Hula Pie
Crissy W.

Here again for my birthday on a warm Hawaiian feeling day. Love the Hula Pie and this view. Came here for a delicious Sunday brunch. We had reservations but waited an extra 20 minutes to get a table by the window. The host at first didn't sit us by the window after our wait. I then said, "What about that table by the window?" She replied, "There are people waiting for that table." I shared I thought that was us. She then told us to walk to the front of the restaurant to figure it out. I guess she got the OK and we got the table we waited for. It's worth the wait, although most of the tables are great. Of course we'll be back.

Coconut Espresso Martini

Amazing!!!:D this espresso martini is by far the BEST! IVE EVER HAD! The coconut purée was house made! The burger was perfectly cooked! And nothing beats their Brussels sprouts Come here during sunset! The views are incredible! The interior design of this place really ties in the perfect beach vibes! The bartenders make incredible drinks and are very attentive!!

Hula Pie with the dessert-specific spork!

This was the best dinner we have had in a long time. Service was super attentive and the food was spot on. We started the meal with the Brussels sprouts and calamari. The calamari was so light and crisp but the slightly spicy chili sauce was the star. Best calamari I've ever had! For dinner, we had the scallops and ahi tuna. The ahi was seasoned to perfection and the sides were also great, but the best dish of the night was the scallops. They were perfectly seared and silky on the inside. We finished the meal with the Hula Pie which we split between 3 people. It was delicious and I especially loved the spork it was served with. All in all, a great dinner and we will definitely be back!

Huevos Rancheros* and Eggs Benedict*

One star awarded for the gorgeous view. Brunch however- not so gorgeous. Food was actively off-putting. My company reported that the avocado toast was, to word it nicely, hard to eat. Bread was stale and avocado was nowhere to be found. Huevos rancheros were "mediocre, at best." Among the array of floppy eggs Benedicts and sans-avocado toasts was the stomachable seafood chowder. Hip-hip! Horray! Anyways, I will not be returning to Jake's anytime soon. Certainly not for brunch.

Food: Great service and nice patio setting. Ordered Calamari for an appetizer,. At first I thought they were bringing mozzarella sticks but the calamari is in strips, heavily breaded with a sweet sauce, it's good. I ordered the cosmetics chowder with bread, it was delicious. My friend ordered the short ribs with mashed potatoes. We both ordered drinks and finished our dinner with dessert, ice cream mud pie, it was delicious! Service: Excellent, friendly and professional Ambiance: Beautiful views if in the patio Noteworthy: Valet available since e parking is difficult in the street

Everything about my experience at Jake's was amazing. The views, the food, and the service were all top notch. Our beverages and food all came out reasonably quick. Will definitely be going back again

Whole experience was awesome! Got a great table by a window - can't beat a dining experience with a breeze and a view! Went with a group of 5 and everyone loved their drinks and meal! We shared a lot of the apps - all of which were great! And of course, can't skip dessert! I would recommend this place and go back the next time I'm back in San Diego!

The food here was delicious hands down. You can tell every dish they make is fresh with fresh ingredients. I got the salad and it was soooo good. Everything you get here is top tier. It's on the pricier side but I think it's worth it. The views are beautiful, the service is quick. It's a perfect spot for a date night or a date lunch

Pecan crusted Seabass, with brown rice and bok choy

Where do I start? This is the spot if you're looking for a good time chilling at the bar, or bring your date out for a romantic dinner around sunset! And if that is the plan, get there a little early and ask for a window seat. Keep in mind, depending on time, the party before you may hang back for dessert and watch the sunset prior to leaving, and to be honest, I don't blame them lol. One other disclaimer, Valet parking here is less expensive at $10, versus public parking across the street for $26 for 2 hours. Now onto Jake's, from the moment we walked in, the greeters were very nice and welcoming! We sat at the Bar while we waited for our window seat, the bartender was cool, and knowledgeable about the drinks, and our 2 drinks were dangerously tasty! Our server when we got seated to the busboy were all friendly, our server Juda was very knowledgeable about the menu explained everything to the "T", and explained the off the menu specials to my wife and I, that made us want to actually try a few of the items (pictured in my post). The view of the ocean by our seat, to the food, to the vibe were all A+. Would definitely be back, when we're back in the area. Thank You!

The view from the table!

Jake's is a staple in my restaurant rotation! I can always count on great service, wonderful ambiance and delicious food. We started with the brussel sprouts which are SO insanely wonderful then had some of the prosciutto wrapped prawns which were good. I ordered the spice crusted ahi which was cooked perfectly, our server Todd was happy to accommodate my request for no rice, extra veggies. We finished off with the cheesecake which was exceptional (which you don't really expect with a restaurant cheesecake to be honest). Overall such a wonderful place that I keep coming back to.

