Service was professional and friendly and the booths were very comfortable. Mia's continues to be one of the best restaurants in SB. But please inprove your wine list and wine pricing. Too many supermarket wines at 4X retail is a turn off. The food deserves much better. read more

We came here for an early lunch on a weekend with a small group of about 8. They do have a small parking lot, otherwise street parking in front. There are several restaurants and shops in the area, perfect for a small stroll after you eat. The restaurant was very clean and bright inside, and felt airy. They do have a patio as well as indoor seating. We had made a reservation and sat indoors. The service was good and they were helpful with the menu. I wanted something light and decided to go with the poke bowl. It tasted very fresh and the portion size was perfect for me. I wish it had a bit more sauce on it, and there wasn't very much edamame in it, but it was still good. I think next time i would just ask them to go heavy on those things. It did have a good amount of the pickled onions. Id order again. I also tried a bit of the lox flatbread which was also pretty good, i could really taste the dill and it was a good alternative to a lox bagel. The amount of salmon and feta were a good balance. We tried the beet salad which was very light, and a small portion. I dint think I'd order it again just because there are other things on the menu if prefer, but it was good. My friends and I came here for brunch a few Sundays ago. The restaurant is nicely decorated and is opened with a connecting outdoor patio where patrons with pets could dine. It was a very warm day so we opted to sit inside. I had entered the restaurant through the back entrance that led me past the kitchen, and there was a plate of the octopus. One look and whiff of it and I was sold. It wasn't exactly brunch food, but it looked and smelled too good to pass up. My dish tasted great, but my complaint was that it only came with one tentacle and the tip was missing. I felt cheated, because the tip is my favorite part. My friends enjoyed their food. Service was not that great. Our server never came to refill our water cups. Once our food was delivered to our table, we never saw her again until we flagged her down for the bill. read more

I'd come back even just for the cocktails. They were fresh, creative, and pretty.. really nice. They had a side-car bonus special with 1800, and a tequila list a mile long. If someone else was driving, I'd explore more of that side of the menu. The porkchop was superb.. really tender, full of flavor and with some nice sides. Perfectly cooked, and generous cut. A+ The ceviche was a bit onion-forward more-onion for my taste, but if you're picky with the fork in separating it out, nice. I'd try some different varieties next time. Seared ahi was just okay, had a bit of a long chew to it, not my favorite cut. Smothered in seasonings/topping bits, but hey, just like the picture. Service was super kind and helpful. We were watching a band in the area while visiting Solano Beach and after the show got hungry. My bf found this place nearby and the menu seemed promising so we gave it a try and I'm so glad we did. We got there kinda towards the end of the night but not too late. We sat at the bar and had a fantastic time chatting with Nick. He was so friendly and also a fantastic bartender. Gave us lots of recs for San Diego while we were in town. The espresso martinis he made were delicious as well. I think the restaurant is new and is so cute and clean (side note, the wallpaper in the bathroom is so fun I loved it!!!) To eat we ordered the Mezze platter, the crispy Spanish octopus, the snapper ceviche, and the empanadas. We really enjoyed it all. I think we both agreed the octopus was our favorite. If you know me or my reviews, we get octopus every restaurant we go to where it's on the menu. This was the first time we got the more than just the tentacles. I think it was the head as well? It was delicious and so different and tasted great. The dish was really crispy, and the sauce it came with was perfectly paired. My bf didn't like the ceviche as much as I did but I really enjoyed it. It was acidic/limey. I enjoyed it but he said it was okay/ too sour... to each their own! Place is super cute!! I really liked it, live music, indoor outdoor vibe. Only one bartender so a touch slow but she rocked. My birthday dinner and I could not have chosen a more perfect dining experience to accentuate my day ! Our attentive, knowledgeable and amazing server, Katy, recommended choosing from the shareable section : volcano tostada, crispy Spanish octopus , hamachi crudo, and pork belly tacos . And, we chose every one of them and were extremely satisfied . Out of those 4, the 2 that stood out in robust flavor were the volcano tostada and the crispy Spanish octopus! Five of us went here to celebrate a friend's birthday. We ordered several appetizers and a couple entrées to share family style. Service was great, our waiter was very attentive and friendly. Food was good overall. A couple of temperature issues were experienced. Some of the food came out on the warm versus hot side, and our ribeye came out rare when we asked for medium (opposite of what usually happens when I personally order medium rare). Dishes, we liked/loved were the octopus, the hamachi, crude, squash blossom quesadilla (this is one of the warm dishes, so the cheese was coagulated and not melty), and the barramundi. The Carnita tacos were also pretty good, but that was a daily special as they had a roasted pig that day (on display out front!) The least favorite, and most pricey dish of the night was the $80 ribeye. Not only was it cooked incorrectly (rare vs medium), it was a very tough, chewy cut of meat. It was that type of chew like there was a tendon running throughout the whole meat . We probably should've just sent that one back completely and asked for a new cut. Drinks were also pretty good. I had a couple of margaritas, but I liked the passion fruit variety more than the spicy one. For the birthday girl, our waiter brought out a nice scoop of yummy gelato with a candle, which was a nice touch. We had a girls night at Mia's last night and the food was just OK. We did love the ambiance of the restaurant tho... We each had a different margarita- the coconut, carrot passion and the aguachile. None of them were worth coming back for. If I had to choose out of the three- it would be the aguachile. We started off with the volcano tostadas- 3 come in an order. This was the best out of what we ordered. However- it was just ok. We then got the empanadas- 3 come in an order with a salsa and a chimichurri aioli. The salsa tasted like the filling of the empanada and the aioli tasted like tartar. My friend complained to constantly burping this up the rest of the night. I didn't think these were great... just ok. Wouldn't order them again. We ordered the seasonal oysters. These were also just ok. There was too much greenery on top that took away from the oysters. We finished with an espresso martini and carajillos. These two drinks saved the review. They were so good. Highly recommend coming in for the carajillo. The customer service was outstanding- also impacted my review. I would come back for the carajillo but that's about it. read more

