We came here recently after attending an event at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. We were looking for something close by that was rated well, and this seemed to fit the bill, as my friend reccomended it. Plenty of parking, and the place was fairly empty so we got seated pretty quickly. It's very clean and a great spot for a casual night out. We tried the Magic Mike roll and it was excellent, albeit pretty spicy, so beware if that's not your thing. It had no rice, so good if you are staying away from carbs. The sushi tasted fresh and had a really good flavor, and they piled it pretty high. We also decided to try something a bit different so decided on the OMG because it had steak on it. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but it was definitely a change up from your regular sushi roll. I did enjoy it, and the steak was tender, however i think its not something I'd order often. This was the first time i tried Plum wine, and I have to say I'm sold on it. It was very refreshing and had a nice sweet flavor which i really enjoyed. The service here was good, and ot seems to be a spot that has some regular attendees that are loyal to the place and freaky enjoy the food. I definitely will come back to try more of their specialty rolls when I'm in the area, and I wish it was closer to me so i could come more often. Id recommended trying it for sure. read more

Solid sushi spot located right next to the Del Mar Fairgrounds with quick service and a good selection of options. We were seated pretty quickly and our food came out fast, which was definitely a plus. They had some great options that you don't always see everywhere, including Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice and Kizami Wasabi, so I was excited to try a few things. We ordered: Seared Salmon Nigiri -- 8/10: Asked for the salmon to be seared and it came out really good. Definitely one of my favorites of the meal. Miso Soup -- 7/10: Solid and flavorful, but nothing that really stood out. Spicy Scallop Handroll -- 7/10: Good flavor and texture, but I wanted a little more from it. Shrimp Tempura Roll -- 8/10: Crispy, flavorful, and probably my second favorite of what we ordered. Crispy Rice -- 7/10: Good overall and a fun appetizer, but could have used a little more flavor. Overall, I'd give the experience 4/5. The quick service, variety, and quality of the sushi made it a good experience. This place is OK. We came here for dinner on a weeknight and the restaurant was mostly empty. Service was good. Sushi was decent but very pricy. We got sushi sampler, hand rolls, and a couple of rolls and it came out to be almost $150 for two people. For that price point, I would say there are better sushi places. read more

