We're we're staying in a hotel near by and's we were craving Thai food, it was pretty late and we were turned away from a few restaurants but called similan and they said they would make it for us! Despite their closing time being only 15 minutes away they were gracious and made all the food so delicious! We brought it back to our hotel room and everyone shared the delicious curries and noodles, and really generous portion sizes as well:)

Pad Thai with Chicken, papaya salad and Tom Kha

First impressions, the interior design of this restaurant is so elegant. It's a smaller restaurant but almost every table was filled. We got greeted and seated right away. We ordered chicken pad Thai, papaya salad and Tom Kha. Everything came out quick and hot. The flavors were amazing. Everything has a distinct different flavor. I think my favorite dish was the Tom Kha it's aromatic, tangy and creamy. It was very comforting to me. The staff were so nice and attentive. They even brought out a kid plate and utensils for my baby to use which I've never experienced before. That was so nice and sweet, more restaurants should have that. This will definitely be a go to restaurant when I'm in solana beach.

Grabbed dinner here with friends last night. Awesome food and vibes! Ordered the tom kha soup to start - it was hot, delicious, and exactly what I needed on a chilly winter night! Also got the Thai Basil chicken dish (also known as Ka Prow in other spots). My friends got the green curry salmon and the pad Thai, and thoroughly enjoyed both. Fantastic flavors and generous portion size. Tons of leftovers for lunch today! Service was great, ambiance is cozy and lovely. Highly recommend!

After living in PHUKET for a year, we have searched for a similar taste. Tonight we found it. The pad Thai was exactly what we had in Thailand and that is amazing. A chicken satay was different because it was cut off the stick, but it taste of it with the cucumbers sauce and the peanut sauce was exactly what we remember. Our friend mama had a food stall at Surin beach that was the spot, and the food tonight reminded us of mama it doesn't get any better than that. Save the trip and the points to Thailand and go to this restaurant.

A solid Thai spot with good portions and well-made dishes. Nothing mind-blowing but everything hit the spot. Panang Curry: Get Definitely the best thing we had. Rich, creamy, and packed with flavor. The chicken was tender and the sauce went great with rice. Glass Noodles with Chicken: Maybe? Nice texture and a light, savory flavor. It was enjoyable, but I usually prefer pad see ew or something a little heartier. Just a personal preference. Papaya Salad: Maybe This one came out very spicy. That was expected, but the balance was off for me. Not enough sweetness or tang to round it out. Still refreshing though. The service was friendly and the place felt clean and relaxed. Pricing was fair for the portions and overall quality. Food: 7/10 Service: 6/10 Atmosphere: 7/10 Value: 7/10

    Mango sticky rice, so tasty!

What a sweet treasure find in this tucked away spot of Solana Beach! It's right across the train station next to a car shop. If you're craving good Thai food, you need to add this to your list. Don't let the front entrance fool you into thinking this is a run down spot. When you walk in, it's beautifully and authentically decorated in Asian style. The seats were a bit worn but all the tables were filled with people chatting and enjoying their food. And the FOOD! Oh they know how to make the Thai dishes I love. We started with the Tom Kha broth, a delicious coconut based soup filled with complex flavors. Pad See Ew noodles, Crying Tiger dish, and Panang Curry filled our main course. The portions were generous, and we gorged ourselves til our bellies cried mercy! And yet, we still had to try their mango sticky rice dessert (what good Thai restaurant would not serve this seasonal delicacy?!) Yes, the sticky rice was soft with just the right amount of sweet and the mangos fresh! So definitely make room for it even when your stomach says no more! So thrilled to have found this local gem!

This is *the* place to go if you're looking for Thai food in Solana Beach. Normally I'm a huge tom kha fan, but their tofu soup is To. Die. For. and I have to get it every time I'm here. The interior is really lovely and it's been calm and quiet every time I've been here. Service is always friendly and not overbearing like some places.

Similan is a very good Thai restaurant in a non-descript little strip mall. Can barely see the sign from the street (see pic). The lunch special is a great value. Comes with a cup of soup, small salad, a couple of egg rolls and the main course. I had the Pad See Ew and it was excellent. Perhaps the best I've had in the US.