Came at 7PM on Sunday for light bites and we were able to be seated immediately for two people. There was parking outside of the restaurant along the street. Ordered the crispy fish tacos, hamachi crudo, and papas and mole negro. We wanted to try the octopus but it wasn't available. *hamachi crudo: the hamachi was melt in your mouth and the hibiscus ponzu was not just visually stunning but also bright and unique in flavor *papas and mole negro: I was a fan of how crispy and fluffy the potato pave was, mole was smoky and nutty *crispy fish taco: on the steeper end in terms of price point, but the cod was flaky and the cucumber pico de gallo was a nice contrast to the fried fish The space was very beautiful inside and service was friendly and attentive, our server had detailed recommendations. Easy parking too on the street in front. Grace was our server. The Happy Hour menu is not listed on their website, but you'll find pictures of it here on Yelp under menus. COCKTAILS: Any of their cocktails are $10 at happy hour, v $14-16 regularly. I got the OAXACA OLD FASHIONED: Reposado tequila, mezcal, Nixta, xocolatl mole bitters, angostura, agave. Very refined and super delicious. Strong and sippable too! My friend got the CLASSIC MARGARITA and was very happy with it. APPS: We each got a FISH TACO ($3 each - a bargain for a posh place in SB) - and we shared the MEZZE PLATTER, $12 and very yummy. It comes with pita *and* with vegetables you can dip instead, and three dips: muhammara, tzatziki, and roasted red pepper and feta. They were all good, but I was crazy for the muhammara - just the right balance of bell peppers and walnuts. Yum! Folks, this happy hour cannot be beat. Visited Mia's on a busy Friday night and were seated outside. The restaurant was lively, and Jojo, our server, was wonderful. We started with the octopus, scallops, and ceviche, followed by the skirt steak, lamb, mushroom salad, and Aleppo chicken, and finished with the olive oil cake and rice pudding. The octopus was tender, flavorful, and well cooked. The scallops were beautiful and nicely done with bright acidity. The ceviche, however, lacked seasoning and fell a bit flat. The mains were underwhelming overall. The rack of lamb, ordered medium, was chewy, the Aleppo chicken was dry, and the mushroom dish was overpowered by heavy sauce. The skirt steak was decent but not memorable. Dessert didn't redeem the meal, the olive oil cake was dense, and the rice pudding had some undercooked grains. Super bummed about our first experience here last night.Been wanting to try this place since it opened but unfortunately won't be back. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, drinks were good, food was terrible. We started with oysters which were okay nothing special. We got the hamachi crudo next and it was def not worth the price. The pieces of hamachi looked like they were cut with a dull knife, orange sauce it came with tasted like nothing and even the mango salsa it came with lacked in flavor too. For our main we got the white fish (forgot the name) with fava beans. Really awful. Beans were lukewarm and fish was cooked to hell, so dry! Had to send it back, def was not paying almost $40 for that. Manager was nice enough to comp it from our bill and did offer something else but at that point we were ready to just go somewhere else. read more