We have been to Jake's several times for brunch, but not for dinner. With as much coastline as SD County has, there aren't a lot of good restaurants on the beach - especially that are at a decent price point - but Jake's is in such a nice spot! The traffic around there can be a nightmare, so plan to go a little earlier than you think you should. They do offer valet parking for a fee, which we have used some of the times we went. Once you get in though, the views are very nice. I suggest making reservations, especially if you want a closer seat to the windows. Overall I think the food there is always pretty good, and the brunch prices are reasonable. The service can be hit or miss, but most times it's been good. Jake's is a great place to take those out of town visitors who want to take in all the ocean views. Hopefully we will make it for dinner one of these days!

This is, and always has been, one of my favorite places in all of San Diego. The first went here with my wife back in 2002. It was amazing then and it's still amazing now. We went to Jake's last week with a big party from work, and the service was fantastic, and the food was as good as I remember it. I'd highly recommend this to anyone visiting.

My review is based on my lunch experience. I came here for lunch today. On a Thursday. Got seated right away in the back by the windows. Beautiful beach views. I ordered calamari to start and Burger with fries. The calamari was amazing. My server Tia said it was delicious and it sure is. The server is very hospitable. The calamari was nice and crispy and not chewy. The Birger was ordered medium. It was cooked perfect with avocado. I saw it in a picture and it didn't disappoint. The fries were crispy and seasoned just right. I definitely want to come back for dinner

Do they have a private room to rent for 20-25 diners?

Jake's doesnt currently book large parties or events, but it has information on discussing a future event https://jakesdelmar.com/plan-an-event/

Do they have happy hour?

No but they have a brunch menu on the weekends

Valet or self parking?

Yes, it has valet for 7 dollars at jakes, public parking across the street in a lot more.... Go with valet......

What is the corkage fee at Jake's? Thank you!

I believe it is $15.00/bottle

Do you have a patio?

Yes they have a patio that overlooks the water

Do you have breakfast during the week?

Only on Sundays.

Kid-friendly? Can accommodate a big group (~20)?

You would need to make advance plans for a large group. It is a very popular place, and even with a reservation, you can expect to wait. I do believe they have a kids menu but I did not see any children there when we dined there.

Do they have happy hour?

I believe they do, I just have been there for lunch YUM and WONDERFUL in every way.

What time is The happy hour specials?

I am not sure since COVID but it was at 5, go at 5:30 and you will not be disappointed.

What their specialty/ what dish you recommend to eat for dinner?

Three things to recommend: Achiote Roasted Fish; Crusted Ahi; Seared Scallops. A personal favorite is the Fresh Fish Caesar Salad when they have the grilled Norwegian salmon. I order my fish grilled medium rare, which they do nicely.

Yes, especially if you are seated by the beach front windows or on the patio

Can our dog comej?

I'm not sure but usually on the patio it's ok.

Do you have to make reservations?

Yes I wouldn't go without one. They might take a few walk ins but this is a reservation spot! Just use OpenTable and it's pretty easy.

Is it dog friendly?

Unless you have a service dog than definitely not. This is a place that is indoors and most people get dressed up to go. There isn't a large patio area and it's upscale. You may want to try a more casual location! Service dogs are accommodated… Read more

There was a lot of seating available so we were seated immediately. The restaurant also takes reservations, and the waiter told us that it does tend to get busier during dinnertime. They have happy hour every day from 3-6pm. Their lunch and dinner menus are different. Ambience was chill and had beach vibes; diners were dressed in nice casual attire (matching the beach vibes). Our waiter, Francisco, was fantastic. He was very friendly and attentive and gave multiple detailed recs and thoughts on all parts of the menu, which were way more recs than I've ever received at another restaurant. His personal favorite was the Seaside sandwich, which naturally we ordered, along with a side of salad. It was really good! The fish was very crispy on the outside and very flaky, soft, and flavorful on the inside. The rest of the burger/sandwich was also very flavorful. It has habanero honey mustard, which is supposed to give it some kick but I didn't notice anything spiciness (I have moderate spice tolerance?). The side of house salad was a good standard salad. We also shared the crispy chicken sandwich. It was indeed very crispy, but we both thought it was too greasy and not as flavorful as the Seaside sandwich. It came with a side of French fries, which tasted great; they were also freshly fried, crispy, and seasoned with Italian herbs. Would love to come back to try their happy hour menu! Also they have a small parking garage located underneath their building. There is some street parking available. We didn't have any issues finding parking. Granted, this was Thanksgiving weekend.

