Old Fashioned with freshly-torched rosemary sprig. Possibly the best Old Fashioned ever.
Craig W.

This restaurant has been on my bookmarked list forever. This is part of the same restaurant group that owns the Wise Ox in Carlsbad, which is both a small butcher shop, market, and fantastic sandwich shop. Rare Society has a great happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. but be aware, the place fills up quickly. We arrived at 5:00 p.m. on a Friday night (prime time, of course) and had to be put on the waitlist. It took about 30 minutes to get seated at the bar. If you want to come for dinner, you should book a reservation a week or two out. The decor is fantastic and the service is as good as it gets. The bartenders here are superb. They really know how to make a drink, even if it is off the menu, or non-alcoholic, or their own special creation. If you can sit at the bar and develop a rapport with one of the bartenders, I highly recommend it. We loved the happy hour wedge salad, which we ordered chopped (it is much better this way, really). It is also plenty enough for two to share. The truffle fries were excellent, although they could have been just a tad crispier. The meatballs were good but maybe just a little overcooked. I wouldn't get the meatballs again but I probably would order just about everything else off the HH menu. The regular dinner menu also looks amazing but we didn't stay for dinner. All of the food we saw looked incredible and I didn't see any plates with food left on them. Put this restaurant in Chicago, New York, or San Francisco, and everyone would be dressed to impress. This is Solana Beach so a semi-clean t-shirt and, of course, a baseball hat on far too many customers meets the dress code here. So it goes. The ambiance is still wonderful even if half the customers don't know how to dress properly. I think the pro move is to come for drinks at Happy Hour and then swing over to the main dining room for dinner. I really do not want this place to get any busier than it presently is but I was very impressed.

Honestly, a solid steakhouse located right on cedros in Solana Beach. I have hosted several events here and have dined about 3 dozen times. The steak is awesome, especially if you can get one of the platters. It's worth the price! Also highly recommend the chilled lobster appetizer, it's ridiculously good!

Came here for a birthday. The restaurant made a cute little birthday card for the birthday person and also gave them a gelato at the end of service which was lovely. We had: shrimp cocktail, parkerhouse rolls, fettuccine alfredo, salmon, filet mignon, whipped potatoes and broccolini. Most all of our food was good. The only thing we all did not like was the broccolini. It was actually quite offensive if I'm being honest, just tasted straight burnt and definitely skewed the taste of my steak a little. Our waiter was great. All staff was honestly. Very friendly and attentive. Parking is quite tricky here as there is only street parking so would recommend showing up at least 15 mins before your reservation just in case you have to hunt for parking.

We decided to come back here and try the Happy Hour items we have not yet had the opportunity to experience. We tried the iceberg wedge, the harissa skewers, the meatballs, and the brussel sprouts. For cocktails Old Fashioned and Negroni. The brussell sprouts were fantastic with crunchy pieces of tortilla chips. The salad was incredibly fresh and well dressed The skewers might be my favourite. Beautifully seasoned. The meatballs were in a spicy bbq sauce. Yum! Service was attentive, but not annoying. The ambiance is always calm and appealing. We sat outside at the bar.

What an incredible heaven on Earth experience for all you carnivores out there. Amazing selection of meats. Their Parker rolls are to die for, melt in your mouth bread garnished with truffle butter is a must for an appetizer. Then jump into the executive board. No questions asked. Phenomenal romantic setting an even greater service. Everything about this place sets the tone for a romantic evening

What an amazing experience. Took my daughter here for a father daughter experience on a busy night and the experience was exceptional. From the staff to the food. Every bite was spectacular. Had the lobster and oysters and bacon. Wow! Then we had... of course steak. Ribeye for me and filet for her. Perfectly cooked as ordered wnd delicious. I can tell you it's been a while since we had such a good experience starting with the friendly hostess. Can't tell you how many times the hostess ruins your evening at the beginning. This girl was perfect and super friendly and accommodating. Rare Society was on the top of their game.