New owners have taken over this space along Hwy 101 in Solana Beach. Mia's recently debuted with its Baja California and Mediterranean influenced cuisine. A full grand opening celebration will happen in a couple of weeks during the middle of November. There were two outdoor seating areas, along the sidewalk out front and a side patio to the north of the main dining area. I sat across from the central bar for a recent mid-afternoon lunch when there were just a handful of customers. The two-sided menu listed the beverages on one page. Shareable plates, salads/veggies, and entrees made up the food offerings on the other page. A couple of the shareable items were sufficient for my meal. The first was the Picadillo Empanadas which came as a set of three pastries with a ground beef filling. Chimichurri aioli and peanut chipotle salsa were provided as dips. I preferred the aioli because of its herbiness. The empanadas were okay in size for the price. I do wish they were hotter temperature-wise. The Crispy Spanish Octopus was my second item. Unlike many places, this kitchen used a grown-up octopus tentacle that was grilled to perfection. A few baby Yukon potatoes were smashed and crisped to serve as a carbohydrate base. Chimichurri and romeseco were the sauces that were used. Bits of Spanish chorizo sausage were also sprinkled into the mix. The presentation and flavor profiles of this pulpo dish were one of the best that I have experienced in a while. The service from my waitress was good. One of the managers (owner?) also came by to check up on me. For the price and quality of my food, I gave a four star rating for my visit to Mia's. read more

(good to know because I imagine I looked silly looking for an open door). service. .very friendly. when we were seated I asked for a table that where I wouldn't be cold (so not outside unless there are patio heaters). the table they offered was perfect...bench seats, in back of restaurant and cozy. I ordered my steak and eggs...eggs over medium. basically i want my white cooked and the yellow anywhere in between super runny and solid. egg's came practically raw. they white was raw and runny...she offered to recook the eggs, but I had lost my appetite. i boxed up my food and my husband was almost done with his meal by then. I had a bite of his food and it was tasty. Our server was so gracious and lovely and she was kind enough to remove my entree from the bill. I would love to return and check out happy hour... I came here around 11:45 AM on a Friday and booked through OpenTable, though honestly, reservations didn't seem necessary at that time. There was plenty of outdoor seating, including a nice shaded area with umbrellas, which made it really comfortable. Parking was easy with plenty of street spots nearby, which is always a plus. Our waitress was phenomenal. She was friendly, attentive, and gave great recommendations. She checked in on us regularly and made the whole experience even better. We ordered a few dishes: * Shrimp Tacos: served as a trio, and easily one of the highlights. The flavors were light, fresh, and just really well balanced. * Hamachi Crudo: this came with a hibiscus sauce drizzled over it, which gave it a unique and slightly floral flavor. The fish was incredibly fresh, and the whole dish felt light and refreshing. * Volcano Tostadas: another standout. The crunch added great texture, and the diced carne asada was flavorful without being greasy. Definitely something a little different in the best way. Overall, everything we had was delicious. The food quality really stood out, and paired with the excellent service, it made for a great experience. What a great find! I hadn't heard about this new restaurant and just happened upon it on Yelp. The food, service and ambiance were all great. They were so accommodating about everything. We asked to be seated in a quiet area and they seated us outside and brought a heater over just for us. Then later the music came on and it got really loud and we asked if they could turn it down a bit and they did so immediately. My lamb came over cooked when I had asked for medium rare. They wisked it away immediately to fix it. The manager came out to apologize and ask if we needed anything while we waited for it to be remade. When it was ready the manager himself delivered it to make sure it was perfect. FANTASTIC service. Our server was sweet and friendly. The bartendar made us some delicious mocktails that were priced lower then the alcohol version which normally we don't get a discounted price for. The two mains we had were the lamb and the short rib. The portion of short rib was huge and tender, melt in your mouth and it came with yummy polenta under it. The lamb was to die for. Just mouth watering. My only complaint is that there was not enough lamb. There were only a few bites of this mouthwatering lamb and I wanted more. I would gladly have paid more for a bigger portion. (I do think the lamb portion needs to be doubled because there was very little of it). Underneath the lamb was a fantastic couscous dish and some eggplant and all with a delicous sauce. I practically licked the plate to get it all. The only disappointing moment was the dessert menu. There were only 3 items and none of them sounded very appetizing. I would have expected some amazing desserts after the to die for meals. We were trying to decide what kind of food theme was being represented so we asked our waiter and he called it "Baja Mediterrean". It had some cool Mediterrean dishes like the lamb but there were also tacos and ceviche on the menu. The menu is electic in a great way and I can't wait to return again. It will be hard not to order the lamb again but I am going to try to force myself to try some of the other appetizing dishes. Pros: Trendy, easy to get a reservation ( although very busy when we got there), organic, seed oil free, gluten free options. Waitress was nice. For the food: Apps are the best part. We got oysters (sauce on side as it is not GF) and the octopus (my favorite dish). We got the aguachile margarita which was fresh and not sweet with spice, perfect. Cons: The second app (octopus) took forever, which set everything back. They finally brought us some fish tacos (that they said they had extra of?). It was a nice gesture but it wasn't gluten free (the waitress knew this) and I couldn't eat any of it. My husband had one because it didn't have mayo sauce (which was a mistake because it supposed to come with a sauce) but really only one person at the table ate it. There were four of us and one doesn't like seafood. Mains: Two of us got the short ribs because of the reviews on here. It was dry and tasted like pot roast. I only ate half. The other person ate it all because she didn't have any apps due to not eating seafood. She was starving because the food came out so late. Skirt steak was fine but no chimmichurri was to be found but again he was starving. It definitely needed salt. Fish: Barrumundi was good according to our guest. Overall, ambiance and concept is nice but it doesn't outweigh the cons. I would have preferred them to ask what we wanted for an extra app or comped the app or a drink or something for the really long wait time for food. It was odd because the tables around us that sat later than us all got their food and left before us. Stopped by at Mia's recently to try their "California fresh food" and left feeling a bit let down. We ordered the Hibiscus Tataki Hamachi, Snapper Ceviche and Scallop Agua Chile. For drinks I got the Maracuya Mule and my friend got the Mia's classic margarita. While my drink was great, my friends order was messed up three times and finally we had to send it back as the bartender couldn't get it right. The food was very average and lacking flavor. The hamachi tasted fishy, I love yellowtail and it was the first time in my life that I didn't feel like eating it. Not sure if it was old or what, but not appealing. The scallop agua chile was the best, but I would have liked it to be a bit more tangy. The taste was a bit too subdued. The snapper ceviche was also a muddle of flavors. Nothing really stood out. So good! I think it's been a quiet opening, we luckily snagged two seats at the bar. The oysters are BOMB, quite honestly the best oysters in all of North County! We also had crispy octopus and the chille relleno with shrimp. Everything was delicious! Bar staff was friendly and attentive. I ordered the house version of an espresso martini and I loved it! The remodel is so smart, way better seating arrangement inside and out. They added lots of booths, very tasteful coastal decor. We desperately needed more restaurants in North County, this is a very welcome addition! We will be back! read more

