From the moment we walked in, they were all welcoming, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care about making sure everything was perfect. Gage did an awesome job guiding us through the menu and giving great recommendations. we tried a few things we normally wouldn't have, and they ended up being some of our favorites. Max brought great energy to the table, checking in at the right times and making sure we always had what we needed without ever feeling rushed. Lily was incredibly friendly and detail-oriented, making the whole experience feel smooth and elevated. This place was so great! They have seating along the bar and tables along the walls of the restaurant. There's a chill yet elegant vibe to this place so feel free to dress up or be a bit more casual. In the evening, the lights dim and give it a romantic feel. The service was great and the food was DELICIOUS! If you're sober living, no problem! They have really good canned mocktails but trust, they're no ordinary canned drinks. They taste really good!! We ordered: miso soup and chicken gyozas as appetizers and the 5 hand roll set, Emo Brown Roll and blue crab hand roll for the meal. We had some of the sweet and spicy sauce left over from the gyozas and I used it on my spicy tuna roll and it was such a delicious combo! Overall, HIGHLY RECOMMEND! The executive chef Sebastian was also super down to earth and really cool! Been wanting to try this place for quite a while... $19 for three hand rolls (that comes to $6.33 each... )That was the lunch "special" on the sign out front but it's actually their regular menu offering. Pretty misleading if you ask me... You might as well post the entire menu on the sign. You can get 3-4-5 hand roll kits... Nothing comes with it. No miso or edamame or anything. I was expecting a nice setup of cone shaped hand rolls but instead I was served a cylindrical roll that I thought was pretty small in diameter and length (size matters LOL) Imagine a basic cut roll but uncut, narrower and shorter. It didn't seem like it had a lot of fish in it either... They bring them out one by one. I was still hungry after all three and $19 in... Pretty disappointed so far - ordered a rainbow roll for $16.. the roll was much better. Very fresh.. but still seemed lacking in the size and the amount of fish offered. The ambiance is great It's right on the 101 in the middle of downtown Encinitas... Considering I just dropped $40 on my lunch and left pretty disappointed, I can't recommend this place. I was greeted quickly and sat at the bar. I ordered the restaurant week prefix menu. It all started with a small bottle of sake, which had a clean pleasant flavor. The Nigiri was especially tasty, each one seasoned perfectly. The 4 hand rolls were delicious and I was pleasantly surprised by the shrimp roll. I looove Temaki bar. I live in Escondido so it's not the closest option but well worth the drive for me (when there's no traffic lol). A friend and I stumbled upon it on a whim when we were doing a staycation at Alila Marea a few months ago. We had walked past it and it looked interesting so we stopped in despite having just had a light lunch, and I'm so glad we did! A couple of hand rolls to top off our lunch was perfect. The crisp on the nori is lovely and they're filled generously with delicious ingredients. I've since come back a few times alone, and also with my daughter and husband. Bringing my daughter is not as easy because she's 3.5 and they only have bar stool style seating, so I was a little anxious making sure she didn't fall off the bar stool. She enjoyed her miso soup and ebi nigiri. My husband likes coming here because it's more cost efficient than taking me to Azuki in bankers hill, while still satisfying my sushi fix lol. I usually order a la cart but recently got the set of 5 hand rolls and the shrimp hand roll that I don't usually order was so unexpectedly good! I really liked Temaki sushi bar! I think North County is lacking in cool/ good sushi restaurants and Temaki is both. The inside is one giant sushi bar that fills the majority of the restaurant so your servers are directly across the bar which is convenient, as well as the sushi chefs. Everything came out pretty quickly and our server was helpful and have some recommendations. There is also a large TV on one side that has sports for anyone looking for both. I had a house chilled Junmai Gingo sake which had a nice flavor. We shared the 4 hand rolls - my favorite was the Yellowtail but they were all good, the spicy tuna crispy rice which was delicious and probably my favorite, a tuna and salmon