We had a very special meal at Rare Society. We started at the bar, with perfect service and an equally amazing martini. When the rest of our group arrived, we moved to a comfortable table and ordered everything on the menu. My NY Strip was cooked perfectly. All the sides were chose were delicious. Our server was fantastic at helping our group choose the right number of dishes. We had wonderful wine as well and ended the evening with melt in your mouth desserts.

Easily one of my favorite steakhouses in all of San Diego. They have two locations in San Diego and at least one in Orange County and another up in Santa Barbara. Inside has a very 1920s to 30s look in the best sort of way and it is really classy and hip. This location is fairly new and a bit smaller than the South Park one, but I honestly loved it and I was worried about sound crossover from the other tables, but it was honestly pretty quiet even though every table was booked. Parking in the area is very easy. We were able to find a free street spot right out front. Our server was very polite and everything came out very fast. It is a bit expensive but the food quality and taste is there. They have a pretty large menu filled with all sorts of great options, but they're most famous for steak. For my dinner I started off with the Steak Tartar and honestly loved it. It was a great mix of flavors and the salt and vinegar chips with it were a perfect combination. For my entrée I ordered the Cedar River Prime Bullseye Ribeye (16oz) and really liked it. Sometimes ribeye is too fatty and chewy but this one was perfect and had really rich and deep flavors. I also ordered a side of the Broccolini and the Sumac Yogurt was an incredible combination. I'm a big fan of sumac so if you are too, you would love it. I really want to order dessert after my meal, but I was pretty full once finishing. I will definitely be back soon to try more items and I'm a big fan of this restaurant.

I went here twice in the same week. I tried out their Espresso Martini. I had a second round of their wedge salad and bananas fosters cheesecake. My girlfriend got a gimlet. We both loved our drinks and food was just as delicious as the first dining experience. Service was fantastic and they kept the patio warm and comfortable during our dinner here. This might just be my new favorite spot to dine in Solana!

Petite Tower

Very classy experience and fantastic service. Rocky was our server and he did a great job explaining the menu, how everything worked and how large everything would be. And very attentive. He made sure we would want for nothing. Open kitchen so you can see the food being prepped and made. Forgot to get pictures of the appetizers but the house rolls and blue crab dip are fantastic especially when paired together. Swordfish was cooked very well and the sauce was amazing. The petite tower was quite delectable with a nice variety of oysters, crab, shrimp, and lobster along with salmon poke and ahi tartare. The potato au gratin was strong in flavor and the broccolini came on a complimenting sauce, all delicious. Topping the night off with the creme brulee which was very faintly burnt on one side but still very nicely toasted brulee. 100% recommend this restaurant for any occasion. Planning on going back to try more for sure. Thank you Rocky!

16oz Ribeye Oscar Style

My wife and I stopped I for happy hour cocktails and dinner! The bar staff was welcoming, friendly and treated us like family! They were very attentive and made amazing cocktails! We ordered a wedge salad and ribeye steak Oscar style and WOW! Cooked to perfection, seasoned well and came to the table hot! The restaurant is open and airy with a neighborhood vibe! A DEFINITE MUST REPAEAT! Great job guys!

This review is overdue, but that's what happens when you become a new mom. I was super lucky and won a $250 dinner from @Sdfoodies on Instagram here. Oh man, I was so excited. I haven't gone out in so long because taking care of a tiny human is hard! Anyways... This restaurant is so elegant, clean, and romantic. Honestly it's a great spot for date night. The steak is great and so was the seafood tower. Surprisingly, we loved the seafood tower the most! The sauces that came with the oysters and the steak were to die for. The drinks are strong and delicious too. Our server recommended the rolls and oh my gosh, don't skip out on those if you love bread! Soo good. I would totally come here again. Shout out to the amazing staff here for taking care of us.