We were attending Fiesta del Sol event on Saturday and found this restaurant that was walking distance. We preferred sit down dinner and like Thai food. We went for early dinner and glad we did. The restaurant got busy later. We enjoyed our dinner and the service was excellent. The restaurant ambiance was very nice.

Pad See Ew chicken, Panang Curry
    Angie B.

Small tucked away spot in Solana Beach. Very friendly staff. I got the panang curry sauce and pad see ew. This was the best pad see ew I've had here in San Diego. This dish can seem so dry or light on flavor but the one here was delicious. Panang sauce was very good too. Definitely would return here! Parking is the only tough thing. Very small parking lot.

The fact that they were vegan-friendly immediately earned a spot on my radar. After a long work…read moreweek, I pictured myself enjoying a quiet, peaceful dinner where I could decompress and recharge. Instead, I accidentally walked into what felt like the culinary cousin of a nightclub. The music was pumping, the energy was high, and any thoughts of a tranquil retreat disappeared faster than my appetizer. Maybe it's a completely different vibe during the day, but at night, this place is definitely alive. That said, once I adjusted my expectations (and accepted that my meditation session would have to wait), I had a great time. The restaurant is located inside Sky Deck, an indoor food hall with multiple vendors. Finding it felt a bit like a scavenger hunt since the signage wasn't very obvious, but after asking around, I eventually made my way there. I started with the garlic green beans after seeing another reviewer rave about them, and wow- they were not exaggerating. The dish arrived with a tiny umbrella perched on top, which was both adorable and unexpectedly glamorous for a plate of green beans. This appetizer was small but mighty. Every bite was packed with flavor, and if I hadn't already ordered an entrée, I absolutely would have ordered a second round. For my main course, I chose the Pad See Ew with fried tofu at medium spice. Apparently, their definition of "medium" and my definition of "medium" are not close relatives. This dish came with a kick! Halfway through, I found myself wishing I had ordered something sweet to balance things out. Instead, I bravely faced the spice armed only with hot water and a slice of lime. Um, it was a battle. While the portion size wasn't quite as large as what I've seen at similar restaurants, it ended up being exactly the right amount for me that evening. I left satisfied without feeling overly full. The service was wonderful as well. The waitresses were kind, and the hostess checked in during my meal, which made the experience feel welcoming and attentive. Although I didn't get the quiet, zen-like end to my work week that I had envisioned, I ended up enjoying something different: a fun solo date surrounded by great food, upbeat music, and the infectious energy of the crowd. Sometimes the universe gives you a peaceful retreat, and sometimes it gives you spicy noodles and a soundtrack. This time, I got the latter- and I'm not mad about it.

The braised beef just melts in your mouth! Their Thai Iced Tea was not too sweet and the mango sticky rice was utter perfection! The ambiance was amazing as their decor was not only simply exquisite, but so eye catching and interesting too, and the staff--they were so kind and attentive. You get the kind of service that will make you want to come back. They just make you feel so welcome here. Overall, we're absolutely delighted to have had dinner here and it certainly won't be the last time.

The spring rolls? Outstanding. They were packed with filling, and the peanut sauce deserved its own fan club. I demolished that plate so quickly I think my fork developed whiplash. The pho arrived and I dove straight for the vegetables. Sadly, they seemed less "cooked" and more "introduced to warm broth". It felt like someone gave them a quick pep talk, rinsed them off, and wished them the best of luck. Still, I remained optimistic, thinking the broth would bring everything together. It did not. That broth had enough sodium to negotiate peace between the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans. One sip and I could practically hear my blood pressure filing a formal complaint. I ended up asking my server for hot water to dilute it, and the bowl they brought out was so enormous it made my original bowl of pho look like the kid's menu version. An honorable mention goes to the lime that accompanies the complimentary bean sprouts- the wedge they served was so tiny I thought it was included for emotional support. I gave it my best effort, but the pho ultimately defeated me. I took it home and diluted it even more, hoping to salvage it. Special shoutout to my server Julia, who was absolutely wonderful throughout the entire experience- kind, friendly, attentive, and genuinely warm. Even though the pho and I were clearly not meant to be, her hospitality made the meal much more enjoyable. The spring rolls are a must try if you come in here, but the pho might be anyone's guess (or taste, in this case). My tip would be to have ample drinking water on standby.