Awful and disappointing. They brought half of our order out and disappeared as fast as possible and never checked in to see if we needed anything. So we just sat around for someone to come outside so we could ask for utensils for the kids. Nope. About 45 -60 mins later we are still waiting for our food and at this point we are annoyed. When we said something they wanted to make it but it was too late for us with small kids. After all of this they had the audacity to charge us for the half order that they served! At least comp something for service recovery. Lastly, the kids chicken teriyaki bowl was super salty and the rice was drenched in sauce. Ambiance was bad too. Visited with some friends after a competition and were had some delicious food. I ordered a no rice roll and it was soo good. The rolls are pretty big, the kids had salmon and chicken tenders with rice. Also ordered miso, it had lots of mushrooms and not tofu. Staff was friendly and we were greeted and seated upon entry. It is not often I write a review for take out food. I had to take the time after ordering a large take out order at the last minute for a birthday. I had not eaten at Ensui before but my son had told me nice things. I want to say the food was excellent. It was on time, beautifully packaged, smelled wonderful, and tasted amazing. I know that take out food can be hard on maintaining quality while you drive home but everyone was so happy with the order and the quality. I will most definitely be back to try in store dining but wanted to thank the staff for helping with a last minute birthday. Really disappointed with our experience. A group of us ate here yesterday, and shortly after, we all started feeling pretty sick with nausea and stomach issues. It was uncomfortable and concerning, to say the least. We also noticed the restaurant felt unusually warm inside, which raised some concerns for us given the type of food being served. Even a floor manager came to check on us. We ordered 2 sashimis, collar, spicy tuna roll, a signature roll. Here's where I lost it a bit. Sashimi was huge. Big cuts of fish. It was a lot. They used to have such a great happy hour here before covid we used to come all the time but they got rid of it and the place just doesn't seem to be as busy now. 3/5 because Food was ok but service was slow. We got the miso soup, tuna tataki, Japanese Hokkaido roll, shishito pepper roll and the black widow roll. Best food was the soup. I enjoyed that. Next best was Hokkaido. It was tasty and tender. The rest of the rolls were kinda bland, with the best being the shishito pepper roll because of its uniqueness. Service was slow. The staff was very occupied trying to sit a larger group so sat around without water for a good minute. Parking was easy. Was easy to walk in and get a table on a Friday night. Sitting at the sushi bar doesn't let you really watch the sushi chefs at work because the height of the counters. The floor was wet and slippery beneath me where I was seated at the bar...kinda dangerous. The good: Shumaker had the delicious sauce, the mountain of ginger they give to each person, the presentation of the seaweed salad to look like a sundae. I didn't love that the black widow roll had fried soft shell crab. It tasted good, but it didn't taste much like fish because of the unexpected tempera. I would try something else next time. Really top quality and fresh sushi. I highly recommend their Ensui Roll. It's a slightly spicy, but perfectly balanced, savory roll. The sauce that comes with it is rich and flavorful. Ensui Sushi is one of the finer establishments and I've had the luxury to dine at this top notched restaurant with a good friend earlier today after having heard so many great stories about it from my circle of Yelp Elite friends. The Yelp Elite squad did not disappoint! Top of my must-have list was the Spicy Magic Mike. Not gonna lie, it was drawn to it by the name and the appearance of the roll. It's a rice-free roll that consisted of spicy crab, shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, and cucumber wrapped in soy paper and topped with avocado, chopped tuna, lemon slices, minced cilantro & jalapeño, habanero flakes, and spicy ponzu sauce. This dish was beautifully executed! The attention to detail and flavor profile were impeccable! This sexy roll is guaranteed to satisfy your tastebuds and leave you in awe! Definitely definitely order this roll! OMG, it was a teaser and a pleaser! This was our favorite item. Second favorite were the Salmon Belly Sashimi. We were rather pleased by the thick and long cut--each piece was a very generous portion curled up, so when we unraveled it, we pleasantly discovered the generous serving! It was so smooth and creamy, it melted in our mouths! Soooooooooooo fresh! Our third favorite was the Yellowtail Collar. This was my first time having Yellowtail Collar and I absolutely loved it! It was perfectly grilled and the flesh was so tender and juicy. Based on its appearance, I thought it might be dry, but it was anything but dry! The meat was sweet and very moist. Truly delicious and a must try for those of you who have never tried this before! We also ordered one of the daily specials, the Premium Sushi Sampler, that originally consisted one each of the Toro, Bluefin, Uni, Halibut, and King Salmon. They actually ran out of Uni, so we got 2 pieces of Toro, which worked out better, because we would rather have Toro instead of Uni. Of the selections provided, the Toro was our favorite! All of the sushi were incredibly fresh! We got a few appetizers too, the Crispy Rice and the Calamari. The Crispy Rice was deep fried sushi rice topped with spicy tuna, sliced serrano peppers, and eel sauce. It was flavorful, but the big piece was a bit hard to eat. If you like a nice crunch, then order this appetizer. The Calamari was also really good. We were very surprised that the outer shell remained crunchy throughout our meal and not a single piece got soft or soggy. They take their crunch seriously! I have to also point out that my roasted green tea was freshly brewed. At most restaurants when you order iced green tea, they bring out a glass of the tea. Here, they bring out a fresh pot of hot roasted green tea (with the fresh tea leaves and roasted rice), and a separate glass of ice. Once the tea is brewed to your satisfaction, it is then added to the ice. The flavor is fresh and strong. Wow, now that was refreshing! We had such a lovely dining experience and will definitely be coming back soon! Additionally, I organize a ladies group on MeetUp, so Ensui Sushi will for sure be on my list of restaurants to introduce to my group! I was beyond impressed with the food and the service! Went back another couple of times, and the problem for me is the inconsistency. The only thing that is consistency really good is the Toro. However, when it comes to the rolls one week a roll can be outstanding, another week it can be good, and on another week it can be meh. If they could get their rolls to have a more consistent flavor I'd put it back up to 4 stars, and I'd become a regular customer as I live so close by. But for now, it is just going to be a place I come to on rare occasion, and will instead opt for a further drive north or south. read more

The environment in this place is very welcoming and super cute for a date night. It is also kid friendly so it fits all environment. I was impressed from the get go with the timeliness of service and the speed we received our food. The miso was full of goodies and was very tasty.