The food was good and had some great options. We tried the famous or popular bread. We were told we had the last one mind you we showed less than an hour before closing. We had a few appetizers like the crudo and tartare both great and fresh. We also had 1/2 dozen raw oysters and 1/2 dozen of the broiled oyster they were great as well nothing to complain about. We had some friends join us at the start of the meal that were also staying in the solana beach area. The waitress helped us with that without hesitation or a problem. I ordered the old fashion and the Coronado brewing IPA my wife had ice tea. The old fashion la led effort aside from the garnish it had nothing special. I can honestly say that I can make a better one at home. The bad review is because when we left the guy cleaning up the bar area was upset to be there late after hours and said something rude as walked out. Not sure that it was the Bar tender but matches with the bad drinks. He said go on get out of here as one of the employees cleaning up told us to have a good night. He was facing away as he said it and I could be hearing things. The ambience was loud and friendly over all.

Yes, of course. You might not see many but the ambiance is set to accommodate big groups. Hopefully this is helpful.

Casual. Laid back, chill vibe. Come as you are.

Is there a kids' menu?

Not to my knowledge there isn't but plenty of options for the kiddies to pick & choose from.

Solana Beach location is noisy. It's a very happening place.

Are there walk-in tables available in the bar area or is everything reserved?

Walk in tables is about half the restaurant (bar).

I'm glad we arrived early at 5:30 for dinner because the crowd really starts to build after 6 p.m. This visit was for a special occasion, as it was my sister's birthday. We ordered the crab cakes and the pasta Bolognese, both of which were delicious. The fish and chips were also better than what you find at most restaurants. The lightly battered fish was crispy yet light, and the French fries were nicely seasoned and crunchy. Jackson was always attentive in clearing our plates, which I appreciated since we had a very small table. Vinny, our server, was consistently attentive and made the whole experience feel relaxing and enjoyable. The patio seating is very visible from the street, which adds to the lively atmosphere. Overall, the prices felt very reasonable for the quality of the food.

From the outside, it appears rather small, which is why I was surprised by its size when I visited; the restaurant extends deeply inwards, so it is bigger than expected. At night, the atmosphere is also very fun and lively, even on a weekday. Parking isn't fun, but street parking and (paid) structure parking are options. I came here recently for a work dinner, and I just needed to make one or two loops. And before I delve into the food, I want to give a quick shoutout for the great service we received all night! Our waiter was very diligent and attentive; he made sure to provide updates when items were stalled. Several of us had to leave early, and so he made sure to get us to-go containers so we could take our food home. Okay, now for the food! Appetizers: - Ahi Poke Wontons: 7/10. The wonton chips were crispy and not oily at all. The sweet ginger was a bit overpowering, though. - Salt & Pepper Shrimp: 6/10. I'm not a huge fan of shrimp, but these were good! A bit crispy, and very large! This was my coworker's favorite appetizer. - Grilled Steak Skewers: 8/10. Delicious! The herb marinade was subtle, but it added that extra punch to some already tender steak. I get easily icked out by beef, but the size of these bites made it easily palatable. - Crab cakes: 9/10. My favorite bite of the night!! Although the crab flavor wasn't super pronounced, it was delicious. The crispiness of the exterior paired nicely with the soft filling. I think I had like four of these by myself. Starter: - Baby gem caesar salad: 5/10. Kinda mid salad. I mean, it's good, but nothing memorable. It looks kinda sad since there was no protein. Entree: - Sesame-crusted king salmon. 8/10. Very nice presentation! I love the way they cooked their heirloom baby carrots. The shoyu butter was pleasant without being overwhelming. The salmon filet was a good size, too. Dessert: - Chocolate brownie: 9.5/10. I'm easy to please with desserts! This was so yummy! The cold vanilla ice cream and warm chocolate brownie combination is hard to mess up. Obviously, it is very sweet, but my sweet tooth loved it. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at Sibicca. I would recommend it, and I can see myself coming back!