nigiri, miso soup and I had to try the Super Ninja Bunny. It had really good flavors with truffle and topped with caviar. I read other reviews complaining about cost but this was all $108 which doesn't seem that pricey to me? We loved dining at the location in Vegas and loved that Encinitas does not come with the Vegas price tag and the space can fit so many people but the quality was lacking. We got the 5 set (salmon, shrimp, scallop, yellowtail, spicy tuna) and added three more (blue crab, toro, albacore). Spicy tuna is always good because of the crispies. Salmon is usually good but I find that the shrimp had the most flavor. The scallops were creamy and bland. The blue crab had no flavor. Basically most were lacking flavor. They say hand rolls are best to be consumed within the first 10 seconds to get the best crispy crunchiness of the nori. Well, it was a big disappointment because the nori was chewy and didn't break off easily at every bite. That's supposed to be the most satisfying. Good thing we always order a side of yuzukoshu. We also got the temaki spicy. 2 for 1 sauce deal. Everything taste better if dipped in this sauce. Now I need redemption at the Vegas location next month to complete my hand roll craving. read more

Maybe I've just been spoiled by Kazunori and Rol, but this place didn't hit the mark. The salmon and albacore tasted like they came straight out of the fridge--icy cold. One of the best sushi experiences we've had in a while. I've had this place on my list for about two years now, and they absolutely did not disappoint. Came in with a small group to celebrate our friend's birthday, and we were all blown away at the quality of the fish. Everything is so reasonably priced, too! We tried a myriad of items: cucumber salad, the 5 hand roll set, beef tataki, spicy tuna crispy rice, takoyaki, toro temaki, crunchy roll, eel nigiri, salmon nigiri, and the Harland lager. After I was seated it was a long time until I was handed the menu and given glass of waters. I had the set menu for restaurant week and also ordered the cucumber salad and beef tataki. The food came out really fast where felt overwhelming. To a point where I wasn't able to enjoy each dish . I felt as if I had to finish everything to get to the next thing. I had the salmon , albacore, shrimp, and yellowtail. I thought the hand rolls were a good size. I was disappointed that the salmon wasn't more fresh . I also did not like that the albacore was spicy. I thought the best roll was the yellowtail. For the specialty nigiri, the three pieces were all seared. I was looking forward to fresh raw pieces of nigiri. At this point it doesn't even feel like a restaurant, it feels like family. The vibe is always right--kinda trendy, a little funky, just a good energy every time you walk in. Right when my friend walked in to get a table, the host gave her an annoyed look like we were bothering them. It set a weird tone right away. The servers weren't very attentive either, we had to ask multiple times just to get soy sauce. We ordered the 5-roll set and the quality was just okay. Most of the rolls were coated in heavy sauce or mayo, which overpowered the fish. The only one we really liked was the spicy tuna roll because it had a nice crunchy texture inside. My kids tried Temaki first - and loved it. We were looking for a Sunday funday family activity and decided to hit the farmers market and then enjoy a sushi lunch. We arrived just in time as the restaurant filled up quickly after we sat down. I heard about the hand rolls so I ordered the 5 piece set because that is the only one that had scallops. I wish I looked closer at the menu, I could have mixed and matched them since I do not enjoy Salmon and gave my roll away. Lesson learned. The rolls were flavorful and delicious, although I like a more traditional hand roll with a little vegetable and less rice. They are more like mini uncut sushi rolls and made in a machine. I assume this keeps their costs lower. I spent a couple of years working at more authentic sushi bars working my way through college so the machine feels wrong to me. This time around we came again 2 more times in August, on a Monday at 12:30 PM. and a Tuesday at 12 PM., both times the restaurant was empty. My miso soup was luke warm, the rolls were good not great, needed more fish inside, less rice, but was lacking a bit was service and continuity of delivering rolls... long waits between rolls which made the whole experience drag on. My friend was much more of a fan of Temaki than I was because of the unique warming up of the seaweed covers on the Hand Rolls.
