Had a great meal at High Marea. It's refreshing to find a spot that's actually doing things right with clean ingredients and no seed oils. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The grilled shrimp were perfectly cooked, the steak was flavorful and tender, and the sides were crisp and vibrant. You can tell they care about both quality and health, which is rare these days. Also want to give a shoutout to Ana at the counter, who was super nice and welcoming and made the experience even better. I had some difficulty locating High Marea at the Del Mar Plaza because the business directory did not have this place listed. After parking in the underground structure, I emerged on the sidewalk to look for this restaurant. Eventually, I found it on the street level next door to a popular breakfast/brunch spot facing Camino Del Mar. On the awning were the words 'Coastal Surf and Turf.' A sign next to the entrance advertised that no seed oils were used and items were cooked in tallow. Both seem to be popular trends nowadays although that hasn't swayed me at all. The suite had an interior decor reflective of the Sonoran desert. A few outdoor tables were available adjacent to the sidewalk while the inside dining area could seat about 40 customers. You place an order at the counter and then a numbered placard is given to you to take to a table so a worker can identify your party to bring the food/drink. The menu offerings ranged from burgers, bowls, chicken wings, salads, tacos, and shareables. Two tacos (fried fish, grilled fish) made up my order. They were served on organic corn tortillas dressed with jack cheese, crema slaw, lime pickled onion, and fire roasted salsa. The tacos were a little larger than street size and cost $18 for the pair which was pricey. The tortillas were soft, and you could tell they were hand pressed. The salsa was provided in a cup to the side, however I didn't use any as the slaw and pickled onion added enough contrast to each style of fish. The crunch was decent on the fried fillet, but I did prefer the grilled variety. The service from the staff was pleasant. A complimentary shooter of their homemade bone and shrimp broth was provided after I paid for my order. I appreciated the sample which was warm and nutritious. My weekend lunch at High Marea was at a four star level. read more

This place was a random Sunday dart throw for us. We live in the area and are in the plaza all the time. My wife is not a Burger fan but she LOVED the smash burger here (well a few bites of mine anyway). She had the Brick Chicken (also delicious but slightly dry for those who are super picky about that kind of thing - I wouldn't have noticed it but my wife caught it). The food here hits the spot! One of the guys behind the counter brought out a bone and shrimp broth aperitif with a little like. It was wonderful. The place has a nice open floor-plan that "kind of" encourages chatting with others. We chatted with a few others eating who were equally impressed. Plastic plates kind of cheapen the experience but can be overlooked for all the rest that hits just right (even the Country Music playing is perfect - and we rarely listen to Country). The burger comes with bacon jam, cheddar cheese, chipotle aioli, and a toasted brioche bun, which creates a really rich, savory flavor combination which was also had some spice! The flavors are elevated so it's not the average burger. You can get it as a single or double, I opted for a single patty burger and it was filling. The ambiance is nice. There is an option to sit inside or outside. Outside was packed with no seating so I sat inside. The service was great! Loved the staff. read more

As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with smiling faces and a welcoming atmosphere. Knowing they cook with clean ingredients, was a huge reason we made the trek from Vista. We had the fried fish tacos (pictured), tallow fries and smoked arrachera steak tacos. Everything tasted amazing. From the homemade tortillas, to the seasoning on the tender, juicy steak and the flavorful fresh fish taco. Left us wanting more for sure! This place is a gem. 10 out of 10. It was our first time coming here and we will be back. It was nice to try a couple different things. The surf and turf fries were absolutely delicious. The shrimp were fresh and a great size. The fries were crispy and not greasy. This was my favorite. The chips were fresh and light, the salsa had great flavor. The menu is pretty large for this cute new add! The staff and service were amazing- you order at the counter but the staff is so attentive- when we forgot to grab silverware the team went to grab it for us asap. Bonus for beer lovers- Pliny is on tap! Free parking in garage for an hour- we had the burger and a burrito. Lastly, there is a great happy hour from 3pm to 5pm (with live music) with some awesome specials. Great add for the neighborhood! read more

Pretty solid all around. The beans omg good. Fries are good. Very celiac / gluten free safe. My fish taco was solid, their salsa verde top notch, smoked pork taco was even better. Shrimp plate was tasty. Burger looked really good but didn't get to try. Wings are crispy and delicious, got the hot honey which is a bad description cuz they're like a spicy dry rub with some nutty flavor I could piece together. Super solid. The wing dipping sauces (we tried all 3) could use some work tho. The elote was also really good and a solid portion with a lotta guac. Only note on that is I'm not sure what the chipotle crema is but I'd like something more interesting with some more kick, chipotle crema is like wasabi aioli or a chocolate lava cake I'm just always out. Only true negative I'd say is the two taco place for $16-20 should def come with a side option or just with a smaller portion of rice and beans. Don't make people not want to come over something small like that. You can legit put a quarter cup of each on the plate and it'll make it feel like it's not complete highway robbery. They're delicious tacos but over time a lotta ppl are going to stop coming over little things like that. If I want rice and beans on the side it's now a $30 taco plate. :// Would have loved a more exciting dessert option than creme brulee but I get it, it's popular. You get a mango or guava flavored tres leches going I'd be buying. Really solid drink selection. Star of the show was Joe at the counter. He legit picked up on our vibe and made the experience so much better. Employees like him add value that most owners can't comprehend. A snooty impatient host could have tanked this experience. All the food we've tried was fresh and flavorful, with lots of attention to detail-- standouts for me were the elote and the surf and turf fries. I would get anything with the arrachera or the tortillas/tortilla chips (I think the staff said that they make their own masa). The beer selection is not huge but good -- they have Pliny the Elder on tap! And between this place and Valley Farm next door, they have some of the nicest, friendlier staff around. When a friend told us the citrus chicken at HM is the best thing she has ever tasted, we decided to give it a try. We understand what she meant. Unbelievable!! Returned next day to bring friends for their birthdays. The fish, chicken (citrus!) and shrimp tacos were exceptional, enhanced by the generous bowls of guacamole we ordered. Anna was a warm and welcoming hostess and brought out excellent desserts as a surprise for our guests - the birthday folks. The owners were there today and - just so they know - they have raised the bar on authentic, insanely delicious Mexican fare. Congratulations! We will definitely be regulars. The tacos could use a little less slaw but the meat is insanely tender and 2 tacos was rather filling. The wings are crispy, juicy, and the cherry bbq is amazing! Also, homemade ranch is a bonus. We stopped by this restaurant later in the afternoon. It's looks relatively new. The food we had was fantastic. I had the Sonora Bowl and added the grilled fish as a protein. The vegetables and flavors were great, with just enough kick to keep it flavorful without being overpowering spicy. My wife had the tacos and they were fantastic. We also got some chips (some of the best tortilla chips I had and got the fire salsa (which is what is sounds like, very spicy!). We sat outside and had a nice view of the ocean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our food came out super quick. I live nearby and so far, I've dined in once and have gotten takeout several times. This is a local gem! I've had the shrimp skewers platter, the chicken tacos, chips and guac and the half citrus chicken plate. My daughter has had the Caesar salad. The food is super high quality. The tortillas are homemade with a mix of blue and yellow corn. I've loved everything that I've ordered. My husband is stoked that they carry Pliny the Elder.
