I have been looking for a decent crab fried rice closer to home ever since Thai Princess in Huntington Beach closed, and I found finally found it here! This version also has fresh veggies (frozen large peas and cubed carrots ruin the flavor of the whole dish and so many restaurants in SD county use them!) egg and lots of crab. I am over-the-moon happy!!! Besides that, I also ordered the chicken satay, chicken fried rice and basil flat noodles with chicken. Everything was fresh and of high quality. The satay was a little dry, but I actually prefer chicken that way. All the dishes had plenty of meat! The owner was super friendly and offered me water while I waited for my to-go order. He told me they've been there 25 years, which is impressive as they are tucked away in the far corner of a plaza. Overall, this place exceeded my expectations and I am excited to try more of the menu and hopefully dine-in soon. Thai Pan Cuisine is conveniently located by businesses that get a lot of traffic. We decided on a whim to try. The Thai Hand Rolls was a disappointment. Lacking flavor and ingredients. We were expecting vermicelli noodles typically included, we found bland dry chewy glass noodle completely different than expected. Thai Pan Cuisine waitress also did not ask us the spice level we wanted in our Basil Noodle dish. The seafood combination was good. We found the food was tasty and cooked well but sweeter than normal. This mom and pop shop had a nice ambiance, it was clean, nothing fancy and very homey. I have been to this restaurant before when visiting friends and family in San Diego, and it was great. They had figured out the best dishes and ordered them with the correct spice level and we loved it. Yesterday we decided to have a family dinner here again. It was quite disappointing. We ordered four dishes at about $20 each plus brown rice. The mango curry was excellent. The basil pork had absolutely zero basil. So weird. The spicy salmon was the mildest dish we had but it did have lots of veggies and a good chunk of salmon. The yellow curry was pretty much just sauce. They're always busy there, so the service isn't always fantastic, but they are friendly and try to be helpful. When we asked if we got some of the right dishes, the man just kind of laughed at the fact that there was no basil in the basil dish. Maybe they had an off night. Anyway, I'm going to give them four stars because in the past, they have been fantastic and I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt. They have huge servings and I like it that they don't oversalt their food. Consequently, I could opt to have as much or as little fish sauce as I wanted. Service was a little slow but it is a warm and inviting place. Their 0-10 scale for Thai food is accurate, so don't test them. They run more on the slow burn spicy hot side. This is a solid place. Only reason why I didn't give this place a higher rating is that I have been to Thailand at a simple restaurant where the spice was really alive and not just hot. Had the crispy sole (fish), yummy and comforting like deep fried chicken. Unfortunately, the apple slaw it was served with was an old apple--where it was granular and past overripe. The onion and cashews with it were excellent. Husband loved his dish; don't know if it was drunken noodle or Pad See Ewe. Friend loved her chicken pad Thai. The Thai tea was good also. read more

I've been eating from here for the past 10 years, and its always been a nice experience both eating in and takeout. I always order the glass noodles with beef, and sometimes I'm asked on my preference on the spice level, but I don't mind since I add my own from the chili sauce and chili flakes they provide. The employees are always polite and inquire about anything else I would need. Today, I ordered the usual glass noodles with beef. They were delicious, and have always been consistent in flavor and a favorite of mine. I tried the mango sticky rice for the first time, and it was so so good!! I am glad I tried it at this place, it was very much worth it. This place is a gem, and I understand why their prices are high, as almost every restaurant is dealing with that, but I don't mind since the portions are more than enough, the service is always great and the food is always amazing. read more

Our server was nice and checked in with us as needed. The restaurant itself was on the smaller side, which I prefer. Definitely an underrated local gem. I got the taro boba tea and the Thai chow men with Thai sausage (definitely recommend), and overall everything tasted great. The only downside was the boba was overcooked and pretty mushy. Our dinner was delicious. Two items carry out. The place is a tiny storefront so make sure you know where it is on the map before you go there. Near Encinitas Boulevard and El Camino. We had the eggplant dinner with shrimp and the panang curry with chicken. And we had their delicious tender dark brown rice. The flavors were fresh and imaginative and explosive. We ordered a mild curry so be aware it does have a little kick to it that enhances it very much. Decent portions at a fair price. Best Thai meal in a long time. Our server was very nice and and checked up on us at good times. The restaurant itself was was quite simple and small but that's what gave it its charm. For drinks, I ordered the Okinawa milk tea with boba. The tea was delicious, but the boba pearls were overcooked and mushy. For food, I ordered the praram special with chicken which was basically just chicken, steamed vegetables and rice which sounds basic but it was the peanut sauce that it came with that really took it to the next level. The sauce was sweet, savory, and overall very delicious. I wish they would sell it in jars to buy. On that sauce alone, I would give five stars. Overall, I am very impressed with the restaurant. The only suggestion is to not over cook the boba, but other than that I will totally comeback. read more

Decent but average experience. Came here for take out lunch one day. Called in and ordered the curry on the lunch specials menu. The order came out pretty quickly it was ready within 10 minutes for pick up. Brought it home and was rather disappointed with the food. The Tom Yum soup that came with it basically was all liquid watery, with zero ingredients. Just flavored water basically. The curry was also extremely watery and didn't have a lot of substance. This place went downhill 4-5 years ago. We tried it again earlier this year and again last week and it is much improved. They've introduced a couple dishes with mango that were delicious. Pad Thai and the curries are good as well as the Tom kha gai and the Tom yum gai. We've only ever gotten food to go so I can't speak about the service and ambience. read more

I get all my Thai food here. It is excellent most of the time I get pad Thai. They make it to order and it is steaming, hot and flavorful.

My wife and I have been here a handful of times now and it's the only local place we'll get Thai food! Everything we've tried is delicious, from drinks to apps to entrees. The service has been excellent each time, staff is so friendly. Favorites have been pad thai (sorry basic I know), pad see you, tom kha soup, and the Thai dumplings. Best Thai in the area. Pad See Ew was a generous portion with a ton of chicken, delicious sauce and the lunch special with the Tom Kah soup and hand roll is such a great deal. I love the Thai chicken curry from here! Every time I come here everybody is so friendly and the food comes out fast even for pick up!

Although it's been through a couple sets of owners, the vibe at Thai Pan has always been positive and energetic. Serving a variety of standard dishes, their menu offers familiar Thai fare at a pretty reasonable price. There are a couple of "Americanized" items (e.g., Chinese sweet and sour, Orange chicken and chow main), but most of the rest are pretty authentic. That said, compared to the sorts of restaurants you might find in more urban parts of San Diego, TPC is pretty run of the mill; and if it were located in Linda Vista or Kearny Mesa, it'd struggle. But this is a suburban neighborhood restaurant and some allowances should be made. It certainly outshines the two other Thai spots along the El Camino Real of Encinitas. A bit dull, but in general it is dependable. read more