Which is what brought us to Beeside Balcony in Del Mar during the 1st SDRW of 2026. We had Saturday night reservations & got into town early with some time to kill. We found nearby street parking fairly easily. The hostess was able to quickly accommodate us with a table despite our early arrival. Indoor dining space is minimal. But as an upstairs restaurant with "Balcony" literally in its name, the outdoor patio is where you want to be. Our server was a inconsistent on attentiveness & was slow to warm up, though she was quite personable later in the meal. Along with all of the al fresco charm dining on the balcony offered, there was also a curious & less desirable element of the ambiance. During our meal, someone went around shooting pics/ videos for social media. It felt distracting & intrusive. While the SDRW menu was what brought us here, we opted for the Chef's menu after looking over all the options. I ordered the Salmon Croquette/ Denver Steak/ Churros. She ordered Cioppino Soup/ Barramundi/ S'More Cake. Although the pacing of our courses from the kitchen was uneven, most of what we had was good to great to wonderful. Sharing tastes of our dishes with each other, the 1 egregious miss for me was the Cioppino Soup. The seafood in it was good. But that broth was not. Aside from that, the Salmon Croquette & the Barramundi were delicious. The Denver Steak was a revelation. I'd never heard of this cut before, so I looked it up. Truly, a bang for the buck all star. & prepared perfectly here with a fantastic chimichurri. For our desserts, my Churros were good but not anything to get particularly excited about. Now, on the other hand, that S'More Cake? Wow. insanely indulgent with an ooey-gooey center. I honestly can't think of a better way to end a meal. Overall, the ambiance, service, & food all had highs & lows. Collectively, though, the sum total of the experience was pleasant enough that I would be interested in coming back. My threshold for 4 stars is if I'd come back. So, 4 stars it is.

I remembered people telling me about the Brigantine, which happens to only be 4 min. from where we were. Since it is a Saturday, I was afraid it would be busy. They only have Valet at this restaurant, so if you come on a busy day and don't want to valet, you may be stuck trying to find beach street parking across the street... and let me tell you... at 12:30pm, it's next to impossible without a hefty wait, driving around unless you have some luck! We opted to Valet, and it was only $10. The valet was very nice and welcoming! Super quick. We entered the building and immediately saw the view. The hostesses welcomed us and asked if we had reservations. We didnt, and she said they are full at the moment but we can have a seat anywhere in the bar area. There were MANY open tables along with the bar seating. We opted for the 4-top on the far right side next to the fireplace. It was a half booth with 2 chairs. From here, we had a great view of the Del Mar Race tracks AND the lagoon to our right. I noticed they have a wrap around patio that has a small wrap-around shelf like table so that you can place your drink or food on. I can imagine the outside gets packed...but at 12:30pm on a Saturday, it actually was pretty open! We waited a bit and were greeted by our server who gave us the bar menu and regular lunch menu. When he came back, we ordered an IPA and a 9oz. Seaglass Riesling along with the half dozen oysters and 3 baked oysters. Our drinks quickly came out, and shortly after that, our oysters. The oysters were WONDERFUL. They came with lemon and a condiment cup of cocktail sauce with a dab of horseradish in the middle. Honestly? Thats all you needed. They were fresh and so tasty. The baked oysters were good. I preferred the chilled but my boyfriend really liked both. When our server came back, we ordered our entrees. I ordered the signature grilled marinated swordfish and my boyfriend got the lobster tempura tacos. Food took a bit of time...but with that view? You really dont mind. Once it all came out, we saw they were nicely plated. The flavor of BOTH dishes were great. The ONLY thing I noticed was the cook on my swordfish as it was dry BUT since it had an herbed butter on top...it definitely helped save the dish. We both finished our whole plate haha our server brought the dessert menu, and we chose the Brig Mud Pie. It was a SOLID way to end our meal. It could easily feed 4 people sharing...but since we have a sweet tooth, we finished it. I 100% recommend checking this spot out. Their views are gorgeous and the food is good. Again, keep in mind the parking and if you have a specific area you want to sit, make sure to make a reservation. Other than that, enjoy!

It came with 6 huge, tender, perfectly cooked and seasoned scallops and an extraordinarily delightful sauce. I held onto the sauce for my steak! We each got a steak- petite filet mignon medium rare for me, and bone-in ribeye rare for my husband. They were cooked exactly as we ordered and absolutely scrumptious. At the end we got the Triple Chocolate Bomb which was rich, decadent, and gorgeous. It also came with a very personal touch - a note written in Chocolate on the plate! The lack of cleanliness was immediately noticeable--from how staff moved between tasks to the overall condition of the workspace. For a food establishment, the absence of basic hygiene awareness was deeply concerning and hard to ignore as a customer sitting there watching it unfold. The attitude of the staff made the situation worse. There was a consistent tone of irritation, impatience, and indifference toward customers. Simple interactions felt unwelcome. No courtesy, no attentiveness, no effort to create a respectful or pleasant environment. It gave the impression that standards--both for service and conduct--are simply not enforced. Unfortunately, the food reflected the same lack of care. It was excessively greasy, heavy, and unpleasant, with a taste that raised real concerns about preparation quality. I couldn't finish my meal, and I left feeling uneasy rather than satisfied. What stood out most was the overall feeling that cleanliness, professionalism, and customer experience are not priorities here. When a restaurant shows this level of disregard in both service and food handling, it completely undermines trust. This is not a place I would return to or recommend. There are far better options for anyone who expects basic hygiene, respectful service, and food prepared with care.
