn't break off easily at every bite. That's supposed to be the most satisfying. Good thing we always order a side of yuzukoshu. We also got the temaki spicy. 2 for 1 sauce deal. Everything taste better if dipped in this sauce. Now I need redemption at the Vegas location next month to complete my hand roll craving. read more

I really liked Temaki sushi bar! I think North County is lacking in cool/ good sushi restaurants and Temaki is both. The inside is one giant sushi bar that fills the majority of the restaurant so your servers are directly across the bar which is convenient, as well as the sushi chefs. Everything came out pretty quickly and our server was helpful and have some recommendations. There is also a large TV on one side that has sports for anyone looking for both. I had a house chilled Junmai Gingo sake which had a nice flavor. We shared the 4 hand rolls - my favorite was the Yellowtail but they were all good, the spicy tuna crispy rice which was delicious and probably my favorite, a tuna and salmon nigiri, miso soup and I had to try the Super Ninja Bunny. It had really good flavors with truffle and topped with caviar. I read other reviews complaining about cost but this was all $108 which doesn't seem that pricey to me? I would definitely come back now that I know of this nearby cool spot. read more

Came in with a small group to celebrate our friend's birthday, and we were all blown away at the quality of the fish. Everything is so reasonably priced, too! We tried a myriad of items: cucumber salad, the 5 hand roll set, beef tataki, spicy tuna crispy rice, takoyaki, toro temaki, crunchy roll, eel nigiri, salmon nigiri, and the Harland lager. The Hamachi (yellowtail) Specialty Sushi and Mamas Roll with blue crab, seared salmon, lemon, shrimp tempura cucumber and sauce was really good. I recommend these dishes. The Hamachi and Scallop hand rolls were also good with the toasted nori. The only thing we didn't like was the Agedashi Tofu which was a little too sour for our liking. And the Toro wasn't as rich as we'd normally like and kind of bland. Know that parking can be a little difficult (there's parking in the back though) and that they only have a few high tables that seat only 2 people. The rest of the seating is along their bar that faces the sushi chef. This place is not good for groups or people looking to share with more than 2 people. I had the salmon , albacore, shrimp, and yellowtail. I thought the hand rolls were a good size. I was disappointed that the salmon wasn't more fresh . I also did not like that the albacore was spicy. Right when my friend walked in to get a table, the host gave her an annoyed look like we were bothering them. It set a weird tone right away. The servers weren't very attentive either, we had to ask multiple times just to get soy sauce. We ordered the 5-roll set and the quality was just okay. Most of the rolls were coated in heavy sauce or mayo, which overpowered the fish. The only one we really liked was the spicy tuna roll because it had a nice crunchy texture inside.