Cooked perfectly and the chef had a really refined taste. The portion was perfect. Not super filling where my stomach is bursting but enough to be satisfied. The only negative was the truffle fries were mid, you can't really taste the truffle flavor it needed more. Our waiter was the best! He was so funny and making jokes with us, it really helped lighten the atmosphere. He was also very informative on the food, giving us great details and recommendations! He was always prompt to refill water without being asked! They also have me a free dessert for my birthday! I also like that they didn't sing (it's always so embarrassing) so that's a plus for me! There's valet parking for $10, or you can park on the street, or there's meter parking in the same parking lot, so you have a lot of options. Price was on the expensive end for the price. I understand it's fine dining but, $40+ dollars for 3 scallops is a bit much.. Overall, a great spot for a date, to celebrate a special occasion, would not come too often unless I'm rich.

Everything I tried felt thoughtfully prepared and well balanced. The cucumber margarita was incredibly refreshing with a bright cucumber flavor and just the right touch of sweetness. It was crisp, light, and perfect for the setting. The seaside molcajete was a standout dish for me. It is a hearty seafood stew served bubbling hot and packed with different kinds of seafood. So we took the coast and enjoyed the long way to the restaurant so we could get there at the right time. No issues parking, but we went during a slow time. It's off steet parking, there's not a parking lot, but again we found plenty of spots right in front of the restaurant. They have pretty and colorful decor. Fun lights and beautiful flowering tree coverage. Seating is outdoors so dress accordingly. I knew this because we've enjoyed dining here a few times, so I actually used my little throw blanket. It's causal but some Couples dress up and eat here too. Server was great. He was tentative and nice. I knew I wanted the shrimp causa and my daughter's favorite Peruvian dish is Lomo saltado, so thatd what she ordered. He told us about the specials so we went with trying the baked scallops. I'd asked for 2 and he accidentally brought 4 but immediately realized and without us having to even ask, he offered to take the extra two off. So grateful he caught that. My daughter doesn't like scallops and I just wanted to try them. I like sea scallops but these were bay scallops. I never asked so I shouldn't have assumed. It was a tasty appetizer, talked my daughter into trying it but she wasn't interested to try more. She loves Parmesan cheese and there was a lot but she wouldn't attempt the scallops. They were not under nor over cooked. I'm not sure what made it taste so unique but we both agreed we've never tasted anything like it. The shrimp causa wasnt the same flavor as months months ago. We don't live near so it's been a while since we've tried it. The alioli was a lot spicier than ever but still had good flavor but the causa was dry. But I had a side of alioli to help with that. Shrimp was tasty. Several other restaurants shrimp has been tasting off for months but this place shrimp tasted better. The Inca and chicha were delicious. I miss the cut up apple they use to put in it but still tastes fresh. Lomo Saltado was just two huge potato wedges and very few rice. Look at the photo. We did not eat any of it yet. This is the portion. It had good amount of jugó but the flavor wasnt like anything we'd tasted in Peru. BUT there's many many areas in Peru and we've only lived in a few and have only visited a handful more so just because it's not like any lomo we've tasted, doesn't mean it's not Peruvian. My daughter still liked it. It was high soy sauce and high vinegar taste. Lomo has both, but it was missing the cumin and flame flavor for me. We don't like potato wedges at all but she cut it up and made due with it. We were sooooo hungry from all day at the zoo so we almost finished all of it. None of the dishes are repeats for us but again, they taste good, just not the flavors we are use to, it's been a while so maybe that's why the causa and lomo tasted different. The server asked how is everything, im sure if we had said something he'd probably sought to help, but really it is what it is. I just think they cook differently then what we have had living in Peru. My husband had the seco here time ago, it's was incredibly delicious. He loves lamb. It was cooked perfectly and the frijoles were delicious as well. I hope the decide to put that dish back on the menu. Please. Not every visit is gonna go perfectly, that's not possible. Still a fun colorful restaurant with great service. Plates had great presentation. Not long at all ago I enjoyed the ceviche. I was just too cold to get it this time. Gonna got for it next time. Another couple got a huge salad. It looked so good, imma look for it on the menu next time.
