Service was horrible. The owner was rude when we walked in to ask to be seated outside because we brought a dog. Before we could say anything, she rudely said to go wait outside because no dogs were allowed inside. Putting that rudeness aside, we went outside- only to wait 10 minutes before someone came over. And there was only party of 3 at the restaurant! We ordered a curry and a noodle dish and now wish we would've just taken our first inclination and left before ordering because the food was just barely ok at best. Thai Society has been around for years and shame on me for not trying it until last week. We used to go to Siamese Basil, which closed well over ten years ago. I have not been able to find food as good as Siamese Basil until last week when I stopped at Thai Society and I have tried almost every thai restaurant between Solana Beach and Carlsbad. I had the tum yum soup with shrimp, which was delicious... I spent years all over Thailand and Thai Society's soup is as good as any I had in Thailand. I am thrilled I finally tried this place and will be getting take out from them again today. I recommend the Tom Yum soup and the See-Ew, which is what I ordered last week. Decided to try this place for the first time on a Tuesday evening back in March. We've gone a couple more times since then. It's not a big place so it wouldn't be good for large groups. Each time, the employees - especially the ladies who work there, have been so friendly & helpful. The dishes always arrive in a timely manner with good presentation. The food's consistently good, good portions and good price point. We've had pad thai, drunken noodle & some of the different curries. The spice levels have been spot on. Our favorite Thai dessert, sticky rice with mango is different at this place. It's made with a purple rice with a slightly harder texture which tastes ok but not our preference. We've had to go to other Thai restaurants for that. Other than that, it's a good place to get good Thai food. We'll definitely be back. read more

This restaurant is consistently delicious. I come quite often and really enjoy their pad Thai! If I'm ever in the mood for Thai food this is stop number one for me. The staff is amazing a provide the best quality service. The Thai iced tea is always made to order and is fresh/delicious. Lovely place. Small, intimate dining with lots of takeout traffic. Waiter, Tyler, was charming and hospitable. My favorite dish, Pad Woonsen, wasn't on the menu, so I asked if they had it. Tyler said it is off-menu but available. Shrimp had good texture and flavor and was plentiful. Iced water came with cucumber. So refreshing! In short, great food, service and ambiance. I've been eating takeout here for a few years and lately the last few orders have been unedible. The fresh spring rolls had pad thai noodles instead of the usual rice noodles and I got questioned when I tried to explain this to them. The last time I ordered the yellow chicken curry and it was too creamy tasting and lacked the usual Thai flavors. I'm not sure what happened to their food. It's not the same anymore. read more

Emma helped me with my order for lunch one day. My order was to-go and everything was delicious. The pork belly was amazing with a crunchy garlic! And of course the shrimp pad Thai was so very good!!! While I was waiting she had me sit at a table and served me water for my wait. She was super friendly and was the only one working in the dining area/cashier area, so she was really busy bussing tables, taking orders, cashing out peoples checks, delivering food, etc. she really deserves a raise! This place was disappointing. I was looking forward to Thai food and was really excited when I was asked "how spicy, on a scale of 1-10". Things quickly went down hill from there. We ordered from the lunch menu which was a good deal. But more on that later. To start, we ordered the papaya salad. Off of the lunch menu, which boasted soup, salad, and an appetizer, I got drunken noodles with chicken and my boyfriend got "ginger" with chicken. First, it took a while for water to come, and then there was a bug in mine but our waiter quickly replaced it. Then, the papaya salad came out and it was really bland. It tasted like they used watered down fish sauce instead of the real thing. The papaya was fresh and crispy though. Our meal started out with a small bowl of soup. It was some sort of sour broth (really yummy) with clearly frozen peas and carrots. Strange, but tasty enough. The appetizer was what got me. Two pieces of fried wonton wrappers with what appeared to be a single piece of spinach inside. And it came with a dipping sauce. That was strange. Was it a garnish? Some type of crouton? Why was there sauce? Was it supposed to have filling but they forgot? Regardless, I ate it because it was fried and fried things by nature are delicious even when they are void of filling. The salad had a finger dressing which was watery but tasty. My "drunken" noodles were dry and completely sober. The noodles were spicy, which I had asked for, but it didn't taste like there was any drunken flavors in it. My boyfriend's dish was a lot better and saucier and came with rice. TRUST THOSE WHO YELP REGULARLY... Super nice staff, on the phone (Kim) and in restaurant (Emma). We ordered the Drunken Noodle and Yellow Curry with brown rice; spice level 5 on each. I like spice, but feel there was a mixup in the kitchen, or I can't handle their heat. I chose to order a 3rd dish (Pad Thai). Sadly, the food stuck to paper plates & bowls and the plasticware & napkins cheap as can be. "Extra Charge" of $2.00 not explained until after the bill came... it was for the brown rice vs. white rice. Shrimp in the Pad Thai tasted frozen and the Tofu scarce in the Drunken Noodle. Emma & Kim were great; super helpful, friendly, and sweet, but otherwise... I might wait until things are back to normal and this restaurant commits to normal dining expectations. read more