We were so excited for our dinner at Mia as photos and reviews were promising and we love Mediterranean cuisine. We arrived and were seated but the table and chairs were so dirty and full of crumbs, the host changed our table but without checking its condition which was in the same condition if not worth, after telling her she asked us to wait and she came back with a towel and dusted the sofas. The music was so loud and country music in a Mediterranean restaurant. We ordered food and unfortunately that was kinda disappointing too. The chicken was too dry and the mushroom tacos were meh.. and the flat steak was served with bacon on the top. There is no bacon mentioned on the dish description and I don't eat any pork so this was very upsetting. They replaced it but by then everyone has already eaten and the cheese on top with the chimichurri was too oily and greasy. Very disappointing and upsetting experience. read more

Came here for brunch on a Saturday. The staff was very welcoming and attentive. We tried the octopus which was perfectly cooked and played beautifully. The ceviche had an amazing spicy kick to it. Not too spicy but just enough to allow you to eat more of it. I had the short rib flautas which were very filling. They do have a kids menu which is very basic but a great option for little ones. The decor has been updated from the previous location and it is very bright and inviting. Great place for brunch and to dine with friends or loved ones. So excited to dine here again! read more

A cute little spot in Solana Beach! New, hip, and I'm really glad I tried it. My cocktail -- the carrot passion margarita -- was delicious, and the dip appetizer was great too. Service was quick and attentive, which I appreciated. My only wish is that my lamb and steak had been cooked medium rare as ordered. They came out pretty charred (as you can see in the pic, the bone was BLACK), which was unfortunate because the flavor was actually really good -- the temperature was just off. I'd love to come back and try the octopus, which my server originally recommended but I didn't get to order this time. Definitely next time! read more
