    8. Thai Hand Rolls
    Nell C.

Thai Pan Cuisine is conveniently located by businesses that get a lot of traffic. We decided on a whim to try. The Thai Hand Rolls was a disappointment. Lacking flavor and ingredients. We were expecting vermicelli noodles typically included, we found bland dry chewy glass noodle completely different than expected. Thai Pan Cuisine waitress also did not ask us the spice level we wanted in our Basil Noodle dish. The seafood combination was good. We found the food was tasty and cooked well but sweeter than normal. This mom and pop shop had a nice ambiance, it was clean, nothing fancy and very homey. Price level is high compensating for the rising costs in ingredients. The portion sizes are good enough for two ppl.

I have been to this restaurant before when visiting friends and family in San Diego, and it was great. They had figured out the best dishes and ordered them with the correct spice level and we loved it. Yesterday we decided to have a family dinner here again. It was quite disappointing. We ordered four dishes at about $20 each plus brown rice. The mango curry was excellent. The basil pork had absolutely zero basil. So weird. The spicy salmon was the mildest dish we had but it did have lots of veggies and a good chunk of salmon. The yellow curry was pretty much just sauce. They're always busy there, so the service isn't always fantastic, but they are friendly and try to be helpful. When we asked if we got some of the right dishes, the man just kind of laughed at the fact that there was no basil in the basil dish. Maybe they had an off night. Anyway, I'm going to give them four stars because in the past, they have been fantastic and I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure I'll be back again because my family loves this restaurant, but I would not necessarily choose it myself.

Horrible tasteless pad Thai. If you read that it's good, it's a complete lie or a review from someone who has no clue how pad Thai should taste.

Drunken Basil Noodles with shrimp and Spicy Fried Rice with bbq pork

Have been here in years and decided to give it a try and was pleasantly surprised. Ordered 2 dishes to go, drunken noodle with shrimp and spicy fried rice with bbq pork. Both were fresh and gracious portion size. Will be going back again.

Good thai food with fast service. The Pad Thai was a bit oily compared to what we normally have, but still tasty and enough for two people. The restaurant seemed clean and the service was good.

    9. Golden Bag - intriguing, filling was peas, carrots mainly.

They have huge servings and I like it that they don't oversalt their food. Consequently, I could opt to have as much or as little fish sauce as I wanted. Service was a little slow but it is a warm and inviting place. Their 0-10 scale for Thai food is accurate, so don't test them. They run more on the slow burn spicy hot side. This is a solid place. Only reason why I didn't give this place a higher rating is that I have been to Thailand at a simple restaurant where the spice was really alive and not just hot. Had the crispy sole (fish), yummy and comforting like deep fried chicken. Unfortunately, the apple slaw it was served with was an old apple--where it was granular and past overripe. The onion and cashews with it were excellent. Husband loved his dish; don't know if it was drunken noodle or Pad See Ewe. Friend loved her chicken pad Thai. The Thai tea was good also.

Our server was nice and checked in with us as needed. The restaurant itself was on the smaller side, which I prefer. Definitely an underrated local gem. I got the taro boba tea and the Thai chow men with Thai sausage (definitely recommend), and overall everything tasted great. The only downside was the boba was overcooked and pretty mushy. The tea itself was lovely, but the boba's texture just threw me off. I hadn't been before, so it could have been a fluke. Regardless, I'll definitely be back.

Usually everything is good but I had a hair in my food this time unfortunately. They have gluten free options which is nice

    Panang Curry

Order a panang curry, 5 for the spice. Tasted so good. Tasted genuine and it was a lunch special as well and all I can say is just give this place a try during lunch time. If the service disappoints you, I'll buy you lunch. I'm that confident. Ambiance is chill as it was Sunday and was a nice brisk day. JUST GIVE THIS PLACE A TRY, it's fire. These photos are while im eating cuz I forgot to take pics but yea

This very small restaurant really had me question whether it was going to be any good when I walked in. I was amazingly surprised at how delicious everything that I had was. The service was good. The food was actually excellent.

Lunch special pad Thai with egg roll and sauce
    Susan R.

located in a large strip mall.. lots of parking..very busy during lunch hours..quick service..food was ready in about 10 minutes...very hot and had 4 good sized shrimp with green onions..crushed peanut and sweet sauce for the egg roll.Egg roll was not the best. Definitely needs more inside of it and was a little greasy..no complaints about the pad Thai or service!

Horrible horrible pad Thai. Tasteless and not what pad Thai should taste like. Noodles were bland, cold and stuck together with no flavor.

As noted by its name, this place served a fusion of Chinese and Korean cuisines. Their Encinitas location took over what used to be a roadside diner along N Coast Hwy 101. The seating capacity was less than 40 people which included a few high-top counter spots. At my last visit, I came for a late dinner before their closing time. A large menu was posted on the wall behind the service counter that listed about two dozen food offerings. The items seemed to be comfort food like pot stickers, spring rolls, fried rice, and chicken wings but flavored with unique combinations of seasonings and spices. I started my meal with the Marinated Beef Tri-Tip Skewers which came as a set of three and a Chinese mustard for dipping. The meat was very tender and well-seasoned. I also ordered the Cumin Lamb Stir Fry which the cashier said was medium spicy. After tasting a couple of bites of the noodles from the serving bowl, I agreed that the heat level was moderate, even for my palate. I thought the portion size should have been more for the price. That was my main criticism for both items, otherwise the food was solid for an Asian fusion eatery.