The food is very good but the service is horrible. We made a reservation. When we arrived (early) they told us they had given our table away to someone who had walked in before us (who had not made a reservation). They pulled together a table but then proceeded to not wait on us. We finally were able to order our water and cokes. We told them we had a show to get too in 1 hour 15 mins from being seated. After 15 mins of waiting, they took our order. 45 mins later - no food. We flagged down the server and she said our appetizers were almost ready. She brought the appetizers and we told her we had only 15 mins. She said the kitchen was working as fast as they could (meanwhile we saw them serve 3 other parties who arrived after we had). She went to the kitchen and came back and said we should just leave and they wouldn't charge us for the entrees because they would not be able to get our food ready in time. We said, " we want our food, we are hungry" So we asked for it to go. It took another 15 mins to get it to go and then they mischarged us. It was a frazzling and exasperating experience. We decided the only way to get food at this place is to order takeout. This is not a big restaurant and there were only 5 parties there including us and it is Thai food. It should not be impossible to create a 3 person order of 3 entrees in under 1 hour 15 mins. What a total disappointment. Don't eat in, do take out. Food is good. Three years to the day and of this meal, was IN Thailand. This food had little similarity. The Tom yum soup wasn't even close, almost a tomato based soup, no ginger, lemongrass, galangal, kefir leaves or heat! The drunken noodles were half clumped together and less than average. Not many places have duck as a meat option these days so I was excited to see it on their menu. I ordered the duck special in red sauce and it was so good! Covid-19 grade A+ Pros: Food is some of the best Thai I've had. I've eaten here probably 15 times, never had a big complaint. Cons: heat level of 1-10 can vary assume by the cook working. Health Practice: They have put all the tables in a U shape so you can't come in and they have used it to segregate the orders and section just for Uber eats. For payment they have a tray for your payment, a tray for clean pens and a tray for pens they have used. They have large bottle of hand sanitizer for use. As this virus spreads, it's nice to know some places are doing what they can to not be part of the problem. read more

Came by for late lunch. We were greeted and seated immediately. The ladies that work here are very nice, professional and attentive. We got... Thai boba tea Pumpkin red curry with beef Red curry with veggies The curries came with delicious jasmin rice. Everything was delicious. We sat outside since we had the dog with us. They do have more tables inside. The restrooms are clean which is always a good sign. I had an emergency call so had to pay and leave early without eating even quarter of my dish. As a guy who goes to Thailand regularly, I'm usually disappointed by Thai restaurants in the US...and strangely, especially so in San Diego County. So when my wife and I were out and about, we saw this tucked away, and on a whim, decided to try it. We ordered satay (duh), and I ordered yellow chicken curry, no onion, spice level 20 (based on the usualy 1-10 scale). My wife ordered green curry - after paying, we secured a table and chatted while we waited for lunch. Everything showed up at the same time (I prefer satay comes out first, but that's a nit). The peanut sauce was most excellent, I must say. And the curries, while NOT the spice level I was hoping for (but honestly, not truly expecting), it was still enough to put a small bite on the tongue. I'm not sure that I'd go here for dinner, but for a quick lunch bite, it was definitely worth it. Recommended. read more

