Personally, I LOVED the freshness and flavor present in everything my group ordered for take-out: teriyaki chicken, avocado-eel rolls, protein rolls, salmon sashimi, miso soup, and Philly rolls. I waited an extra 15min past the estimated pick-up time for the order and the restaurant wasn't that busy at the time for the wait to make sense, but beauty takes time I suppose. I came here because of the great reviews and its a place that always seems busy and popular. When I walked in I saw couples, families with kids, etc. I got really excited because it was a weeknight and I thought if a place like this is packed on a weeknight it has to be good. It's a big open restaurant but it has a nice clean vibe and it was perfect space for a date night out. But I'm so sad to note that I wasn't very impressed by the sushi. The fish felt really dry and not very flavorful at all. I got a salmon roll and a spicy tuna and both were underwhelming. The garlic edamame was also too sweet for the taste not the flavor to be expected which bummed me out. Maybe it was just an off night for the restaurant? I've been coming here for years. In 2018 the quality was impeccable. High quality salmon & fish. Fast forward, since 2020/2021 every time we've come the quality has been extremely inconsistent and never better than just okay. Unfortunately this is only sushi spot in walking distance from me, so if I want something sushi a lot of days, this is my option. I keep trying because I want it to be good SO BAD. Alas, the salmon is smelly, chewy... the sushi is just bad. There's no excusing it. Apparently I'm a gluten for punishment because I decided to give it one more try. The service was good. I sat at the bar and Josh had helped me. He was very friendly and very quick and efficient at taking my order. The servers were also good at checking in on me to make sure I was good. Ambience was good. Nice and spacious place that was kept clean. It's a bit dark inside, but not a big deal. I liked how it wasn't very loud and I could spend time reading my book. I had the crispy rice appetizer, which I was surprised was cold. The rice was clearly not fried freshly. I ordered two rolls: happy wife and the Tasmanian. Both excellently made and with good portion size! Some friends invited me to dine here and they were mortified by how terrible the service was. It took only a few minutes to be sat but 10 for our server to greet us. It was an excellent marker for how our evening was going to be. It took a total of 2 hours and 17 minutes to dine here. While waiting we were watching other tables receiving attentive service from other servers, and we were even able to watch our server (Jose) chat with friends at a table next to us for quite a while. Throughout our people watching, we noticed there were two other tables who also complained to the manager. When he made his round to our table, he offered a free dessert and corrected nothing. We had orders that were forgotten, should be rang in as well as the orders that came incorrectly. Well, I'm sure the manager was overwhelmed. There was nothing happening to correct the situation for anyone, and it ended up being a very long dragged out experience of dissatisfaction. My friends tell me that they've never had such an awful experience. However, I spent enough time there to register more than one. I 100% do not recommend this place while management struggles to maintain a level of service at this establishment. read more

My husband and I ate at this restaurant around 4 PM yesterday. We had an absolutely wonderful waiter named Zach. He is an exceptional waiter. Just did a takeout of what is the worst specialty roll I have ever had. It was a Caterpillar roll. The picture in their menu shows a round roll with about equal amount of rice and fish on the inside and slices of avocado on the top. What I got was something that was shaped like a triangle, not a roll. It looked like a of base of rice, with a minuscule portion of fish in the middle and then a small triangle of avocado on the top. Unappetizing to look at, fell apart when I picked up a slice, and tasted of rice and not much else. Just a total ripoff. read more

This time it seemed perhaps a sub chef prepared the roll? I don't know but it wasn't the usual wonderful roll. Hope next time it doesn't disappoint. While I want having lunch here today, my wife and I reminisced that we have been loving the food at sushi lounge for 10+ years. We used to drive all the way to Poway as it was the only location, but they have since grown and we now have one in Encinitas that is much closer to us. We have enjoyed so many lunches and dinners here, and everything from sushi to yakisoba. During the restaurant shut downs, we also supported them with getting takeouts. Great food and great service. I was unaware that they had a happy hour, but was pleasantly surprised when I arrived during it. They have a bunch of different options from appetizers to rolls to beers. The Nori Fries are perfectly crispy and have a crunchy batter to them. Topped with furikake (dried seaweed + sesame seeds) 9/10 The Calamari is my favorite. Cooked perfectly, and not to overpowering. 10/10 The Sashimi Appetizer came with decent sized pieces and great quality fish. 10/10 The Crispy Rice is a perfect mixture of crunchy texture and spice (albacore). 8/10 For the rolls I'd recommend: Chronic Roll, Haji Roll, Tasmanian Devil Roll Honorable Mention: The Spicy Tuna!! They have the freshest spicy tuna I've ever tasted. 15/10 Portions here are huge and fish quality is great! 11/10 I love that their quality stays the consistent throughout their locations. Met a co worker here for lunch yesterday. The restaurant is super big considering how it looks from the outside. Lots is seating options as well as a nice long sushi bar wirh seating. There is an additional smaller bar right at the entrance if you want to just post up for a drink. The service was good and the lunch special roll options are a great price. I really enjoyed the sushi roll flavors. I would give this place five stars if the tempura in one of my rolls would have been a little warmer. The roll tasted great otherwise. It made me wonder if it was used from a previous day since it should have been hot or warm since I arrived just after their opening for that day. This was one of the most disappointing sushi experiences we've had in awhile. We used to go to Poway Sushi Lounge about 8 years ago and it was incredible, but stopped going around 2019 because we noticed a decline in quality and service. We had hoped that Encinitas would be different as we live in the area and have been trying to find a good sushi place for some time but we were severely disappointed tonight. First, when we entered the restaurant the floor in the dining area was filthy. Covered in food, wrapper bits, and crayons that kids had thrown/dropped. The table the majority of the mess was under was empty and remained empty the entire time we were there. No one bothered to clean the mess. It was only about 5:45pm when we arrived, so before the true dinner rush. Second, the service was mediocre at best. We saw our server 3 times total, once to take our drink order, once to order rolls, and the third time to get our check. I had to flag down another server to get a refill on my drink (he was very kind and by far the best server at the time we went but I don't know his name) while our server stood at the sushi bar on his phone. Lastly, our sushi was both overpriced, and warm. My salmon hand roll was room temperature and I only took two bites before I decided not to eat the rest because I could tell it already wasn't sitting right in my stomach. We spent 71$ pre tip for 2 rolls, 2 hand rolls, and 4 Ikura. The ikura were by far the most expensive, which is to be expected, but they were also the only thing that came out cold and not room temperature like it had been sitting out for a long time. We got our food about 10 minutes after we ordered, which isn't a long time. So I don't know if a fridge of theirs isn't working correctly, or what was up with that. I've never received warm sushi from a restaurant before unless it was a cooked roll. I think it's fair to say we will not be returning to Sushi Lounge Encinitas, or any of their other locations. read more