Food: I ordered the Panang curry with boiled tofu, and it was so flavorful, warm, and comforting. It was a bit too spicy for me (I should have asked for an adjustment), but I definitely recommend. My friend and I shared the spring rolls (the peanut sauce was warm and very flavorful) and the mango sticky rice (one of the best I have - sweet and salty, creamy). Service/Ambiance: My friend and I went when it was a little less busy and it was raining outside, so we were able to sit inside! Service was great - very kind, attentive staff. My wife and I have been searching North County for years for same, to no avail - so we readily accepted. We arrived a few minutes before 1pm - and our first thought was - what a strange location. About a block off of Carlsbad Village Drive, but nothing else really around to drive foot traffic. Our second thought was - ok, where's the entrance? We did a complete loop before finding it, and headed upstairs to the restaurant. And our third thought was - where IS everyone? Total ghost town - and to be honest, at that point, I was pretty sure that this was yet another poor attempt at an authentic Thai restaurant. And - I was wrong. Our friends arrived shortly, and we sat down and perused the menu - even though we all kinda knew what we wanted, we wanted to see what else was out there - and good thing we did, as my wife changed her mind and went with Pumpkin Curry. I, being a total creature of habit, went with Yellow Chicken Curry with no onion - and an appetizer of Chicken Satay. Our friends ordered also, starting with Drunken noodles, another Yellow Curry (with tofu), and Rad Na (pork version). Let me interrupt this with a quick aside - the waitress was absolutely wonderful during the order process. For each entree, she specifically asked the spice level (1-10), and delivered somewhat accordingly. The food started arriving shortly thereafter - and there was a LOT of food arriving! The only nit I had was that, in my demented brain, appetizers show up before the main course. In this case, everything arrived together. That said, the main courses were incredible (and again, HUGE). While I would submit that while I asked for a spice level of 10, I got more of a 4 or 5, but when Thais see blonde hair blued eyed white guys, they tend to assume (usually correctly) that they have no idea what they're asking for. In my case, they were wrong. No biggie, I'm used to it, and next time, will definitely up the ante on the spice issue. My wife LOVED her Pumpkin Curry, and our friends enjoyed their meals as well. They pretty much finished off the Drunken Noodles, so clearly that was a hit. The only other nit that I ran into was the Chicken Satay. These things were HUGE - so much so that I could cut them in half along the length, and make a huge chicken sandwich. I've never seen it done this way - but my wife and I split one and took the rest home - that's how huge they were. The peanut sauce was amazing, as was the Thai Cucumber Salad (actually one of the better ones I've had - in California OR Thailand - it was that good). Bottom line, a worthy discovery, AND they use Door Dash - so we'll be eating Aroi Thai - Carlsbad quite a bit going forward - actually real Thai in North County....outstanding!!!

This place was located right off the freeway and connected to another Mexican restaurant but they were the only building that was connected with their own lot and kind of rundown like old and dirty which reminded me of Old Town so I'm not sure if that look/feel was intentional since they are the only building there. Inside was still old and rundown but did have a modern feel with the bar seatings and lemon decor. I went in during lunch hours 12pm. There was only 1 host who was also the waiter and server who took care of 3-4 tables at the same time including mine. She did a good job at juggling all tables and came by often enough. Now with the food wait times it seemed like there was only 1 person in the kitchen as well since it took quite awhile for all the foods to come out. It took about 30 minutes after ordering since all 3 tables ordered at the same time. *Beef Boat Noodles - these were just okay. You have the option of choosing veggies/tofu, chicken, or beef. The beef didn't come with all the things I'm used to in boat noodles such as tripe, tendon, different cuts of braised beef, water spinach, or Chinese broccoli. It didn't even seem like blood was added either. It only came with 2 meatballs and beef slices that weren't tender and could have been cut smaller too. They need to add more different cuts of meats and other things to it. It tasted like Pho Lao. *Crying Tiger Salad - was okay as well. The flavoring was there but it wasn't tossed correctly since the toasted rice powder stayed on top of the meat. Also the meat was too overcooked so it was chewy and it also could've been cut smaller. They were thick big chewy pieces. *Thum Lao Style - not bad! I was expecting it to still be more on the bland Thai style but it was actually pretty good and sour the way I like it. It was still light in color meaning they didn't add crab paste for the dark coloring or shrimp paste. They did add pickled crabs though and it was pretty good and spicy. I also like how they "fauk"/chopped the papaya too instead of shredding so good job on that! *Khao Pad Naem - this was my mom's so I didn't try it. She said it was a bit salty but I'm assuming because of the protein she got which was the sour fermented pork which is the naem. It looked good though with the way they fried the egg.