Over the past 8 years I've had very iffy experiences with this place. About five years ago when they remade a to go curry for me they passive aggressively added an ungodly amount of chili oil. Another time the curry was over priced, starchy and lacked veggies. Most recent gluten free pad Thai had two bites that were so fishy I almost threw it away but after stirring it it was ok. I know getting the pad Thai gluten free sacrifices some flavor but it really needed the peanuts and lime for flavor. In a pinch this place might do but like I said, after years of occasional patronage, it's iffy. read more

I'm so sad to post this review because precovid this was the best Thai place! I'm not sure if they are struggling and don't have a chef or...but the food was not good at all tonight. Not fresh. The pad Thai was dry and no flavor and noodles were super sticky (like stuck together in lumps). The yellow curry had one small carrot, two very small slices of potato and the chicken wasn't good. I'm so sad. Loved this place before. I know it's hard to hire etc. I just don't love spending $60 to eat below mediocre food. read more

Disappointing. Not impressed with the meal we had. Too much liquid with the stir fried vegetables tofu. It wasn't very tasty and there were too many carrots and not enough broccoli. The See-Ew noodle dish was all mushy and over cooked, like eating oatmeal mush. Calamari appetizer was nicely cooked but seemed to be more kale than calamari. The decor inside is nice, and I liked the indoor fountain. The strip mall location was not conducive to dining in this restaurant. We love Thai food and have been trying different restaurants to find a good one. I admit it, we got spoiled with good Thai living in San Francisco for a while, and we had high hoped based on the reviews. We ordered the satay, cucumber salad, coconut soup and duck curry. I've been searching for duck and was super excited to see it on the menu with lychee instead of pineapple! But when we got it home it went downhill fast. The satay and peanut sauce, cucumber salad were a solid 4-stars although the satay was more chicken lollipops vs. skewers. So I crack open the duck curry and rice, and get my dish all set up and took a bite. Super salty and couldn't really taste the curry at all. I stirred it up thinking maybe it was just that bite...took a few more...nope! It was salty to the point of being inedible. Same with the coconut soup. We called to let them know and ask for a refund, they said they couldn't but would make a fresh batch. We drove all the way back there and got the new food. After explaining it was the way they make it and no changes to the menu or staff, we hoped for better. Not as salty this time, but still not good. You couldn't taste the nuances of the curry and while there was heat, it wasn't a pleasurable experience at all. We can cross this one off our list of Thai in North County even though they do have duck. read more

I'm trying to be kind with my words and not be a negative person, but some places make it so hard. This place is ridiculous. Ordered food - Tom kha to go - and it was literally inedible. It was soooooo salty and tasted like nothing but fish sauce. I called to let them know because a bowl of soup was almost $15 and that's just BS for it to not be edible. The woman on the phone starts arguing w me - telling me that nobody else thinks that... Huh? I don't care what anyone else thinks. They're not buying my dinner. After ten minutes of her arguing with me about how it's not possible that it tastes like fish sauce, she tells me she can't give me a refund but can give me a credit. Ok. That's a lie. Not my first choice but ok. THEN she tells me I can only get the same thing with the credit. Why? I would never order this again if this is their standard recipe. Another three minutes later she finally says I can use the credit for something else. Now...I don't ever really want to go back there and the customer service is a big part of it. Bad food happens. It's not the end of the world. Bad attitudes lose customers. This was my first time and it was a lousy experience all around. So many other Thai places locally with good food and good service. UPDATE: it's like a month later. I didn't post the previous review bc I know people have bad nights. It happens. I don't want to be a jerk. Decided to use my credit today to get Drunken Noodles. Overcooked noodles, barely warm - not hot - zero flavor. They stick a chili packet in with the food, despite my asking for mid-spicy. If I'd wanted to add raw chili sauce at the end I would have cooked myself. Bland, flavorless...really just not good. The people who run this place are nothing short of rude and the food is really...dare I say...just bad. Save yourself the headache and go somewhere else.
